The food at Otto's is great!! We were standing at the hostess stand for a while before someone told us the trick of stepping into the door to trigger the bell to notify them that someone is here (thank you to the lady who told us!), so that was an unexpected way to get seated but once we sat down, everything was great. The staff are kind and timely. The food came out fast, but keep in mind that we went to breakfast/lunch during non-peak times. For breakfast, we showed up around 8am and for lunch we went around noon on a Saturday in April. This also helped with the noise level and the ambiance. It was nice and quiet for use because it wasn't busy. For breakfast we got Otto's Favorite and the breakfast burrito. Both were very good. Eggs were fluffy and the pork sausages were delicious!! The breakfast burrito was cooked perfectly and the outside was crisped to perfection. For lunch we got the Avo-Chicken melt and the Classic Pub sub fried onions. They were also equally delicious. The fries that come with both dishes are the perfect amount of crunch and pillowy potato. And the burger was cooked to perfection and pair with a very nice sauce. I visited for breakfast, and my experience was excellent. Otto's offers your typical American breakfast foods -- biscuits and gravy, pancakes, egg dishes, etc. -- and excellent coffee. I like a light breakfast, so I got the avocado toast, which came with two poached eggs, tomato slices and arugula. It was more than enough, and with a little sprinkle of hot sauce, it was great. The side of potatoes that I ordered really hit the spot, though. The breakfast potatoes are more like steak fries: perfectly brown and crispy on the outside, and soft and mealy on the inside. The service was great and quick. They do that thing here where the servers don't write down your order, and instead they just listen to you and you hope they get it right. Stopped in for lunch. Despite being very short staffed they did a great job and were quite attentive. Luckily they were not busy while we were they too. Gavin, our server, had just been promoted to server when none of the servers showed up. He did a great job too! I was able to enjoy a very nice lunch with several of my dearest friends. Shame on Otto's. Food is fair. What you expect for a casual hotel spot. Think pizza, chicken fingers, frozen burgers.. hardly fine dining. It is overpriced and mediocre. Sadly, my last experience was disappointing. We had made a reservation earlier in the week for a party of 12 people. I booked 6 through OpenTable and expanded directly w the restaurant. I had to provide a credit card to book. Yesterday, my Uncle passed away. Unexpectedly. We have been focused on him and the hospital, ER, family and then today a funeral home and the begining of paperwork. Earlier in the day I tried to cancel the reservation on OpenTable - was instructed to call to cancel. I called a bit later and just indicated I needed to cancel. Did not intend to linger. 30 minutes later I received a text notification that I had a $120 charge on my credit card from Otto's. I called and the restaurant, and the staff told me they were instructed to enforce their cancellation policy. I was told to call the manager Brittnay on her cell phone to dispute. When I called I was upset - it's a lot of money and Brittnay didn't have empathy for are troublesome circumstance. Brittnay told me she was indeed the person who could reverse the charge, but went on to share with me an elementary overview of why Otto's had a policy -- and the rules of the cancellation policy. She then shared with me that 2.5 hours was difficult for her restaurant attached to the hotel. Under typical circumstances, we probably just would have gone to this mediocre spot to avoid this fee. But, today we just can't. Brittnay also asked me if I could share with her the obituary. In any case - I've since disputed with my Credit card. I canceled this reservation in advance for, this hotel spot that is serving chicken fingers, pizza, frozen burgers, overcooked noodles and Iceberg lettuce.. Perhaps they brought in one additional server and bus boy for our party. I suspect they could send any persons home early if needed. And perhaps charged me $30 if they needed to? Last, my Uncle was a wonderful man. He helped in some ways to fill my Father's shoes when my own Dad died of a heart attack unexpectedly - he helped me and my 3 younger brothers when we were little. Popular restaurant at the Osthoff resort with limited outdoor seating. We arrived for a late breakfast and secured the last outside table. Tables are socially distanced due to COVID 19 restrictions. The staff was friendly and efficient. We ordered the avocado BLT and breakfast burrito. Both were served with a small bowl of fruit - red grapes and a strawberry. The BLT consisted of an English muffin with smashed avocado topped with lettuce, tomato and crisp bacon. Both muffin halves were served open face. It was excellent. We arrived at 11am for Sunday Brunch, knowing we were on the later side; I asked the waitress if they would be replenishing the food. The waitress confirmed. We initially went up and they were out of scrambled eggs, potatoes, bacon, bread, yogurt parfaits, and there were 4 biscuits, and 5 Sausage patties. 40 minutes later, only the scrambled eggs (which were disgusting) were replenished, so I asked again and also asked for drinks (because she has not asked, even tho there were 2 servers and only 9 tables). The waitress said she already knew and they were taking care of it, 5 minutes later someone from the kitchen came out to check what they were out. So for $17.95 a person, the three of us barely got a plate full of sub par to terrible good and a waitress that was less than helpful. Went here for dinner with a larger group. 9 people in all. Firstly, the service was absolutely fantastic. Our server (I'm so sorry I just cannot recall the name. We had all had some drinks.) was a breath of fresh air. She was young and under 21 since she can't drink (we had asked her opinion on a drink. That's how we found out she's under 21.) and seeing the service she provided at that age was truly fantastic. For quite some time now, I have felt very bad for the younger generation in this country. Service at restaurants over all is sub par (If you are in you are at least in your mid thirties and have travelled internationally, you know exactly what I mean.) The funny/sad thing is that a "good" tip is expected regardless of service provided. While I am not shy of not tipping if the service is really poor, the server here absolutely deserved not just a good tip but a few words of encouragement. She will really go a long way in life regardless of what her career is going to be in. The cheese curd fries were out of this world. Most of the table hadn't tried these before and I thought they were some of the better ones I've tried. I had the sliders which were fantastic. Everyone enjoyed their meal and we had some leftovers. Overall, fantastic place. From reading some other reviews, I can see why some diners were a little bummed out in terms of service and the delay in food. We went fairly late so it wasn't crowded but still there were only 3 servers including ours who were taking care of just about everything; orders, serving, closing out for the night, etc. I suspect if we had gone in earlier, we may have experienced some delays too but I want to think if the diners were served by the same server that took care of us, their reviews would have been different. If you want to order the 6oz salmon entree - DON'T. You get very little for the $22 they charge for this meal. I spoke with the "manager" and she basically said this is what you get we are not going to accommodate you any further. The plate consisted of the smallest salmon I have ever eaten, a small spoonful of rice and 5 or 6 small sticks of asparagus. Not to mention we were the first ones there shortly after 4pm. It took them almost a half hour to get our meal! Other people that came after us got thier appetizers before our table received our food! Our server must have been new because she knew nothing regarding the menu items we asked about. The other person I ate with got a HUGE portions for what she ordered. The salmon was smaller than the palm of my hand, and didn't look fresh. Very disgusted with this place - as I have NEVER received such a small portion of food for what I paid for. We dined at Otto's Restaurant at the Osthoff with a group of 23 of us. There was a limited menu available, which is fine for a group our size however the food was just terrible and took forever. we had reservations at 7pm we didn't receive our meal until 845pm. The Marinara sauce was not at all homemade and straight out of a can, pasta not even strained properly making the sauce watery, the hangar steak wad not a hangar steak at all, the Mashed Potatoes were legit powdered Potatoes, the shrimp was way over cooked and very salty, the pastas were cold, the salmon was also very over seasoned and salty. When told to the waitress all that was said was ill tell the cooks nothing at all was done to correct the issues. I have worked in restaurants and ran some very successful establishments. I never complain, but what we were served and how we were served was just unacceptable for what we got and what we paid. I expect a lot more coming from a prestigious resort like the Osthoff. The property itself is beautiful, but hospitality and your food and beverage program needs a lot of work. It kills me to see the F&B department feel that it's ok to serve what they serve. I was very disappointed with this place considering it is at such a nice resort. I had just a simple turkey wrap but you could tell there was just no love or ingenuity whatsoever put into it. It was as plain and bland as it could possibly be. It was simply turkey, lettuce, tomato and avocado rolled into a plain, cold tortilla shell. Absolutely no seasoning whatsoever, no sauce or mayo or anything! Season the food, throw in an aioli sauce of some kind, slap it on the grill once rolled and throw a little cook on the tortilla and now you actually have a wrap worth $11... When I see food like this, to me the person cooking has no interest in doing so is what it says to me. They need to step it up to match how nice the facility is overall. read more

I'm gonna have to add to the chorus of "Meh's" here. We opted for lunch here before shopping at the Christmas Market, and it was decidedly mediocre. There was a short wait for a table (it's a pretty small joint), which was fine, and once seated our order was taken promptly. However, despite it being the tail end of the lunch rush -- the restaurant was emptying around us, with no new diners arriving -- our food took a loooong time to arrive. And we didn't order anything complicated, just a burger, salad, sandwich, etc. My chicken sandwich was pretty bland, with no evidence of the pesto mayo listed on the menu, and the bottom bun was super soggy, which really aggravates me. I ended up removing the top bun (which was glued onto the sandwich by melted cheese) and eating the darn thing with a knife and fork. Plus it had the de rigueur sad fruit cup, which was, well, pretty lame. Our server, despite making a show of being friendly and helpful, disappeared when it came time to get the check, then brought a single check for the four of us. When we asked to have it split, she eventually came back with it split incorrectly, at which point we were ready to just pay up and leave...but of course, despite being only one of two occupied tables remaining in the (tiny) restaurant, the waitress had disappeared again, which was very frustrating. For a hotel restaurant, the prices were not crazy, but it still wasn't worth it for the food that we got. I wouldn't eat here again, nor would I suggest anyone else do so. read more

This was my second visit. To date, I have eaten 3 breakfasts and 1 dinner here. Last year, I experienced bad french toast and two moldy raspberries, burnt tasting coffee. I recall the pasta dish I had was good. All their sandwiches are meat, a disappointment. Not even a grilled cheese or portabella mushroom. Nothing at the Osthoff is vegan. You have to be pushy about being vegetarian. Guess modern life hasn't reached Elkhart Lake yet. This time, I had the Otto's omelet. Eggs, scallions, onion, tomato, spinach, mushrooms, and cheddar cheese. Overall, pretty good. However, the accompanying potatoes were soaked in oil. Both boyfriend and I had plates coated in oil by the end. I couldn't finish my potatoes, I felt as though they were undercooked and still hard, not crispy on the outside and soft on the inside like a good potato would be. However, at $28 for two breakfasts and 2 juices, I suppose I can't complain too much. Moral of the story? If you are staying at the Osthoff, enjoy the convenience of a breakfast at Otto's. Our experience was nothing less than mediocre. My husband and I came for our "mini-moon" as we recently got married and the tabloids said this was a "must have" in Elkhart Lake, WI. Unfortunately, this was not the case for us. Maybe it was COVID related and supply chain based, but I ordered the house salad which came out with wilted/spoiled lettuce, bruised tomatoes, and brown shredded carrots. My husband who has a severe celiac allergy ordered the ravioli which the server said was possible to make gluten free. When the dish came out, it was definitely not ravioli which we ordered. They decided to serve us with GF fusilli which the server did not communicate. To top things off, the sauce on the pasta dish was bland and had absolutely zero flavor. Overall, this was not a great experience and we will definitely be exploring other restaurants within the area! read more

I went outside and found a waitress and asked for a table for six. . She left for awhile but did come back and gave us a dirty table. She placed the menus right over the unwashed table. I had to ask her to please clean the table. My husband ordered the Steak sandwich on a Sheboygan hard roll. The steak was served on a hamburger bun! The steak was overcooked. One of the worst eggs benedict I ever had - I order it whenever I go for brunch. They put a tomoato thing on top which was extremely sour. The eggs were overcooked. By far THE worst I have EVER experienced. Nearly non-existent service by high-schoolers, food was undercooked and mis-prepared when it came TWO hours later... And the waitress didn't know who had ordered what. We were still sitting waiting as another table was served, finished eating, & paid the check. Never refilled the waters or cleared any appetizer plates from the table. The waitress actually came and looked directly at the table debris & you could tell she didn't want to clear it... So guess what? She didn't. Do you want a drink? Better go straight to the bar, because it's not coming for another half hour otherwise, even though there were FIVE communal wait-staff for 8-10 small tables. Usually I am not a fan of hotel restaurants but Otto's Restaurant was actually really good. I arrived at the hotel late afternoon and I was not familiar with the area at all so I thought I would give Otto's a shot. I ordered onion soup and the mac and cheese with bacon because I was in Wisconsin so why not have something with a lot of cheese (not that I really need a reason to order cheese in the first place though). Both dishes were quite good and the rest of my group enjoyed their meals as well. Service was attentive and friendly as well. It is not a very big restaurant so if its a busy weekend you might want to call down and make a reservation first. I did end up having breakfast there one day and their berry pancakes were are on my top 5 all time list. read more

Try the Farmhouse plate of eggs with crispy potatoes and definitely try the hard-to-find pumpernickel toast that is warmed just slightly so it has a warm toasty crust without getting crunchy. Went for brunch on a Sunday after a wedding and I haven't had service so poor in years. I'm actually sitting at the table writing this review on my phone because the service is so slow. The coffee I waited ten minutes for is terrible and the server spilled water on my phone. The hostess was rude and apathetic. Haven't gotten the food yet, but for $10, my oatmeal better be amazing. It's especially ridiculous that the service is so slow because there's a ton of people coming in and out of the kitchen and there's a buffet. This restaurant was alright. I had the chocolate chip pancakes, and they weren't that great. The bacon was alright, but the service was good. But one thing is to pray that you aren't sitting outside, because there were SO MANY BEES! I found bees and yellow-jackets flying around our table at least 10 times. It was horrible. They are all swarming to the flowers. I wish they had traps for all of these bees, because this review would have a slightly better rating if they at least tried to consider this problem. But we couldn't eat peacefully because of this problem. read more
