Like if someone mixed the wrong chemicals when cleaning. The microwave was broken. It being January not much is open, so we were going to heat up dinner & breakfast in our room. We called the number provided but no one ever called us back. We would have changed rooms last night!! I woke up with a migraine!! I ran the bathroom fan on trying to get rid of that smell to no avail. UGH! This may have been a 1 off room, I didn't see anyone else complaining of their room issues outside. We won't be back. What would I do differently? I did everything I was supposed to do. 1) I told the front desk there was a "chlorine like pool smell in our room." I smelled it the minute we walked in. They said "It's coming in from outside and blowing down the pipe, it should clear up." IT DID NOT *** 2) The microwave was broken, I called the number on the paperwork they gave us. It went to VM. I left a message, no one ever called me back! 3) I woke up 2 hours after going to bed with a migraine and I was having trouble breathing. I went out on the balcony for fresh air. It was so cold out but at least I could breathe. My head was pounding!! I went down to my car in the parking lot and sat there for a while. I finally went back upstairs & got my husband, who wasn't bothered at all by whatever this was. I told the lady at the desk about what is going on, it wasn't the same lady so she had no idea what was going on. I went back to my room & changed & left. As we were getting ready to leave I noticed that the cleaning lady was using Clorox. I told her the room smells very strongly of bleach. She said "some people don't like the bleach because it smells strong so I mix it with Fabuloso." I quickly realized what the smell was & looked up what mixing Clorox & Fabuloso would do. It creates a gas! I went down stairs and told the front desk about it. She said she'd give us a discount. Thanks for torturing me, can you pay me now? WE WON'T BE BACK!!! BTW, my husband has been a P-1 Master plumber for 35 years and NEVER heard of BLEACH smell down 'a pipe' before. These folks are crazy!

That's about the nicest things I could say about staying here aside from the sunset view which was pretty good. The bad....the wifi didn't work at all. They give you a sheet with instructions on how to login to the wifi, choose "north or south access point based on room number and floor number..." I included a screenshot, they only have "Anchorage Inn Guest" as an option. If you click it, it asks for a password. The sheet says to enter your username as the room number and then the password anchorage all lower case...well, the sign in screen doesn't ask for a username and says that password is wrong. The TV doesn't have cable but depends on wifi...guess what...it wasn't connected to the "TV Network" either. And it couldn't be connected to the guest network because nothing can connect to it. This was a bit of a problem for me as I fall asleep to TV every night and I couldn't use this TV at all. I called the office. No answer, a voicemail directed me to call a night time number. I called it. The guy there was pretty useless...he had no idea how to connect to the wifi or the password or anything and just told me to talk to the lady at the front desk in the morning. There are no grounded outlets in the room either so if you have anything that needs to plug-in to a three pronged outlet you're out of luck. No USB ports, no room phones...super basic. It did have a fridge. The AC would cool the room to 68 during these mild temps but I'm not so sure it would work in high temps, especially with the fact that you could see light all the way around the door reveal...absolutely no insulation (photo included). This allowed a ton of noise to intrude into the room all night so we didn't get the best sleep. It seems that pre-covid they used to offer some type of continental breakfast. I tried looking on their page and couldn't find out if they still offered it or not, they don't. I get that a lot of places cut costs here, but at least offer coffee, water, and some healthy food options such as apples or bananas. There's only 3 places that open by 7am for breakfast if you have an early ferry ride to catch. The parking lot was all gravel and sand too. Elevator is super slow especially if it's crowded. There are plenty of nearby restaurants within walking distance for dinner. There is a British Cemetery nearby where the land is perpetually leased to England so their soldiers who died fighting for the US can be buried in England. Some nice shops and and ice cream shop down the way as well.

They have single bedrooms (with bunk beds in the hallway) or villas with multiple bedrooms, so it's good a good place for both weekends or week-long stays. I was told that they don't rent villas to people who are not staying for more than a week, which was disappointing. However, this past Memorial Day weekend we stayed in a villa so I'm not sure if that's accurate. It might have been because it rained all weekend and people cancelled. Lighthouse View is within walking distance of several restaurants in town and if you don't feel like eating out, it is fully equipped with a kitchen that has a full refrigerator and stove. If you aren't a fan of swimming in the ocean or just need a break from the beach, they have a pool and a hot tub on site. Additionally, you need a code to get in to the motel and pool, which is convenient because you won't need to carry a key with you everywhere. On my most recent visit, I noticed that they renovated their villas and they look way more modern and up-to-date. The TVs have been upgraded to smart TVs as well, so if it's raining and you need to spend the day inside you can watch Netflix, Disney+, etc.

There were so many charming shops and great places to eat nearby. The suite itself was spotless, tastefully decorated, and had everything we needed. We especially enjoyed having our own kitchen and living room so we could make breakfast and sip coffee while watching the sunrise over the ocean. The pool and hot tub were wonderful too, and everything around the property was very well maintained. Lighthouse View was the perfect choice for a relaxing, romantic getaway. We're already planning to come back again!

If you're looking for a 4 star hotel do not stay here, if you're looking for a comfy family type setting this is your place. We had a pet room and it was okay. Older and needs an update for sure. The grounds are clean and the pool is immaculate. Everyone is really nice even all the motel cats. I'd definitely come back with the whole family. Beach is a quick walk down the street and there is some great coffee at the little shop right around the corner. We're vegan and found a fully vegan donut/coffee truck that was amazing. Swell is awesome.

They have most everything else. We would stay again but remember to bring sand rugs to put next to the bed and in the bathroom. We did find an outdoor shower next to the pool to clean off before going inside. We didn't want to put that much sand down the plumbing system. The Air conditioner is LOUD, bed is hard and noisy. That's the bad of it. The room stays cool and dark if you want it. Not in direct sun. Nice little porch off A and both have separate entrances. My husband and I stayed in B with my parents in A. The kitchen was nicely appointed. Linens were clean but sparse. Glad we brought our own bath towels. We had to use the extra blankets that we found in the chest of drawers. It would have been nice if there was a summary or info sheet in the room of where to find things like the blankets, extra linens, sauna and how to park the carts and plug in. No info. Had to figure it out. My dad needed a low floor and this was perfect. Just three steps from either door. The A side had a walk in shower stall while B had a huge jetted tub. We did not use the tube but were stupefied that they didn't provide a bath mat for getting in and out. That tub is dangerous to step out of when wet. We'd stay here again but will look for somewhere with a view next time. This is more of a hideaway than a hangout spot

The rooms are great, and we actually like the fact that there are no small children staying there (sorry folks) and that you don't run into the staff often. The guests are always friendly and breakfast is great. However, one huge complaint....their parking structure. The last time we stayed in the inn, there were golf carts parked in the car lot...enough of them to limit parking if not completely wiping out all parking spaces. Per the rules, this is not allowed and golf carts need to be parked in the designated golf cart area, but it was not enforced and I got anxiety every time I took my car out thinking we might not get a space when we get back (yes, we had a golf cart too, but car went driving on the beach). I'm on vacation...I don't need any more anxiety! Another complaint...people were hoarding the bikes instead of putting them back on the rack when they were done. I ended up just stealing one from someone's door lol. I don't think this is relevant anymore because I think they got rid of the bikes...but still was an annoyance.

The room had a slight mildew oder but a quick trip to the front desk and I returned with two types of air freshener. Sprayed a little in the A/C and around the room and it was perfect. The only thing I can say a negative was the Air Conditioner. It was a little noisy but other than that we stayed dry and had a clean place to crash. I was impressed with the overall cleaniness of the room and the motel itself.

Originally we were supposed to stay oceanfront, but if you know anything about the Buxton area, you would know that that was pretty unlikely. Right now that whole section of the hotel that is on the ocean is closed. So they put us in a room on the sound side and we actually had to use four-wheel-drive to get into the parking lot because of recent overwash. We were given a two bedroom efficiency unit that had a water view. It was very clean and basic. My only real complaint is that the blinds in all of the windows need to be replaced and need to fit properly. There are so many missing pieces and gaps that you have zero privacy in the living room area. And the broken blinds in the sleeping area let a lot of light in which could be problematic for some. We also woke up to no water because the pipes had frozen. Again, not a big deal given the below freezing temperatures when we were there. We used some bottled water to brush our teeth and were on our way anyway. This place is older and does need some work, but I don't regret booking there. It was fine for what we needed.

I am not sure where to begin to tell readers how bad this experience was. I strongly recommend against booking a room here. 1. My room reeks of pesticides. When I asked about this at the front desk, one person said "it hasn't been sprayed recently." Just then someone else walked in and asked me what room, and I told him. He said that it had. 2. The shower water pressure is very low at temperatures in which you might wish to shower. Cold water. No problem. Tepid water. Well maybe. Hot water. Forget about it. 3. The room's tables have some sort of blisters on the suggesting excess chemical use. 4. I have never ever in all my years of travel to many different countries and at hotels of vastly different degrees of fanciness encountered a more hostile reception desk. I asked them why internet service was so bad. They growled... dude we are on an island. I told them I had just been to an island halfway between Iceland and Scotland (the Faroes) in the middle of the Atlantic with internet somewhere 10-100x better than here, they responded so hostilely I am making sure my door is locked tonight. That bad. That said, the space is lovely. Lots of room. If you are willing to put up with all the other stuff, especially the overt hostility of the front desk, this place is for you. But I am NEVER coming back.
