I've been to Ochoa twice, both times for a all over blonde root touch up and hair cut. Both times have left me less than satisfied. The first time I went in October, my roots were bunch brassier than the rest of my head. I only noticed this after going home! My hair had a lot of product in it, and when I took it out I noticed the extremely brassy roots. In between I went to a salon in Maine, and they did a good job keeping the cool tone blonde that I wanted. I recently went back to Ochoa because I had a gift card. My stylist saw my old brassy roots and did a bleach shampoo and toner to get it out. Since then, I've washed my hair (with purple shampoo) once, and I can still see the brassy parts from my first appointment at Ochoa. With my hair cut, it was just a matter of my stylist not listening to me. I did tell my stylist that I did want it even all around when I noticed she was making it longer in the front and shorter in the back, however she said it would shrink and I should be fine. I went home and tried to cut the long parts myself. I also had to touch up my bangs because she missed many places! Overall not horrible, but not worth the $140 dollars either! read more

So after I was so unhappy with my hair I went back to get it fixed by another hair dresser. I believe her name was Tamara, she was very nice and talkative. She agreed with me that the color was not natural looking, however she also said it was a well done balayage. Anyways, I explained again that I wanted a very natural light brown color. She suggested some low lights and a darker toner on top of it, which she went ahead with. The results were awesome...exactly what I wanted! Even though I ended up happy with my hair color, it didn't last long :-/ It has been now three weeks since my last visit and my hair is back to that very light color that I didn't want from the gecko. So now I'm forced to use a toner every couple weeks to darken it, unless I wanna spend a bunch of money on a hair dresser again. Ochoa is not listed on any of the wedding websites so I have nowhere else to place this review. I have given every other vendor a positive four or five-star review(via weddingwire and the knot) so I do not feel that I am an unnecessarily judgemental person. I chose to go to Ochoa for my hair/makeup because I have gone for highlights and blowouts multiple times and I typically have a good experience. When I began setting up appointments with the owner, although he was very friendly, I found it very challenging to actually get a hold of him. He seemed to be a ghost: both of the South Hadley and the East longmeadow location staff would tell me that he was at the other location for the day- simultaneously. A few months before my wedding, after a week where he had not responded to any of my emails, and I finally got a hold of him via phone, his response was "well, your wedding is so far away- that's why I didn't l get back to you" About 30 minutes late, my hair appointment finally begins. I will say this: the woman who styled my hair was at least a decent person and did not reduce me to tears. I was not thrilled with how my hair turned out- but it is my fault for not speaking up in the moment. Then came my make-up appointment. My make up artist proceeded to tell me that I was causing her to run late with all of her other appointments for the day. I told her that before we got started I wanted to get my mom's opinion on a lipstick color (my mom was right next door in the salon while I was in the spa), and my artist told me no, this wasn't going to be an option and that we needed to start. I have never felt more like I was inconveniencing someone in my life. At one point, I asked her to lighten my eye brows and she yelled at me and said "you are not the expert, I'm the expert." The two stars are for the fact that my bridesmaids were all satisfied with their hair and make up. The whole experience was a bad way to start my wedding morning. I did report my concerns to the owner who said he would follow up with the make up artist. Many wedding professionals warned us about this salon and told us to switch to another. This salon is WAYYY OVERRATED. went in for a simple trim, came out with crooked layers. And what i mean by crooked layers, looked like someone took a good chunk of my hair from the left back side of my head and just chopped it. Wore my hair in a ponytail for about 2 months, patiently waiting for my hair to somewhat regrow and have it cut(not trimmed, because we were way past the point of no return with the previous "trim") & let's just say my hair even in a pony tail looked like it was cut in two different lengths. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. If a salon cannot get a simple trim right, which is one of the simplest things they offer, then what does that say about them? I do not recommend this place, over priced & overrated. Plenty of other better salons in the area that won't make your hair look bad from a trim. read more

Don't get your haircut by Kayla. i asked for collarbone length hair, she gave me an uneven bob that was shorter on one side. She also gave me layers i did not ask for and my hair is super uneven as I'm still waiting for it to grow out. She also dyed my hair a while back and i wanted to go brown and she chose a different dark blonde color and there was basically no change in my hair color at all. The workers here are also very rough on your hair and i have fine textured hair they do not know how to handle it even though it should be simple because of my straight hair texture. I hired Ochoa to do hair and make up for my wedding we were doing a combination of hair and make up for 9 girls. They sent 3 stylists and had 3.5 hours to complete the project. My mom was unhappy with her make up and my hair looked great initially- it was falling out before the ceremony even started. The stylists were so off schedule that we missed 30-45 minutes of pictures which is PRECIOUS (and expensive!) time. read more

I made an appointment for a full balayage and cut. It was kind of a last minute appointment but I had heard great things about this salon and wasnt too nervous. What a horrible experience.  I'm really not one to complain about a haircut BUT this was downright awful!!!. First of all when I told the stylist what I wanted  for color done she immediately turned it down and said she wasn't going to do it. I wanted a balayage and thats what I was there for. I showed her a picture of the haircut I wanted. It was just a long layerd cut. ( something I didn't tell her is that due to health issues my hair had taken longer then usual to grow out) I didn't think it was nesssary since I showed her LONG layers and told her I wanted to keep  length. Next thing I know she has clippers and just chopped my hair off over my shoulders. The by the time she layered it my hair was even shorter. I have thick, frizzy hair so now I can't even wear it down because it just puffs out and when its straightened it looks absolutely horrible. Not only that I got no balayage (which is what I paid for, she said she was going to do a nice red color for now and I could come back for blonde so I was ok with that. Well my hair is very dark red, almost black.  It washes me out and i hate it. I'm stuck wearing my hair up until it grows. Also , I was left at the washing station for at LEAST 20 mins. Then when it was my turn the girl washing my hair had the water on so damn hit she burned my scalp.. I was saying wow that's hot and she didn't even change the temp. I really didn't want to leave a bad review but this whole thing has been bothering me. When I left I tried to be optimistic and not be a bitchy client,  but I gave it a month and still hate it. I had my haircut and color by Meagan a few weeks ago and it is so good that I had to write my first ever review on Yelp! I had been to Ochoa a few times before and was always incredibly pleased with my haircuts but this was the first time I went in for a color. My hair looked brassy, dry, and scraggly so I asked Meagan what she could do to fix the color to make it look more healthy. Her cure was to lowlight the bottom, faded layer of hair and highlight the top layer crown of my hair; something I had never heard of or even knew was a possible fix to my hair dilemma. After she listened to all my concerns, she went to work with a color and cut better than I could have ever imagined. Since then, I receive complements on my hair from many random customers at the restaurant I work at. One man even asked if I go to New York to get my haircut. The change was subtle but it has made my life easier by decreasing the time it takes me to wrestle with my hair when I get out of the shower. I swear even my clothes look better with my healthier and shiny hair! I've had mixed experiences with Ochoa Day Spa. I love that I work just steps from their door, that they can take appointments at a moment's notice, and that they charge reasonable prices for their services. But I swear that the estheticians here are instructed to make every service AS FAST AS POSSIBLE. Regardless of who I'm seeing, my experience has consistently been that they are rushing around to get you in and out as quickly as they can. While I appreciate efficiency, in the dozen or so times I've had my eyebrows waxed here I've left with wax on my face 100% of the time. What is that about? Ochoa is good in a pinch, but there is better service to be found in the Valley. read more

This is a cute and trendy looking salon in the Pioneer Valley. My wash, cut, and blow dry was $37, which I thought was reasonably priced. I was shocked that my stylist, Amy, did not first take me to the salon chair to do a consultation. Instead, we talked about what I wanted while we stood in front of the sink. I thought the haircut was pretty good. I didn't absolutely love it. Other people thought I looked nice. I might go back again if I ever find myself in Western Mass again, but maybe try a different hair stylist...? read more

Plain and simple: The great stylists at Ochoa know what works. I literally believed it impossible to cut my excessively thick hair in a flattering way until I met Shelly. What talent she has. During my college years at Mount Holyoke she provided me with countless excellent cuts and even introduced me to the world that is haircolor! Now that I've graduated to Alumna status I've only been back once for a cut and color, and boy do I regret it. Having my hair cut at a local Boston salon has only made me realize how talented the folks at Ochoa really are. Whatever you do, call first and ask questions so you know what you'll be charged. I had a terrible experience and the misrepresentation or at least very confusing facial pricing was part of it. I booked by facial and manicure online thinking that all the facial types (MediBac,, another kind for sensitive skin and Age Smart) were $75 each. Nope they start at $75 but nowhere does it say that. Hair removal and other services are marked "starting at" The facial was great. I wasn't even asked what kind of facial I wanted though nor told the purified then. They couldn't remove my gel manicure and kept soaking and re soaking my nails in acetone and sticking my hands in hot mitts that felt like they were burning my skin. Then they rubbed my nails with an orange stick which was ineffective and painful. The manicurist didn't trim my cuticles I guess because they were pressed for time with other appointments, nor did they even moisturize my hands at the end. After all this and even buying product at the end I should've asked for my manicure to be comped given the discomfort and the fact that the took almost two hours. I just wanted to leave and cry at the end. When I called asking for a discount to be credited to my card all they could do was offer another manicure. I explained I didn't live in the area but they didn't seem to want to make it right. read more

Terrible customer service. Scheduled an appointment online. Called that day to tell them i was on my way. They told me the person i was having my son go see was sick. No openings. Had to reschedule. They couldn't call me because they didn't have my number. But they had my email. Scheduled exact same time. Went in. They had told me it was scheduled a half hour earlier. The ladies and gents styling hair at the South Hadley location have never let me down, excelling in the fine art of balancing the wishes of the customer with their own creativity. The atmosphere is stylish but not overly edgy, though wild dye jobs are known to happen here, when requested. Ochoa specializes in a sleek, fun look--customers might leave with newly angular bangs, a snappy bob, or a few artfully tousled layers, but I've never witnessed anyone leaving dissatisfied. My own stylist, Kate (a curly hair expert) inspires such loyalty that I eschew the trumped-up Princeton salon scene altogether, instead waiting to get a haircuts whenever I find myself back on the old Pioneer Valley turf. read more

Terrible haircut. Terrible experience. First off, the young women working at the front desk were quite cold and unfriendly. This is not the bad part though. I went to see Meagan. First of all, throughout the entire haircut she would NOT stop talking about the biker gang that she belongs too. Classy. This is one of the only times I've ever actually wanted to just yell "shut up and just cut my hair." Throughout the entire haircut she didn't once stop and ask me about what lengths I want things, what I want done, how I want it done, etc. It was difficult to get a word in myself to attempt to tell her what I wanted with her non stop talk about meeting her biker gang at the pub. At the end of the haircut, she did not ask me if I liked the way it came out or if I wanted anything changed. Nope. Instead she literally whips the cape off of me and scurries away before I could say a thing. End result: I left with a haircut that looked exactly like Spock from Start Trek. read more
