The owners did an incredible job honoring the desert beauty by restoring this gorgeous Moroccan inspired hotel that seems to nestle perfectly in the heart of town. You truly enter a little vortex, where everything you could need is on-site and within walking distance. The outside world seems to fade as you walk through the entrance doors. We celebrated a birthday as a couple where we indulged in a one night stay, in the King suite, enjoying the amenities exclusive to hotel guests. We dined at the restaurant, ordered poolside foods & drinks, sat by the bar, soaked in all the bathing areas, and enjoyed the little nooks to lounge. We stayed on a Sunday night and felt we had spaciousness from other guests and privacy to fully relax. Absolutely recommend visiting for an overnight stay as the exclusivity of hotel specific areas is a must to experience. The rooms are also gorgeous and minimalist by nature. The comfort of the bed and clean linens after a day of soaking topped it all! Truly had one of the best nights of sleep and wanted to do it all over again when we rose. As mineral spring connoisseurs, we were impressed by the cleanliness and purity of the waters. Truly healing on every level!! Maintenance staff actively were testing temperature, ensuring the waters remained comfortable and well-kept. Staff overall were helpful and kind. The restaurant menu was diverse and fitting for the setting--hitting the spot with flares of Mexican cuisine. The touches of healthfulness on the menu were appreciated. The pozole soup was warming and a highlight for visiting during the Winer season. Lastly, I can't forget to nod the eclectic and cozy bar, where we enjoyed live music and appetizers before our main sitting. The decor, bites and hospitality took us to another time and place. We intend to visit this hidden gem seasonally as it absolutely nourished and transformed our spirit! & Shoutout to Julie who made our stay unforgettable.

It was easy and the girl at the check in desk was great. Breakfast and the staff member who worked there were also great. And I will say the room was clean so cleaning crew was doing a good job because the issue was more maintenance than anything. The issue was that the room was so old and outdated and the non bed furniture in the room was pretty gross which is why the low score. As I said, all customer service was nice, the only exception was when we asked for 3 extra pillows but were told no, we had enough and only given 1. That did irritate me but I brushed it off (this was a few hours after check In, after we got back to our room after a funeral). We got the suite which is not in the hotel and is actually in a building near the hotel. It is a spacious room but it is sooo worn out. Pillars were rotting and peeling, the rug was dirty and the couch and chair with an ottoman were so disgusting, I was genuinely grossed out and didn't touch them. Additionally, the toilet had a hard time flushing and after leaving some water running in the sink while brushing my teeth, it clogged up a little. Overall, I will not stay here again.

Absolutely not worth the price; comparably-disappointing hotels are less than half the price. Not recommended. Don't fall for the "free breakfast".

As noted in other reviews the rooms are small- my husband and I are NOT small, we managed! The tall bed was comfortable and there was a helpful step placed in the closet so I did not have to resort to a high jump to get in. The bed was comfy. Breakfast was ok- I have a food allergy and staff had to scramble to accommodate it. I didn't think of it when we made the reservations, so that is on me. STAFF WAS AMAZING! Warm, friendly and filled with recommendations on where to eat ( dinner- and of course APPLE PIE!) We all agreed (we were traveling with others) that we would like to come and stay again. When you take into account the afternoon tea and a full breakfast, it's downright budget friendly!

My wife and I stayed in the Julian Gold Rush Hotel for two nights few weeks ago. Here are some pros…read moreand cons: Pros: Price, our room was $155 / night. That would probably pay for parking in San Diego hotels. This is a historic building and an interesting attraction in its own right. Breakfast is included and it was terrific. Food is expensive in Julian. A similar breakfast at a local restaurant would be $20. The staff are great. I met several day managers and the night security guy. They are all terrific people. It is really like staying in someone's home rather than a hotel. These is no TV. I think that belongs with the pros. The location is great. Right in the middle of town. Cons: Our room was tiny. Really tiny. Use the drawers and closets for your stuff so you don't trip over it. A side effect of the smallness of the room is that the heater/ac struggles to control the temperature . The design of any heater/ac unit presumes a room volume. The room is so tiny, the heater's built in control parameters are way off. Parking, parking is "street parking" and on a weekend, it's every man for himself. You may have to drag your bags a block or two. ---------------------- So would we stay there again? Absolutely. I would probably spend a bit more and get one of the small number of larger rooms, if available. If you want to relax and read, I cannot think of a better place. One thing I should mention, if you attempt to make reservations on line, there are half a dozen fake web sites imitating the hotel. They are put up by a dodgy travel company. They are really good imitations. I even an experienced computer user could be fooled. It is best just to call them.

Two hours later the electricity goes outand with it the AC/heater unit, and so I call the front desk and they tell me that it's got to do something with the electric company, funny because there's light in the hallway and other rooms, but not mine. It takes them 3 hrs to solve the issue, which was to reset the circuit breaker. Next morning I check in with the front desk to see if I could go hike on the grounds and or use the jacuzzi, they said it was "unavailable", "all we have is the restaurant and the rooms". Would the website have mentioned the amenities were not available,I would've not stayed there.Monday morning a water line broke,so there was no water in the building I was staying in. I asked to see if I could be put in another room so that my lady and I could shower and get ready and they declined. They said there was no water in the entire hotel. I was pretty upset at this point because now I would have to check into another hotel to shower,so I asked for a one night refund. When I initially asked ,they told me that because I didn't book with themy directly I would have to petition that refund with Snaptravel. So then I asked them if they could give me a written statement( just like the snaptravel website asks to do) stating that they would reimburse me for the one night, and they reluctantly did. Did I get reimbursed by Snaptravel?- NO Lesson of the story: Don't stay at this hotel. It's not worth the money. Another tip: The amenities are most of the time either not available, not working, there's not an attendant, etc. So don't book a hotel because of the amenities they offer. If you're looking for something in particular,do it separately.

Doors did not lock and not all furniture was unpacked so we had to put it together ourselves. While the view and the birds were spectacular, our hosts were not. We would leave work and things would be moved around when we came back, which was invasive and perplexing since there was no maid service in the four weeks we stayed. On several occasions after working the grave shift in the early morning there would be knocks on our doors and occasionally fire alarms would be set off. One day after days of our doors never locking (both the hallway and sliding glass doors) they decided to do maintenance to finally have the doors properly lock, and lock them when they were done. Well because none of the doors to our rooms locked many of us stopped carrying the keys, and upon arriving to locked doors it was hard to get in contact to be let into our rooms. As much as we appreciated being lodged in this clean facility, we could have done away with the hostility and confiscation of personal property from our rooms.
