This was a nice little spot to go to after a long day on Sandy Hook. We recommend the Crab Dip and Soups as appetizers. Also, the Chicken Franchaise (pardon my spelling) was yummy. I just got a salad because the Crab Dip was so hearty and full of crab meat. You can see the water from the outside deck and they have a bar too. It gets crowded towards and after 6pm. Our "go to" place after a day of sun, sand, and swimming at Sandy Hook. We usually start with Tempura Shrimp appetizers, Lobster Bisque , Chili, or Manhattan Clam Chowder, and for an entree I usually have a Hooked Up burger while my wife likes Salmon or Tilapia. The food is delicious, the waitstaff is friendly and efficient, and the food arrives hot and in a timely manner ( I never feel like I'm waiting forever for the next course to arrive, nor do I feel rushed. ) I don't think we've ever had a bad meal here ( or maybe after one of their Pina Colladas I don't mind as much ) but we really look forward to eating here. They also have excellent Sangria ( the best we've ever had), not too sweet or tart, a pitcher is perfect for 3 people. Re: outdoor smoking, the bar is tucked away on the side of the deck, and the deck wraps around the building, so If you take a table in the area that's out of sight of the bar (which is roughly 2/3rds of the deck area) you probably won't have any second hand smoke problems. Top tip: If there's a line for the restrooms, go up the stairs and there's another at the top on the left. They also have live music on certain nights. The local talent pool is of a very high quality ( people stop eating and genuinely applaud ) so a music night might be something you'd want to check out if possible. read more

What a find. Recommended by a salesman in a Red Bank NJ antique and arts store. Would go back and give him a hug if we were not on our way home to South Jersey. Very unassuming place just off Navesink Ave just West of the bridge going in to Sea Bright NJ. Nice indoor bar and small seating area with tables, a larger outdoor bar and seating on the porch overlooking the bridge and ocean. We sat on the porch and were greeted by two waitresses, one who was in training named Lizzy who really doesn't need any training. She took over after the initial introduction. If she is new at it, she will be awesome by the end of the season, which is next week. For such a high end area this place was really a treat. Menu was varied. A great mix of pub food and dinners. It was lunch time so I ordered the ordered the Ahi Tuna BLT wrap. Lizzy asked me how I wanted it cooked so I said medium rare. Lizzy mentioned previously she had worked in the kitchen before waitressing so her knowledge of the back-of-house is invaluable. Anyway, what a great sandwich. Not over cooked so tuna was on the rare side of medium; perfect. Side of mayo mixed with wasabi. Nice little kick. As an afterthought, wish I had asked for some soy sauce. Also great fries. Could not eat everything so I took insides of second wrap and ate the tuna and fixings. Had to leave some fries. Wife got a lunch size Island Chicken with rice. On a diet again. The NE Chowder was great. Hot and full of clams. We split the crab dip which was full of crab but just ok. The grouper sandwich was amazing! Came here last week with a friend and I'd definitely come back again. We sat in the back of the restaurant considering the only seats in the front were not covered and it was HOT! Service was a little slow in the beginning but it wasn't that serious. Just seemed like the waitress had tables in the front and back. Not a huge deal. My friend for a cheeseburger while I got a house salad with a tuna steak which was SO GOOD! And a much bigger steak than I expected for the price. I ordered from Off The Hook every week during the spring. And I have been there 3 times since they reopened. I am impressed by their service and food since there are so many restrictions. I'm starting to realize that most people can't cook for themselves and therefore don't understand what proper food should taste like -- I came here with my father and sister after my crazy aunt and uncle deemed it a fantastic restaurant. My sister and I ordered the pineapple salad which was literally a bed of baby spinach with some thin sliced red onion, pre-shredded/bagged carrots (because god forbid you shred them yourself), and three round pineapple slices that came from a can. The whole thing was then doused is this disgusting over-processed-high-fructose-corn-syrup-bomb of a sauce. If it wasn't for the basket of stale chips and jarred salsa we ordered we would've walked out of there starving. Also ordered two cocktails Very watered down and poorly mixed. Oh and if you're wondering why I ordered a pineapple salad, it's because I've recently become vegan and it was the only thing on the menu that didn't have seafood or dairy in it. My sister ordered it because she wanted something light. Maybe this dish doesn't get ordered a lot and the cooks weren't sure how to prepare it but even if that's the excuse, you should remove it from the menu. A great restaurant would only serve and sell food that makes them proud. I rarely eat out since I tend to be disappointed when I do. Off The Hook! What s Great place! After my friend and I took some sunset pictures off Sandy Hook Beach we decided to try this quaint little place up the hill, over looking the water. It was pretty chilly outside for a Taco Tuesday night, but with the outside heaters right above us, we warmed up quickly! Our waitress was very sweet & very helpful! We tried both clam chowders the red and the white. Tasty but not made from scratch. We then ordered two platters of tacos, chicken and Fish! Served with rice and/ or roasted potatoes- these were very very good!! I alone would go back for the soft tacos!! We also enjoyed cold tap beer! Very crisp and delicious!! They had a bingo game going on between the outside bar and inside bar. My friend & I laughed because it isn't your typical bingo lol was a great end to our evening! We will be back! Off the hook has a great view and a nice menu. We have been here before and enjoyed ourselves but now after trip number three it's time to review. During our most recent visit we sat at the outdoor bar area. Service was quick and friendly. The husband enjoyed the view of the ocean and nearby Gateway National Park, he also correctly noted that this would be an awesome spot to watch a storm roll in. When it came time to order food he had the Flounder Sandwich $10 and I had the Garlic Shrimp App $12. Mine was awesome! The shrimp and scallops were in a buttery garlic sauce that was perfect and came with 2 pieces of garlic bread. His was a large flounder fillet on a hoagie roll and fries. He didn't like all the bread but that didn't stop him from eating it anyway. The crowd was friendly and it wasn't as crowded as we thought when we first passed by. The live entertainment was a nice touch. The husband and I both said we should remember to come here more often, and we will! read more

....continuing our MLK day bar tour.... Toot, Chap and I made this our 2nd stop of the day. A good local bar, the barkeeps are super friendly and they had Sam Adams seasonal beer on tap. The place does have a good view of the new bridge and it is a beauty, very modern with gravceful curves and angles, I mean it, I'm not talking about a woman here! As my friend Jilly said the Twin Lights lighthouse is up above the bar high up on the hillside, it is called the Highlands for a reason. After a while it was just the three of us at the bar and the barkeep had to keep running to the outside bar as he was the only barkeep on duty. The outside bar, where you can smoke (it's "enclosed" during the winter with thick plastic sheeting) was pretty full but none of us are smokers (at least not cigs), and though it was mild for January in NJ (around 48 degrees!) we didn't like the idea of sitting in the cold to inhale 2nd hand smoke. ....so we headed off still in search of that MLK partying crowd..... read more

Location is nice, right before sandy hook and near the water. Seating options are good, either outside or inside. Food, it depends on what you order. Lobster roll was good but shrimp scampi stinks. I wouldn't even call it shrimp scampi, I'd call it shrimp with soupy water and pasta. Coleslaw was warm, but fries are good. Service is good, immediately seated and given our drinks within a short time. Live music was nice too. read more

As other reviewers wrote, the food is nothing great. Only real attraction is it's convenient location right by the beaches of Sandy Hook and Atlantic Highlands. Service is ok, although I do notice some waitresses are rude as other reviewers also mentioned. I'd only return if the other restaurants are over crowded and I can get a table here easily. read more

Perhaps it's because I'm too nice or just really optimistic, but I typically never give a one star review on yelp unless a restaurant is a repeat offender of offering up the heinous. In good conscious I cannot elevate this place's rating above a one star and the kindest thing I can really say about it as an establishment is that I wouldn't give it a 0 star if I could. When I first arrived here I was immediately assaulted with a live band in the outdoor patio area, blaring their crappy music and making it impossible to have a conversation without screaming at the top of your lungs while mere centimeter's from the next person's ear. To make matters worse, the bartenders weren't mindful at all of the people packed onto the patio and only paid attention to customers sitting at the bar. It took my party damn near 10 minutes to get a bucket of beer ordered, and then another 10 minutes for some chicken wings. The whole while this is going on, they have a misting system, which is fine for the unbearably hot days, but it was going non-stop and blasting at us due to the wind. The water was at least an inch deep on the floor, and honestly, the weather wasn't hot enough for it be warranted, so it was mostly just exceedingly annoying. They could have at least had it on a timer. When the wings showed up they were tiny and the sauce tasted really crappy and was poorly slopped on as an afterthought. We eventually went inside to have dinner where I ordered a vodka club to drink and an artisan flatbread pizza. Our waitress was nice but not very attentive to us. My drink was watered down and weak by a pathetic amount, and certainly not worth the cost. When my flatbread pizza arrived, I dug in, not expecting what I got because honestly, how hard is it to truly and utterly mess up a pizza? Welp, you'd have to ask Off the Hook about that because they managed to turn my pizza into a meal with the flavor profile of an exceptionally dry cardboard box. It was like someone found the most tasteless dough they could, sucked the flavor out of cheese and chicken, and tossed it on there. The sauce was pretty much non-existant as well.. even as a person who likes scanty sauce on their pies, this was just ridiculous. Even worse, despite the fact that I literally only had a nibble of my pizza before pushing it away, the waitress didn't a) ask if I liked it/what was wrong, and b) when I told her, didn't even offer an apology let alone an offer to comp it or get me something else. Luckily the rest of my party pitched in and let me have bits of their food, mostly fried fish, which actually was tasty, but my opinion is totally soured. How do you advertise your "artisan" pizzas the way they did and then give paying customers the shit I was served? Ridiculous. I was relieved to go and after languishing in the fridge for a few days, my "leftovers" went into the bin. Honestly, I feel awful for hating this place because my father-in-law wanted us to love it so much. I think my in-laws all had a great time but I'd never, ever return here of my own volition. read more
