They have the best sandwiches, chili, salad, grilled plates- coffee, drinks-- just stay awhile you will get hungry again. They have indoor, outdoor, and even can host a private party upstairs if you know the manager. When I worked at NY Fast Ferry we went here for our Christmas Party for Italian themed dinner. we got seated fairly quickly which was nice, but dont expect them to have social distancing when it comes to seating, or for the staff to wear their masks (half of them had their masks only on their nose). Anyways, once we got seated the server was quick to bring the waters, take our orders and bring out the oysters, but it took them forever to bring our meals. The table next to us got seated after us and their food came out before us. The oysters were not cleaned properly so i could taste the sand in them and the food itself was very bland. To top it off, their card machine "wasnt working" so they took my card info down which I honestly thought was a bit sketch.. Two best things about this place were beer and raw clams. Everything else was just a letdown. Again, I tried to venture out the area for some good seafood and decided to try out Off The Hook since it was right off the bridge on the Highlands side. I was kind of disappointed with their appetizers. Voodoo Shrimp and Scallops ($14) were well seasoned, but they were doused in creamy sauce. Very sloppy. Pan-seared Ahi Tuna ($12) was overcooked when we ordered it medium rare and also salty with spices. Lobster Bisque ($8) was just bland. On the other hand, a dollar raw clams were super fresh and sweet, but that was not enough for me to make another visit. Perhaps my expectation was too high since I've read previous reviews posted a few days earlier, and they seemed happy with their food. We are always so satisfied with this restaurant. This is one of our favorites with a beautiful view. When I'm in the mood for a tasty scallop dish and fresh seafood. The Lobster bisque is outstanding. Always with lots of lobster pieces. The sizzling scallop dish on the appetizer section is so good and fresh. The spinach with the fresh lemon on the side and the dollop of the sauce on each scallop so perfectly placed. Its such a wonderful bite. The scallop is always seared perfectly. The fresh grouper fingers is always so good and tasty the sauce again is a great accompaniment to this dish. Light and fresh. The lobster stuffed avocado is awesome a must try.. Love this place. Enjoyed dozen clams on half-shell from raw bar, House Classic Burger properly cooked as ordered, and a fine martini followed by a pint of delightful Layback Pale Ale from Last Wave in Pt Pleasant. Ocean view always brings a smile. Simple and unpretentious. Always make it a point to come here when in the area. OMG, the flies!!!! They are everywhere: bathroom, all over tables, all over food. Outside, on the porch, the place is so dirty - there is food on the floor under almost every table even empty ones that no one bothers to cleanup which is probably why there are so many flies. The service was terrible. The server never showed up at our table to give refills of soda - we had to keep waving her down. Same thing with the check - we tried to wave our waiter down multiple times but failed. After about 20 minutes we lost patience and went to the front desk to ask for the check. Waited 20 minutes and waiter again didn't come to pick it up so we again went to the front desk to give them the receipt and credit card. Server was terrible!!! She was attending to all the tables but ours and she looked very tired and sweaty. The music, once that started, was really loud to the point where we couldn't speak with each other because we couldn't hear what anyone was saying. The food was OK, it wasn't great and it wasn't terrible. We ordered the ahi tuna sandwich, the chicken bruschetta and some chicken fingers for the kids. I think the fries were not that great but the rest of the food was pretty good. If it weren't for the flies everywhere and us having to wave them off constantly, the incredibly loud music and the service being terrible it could have been a good experience. Unfortunately, we are not local to the area so we wouldn't be returning back but I don't think based on the problems with this place we would come back anyway. read more

One of the most uncomfortable experiences I've ever had was eating at this restaurant with my family. The server was unfriendly ( no smile, Hello, or welcome) and paid no attention to our table until having to wave her down. When she finally approached our table I asked for a refresher on my drink and she did once she went to her other table next and took care of them first. She got them to go plates and a beautiful smile and came back over 10 minutes later. Not sure with the deal was but as a black woman I most definitely felt unwelcome at this place and most definitely won't have to worry about me visiting here again. Victoria, the inside barmaid told me that they get a good crowd for football games during the off-season, of course that is after Labor Day. Most of the five indoor television sets were set to football. In the outdoor bar James, the barkeep, was very informative as to their menu. The outdoor bar also had five TV sets, yes, all tuned to you know the answer. Took friends from Maine last weekend and had a great lunch. The weather was beautiful, with a nice breeze and the place was not too crowded. Great view of the new bridge, which is under construction. Carol had the Lobster Bisque and said it was good, but a little salty. Glenn had a Cheese steak sandwich which looked really good as well. the fries were also good. We enjoyed ourselves too much because when we left to go to Sandy Hook they were turning away cars so we went to Ocean Grove and Asbury Park. Just had a fantastic Dinning experience with two other couples. We started with Tuna bites, Clams and Scallops. Couldn't of been fresher. For my entree I got the three fish pasta. The pasta was cooked to perfection and the fish was plentiful. Truly. Service was great, spot on. She was very helpful guiding us through the menu. Which was on our phones! I can't say a bad thing about out experience at Off the Hook. We got a fantastic table for 6 of us overlooking the bay and ocean. The hostess and wait staff were all friendly and super obliging. Smiles all around that's what the consensus was from my group of friends. Somebody in management here is very good at hiring and training plus based on the workers this must be a good place for food service people to work. The bartenders are spot on! I sampled several of the specialty drinks like "Purple Punch" and "Mermaid Water" which were both tasty and potent. Out meals came out at the same time all hot and ready. Timing from the kitchen was fabulous. I had the grouper and the Mrs had the Mahi not were outstanding. Another friend had the ribeye and she said it was just perfect. If you have an opportunity to visit this place you'd better jump on it while the weather is cooperative. I highly recommend this place for the food, the great staff, and awesome view. read more

They have a large bar but, as we are generally driving a ways after our meal, we usually opt for no alcohol. The food was really good and definitely hit the spot. The only issue we had was that they forgot to bring out one of our appetizers and forgot one person's entree. Stopped in here after a quick afternoon trip to the beach. It was probably around 7pm on a Saturday. The host told us it would be about an hour wait for outdoor seating. So we were ready to leave and then noticed there was a bar inside. We asked if bar seating inside would be an option. Luckily it was. It was strange that this wasn't suggested after we said we wouldn't wait the hour considering there were several people seated at the bar having drinks while waiting for their table. The inside bar was just fine. There were TVs inside playing baseball. Outside was a live band but you couldn't hear them from inside unless the door opened as servers were going in and out. We each had a draft beer, nothing crazy. We ordered the tuna bites, steamers, and lobster roll with onion rings. The tuna bites and steamers came out first. I had heard rave reviews about the tuna bites and they did not dissappoint. I was a big fan. The steamers were just ok. Not my favorite. And then, it took about an hour for the lobster roll and onion rings to come out. Another couple sat down after us, ordered their drinks, had a second round, had dinner, paid their tab and left before we even received ours. Not sure if the meal was never put in or what but no one made a point to acknowledge that the wait time was ridiculous. And on top of that, the onion rings were so burnt that I didn't even eat them. Off the Hook has a nice menu that makes it hard to choose. Ours was a party of four and three of us went with the blackened mahi mahi tacos. I love fish tacos, and while these were good, there was nothing spectacular about them. I think the cajun spices just clashed with the cilantro dressing. The fourth person ordered a grouper sandwich which looked very good and was quite large. All of our meals came with an order of fries so you will not leave hungry. Things I didn't like were being seated right by the door so was a little chilly everytime the door opened, and also I found the service rather slow, and the restaurant did not seem super busy. Our waitress was just mediocre. I couldn't tell you her name as she never told us. Also one of those who comes by to take your plates away even though you're not done. This is one of the best restaurants on the Jersey Shore. If you're spending the day at Sandy Hook, you must have lunch or dinner at OTH. The chef is on a completely different level; look for tuna dishes or the lobster stuffed avocado. WOW. I like to order an app like the Tuna Trio with a Cape May Coastal Evacuation (on tap) for lunch. The salads are great. I don't order salads out a lot but I do at OTH. They have a fun game night on Tuesdays (bingo, name that tune) and karaoke on Wednesdays. Lots of great live music too! We had a blast. Bahrs was disappointingly rude so we came here as a last resort and it did not disappoint. The music and entertainment was phenomenal. I wish I knew the name so that I could recommend them in this review. It was two men. They played classics and took our request for Brown Eyed Girl. Drinks were great. Service was great. Great location. The view of the ocean is a little blocked but, as much as I love a view, I prefer their customer service to the rudeness of other another local restaurant. Food was good. The clam chowder could use some more cream. The sun burned chicken should be their claim to fame because it was outstanding. Fish tacos were just okay. I love this place! Such a nice scenery and vibes. They have live music playing and it usually gets busy but you can always go to the bar and kill time. The island chicken is so good and I always get it with a side of rice, very flavorful. On Sunday's you can get a pitcher of sangria for $15 which is my absolute favorite thing to get here. Friendly service and great food, not too bad price wise either (considering the area). I want to give a MAJOR shoutout to our server, Anna, for not only bringing our table one, but two huge dishes of pickles when she saw we were running low! (We had originally asked for a few on the side- our group are quite the pickle-lovers). Also had the patience of a saint when it came to splitting our bill down between the couples.
