The staff are kind and timely. The food came out fast, but keep in mind that we went to breakfast/lunch during non-peak times. For breakfast, we showed up around 8am and for lunch we went around noon on a Saturday in April. This also helped with the noise level and the ambiance. It was nice and quiet for use because it wasn't busy. For breakfast we got Otto's Favorite and the breakfast burrito. Both were very good. Eggs were fluffy and the pork sausages were delicious!! The breakfast burrito was cooked perfectly and the outside was crisped to perfection. For lunch we got the Avo-Chicken melt and the Classic Pub sub fried onions. They were also equally delicious. The fries that come with both dishes are the perfect amount of crunch and pillowy potato. And the burger was cooked to perfection and pair with a very nice sauce. Overall, a great experience and would go again!

I like a light breakfast, so I got the avocado toast, which came with two poached eggs, tomato slices and arugula. It was more than enough, and with a little sprinkle of hot sauce, it was great. The side of potatoes that I ordered really hit the spot, though. The breakfast potatoes are more like steak fries: perfectly brown and crispy on the outside, and soft and mealy on the inside. The service was great and quick. They do that thing here where the servers don't write down your order, and instead they just listen to you and you hope they get it right. But my server got it right, so maybe they know what they're doing here at Otto's Restaurant at The Osthoff Resort.

So I mean it when I say this is the best coffee shop I've ever been to. It quaint, and comfortable. I especially love getting a coffee and sitting by the fireside. Awakening has an array of espresso beverages and coffee as well as smoothies and a few baked items. My dining companion and I both opted for one of their seasonal specialty lattes. They have milk alternatives, so we were both able to get our desired almond milk for our lattes. Their espresso is pitch perfect. I can not overstate this. Seriously, one of the best lattes I have had the pleasure of consuming in the entire state of Wisconsin right here in little ol' Kohler. That alone made the drive from Milwaukee worth it. Their bites are limited to bakery sweet treats. I'm not much for sweet in the morning but was pleased to find that the grocery store where Awakening is situated has lovely savory breakfast options. As I mentioned, they are situated inside a grocery store but don't let that deter you. The grocery store itself is charming and they have a lovely dining area in the middle of the store where you can enjoy your coffee and bites. Our barista was absolutely lovely. They were the one who clued us in on the delicious breakfast bites that we could get at the adjacent deli in addition to serving up such a delicious latte. Get to it!

Off the rails has become a morning ritual for me. We are here in Elkhart Lake for a month. I've been there everyday since our arrival except Wednesday because sadly they are not open. The staff actually now knows me by first name and has my coffee ready. The breakfast is outside. One day I even came in for a second time for lunch and had a pastrami sandwich which was delicious. I can't recommend this place enough. If you haven't had Off The Rails you are derailed! read more

Great food. We go here nearly every stay at the Osthoff Resort. The cinnamon rolls are so good. The egg cups with bacon (etc.) are also super amazing! This is a recommend spot for whenever you're near. read more

And the bar countertop is also still dirty, we have been there for 15 minutes so far. We sat and eventually realized we needed to order our food at the cash register and tell them what table we were sitting at. All the employees were lovely but not Observant at all. That we have been staring at them and standing around... When we ordered and eventually given our food, There were a couple mishaps with our food, but that's okay because mistakes happen and we're not the type of people who get upset over every little thing. The employees fixed everything. The reason for only 4 stars is because we were there for 1 hour from start to finish, and ONLY right before we left, did they start cleaning any of the tables or counter. They only cleaned our table because we asked. There was a massive pile of dirty dishes on the back counter, and only then did they start cleaning them up. I neglected to take pics of the pile of dirty dishes. To be fair, all the employees were busy the entire time, they weren't being lazy, they always had something to do. BUT cleaning tables and dishes need to be a priority especially during the busy hours. I urge and hope the owner please get a designated dishwasher and table cleaner especially during the busy hours. No one wants to sit at a dirty table with food scraps and sauce smears after someone has left. And also, please be more observant to confused customers who are standing around not sure what to do. A simple, "can I help you" would have really helped, and not made us feel ignored when we were confused. Also, a sign would help, like, "seat yourselves and order at the counter". Because the employees are also wait staff, and deliver food to the tables. It was just so confusing. Hope this helps. But otherwise, the employees were quite lovely when they did pay attention to you, and food is always good. Just be prepared to wait awhile for food.
