Leo's Cajun Corner is one of my favorite spots for food in Galveston. On my most recent visit I had the Catfish Po Boy and Jambalaya. The Po Boy was simple but perfect. Soft bread was filled with a tender flakey catfish fillet covered in a crisp spiced crust. The Jambalaya rice was soft and savory and mixed with smokey lightly spicy meat. This place has been a Galveston staple for Years. They offer to season and smoke your own meats during the holidays and all year for that matter. For the holidays we took in a Rib roast, a pork loin, a ham, chicken drumsticks, and a pork shoulder for Christmas Eve. I can't tell you how much easier it made my life to have all of those things ready for pick up on Christmas Eve. Everything was delicious! I had so much left over I shared it and put it in my freezer. We had it again for New Year's Day. When you stop by don't forget the boudin balls to take with you if you are not eating in! This place opened in 1991, the current building in 2009, Leo's has firmly established itself as a bonafide classic food joint. It may be on Broadway, but it has the feel of a quiet neighborhood corner joint. The customers all seemed like regulars. No tourists here! Service was kind and quick. Order at the counter. The food was a mistake a mix of prepared foods under heat lamps or in a steamer, or freshly fried dishes. I opted for the fried shrimp plate - 10 shrimp for $16.99. I expected them to be under a heat lamp but they were fried fresh and it didn't take long for them to bring me my plate - fresh and hot. The shrimp was nice and crispy and deceptively spicy! How I've missed this place I have no idea. They also process meats here and have a display case to the right of the counter containing boudin, sausages, jerky, and various other items. I absolutely love this place, however, I was soooooo disappointed when I got home and found my $11 bowl of gumbo was a bowl full of rice!!! :( most places will give you your rice on the side but no, the cup was full of rice so there was barely any gumbo inside. The moment you walk in the door you smell the wonderful Cajun flavors. Leo deserves 5 stars for the over-the-top friendly service and his wonderful offering of Cajun comfort food. We stopped by for an early lunch and learned Leo serves lunch anytime of day. The place is not fancy but has a down home feel. Leo made us feel at home and welcome. They were not crowded. The menu is posted on large signs over the counter. There is a meat counter near the counter with Cajun sausage and a warmer with boudins. Leo proudly told us about the sausage filled fried boudins. We ordered a crawfish po' boy ($6.25) and a oyster plate with jambalaya and cole slaw $10) Everything was incredible. The crawfish were a little spicy with a nice breading and very filling. The sandwich is huge. The oysters were flavorful with a gentle breading that was also good. The jambalaya were delicious with large chunks of sausage. We sampled the gumbo which was out of this world. Leo does not make his gumbo with a thick roux but uses more of a soup base. The gumbo was packed with shedded pork and sausage. There was a great spicy flavor. Our server was friendly and the food came out quickly. Prices are great! On Sundays, all plates are $8.95 all day. There was a kid's menu with options from fish to pb&j. This is a must visit place in Galveston and should on on top ten for Texas. We're going back soon. My advise..... go early. read more

Good custom service but the food is nasty. I ordered gumbo with a boudin link. Gumbo had a burnt roux taste and did not come with shrimp. Boudin was cold with not flavor. My spouse order fried catfish with dirty rice. Catfish was ok but the dirty rice was cold and taste the same as the boudin. Nasty that went in the trash. Saw all of the great reviews and decided to get some food to go. Came in around 5 PM on a Saturday and decided to order one of the $11 plates. I got a mixed plate of rib tips and crawfish boudain. Huge portions and even bigger flavor. This was my first time having crawfish boudain, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The rib tips were decent, but I wasn't a huge fan. I should've gotten spare ribs instead. The plate came with two sides. I chose jambalaya and potato salad, and both were great options. I don't like most people's potato salad, but this one was homemade, classic, Texas potato salad. You're not gonna get much in terms of ambiance or a dine-in experience, but the great food and the reasonable price warrant 5 stars. I'll be back very soon to try some different options. read more
