We rented an off-road vehicle from Offroad Gatlinburg yesterday expecting an actual off-road experience. Based on their advertising, website, and what we were told when booking, we believed we'd be taking the vehicle onto mountain trails and participating in genuine off-roading. Unfortunately, that was not the case. When we arrived, the employee at the front desk immediately informed us that we needed proof of auto insurance and a credit card. While that's completely understandable, none of this was communicated to us beforehand, so we had to spend time digging through our phones and paperwork to find the information. When I explained that this requirement was not included in the information we received, he argued with me rather than simply acknowledging the oversight. Throughout the entire interaction, he acted as though we were inconveniencing him. The biggest disappointment came when we asked about the trails. We were told that we could not actually take the vehicle off-road and had to remain on public roads unless we paid extra for a guided tour. This was completely different from what we understood when booking. As locals, we drive these mountain roads regularly and can enjoy those views anytime in our own vehicle. The whole reason we rented an "off-road" vehicle was to experience off-roading. Once the employee learned that we weren't tourists, his attitude became even worse. He seemed annoyed that we were asking questions. The drive itself was beautiful because the Smoky Mountains are beautiful, but there was nothing about the experience that justified renting a specialty off-road vehicle. We could have seen the exact same sights from our personal car. To make matters worse, when we returned the vehicle and asked if there was anything else we needed to do before leaving, we were then told that we were responsible for refilling the gas tank. Again, this had never been mentioned beforehand. In fact, we were told when booking that gas was included in the rental cost. Overall, the vehicle was fine and the scenery was great, but the communication, professionalism, and customer service were extremely disappointing. If you're looking for a true off-road experience, make sure you fully understand what is and isn't included before booking. Based on our experience, I would recommend looking into other companies first. read more

After arriving on time bc you don't want to be late. It holds others up. We checked in and bought some goggles and a neck gator to keep the dust out of our face. (Didn't work too good) He gave a safety briefing to the drivers and we loaded up. We made a lap around a circle to get familiar with the machines. Ours had plenty of power. They run in 4x4 the whole trip which you need some of the time for sure. We rode at a pretty good pace and following closely to try and avoid the dust. You see how we started and how we were half way through. A load of trails to ride on. We had a good guide for sure. It's was only three plus him in our group. It was nice to have a small group. We overall had a blast. I would definitely go back. This is a great time! I grew up in the woods riding dirt bikes, four-wheelers etc and this was fun. Great job! read more

We had a great time at Off Road! Although you are in a group following each other, the ride is definitely adventurous enough - not boring. Tons of hills, curve and rocks to overcome. Not first timers either. We have a side by side at home, but the trails are more interesting here. Kids were 7 & 9 and had a blast. It rained half way through, which made it even more fun. There is nothing better than ripping through the mud while listening to wild music. It was amazing!! 100% worth every penny!! You will receive an introductory talk about the rules and how to drive the units properly. You can purchase ponchos to help keep you dry and bandannas to keep your mouth and nose clear. The trails were so fun and the views were amazing! We went when the leaves were changing so it was sooo beautiful! It had rained a little our day so the trails had a little mud that only added to the fun. Both guides that went with our group were great. First, the experience was falsely marketed. There is nothing extreme about it. It's not a 'tour'. It's a UTV park with criss crossing trails and you are stuck behind a guide the entire trip along with 12 ish other UTVs. Max speed was 10 and average was 3-5 o. Easily the entire family's (there are 6 of us) least liked adventure. Save your money and go white water rafting instead. THAT was fun. THIS is boring. read more

Our family of 7 had a BLAST on the 90 min tour this morning. We did the 9:00 to beat the heat and so glad we did. The trails were very dusty (get goggles and a bandanna, trust me). Our family ages 6, 7, 16, 20, 24, 38, and 52 all had so much fun. The guides were awesome and the trails were just adventurous enough to be super fun but not to make me too nervous. The whole thing was well managed and everyone was super friendly. Only portajon bathrooms available and no running water and soap. No cell signal up there but they had wifi at the starting point. The lookout point was INCREDIBLE. Best view we've seen since we've been here. 10/10 recommend. read more

This place was fun at times, but at other times was disappointing. I enjoyed the ride, it was rough terrain, and messy, but enjoyable. However, the ride stopped 3 times (not on purpose) and took an amount of time out of our three hours. On one occasion, the guide got stuck, the other two were the driver's fault. It was like a train, and was extremely slow. We stopped at the top of the mountain for the "Million Dollar View". It took about 15 minutes to get on the road again. My favorite part was when I got muddy and got to throw mud balls at my mother-in-law... we laughed extremely hard, especially because she didn't even realize I was doing it. read more

You continuously circle around on the same small trail network, probably private property, for the entire time giving the impression it's a long journey to the final destination. Great week/family reunion from OR, WI and SC made even BETTER with this experience. Make sure you have an experienced driver with you so you don't end up in the slow group at the end (Read the poor reviews to find these folks). After an important, thorough briefing (yes, it was fairly brief) on expected procedures and safety, we were assigned our rides. The first 20 minutes is a test as the amazing guides, Drew and Kaleb, are checking your ATV driving skills. The slow drivers (I would have been one of them if I was driving) get the slow guide in the back train. Every experience will be different depending on how much rain there was the day(s) before. Kaleb and Drew have a responsibility to keep you from leaving in a stretcher and sometimes conditions aren't optimal. In other reviews, you will note how engaging they are-same experience with us. We had quite a bit of puddles to consume, yet were able to go at a thrilling pace. This was the first time my bride of 43 years and I had ever done anything like this and were both a bit intimidated by the thought, but wow, it was great right from the git-go. There was one hiccup, a confirming text was not received until 6AM and then another at 7. We went to the Gatlinburg office a half hour before show time without realizing we were supposed to drive out to the Seiverville location. This must not be unusual, they quickly rescheduled us for later in the day when we called telling them we couldn't get there on time. If you aren't there on time, you can't hold up 20 other ATV's. They won't wait for you so as not to affect 80+ others. That said, by splitting into three groups, you don't realize there are that many. It worked out OK for us, we found a sweet roll place in Pigeon Forge called Cinnaholic that was very good so we got to leave the area with even less in our wallet. I'm going to quote Brynna M, whose review is in the column next to me as a write because it's how we feel, too. "I felt like it was the perfect amount of time, for a decent price." Amazing doesn't even begin to describe how much fun this was! It was definitely one of the top highlights of our vacation. Expect to get a bit muddy and do some true off roading as your UTV climbs steep hills, goes around sharp bends, over large rocks, through deep ruts, through mud, etc all at a decent speed. The view at the top of their mountain was breathtaking and we had the opportunity to get out and take some pictures. We booked two 6 person vehicles for a group of 11. They let us switch drivers at a couple of points so those that wanted to & had licenses could drive. (We could have booked more vehicles but wanted to keep costs down for our group) there were a couple other groups/families combined with us for the tour. The guide (Corey, if I remember correctly) was awesome. We had a great time bouncing up and down the hills and through the creeks. It was very dusty so be sure to bring some sunglasses or goggles to protect your eyes! read more

Perfect weather and a good tour with a stunning view at the top. The Honda Talon 4 seater did us well!! Sadly because a family arrived when the tour was to start and not 30 minutes before as instructed, the tour started 30 mins late and even though we were told we would still get the full 90 minute tour, we didn't. It was cut short by 20 minutes which was extremely disappointing and the reason I wouldn't return. Offroad Gatlinburg should have made the family reschedule since they were late - instead the other 15 people in the tour suffered a shorter than advertised experience. We have been on many similar detours but this was the first where we didn't wear helmets, but both guides did. read more

Horrible experience. We rented two street legal 4 seater SxS machines for 4 hours. The girl that checked us in was clearly hungover. She arrived late and never inspected the SxSs before sending us out for the day. After getting into the national park we realized the one SxS had no gas so we had to backtrack miles to get gas. Once we got back into the park the same SxS overheated because "the coolant was low" and broke down in the middle of Cades Cove Loop. There is no cell service up there so we had to separate to go find a rangers station to call the girl at the office to send help. It took ~3 hours for them to find and get them back to Gatlinburg. Our entire day was ruined because they failed to inspect and sent us out with 4-seater Cam-Am should have never been on the road!!! They also never responded to me when I reached out about refund. Poorly managed rental company - do yourself a favor and go to any of the other places in the area! read more

Avoid this place. Went on an awful tour today. Didn't break 10 mph more than twice. The staff lost half the tour on the mountain and made us stay seated in a line for 20 mins while they searched the mountain. On their website, they advertise it as great for guys. What type of guy pays $300 for an hour and a half ATV rental and wants to go under 10 mph the whole time? So lame. The tour was supposed to be an hour and a half. I don't think we actually drove more than 50 mins but we spent plenty of time sitting in line doing nothing. A total scam. Oh and if your wondering the address is 890 Spurgeon Hollow road and it's probably a lot further than you thought if your staying in Gatlinburg. There's so many places to rent these things. We rented 3 times during our week in Gatlinburg and enjoyed every single time. 2 of the 3 were the off road tours and Luke and Lucas were our guides. Both were great guides! the Sunset tour was our favorite because of the beautiful view and extra time riding waiting for the perfect sunset shot. We come to the mountains a lot and will use this company every time! One piece of advice - buy the goggles! So worth it. That way you can experience the whole ride with eyes wide open!! read more

This trip was well worth the high price! Would be even better if you have a big family! They had a vehicle that held 6 people. This was such a different experience than anything we've done while visiting the area. The tour guides were very informative and made us feel educated before getting on the trails. We eased into them to get used to the vehicle first. My child was grumpy after her early morning rise and long drive but after the first bump she couldn't stop laughing and smiling. Thanks Kanam for the great time and waters! Make sure to bring money to tip them at the end, they deserve it. The view was beautiful! Feel free to bring a cooler and some snacks too. Excellent equipment. The off-road trails were very surprising! The "Jeep's" (they are not actual Jeep's) but I like them better they power through the steep inclines and declines. There is even a stopping point that has an amazing view! I would certainly recommend. Pricing is very fair for 2 hours of trail riding. An outstanding Extreme Off-Road Tour adventure for our group of five adults and four teens! One of the owners, Luke Oley, and his brother met us in the Gatlinburg office. They were especially helpful in giving us personalized service and recommendations. We rented two four-seaters (a Talon and a CanAm X3), and one of our party drove with Luke. The vehicles were well-maintained and in superior condition. The excellent guides in the field made safety a priority. The course was challenging, and everyone had a lot of fun. We followed some tight and winding trails to a mountain overlook that offered gorgeous Smoky Mountain views. There were opportunities to switch drivers too. By the end of the trip, the most hesitant driver among us (her first time doing an off-road experience) wanted to do it all over again. We highly recommend Off-Road Gatlinburg for an active adventure in the mountains! Definitely a great family activity for teens. A+! read more

My husband and I had an amazing time taking the 2 person Maverick up to Clingmans Dome and grotto falls! We even got stuck under the falls by a baby bear playing in our pathway back down! Awful customer service and false advertising... Let me start by saying the actual vehicle is very fun. Me and a friend rented a 2 seater from them and had zero issues. We followed the route that the front desk clerk told us to follow. On the way along the road down the paved road he told us to follow we saw some mud on the side of the road and drove through it. It has been raining here for weeks so as you can imagine the side of this paved road we were told to follow was quite muddy. Seeing as we were renting an off-road vehicle we enjoyed splashing through the mud with no problems. Upon return we were fined $250 by the front desk clerk who stated the vehicle is too dirty and that half the life off the axles are gone. We argued it's an off-road vehicle and never took it off road we followed the path we were told and even followed the rules on the website which that stated that some off-roading is allowed. When asked where he pulled this fine from he had no answers and was quite rude. We just wanted to know why we were being charged for an off-road vehicle being dirty and following the rules on the website that say some off-roading is allowed even though we just hit mud puddles on the side of the paved road we were told to utilize. We were also told the route for our 2 hour rental would consume that time. We followed the route 2 entire times because of how quick it was. I guess if you have fun and follow the rules of the website and get mud on an OFF-ROAD vehicle you just get fined for it. Oh the 2 hour rental cost $189. The fee for it being muddy was $60 more than it cost to rent.... absolutely disgusting service and robbery. I could have understood a $100 cleaning fee or some sorts. WHAT A RIP OFF! Avoid this place at all costs. Ernie (the owner) is beyond rude. There is no place to park. they tell you to park on the street, The sign says one hour parking. We heard them tell the group ahead of us not to worry nobody cares if you wear a mask. Also Ernie and Lisa got into an argument and he started yelling and screaming at her in front of everyone. Once we got the rental, traffic was horrible and for a two hour rental, we spent over an hour just trying to get out of town. When we got back, he charged us a $250 cleaning fee! He got totally irate and said he was charging our card anyway. We were just glad to get away from him and his wife. This place and these people are the absolute worst. There is a place right up the street with better vehicles, give them a try instead. read more

My husband and I are on our honeymoon in Gatlinburg because our European honeymoon was canceled and our St Lucia one was canceled. So we drive in for Memphis and we're cruising up and down the parkways and see people driving in these cool little cruisers. I look at the number and the website and see that they do off-road tours. I'm a person who believes that one alternate form of transportation greatly enhances any vacation. So we called them put down our deposit and the next day went into sign the contract and get directions. We did the off-roading on Friday with a really big family from New York and our awesome guide and his daughter. I've done a lot of off-roading tours in Arizona through the desert so this was not terribly exciting but it was beautiful mountain country and forest. At the top of the mountain is what they call a 5 million dollar view, as there are 300 least acres privately for their use. It is a great view, and definitely worth the trip. I highly recommend this and hope that you check out Kan Am. We will be back if we come back with the kids! read more

One of the BEST things we have ever done on vacation! We did the 1.5 hour off-road tour and would highly recommend it to anyone in that area for vacation. We were staying in Seiverville and drove just over an hour to get to the location, but it was worth it! We got to pick out utv ahead of time and it was ready for us when we got there. We were a bit late due to an RV accident on one of the very curvy roads back there, but when I called the staff was very friendly and accommodating to us. We had Ricardo and Luke (I think were their names) as guides and they were great guys! The ride itself was so much fun- and then getting to the top and the views, well standing there atop that mountain and taking in the view was worth all the money and all the drive alone! Words can't describe it! The guides let us enjoy it awhile and we're happy to take pics for us. I would recommend wearing clothes you don't mind getting dust covered and wearing sunglasses or the googles they sell onsite- you def will get dust blow back and want eye covering. Our sunglasses worked just fine. We were the only ones in our tour so they sped it up a bit, based on our comfort, which I loved! I can't imagine paying money to rent atv/utv and then drive them on the road - lame. Do this instead - it's worth it!! read more

Our family did the off road adventure....definitely worth the money! Having experienced off road adventures in other destinations, we were looking for a similar experience while visiting the Smokies, and found Kan Am. Our family rented the Roxor vehicles for an off-road adventure. The trails are about 45 min drive outside of Gatlinburg, but worth the drive. Be prepared....it is a VERY bumpy and wild ride on the trails. When we visited, there had not been much rain, therefore it was dusty.....but still lots of fun. I can only imagine that with a little more rain, that running through muddy trails and streams would be an absolute blast. This is a locally owned company and offers the only off roading options in the area. If you are looking for an adventure that is "off the grid" of the Gatlinburg chaos.....I would strongly recommend this one read more
