Navesink is a fish market with a BYOB restaurant in the back. The parking lot is large is location easy to visit. The decor is cozy and they serve nice crusty bread at the tables. We were a party of 6 and had a couple carafes of water on the table when we were seated. Menu prices are fair. Portions aren't large, but generally adequate if you eat some apps and bread with your meal. All fish is very fresh and makes it a great experience if you're craving fish. This place being a fish market, that have plenty of fish choices on the menu and everything was delicious. Shrimp, halibut, swordfish, scallops. My favorite were the raw clams. Super fresh and very affordably priced! You can even choose between littleneck and top neck. Bathrooms in the back don't have the cleanest feel to them. They're also used as stockpiles for cleaning supplies. There were even two ladders in the men's room along with a ton of other stuff. Yes, there's a toilet and sink so you can manage. A hidden restaurant that is nestled between a Goodwill and Liquor store was not on my radar until a friend invited me to dinner. The food was fresh and gave me old school nostalgia vibes. The little fish store in the front also had baskets of vegetables for sale. I will probably swing back to pick up fish to bring home and cook. The place was definitely family run and not that busy on a Sunday evening. Total of 3 tables. The service was pleasant and the ambiance gave Midwest or old fashioned Florida boonies. The basket of bread was perfect. The Chilean sea bass with a tomato oyster sauce was good, sided with a baked potato and squash. Navesink Fishery is a gem!!! Right in the middle of a strip mall is a really top shelf establishment serving fresh hot mega outrageous food. The dining area is a bit tight but it's tasteful and perfectly lit. There are no reservations but they have a really comfy living room up front to chill if you have to wait for a table. The entire staff are just great! Everyone is happy and helpful like going to visit family or a friend's house for dinner. We started with a crab cake appetizer that was top shelf and served with a slightly spicy fresh salsa and mixed greens plus a house made tartar sauce that was made with fresh herbs. They don't miss a tick here. Both entrees were served hot and fresh at the exact same time. Somebody runs an excellent kitchen here! I had halibut and my Mrs. Has shrimp scampi and both dishes were amazing. I was amazed how awesome the green beans were prepared and we both had herbed rice that was cooked to perfection. If you are reading this don't think twice go have dinner here and see for yourself. Met with some longtime Friends. The waitress was excellent. The food was also very good. The owner of the place was absolutely horrible. We asked waitress to spilt the bill or give us three separate check. The manager gave one bill and told us to break it up. The waitress redid the bill and gave it to us. The manager owner of the place came to the table and why didnt we ask for separate checks to begin with. I told him we did and walked away saying don't bother to come back I told no problem we will never be back and we will tell our families and friends.The waitress was very suite but this owner is not worth the aggravation. read more

I had a delicious experience with friends at The Navasink Fishery at the Jersey shore.. The front of this shop is a fish shop selling fresh local fish of all kind. It also sells local produce. The back of the shop is a casual, family restaurant with an extensive fresh fish and seafood menu. All 3 of us ordered the sea scallops with a baked potato and string beans. 2 of us started with a a tasty shrimp cocktail and my other friend got an order of clams. Absolutely DIVINE! It's a BYOB so we had a couple bottles of white wine with us. We ended our epic meal with a slice of key lime pie. We split a piece, but we really should have ordered a piece each. Hidden gem in a strip mall. Have walked by it before and never knew it was a restaurant. Came towards the end of the night and there was no wait. Service was prompt. The decor was quaint but could use a little lift (add candles to table, paint ceiling tiles, freshen up walls by adding more eclectic frames and pics to existing). So much potential! The tablecloths and paper were clean and floor well maintained. As for the food, great selection of fish and food was cooked really well. However, the broiled combo plate was underseasoned so my tender scallops were looking for a little butter or garlic. The homemade tartar sauce that I dabbed on my fish was simply amazing. The seafood with penne with brandy wine sauce was nice but sauce was watery and would have been wonderful if thickened. Bread served with meal was warm and nice. It was our wedding anniversary and we decided to give this place a try based on reading the reviews. We were immediately seated after arriving. There were a couple of tables occupied when we got there. At the front of the restaurant is the deli, where you can buy any fish you want. However, the back is a whole other world, as it is a dimly-lit room with flowers on some of the tables and an overall romantic vibe. Lamps dangle from the ceiling and framed paintings adorn the walls. We shared an arugula salad tossed in vinaigrette with tomatoes, beets, pecans and blue cheese. We thought that this was delicious and juicy. Hubs loved the salad and thought that it was a great mix. Daughter ordered Pan Seared Tuna with wasabi sauce and pickled ginger. She also got a side of rice and string beans , as well. She loved it and thought it was delicious. She said that it was the thickest tuna she ever had and she loved every bit of it. The tuna was nice and raw in the middle but it was a little sinewy. It wasn't enough to deter her. LOL. I had the Linguini with white clam sauce. Hubs and I thought that his was delicious. The entree is served with whole little neck clams and they were nice and large. Hubs and I were fighting to finish it. LOL. Lastly, Hubs ordered Seafood Creole on Herbed Rice. The seafood consisted of shrimp, scallop and lobster meat. He thought the creole was ok, but it could use a little hot sauce. It was definitely not as spicy as other regular cajun restaurants serve it. He didn't really care for it but we got it packed to go. We didn't realize that we left it behind until we got home. Considering the amount of money we spent for dinner, I'm disappointed that they didn't come after us that we forgot our leftovers. It's not like we dined and dashed out of there. We took our time leaving the restaurant and got into the car. Service was ok. We barely saw our server except to take our order and give us the bill. Glad we got to try this place but if I was going to spend that amount of money for dinner, I'd expect better service. read more

Well it turns out that Navesink Fishery is great for other food, too! Upon the recommendation of our attentive waiter, I ordered the Crusted Halibut Dijonnaise. It was fantastic. In fact, it was so good that my sister, who LOVES lobster, declared that although her lobster was excellent, she preferred my halibut. We finally made it here after going past Navesink Fishery for so many years. We arrived almost past the lunch time window but the owner graciously sat us. The market and restaurant is dated and has a simple ambiance. We had: Corn and crab chowder Fried shrimp platter Flounder sandwich platter The French fries are sprinkled with dill- delicious. My family had a last minute idea to hit Sandy Hook for the sunset and needed a good spot for dinner and this is where Yelp led us. File under 'Don't Judge a Book...' because it's located in a (typical) run-of-the-mill (down-the-shore) shopping center (I've passed countless times back in the day) and from the outside it didn't look like much. Walk in, pass the store/market portion (and friendly squad of workers behind the counter) and head into the cozy back restaurant part. And proceeded to be blown away. Linguine with clams. Bronzino. (My kids were completely fascinated with the eye sockets and mouth/teeth on this fish.) Rainbow trout. Swordfish. Good portions. Incredibly flavorful and well-seasoned and properly cooked all around. (Even the complimentary bread - two huge portions, no less - was better than you'd expect it to be.) Pricing was legit, the staff were friendly. If I had to rant at all it might be that the food did seem to take a wee bit too long to come out. (But that might have to do with our stomach pangs making us a wee bit too impatient.) We ordered the fried shrimp platters, the shrimp were not butterflied the backs were sliced down and they were coated in a differant type batter kinda of like a cornmeal, they had no flavor at all. Well, where do I start. As many reviewers elucidated, this unassuming gem of a restaurant is also a fresh seafood market. My wife was in the mood for seafood for our anniversary and wanted to try something new. Reviews on several platforms seem to be in agreement that Navesink Fishery would be worthy of visit. Upon entry, we noticed there were few tables remaining. Lucky for us, we were able to be seated right away. The dining area in the back of the seafood market was kind of drab and in need of restaurant make over. That was my first impression. My second observation was the entire dining room was filled with old farts like us. I doubt there anyone under sixty years of age. I guess wisdom and knowledge come with old age as these diners know good food. Speculating, the clientele must be locals that know where the "good taste" is being served and the service is expedient and caring. I debated giving Navesink Fishery 4 stars, knocking off one star for the lack of ambiance. However, the quality, freshness, portion size and menu variety make up for that. I can't say the prices were inexpensive but were very fair and competitive for the menu items. Our combination seafood entrees and mussel appetizer were prepared to perfection and were served quickly. Add the the stellar value is the BYOB option. If you are thinking about just the waterfront location, that's ok but honesty, value and quality and freshness served at the Navesink Fishery can't be beat! read more

We went here again last evening and their fresh fish dishes really are FRESH and cooked to perfection! It's a simple, no fuss casual dining. Love that their veggies are steamed but could probably be steamed less, so more Al dente & creative with their veggies. All in all it's probably one of the best fresh seafood restaurants in Monmouth County! Our server Ashley was attentive, accommodating, efficient and very friendly. A five star+ restaurant. Unassuming strip mall location and decor but delicious fresh seafood. I had three courses and all three were 10 out of 10. I started with the oyster soup that is made to order and as I was eating it I told my wife I would come back just for it. I wish I took a picture as it was loaded with oysters. Then my scallops arrived and they were pan seared perfectly with a healthy amount of eight mid to large scallops. Lastly the key lime pie dessert could have fed four and was delicious. We ordered New England clam chowder and steamed Little neck clams in broth and calamari. The chowder was great as were the clams. The calamari was just ok. I called ahead for a takeout order and I was very impressed at how good of a job they are doing with the social distancing and the offerings they had.; some market items such as produce and also toilet paper rolls.. great idea and fair prices .
