Wow, what a great experience. I just moved to Hollister and called to see if I could bring my two Trek mountain bikes in for service. Brian was super helpful and said I could bring my bikes in anytime. I brought them in the next day and they were ready in under 24 hours. Both bikes were very shiny and clean! Brian also helped me unload them from my car and load them back in. He was extremely pleasant and I am so happy there is a great bike shop close in Hollister. Thank you! read more

Brian and Chris have been so helpful with my various questions and issues on my Canondale CAAD12 switching from 105 to Ultegra. They also offer group rides a couple times a week out of the shop that's great to ride with the community, which I have not had the bike back up and running yet to do ( Learning to do maintenance on my own bike ). Though they were $30 more expensive for a BMX bike tune up than the Gilroy bike shop, I saved myself TWO ROUND TRIPS to Gilroy and 4 gallons of gas. Sometimes a few extra dollars spent locally saves you hundreds in time & fuel.... unless your time is worthless. Brought the bike in one day, done by 3 pm the next. Nice little bicycle store in hollister owner operated and ran. They offer bicycle services, Specialized bicycles and, bicycle accessories. The prices are higher than department store but the quality of the merchandise is better and you can't find it anywhere else in town. Bought a Specialized hardrock maybe four years ago still rides great. read more

I ride my bike everyday . I needed a new tire and tube they did it while I waited. On another day I rode by, dropped in without an appointment and mentioned I heard a clicking in my crank while pedaling the bike. The older gentleman took my bike in immediately adjusted my bike and fixed the problem while I waited. When I tried to pay him he said no worries and thanked me for my business. I will be back for all my needs to this bike shop. Service and very professional and very polite people to interact with. The staff is well informed and took time to get me matched up with the correct bike for my size, my riding style and my pocket book. I was not pressured to purchase nor was I dismissed. The owner of this store has always been nice, but recently I called on a day when the mechanic was managing the store. I called for selfish purposes, to ask if I could have their old bicycle boxes for my garden for weed control/mulch. Without hesitation, he said to come on by. They were in the middle of receiving a shipment, but he made me a priority even though I wasn't purchasing anything & didn't make me feel like a self-serving turd for doing so. He gathered up as many boxes as he had & packed them up efficiently & said to come by anytime to get more if needed. He was so kind & personable & made me feel like there are still good people in this world. He made me loyal for life because of his kindness & willingness to help. I will think of him every time I look at my weed free garden & ever improving soil. I hope his good karma comes back to him 10 fold! He deserve it. read more

I took a bike I bought elsewhere in and had Brian fit it to me. He took 3 hours with me and got me dialed in. The fit is very comfortable. While this bike shop is a little expensive on some things: 'knowledge is money' and they know their stuff. I recommend Off the Chain to any level of rider. read more

I joined owner Brian for the regular Saturday 8AM ride. Had great time. We did 21 miles through the beautiful country roads & rolling hills around Hollister. I was on my SLOW but sure touring bike and Brian stayed back with me with lots of good advise to improve my riding. Owner Brian is a long time bike geek and worked12 year for Specialized designing frames. No kidding, if you have any needs, wants or questions this shop is the place to go. I came here to purchase a new bike for myself and my son. The level of customer service was good, but over priced. You can get the same level of customer service anywhere else and better pricing. I also felt there wasn't enough selection. The bike owner was trying to sell me something out of a catalog. Sorry, but I have to test drive what I purchase for myself and my son. read more

I've been going to Off the Chain for many years and am always impressed with the excellent workmanship, depth of knowledge, and the fact that Brian and Chris don't just wrench, but ride hard too. An anecdote to illustrate my point... I brought them a vintage Miyata road bike to refurbish. After a lengthy talk with Brian, I upgraded my rear wheel and tire, bought a new saddle, re-taped the bars, and did a tune-up. The parts/labor cost about $300.00. After I got the bike home I started to clean it up and discovered there was a crack in the frame. I took it back to the shop to have it diagnosed (was it a critical crack?) and was told that the fracture was critical and that the bike wasn't safe to ride. Feeling bad that he didn't catch the crack before the parts were bought and the work done, Brian offered to help me find a replacement frame and said that he'd strip the old bike and rebuild the new one without charge. And that's what happened. We scoured the internet for three weeks to find a suitable frame/fork. In the end, I had a gorgeous vintage road bike build by an expert mechanic and the hours of labor to make it happen was gratis. Suffice to say, Brian really went above-beyond to help me out. It's hard to imagine another shop going to these extremes to make sure a customer is satisfied. Now I drive from Gilroy to Hollister because I don't think better customer service can be had anywhere. read more

First off, the customer service is poor. I took in a brand new Trek bike and asked for a tune-up quote. They quoted me $90. I then proceeded to ask about other services, parts and products unrelated to my bike. It felt like I was pulling teeth to get answers. The looks on the two salesmen's faces were as if to say, "lady stop wasting my time." They also had a bit of an attitude. Overall it is a pitty because other members of my family have high-end bikes which need servicing and they will end up losing out. This brings me to my second point...over priced! Probably due to a monopoly in the city but if you can help it, head over to Sunshine Bikes in Gilroy on First Street. They charged me $60 and I even baught a bike trainer wheel off of them at $45 because they were so darn helpful. They were pleasant to deal with and had very customer service friendly attitudes. I will definitley take my husband's mountain bike there to get a tune-up. read more
