Denied my application for a shy cat because I keep the garage entry cracked so she would be allowed play in the garage. Basically they took my 45 min application. Found something crazy to complain about and framed it as if I'm dangerous and irresponsible. I have straight A's and a masters degree in business. I own two properties. I make six figures 2 times over. I cherished my cat she was like a child to me. We played for hours. I would have traded everything I own to get her back. She dies and here I am day 5, 8+ hours filling out online applications. These rescues/shelters don't even get back to you. They just use the applications to get tax dollars, and keep the animals to weaponize the 501C3 not-for-profit as a donation tool. Go to Tustin, see how many animals they have. 25 million dollar facility and they have 25 kittens and 3 cats. Where do the thousands of animals off the street go? Do they kill them in the back? I swore years ago I would never deal with another shelter or rescue years ago. At one point I gave up and it was over a year before I eventually adopted my little love. Me and my partner went to petco to buy stuff for our little kitten and we saw they had an adoption event going on, there was people petting cats and even i touched a cat, when i went to touch another cat after putting hand sanitizer (cuz i was told to use it between crates) some old lady PUSHED me and told me to leave, someone else checking out the event even said something to her for being so rude. All the cats are kept in small cramped dirty cages even laying in their own feces, and its very sad, i have a couple cats and would never force them to be together in a small cage like that. If anything these cats need to be rescued from them, thats no way to treat animals at least give them a bigger space. read more

The staff is very rude (especially Carla I believe her name was), i would definitely not suggest adopting from here, they host events occasionally where you see many cats cramped in small cages, not well cleaned either. read more

Update: Carla forgot to mention that there was no signage nor did they distinguish their volunteers. Personally I've offered my own assistance at volunteer events, and being distinguished as a volunteer is an efficient and simple way to better to help volunteers assist participants/patrons. Although the staff are volunteers from my understanding some are very rude and have nasty attitudes, couple months ago witnessed one yelling at a young lad which led to many people telling the older woman to leave them alone (myself included). Not only is that behaviour unacceptable but it discourages individuals from wanting to adopt their cats. read more

We adopted two beautiful kittens from this rescue and couldn't be happier. They were healthy and very thoroughly socialized. Please be very careful with this rescue. We are having a very heartbreaking experience. I have gone through multiple ones for my cats and this is by far the worse. They do not answer truthfully. We adopted a female adult cat and was told she was to be alright around children and other cats. She was also returned after a week or so with her last owner. But we were not given any specifics why. We absolutely love her, but she is not able to live in a home with other animals. She needs to be an only pet with a calm house. You can see the fear and stress in her eyes. You are all no better than Peta. Giving this poor girl a death wish. Trying to pawn her off on others hoping they won't bring her back. How dare you call yourselves animal lovers. Shame on you. I expect you to reach out to me on this issue since it's been over 6 months now. I'm so sad that this loving little life I brought here for myself cannot even be happy in our home. Happy birthday to me I guess? You must understand how painful it is for a family to love another being so much, and to try their best to never give up and work through it. And still feel like they failed. read more

Foxy-Doodle is alive! Thanks to OCSP CAT RESCUE & SOUTH ORANGE COUNTY ANIMAL HOSPITAL My "Tom Cat " FOXY-DOODLE comes to me crying, when I check "him" over, I notice a gash near "his" rectum with white mucus or puss oozing out. So I clean it up, put antibiotic ointment and dress it up the best I could. WAIT FOR IT.... WAIT FOR IT... OMG Foxy-Doodle is a pregnant female cat and from that moment everything went South ‼She gave birth to 6 kittens 1 died at birth and 2 more in the next 4 days now are down to 3 kittens left which is going up for adoption this week 1/15/22. Foxy-Doodle ended up getting mastitis and was close to dead I had no way of paying for a huge vet bill way over $5,000 so I emailed every pet rescue in California looking for some help. That is when the most wonderful lady in the world "MARY" called me and asked if I have received any help with Foxy-Doodle, if not she could help out. She sent Carla to pick up Foxy-Doodle and she was at the South Orange County Animal Hospital for over a month. They removed all her breast and more. She would have been dead within 24 to 48 hrs. I can't thank you folks enough for everything you have done for us. Foxy-Doodle is happy and healthy and full of life. Just her near death experience changed her personality to daring and don't give a F***. AGAIN THE BIGGEST THANKS TO OCSP CAT RESCUE AND SOUTH ORANGE COUNTY ANIMAL HOSPITAL. I've adopted with these people before and I gotta say very rude and neglectful of the cats. We adopted a cat named Merlin and sadly they never informed of the declining health Merlin was in so we were stuck with medical issues and billing we could barely keep up with. As well as the ladies who organize are extremely rude. On Saturday my friend was looking with her partner and they were rudely denied to look at the cats for adoption. read more

I came in hoping to adopt a cat, only to be told that because I already have a cat my one bedroom apartment was too small. I mentioned I have researched how to introduce cats to one another (I have a 2 year old cat right now), and the woman there still insisted that my one bedroom was not big enough. She would prefer to leave the cat in a cage and assumed my bedroom was too small. I will be looking else where for a cat, so please unless you have a 2 bedroom don't bother here. After never hearing back from a couple of other places on PetFinder, we decided to give this place a try as our last attempt before giving up on cat searching for now. I must've submitted the application around midnight and received a non-automated response like 10 minutes later inviting me to an adoption event that same day. So we went; I held a cat that I fell in love with as Molly (who reviews the applications) walked up to me and asked, "Are you Brenda? That's exactly the cat I had in mind for you." I was so thankful for the care and concern Carla gave us regarding having to find my son's wonderful cat Toby, a place. She even drove the extra mile to San Clemente to pick up Toby and then took him to get him vaccinated. She has also kept us updated on how great Toby is doing. We went to Petco in Tustin to adopt a cat through OCSP because we lost our 18 year old cat to kidney disease. Molly, the lady who showed us the kittens, was very nice, but the other lady (probably the owner or manager of OCSP) was condescending and unhelpful. We filled out an application to adopt a cat which required non related references which she said they will call to ask about how we live. We are a private couple that have never invited or had a friend or acquaintance come over to our house. Also, my previous cat was a scaredy cat, so we only rarely even had family over. We told her our situation and she insisted it's impossible and that we have to have friends that have visited our house. I understand the protocol but we value our privacy. We told her we would invite a few people over to our house then she could call them and ask any questions about our living situation but she said it didn't work that way. The poor cat lost a chance of immediately having a home because of this lady. If you want to adopt a cat from OCSP do not bother if you are new to the area without friends or a private person or family. We met with another pet adoption service after we left and were not faced with the same ridiculousness. read more

i was a volunteer here and ended up adopting 2 cats. absolutely 2 awesome cats. they host their cats in petco and petsmart around orange county. they take care and care for the cats well while they find new homes. thank you guys for expanding my family with 2 cats that are the world to me. funny i was never a cat person but i am now. It's NOT closed!!!!! It's a MOBILE adoption group. They hold adoptions at select Petcos and The Puppy Place in Main Place Mall on Saturdays. I am a foster for OC Small Paws and will tell you first hand we put our whole hearts into the care of these kittens and cats. The kittens/cats we take on come from shelters where,most of the time, they would otherwise be killed. In my case I take the baby kittens who would otherwise be euthanized just because they are under weight and/or need bottle feeding. When I get them they are homeless,dirty,hungry and just looking for a chance to survive. After weeks of weaning, vet visits, cleaning, snuggling and training they go up for adoption. And I can testify first hand to the absolute quality families we let adopt our kittens. We put so much effort and love into them. We don't get paid or reimbursed for our expenses, we each do this because we want to save their lives. We ensure they are fixed, microchipped, had their shots and clean bill of health before we deem them adoptable. Therefore, we really do the necessary legwork of the application process to ensure our kittens/cats go to homes that are going to care for them as we do. We even take any of our kittens/cats back in the event the adopters are no longer able to care for them. I read the post of the woman who gave us 1 star and my complete apologies go out to her. I hope in time she will understand that no business is perfect but we do have that policy for a reason. Those with applications completed come first. We have so so so many potential adopters tell us they want a kitten, we hold a kitten and then they drop off the face of the planet. Then the older the kitten gets it becomes harder to adopt. The heart of that policy is goodness and meant to be in the best interest of the kittens/cat. At the end of the day we want them to get loving, caring forever homes. read more

I talked myself into adopting a cat a while back, and then started the search. I checked at local adoption events at the pet stores and came across OC Small Paws. I ended up visiting four different local Petco stores (who partner with OC Small Paws on adoptions), and I must say that all the volunteers were so kind a helpful. I met Mary (the president) at the Petco in Huntington Beach (right across the street from where I live), but I was particularly impressed with Liz in Mission Viejo. These ladies answered all my questions, but more than that I can tell they really care about their rescue pets. At the end of the day (figuratively speaking), OC Small Paws found a cat for me that is a great fit for my household. Tanise is adorable, and so much fun to play with and watch. I've been volunteering with this rescue for about 3 years now and I love them! They have reasonable adoption requirements and work really hard to socialize and care for the cats. They have adoption events all over the county and lots of cats in foster homes so if you don't see a cat you like right away they can probably point you to a cat you will like. read more

We had a heartbreaking experience with this organization. We reached out to them about a specific kitten we wanted to adopt and went to see her at the first chance we were given. When meeting the kitten in person we fell in love with her and were told to come back in a few days to pick her up after her vet appointment. While we were there in person we were handed a hard copy of the application and told to bring it back with us when we picked her. I also had an electronic copy that had been emailed to me but the formatting wasn't working so since I was told I could fill out the hard copy one instead I did that and had it ready to go for that Wednesday when we were supposed to pick her up. We bought all the supplies needed and had everything set up for her in her little room at our home. The day before we were supposed to pick her up I reached out by email to confirm the time and place for pick up the next day and what they needed me to bring with me. I never heard back, so I emailed again later that day and got a call late that night that there had been another couple that had come to pick up a cat they had applied for and instead they wanted our cat after they saw her. Because they had already filled out an application for the first cat they wanted, they were promised our kitten and we were never told that our kitten had been given to someone else until I reached out to them expecting to be picking her up the next day. This is after being told in person by the two people from this organization that I was the first on the waiting list and anyone else interested in her would be placed in line after us. I had asked at that time if we could just pay for her then or make a deposit or something to guarantee that we would get her without any problems. They just smiled and said don't worry, you are the first in line for her. We were left devastated and are still unable to find a kitten we loved as much as her. I will never go through this organization and don't recommend it to anyone after being totally misled. read more

I chose this rescue group precisely because they offered to drive the foster cat to a vet in my stead if I couldn't, and I was too sick to do so at the time. And true to their word, they drove to my house to deliver the cat and did it again to administer shots. Due to my health, I was very stringent about the kind of cat I could foster, and was hesitant about offering for fear of being judged, but they were very accommodating and communicative, and picked out the perfect cat for my needs. Instant love, smooth adoption process, and now the cat and I are hitting three years of being family. I'll definitely be coming back to OC Small Paws for my second cat when we move to a bigger house. It's obvious that they care for their cats very much. read more

Can't say enough good things about OC Small Paws, the people, and the work they do. We had a feral mama cat and her two kittens living under our deck and were at a loss of what to do. I emailed several shelters who couldn't offer any help, but luckily Liz responded pretty quickly and was able to offer guidance. Tamara jumped in to help us trap mama and kittens and walk us through how to care for and socialize them, and Gena helped coordinate getting mama spayed (even taking her to/from the vet) so we could release her. Thanks to them, we got the two formerly wild kittens socialized and found them a forever home!
