I'm genuinely sad to be the first one to not give them a high rating. I hate having to drive all the way to the east side for meat. We called in our order during quarantine. We only go out for necessities and have been finding that local businesses are preferring calling in orders to be picked up. Apparently not this one. We ordered on Friday morning to be picked up Saturday morning. Staff on the phone and in store were very friendly. Our biggest complaint is by calling in and not picking the items out ourselves, we got the worst of the cuts. We ordered a good amount of meat. A Chuck roast, 8 short ribs, a brisket, and when we got there we picked up 8 sausages since they weren't busy. Our order was well over $100 and since we share with the neighbors we would have been back very soon. The sausages were excellent and I highly recommend them. They are made in house. All the meats had excellent flavor. We smoke our big cuts of meats so marbling is always a plus. As soon as we got home we prepped everything and noticed there was a lot more marbling on the meats than we are used to. But we decided to give it a try since "professionals" picked it out for us and we threw it all (except the sausage) on the smoker. 12 hours later we pulled it off and found out that way too much of the meat was just fat. 3 of the 8 short ribs were inedible and just greasy chunks, a 1/3 of the chuck roast was solid fat and had to be thrown away, the brisket was ok but there was still too much marbling that we had to cut around. Our pitty loves when we smoke meat because she knows she's going to get all the greasy scraps, but even she ended up eating too much and threw up. That's when you know the cuts weren't good quality, when even the dog can't handle it. This place won't be our first choice to go in the future because our first experience with knowledgeable staff picking out our items, was not what we expected. We didn't take the time to go in and that's our fault, but during quarantine we thought calling in our order would be preferred since it's a locally owned store and not a large space. Instead we got the meat that they probably wouldn't have put out in the cases. With the other reviews I can't see that any of our meats came from the display case since there is no way they would have passed as having the quality that other reviewers talk about. Moral of the story... if you are going to buy your meat here, take the chance of getting coronavirus and don't order over the phone for pick up. Go pick it out yourself and try to stay 6 feet away from other customers. Or order from somewhere else. read more

We've been in once and had a great experience! We had been meaning to stop by for a while, and finally came in on a Sunday 10 minutes before close (we were those people). Right away, there were two other people rushing in before they closed. Good sign that people tried to make it in last minute for their Sunday dinners. The selection was low on just a few things (it was the end of the week) but there were still sooo many good options! Marinated meats, wings, pork, chops, tomahawks, you name it. I originally wanted a steak but we chose two flavored sausages and two burgers...the bill was less than $15. You really can't beat it for fresh meat and excellent customer service. Both staff members never made us feel rushed or even acted like they were trying to close. I don't know the name of the woman who helped us but she pointed out a few popular options which was helpful. They have an awesome frozen section with exotic meats/fish and even fresh dog food. This is more than a butcher shop. I went with my sister and and my daughter and we were very impressed. It was a culinary boutique tucked away in a strip mall. Besides all the amazing meat selections, they had displays of sauces, seasonings and baked items. Everywhere you looked there was something to tempt you. We purchased several of the sauces and a couple bottles of salad dressing. My daughter bought some beef jerky and several sauces for gifts. The staff was very helpful and directed us to the right cuts of meat for our needs and made thoughtful suggestions for preparing them. I only wish I lived closer so I could visit more often. read more

I had a bit of sticker shock after buying two ribeyes but after my husband cooked them beautifully, I see now you get what you pay for! They were delicious and super tender. I also picked up a pre cooked twice baked potato, blue cheese butter and button mushrooms. Yum!! The only thing I was turned off by was the 10% surcharge for using cash over $50. That was a bit of a head scratcher. Otherwise, two thumbs up. I definitely recommend this place. read more

Finally found a decent meat shop in the west valley! I am rather picky when it comes to the cut and quality of meat that I purchase so I go out of my way to buy from meat shops. Off the Hook has a great selection of fresh meats and an equally good selection of rare meats and fish in the frozen section. We experienced great customer service from the staff and enjoyed hearing that this is a family business. My only "beef" with this place are the prices, but you get what you pay for so for superior meats I expect to pay a premium. Cant' wait to return to this place and stock up! read more

This place is awesome I definitely would recommend them to everyone I know. The quality of their meats is phenomenal and the other cool part is that even though I'm pescatarian to my shock they have an awesome selection of fish and seafood as well and it was great. My fiancé got a nice bone in Prime rib and I got and awesome piece of Halibut I also picked up some trout for later this week. But we did grill the meat and halibut and let me tell ya you can definitely tell that it's great quality. The staff was awesome and they take pride in what they do. Standing waiting for service while another customer was asked if he needed help, he said no, the associate then walked to the back of the store. Fortunately an older gentleman intervened and asked if I needed help. We've come here since the establishment opened. I generally buy the top sirloin; always have had it butterflied with no issue. Asked for that service today and was told that they were "incapable" of doing it by a female that I was told later was the actual owner. Same gentleman politely asked if he could be of service and I explained the situation to him and he very nicely said it's "easier" for them to cut it the way they do and also that it's would not cook evenly with an uneven hand cut. The disconnect for me is I've gone to a butcher shop and asked you to cut a piece of meat to my specifications and I'm told that the butcher shop is INCAPABLE of doing it not to mention the female owner was extremely curt when I questioned her on other cuts of meat I saw in the case. You can always tell when certain businesses are doing good because they start dealing with customers differently. At the end of the day I guess it's unfortunate for me in that I have lost the convenience of a butcher that is close, but I refuse to spend money with a company that does not appreciate my business. I have made purchases here 3-4 times in the past, and was very satisfied with the steaks I had purchased, even though the prices were high, I felt I had received a superior product, in comparison to other meat purveyors. I went back a couple weeks ago, and purchased a large Ribeye Steak, and was very upset and disappointed with the flavor, and tenderness. This steak was as tough as shoe leather, and the cost was $34.00. This last purchase will make me not return to this business. read more
