    Curried Chicken Small
    Jazmine S.

Had a much better experience than I did previously as far as being able to order from this restaurant with plenty options available and not yet sold out. This time, I tried the curry chicken and a side of plantains. Was not a fan of the plantains at all, as they were too hard. But the actual plate itself was very flavorful and plentiful. I ordered a small and still had left overs for later. Service was pretty slow but the lady at the front counter was polite. I look forward to trying Ochos Rios again soon.

Delicious food with an authentic taste of Jamaica We had jerk chicken with steamed rice and wet mac & cheese, brown stew chicken rice & peas, and steamed cabbage. It's just getting off with month one under their belt so if you are looking for a taste of the Island come and eat! We will be back

My first visit to this restaurant. This recently opened restaurant boasts a modest Jamaican menu. To say the least, I was thoroughly blown away with my meal. I had the small Curry Chicken with rice and peas and cabbage. The small serving was adequately priced at $12.99; a large portion would set you back $15.59. One word: DELICIOUS! A novel way to order; scan the QR code on the table, order, pay and your food is brought to your table. No fancy digs, this is truly a mom and pop setup that includes a DJ and karaoke on weekends. Includes dine-in and take-out. I'm looking forward to returning to have the jerk chicken and hopefully bump up the rating to 5 stars. UPDATE: Returned for lunch and had the jerk chicken and the chicken in brown gravy. We and to patronize this restaurant so it stays around. 04/14/2023

Went to Texas City Dike for the morning and boyfriend wanted TexMex on the way home. I found this little gem on Yelp and said "do you trust me?". He had the curry chicken and I had the brown stew chicken. Both were very, very yummy. Folks were very friendly. Everyone we saw was grabbing food to go, so hope they stay busy and keep serving this authentic, flavorful fare.

The fish was not seasoned good and the French frys was not seasoned as advertised. This is all I have to say on that.

Really good food & hospitable workers. They let us sample a few things before we ordered. Food is cooked fresh and came out really hot and yummy.

The dining area is pretty spacious and on New Year's eve there were just a few other guests also dining there. A few others came in grabbed to go orders and left. The women's bathroom was spotless. I forgot to get our servers name but she was great and it didn't take too long for us to get our food besides the patties being made fresh to order. The beef, chicken and spinach patties were all fresh, flaky, crispy, and well seasoned with the perfect amount of spice. I had brown stew chicken with rice/peas, cabbage/carrots and plantains and my niece had jerk chicken with white rice, plantains and greens. All the food was good except I felt they skimped on my chicken portion a little and my chicken could've used a little more spice. It was cooked perfectly though, very tender and even though the portion was smaller than I'm used to it was just the right amount for me to eat during lunch, just not enough to take home for later like I'm used to doing at other Caribbean spots. We ended up getting patties, plantains and jerk chicken to go. Also, the patties were fresh and piping hot but the rest of our food was warm, almost room temperature.

As a Vietnamese whose family made oxtail pho every other week, I can confirm these oxtail portions are huge, meaty, and generous. Jerk seasoning consists of soy sauce, thyme, allspice and scallions. I was able to taste all of these components beautifully blended and grilled. The chicken was my favorite cut, bone-in chicken breast and a chicken leg. The plantains were included and were soft, sweet, and paired perfectly with the rest of the meal. The box came with a sauce, (maybe BBQ sauce)? Didn't wanna drive all across town for good Jamaican food so I came here this week. Let's just say costly for the quantity they give, and very little to nothing. I've been places where 25.00 dollars for peas and rice, oxtails, plantains and cabbage, will be plentiful, and can't finish on a good day, with no shortening. I feel there isn't any competition in this area, so you get a sense of they are the best, when they aren't. Well if you know know, then you know. Wanted the oxtail plate, but was told approximately only four oxtails come with it. SMH, FOR THE PRICE. Yes, you can choose two sides per plate, although additional plantains are 6 dollars more for an order of maybe 6. That's a dollar each almost, and just wanted a double order with my meal. Sides are Carribean/American mixed. No this isn't a Jamaican restaurant with all your taste buds flavors, and your quantity per meal/price. So I asked about the Jerk Chicken plate, which I like my oxtail gravy on my chicken and rice because I can't have alot of spice, meaning the jerk sauce. The cook told me, they don't normally do that...but she will honor it that night. Once again, customer has a preference in gravy versus sauce. She went added it on the side. But encourage me to try the jerk sauce on the side. Maybe cause I'm well traveled that oxtail gravy on the side taste like the broth from oxtail, but more like regular beef broth, no gravy. And the jerk sauce on the side also was bland, and plain. The jerk chicken by the way taste like it had Mrs. Dash orginal seasoning written all on it, and the portions were small, not what I'm use to elsewhere for those orders. And I could only imagine the oxtail plate...Smh, glad i didn't choose that. The wet mac n cheese and plantains were the only good thing. I guess every Carribean Island country is different, and how they do there plates. St. Croix by the way. But no justification to the seasoning and sauces. The cashier said they been open about two years, and yes I seen alot of people with either food delivery or takeout like myself that night, but not dining in. They do have a 4.5 stars on Google review, can't explain it why. Well, for the price and what you are getting isn't worth it here from my thoughts. And not to mention the drinks/juices are like 5.00 dollars or more. I'll leave this place at a 1 star, for the mac n cheese and plantains only.

We weren't seated in the greater eating area where it was cooler and maybe where the gnats were less of a bother. The food was delicious and homemade, you can tell it was made with high quality ingredients and that Southern skill that you can only get from helping Grandma in the kitchen. BUT the roaches made us lose our appetite. Such a shame. It seemed like the building went down. They don't seem to put as much effort into the condition of that place as they do the food. Dusty ceiling fans and crummy floors. I appreciate the homey vibe but it looked really junky, more stuff piled in unoccupied corners as before.
