Very casual with decent food. Food: The blackened rib-eye sandwich was good, but nothing special. The lobster in avocado was not that good - too many onions. I personally like lobster meat and see no reason to add too much other stuff to it. Value: Reasonable, except for the lobster and avocado. Way over priced at $22 considering the quality. Atmosphere: Very casual friendly vibe with good live music and a view of the bay across the street. Service: Friendly. Drinks: Yes. I wish they had a bigger selection of craft beers on tap. We went last night and It's right on the highway but you can see Sandy Hook and views of ocean/river. We ate buffalo wings, clams and shrimp in a garlic white wine sauce which was to die for and lastly a seafood trio over penne( tons of lobster, shrimp and scallops). It was all excellent and I would go back again. Server was also great. Perfect place to grab lunch and drinks on a summer day, very low key. read more

I'm a big fan of the lobster bisque. The first time is was awesome and the second time it was pretty good. Lots of lobster the first time, not so much the second. The hamburger was so so. This was my first ever visit. It was a Saturday at 1pm after a morning at the beach. I had a choice of a table either inside or outside or a seat at the bar, also either inside or outside. I choose the outside bar which had it's own bartender. Diane seemed popular since all the regular patrons seemed to know her. I ate Sun Burnt Chicken Pasta while listening to country music and watching Little League baseball, Yankees baseball and preseason football. It was an good environment to eat lunch. It would had been great if intermittent loud noises from passing motorcyclist didn't constantly interrupt everyone's conversation and tranquility. The pasta was basic but the chicken was very tasty. Came here after a day at the beach, so hungry for great seafood, in particular, oysters. Now, you would think that a place on the bay with outdoor seating and ambience would specialize in seafood. Not so. They had seafood on the menu, but had a good mix of other dishes. Hamburgers, chicken, pasta. I had ordered the tuna, seared and my partner a fish sandwich. His sandwich was very good but my tuna was just plain bad. Bad a in "fishy" tasting. When in doubt, throw it out. I was in severe doubt as to whether or not it was bad or the seasonings but i wasn't taking any chances with almost raw fish. They were fine with returning the dish however. We also shared their drink the rum bucket. It was an average sugary sweet rum based drink. Overall, we would most likely not return here but rather stick with Bahrs across the way. read more

We were told a 25 minute wait on a Saturday night...which was great...but even better was when our buzzard went off before we even ordered our drinks at the bar (about 5 min)!!! I have eaten here may times over the years. The food here is always great and definitely more reasonably priced compared to the other restaurants along the waterfront in the Highlands. They are known for their chili and they don't disappoint. It is a must every time I come here. A pitcher of white sangria is also a must. It is the best white sangria I have ever tasted. Came here with friends after a day tanning and relaxing on the island. Cute little spot with plenty of bar space. No frills or fuss; very low key. Made it in time for happy hour which is a good one at that. My girlfriends and I got happy hour wine and a plate of nachos. One of my friends is a vegetarian so we requested the meat come out on the side and they were very accommodating. Bartender was quick, lovely, and attentive. A great way to cap off a nice day at the beach! See you next summer season when I'm back in town! read more

Nice relaxing location to sit outside and have a drink and grab a bite. Food is so so, nothing to write home about. Enjoyed the buffalo chicken sandwich one time, had burger another time and it was eh. Didn't enjoy getting attacked by bees sitting outside but that obviously isn't the restaurants fault. Went on Sunday with the plaintiff to watch the super moon come up. Outside music was good. The burgers and clams were outstanding. Help was a little slow but overall extremely nice. I hope its this good all year round. read more

Stopped by this place on Friday after a group of friends and I were heading home after the beach. Really friendly service, the location is gorgeous, and the food is solid for bar food! It's not the greatest in the world, but the view of the Navesink and the ocean off the deck will surely distract you. I ordered a mix drink too and they really give you a solid amount of booze for your buck. Apparently they also have music at night on the weekends. Apparently others have had fair results at the location. The New England Clam Chowder was good and tasty. I ordered a classic burger medium. The ground beef had a slight tartness (sour) and appeared to be just on edge. If I had ordered it well done I probably could have eaten it. The fries were good and the hot wings were not exceptional. A couple of the larger drumettes could have used more time in the fryer. My two friends had the salad with chicken and had no complaints. It was my first visit but I can get a great burger at a number of other spots and not be concerned about getting sick. read more

I really hate to give this great place a one star rating but I have reached my limits. Fine location, good food and usually a good staff. However.... the last three times I have gone there (usually on a Saturday night) there is a very incompetent bartender that I and several people I know have complained about. She was working at the outside tiki bar this evening at 7:30. Bar is not that big and there were perhaps 15-18 people sitting there. Three of us walked in waited for 12 minutes as she passed by 4-6 times without even looking in our direction at the bar. She had no problem accessing her cell phone and re-visiting the same area of the bar but was totally oblivious to what was going on around her. A good bartender is aware of their serving area and often knows when people walk into the room. As I said........ usually a comment to the other employees or management will solve a problem but this had been going on too long. Again....... for 20 years this has been a great place to go to but someone has to pay attention to what the staff is NOT doing.... No excuse... James is an exceptional bartender but unfortunately he is not there all the time.... read more

Great burgers, onion rings and sweet potato fries, onions are truly caramelized on the burger. Ribs and coleslaw are just what you'd expect. Nachos are great with chili. Wings are killer. Scallops with wasabi were an unexpected surprise in a really good way. Fish tacos are fresh. I wish they had more veggies on the menu, not that I'm a health nut but it would be a nice balance to all the fried food and the salads leave a bit to be desired. My go to spot after sandy hook. The place has amazing views of the water and bridge. I love just about everything on the menu and I've had just about everything. I take that back I prefer their fish and seafood dishes and salads. It's a local spot everyone seems to know each other. The staff is supper friendly, it's a relaxed beach atmosphere. Indoor and outdoor seating everything you want after spending the day in the sun without the hectic crowd of beach goers. Like I said it's a local spot. It can get crowded depending what's going on, but it's a relaxed crowed so you don't feel like you're in a overcrowded bar. read more

A lively pub/restaurant located near the beaches of Sandy Hook and the old twin lighthouse. The cuisine in this part of the world seems to consist of grilled chicken (and other) sandwiches and seafood, and Off the Hook fits right in. The food was enjoyable and the prices were all right. The place is clean and attractive, and the beer list was above average. There is nothing out of the ordinary here, but it is a good spot. read more

Just came down to the hook for some fresh seafood.. That said stay away from this place. Hardly any seafood dishs, and the food here is practically inedible. The waitresses were not attentive at all, kind of ignore you. Do yourself a favor and go elsewere if your looking for seafood. read more

My Gf and I decided to go out for a not so formal dinner and chose to try off the hook. As a local that works at a restaurant in town I expected a whole lot more out of it. Besides the fact I asked for one drink and got another, the appetizers were quite tasty. But that's about all I have good to say. Our salads that we are charged extra for even though we both ordered entrees were terrible. Not a shred of romaine lettuce. And they were thrown on us before we had made a dent in our apps. Once we were done with the sub par rabbit food, our entrees came in good time. But my " suburnt chicken" may have been laying in the sun for days. Appropriate name. The " rice" may have been the worst I've ever had, including the ones you get for a dollar a bag at the grocery store. And for all that, 60 dollars for the 2 of us? Let's get real. My Gf's soup was 7 dollars!!! Very over priced for the plate of dogfood that I tried to stomach but didn't quite make it. I won't ever eat there again. read more
