This is the second time I've been to the store and the sales clerk is. I understand you are backed up and overwhelmed, but you never wear it on your shoulder. When you're working in a field where you deal with customers, 9 times out of ten they are guaranteed to change their mind. 1. Service - The people here are friendly, but they're not easy to be found. This location has downsize on employee count since they've opened in the 90s. I guess because internet purchases are so convenient nowadays, and it's not a big need to walk in a store anymore. So one employee may cover multiple sections, and they're not easy accessible because they are busy filling supplies or helping other customers. It's not that they're hiding, but I think there is only one person that was a floater, ready to assist people. Other workers were stationed somewhere and couldn't leave their counters. 2. Pricing - Price is not bad, pretty reasonable for most things. But as an online purchaser, I'd like to keep my options open and compare prices. Even at the store, I might think twice before I make a purchase. One thing I wasn't too happy about, was that I found something on their website, but it wasn't available at the store. 3. Ambiance - The typical office depot. It's clean, and spotless most of the time. Good A/C and heating system. lol. 4. Quality - There are a variety of brands and prices to choose from. So quality is very reliable. 5. Setup - The floor setup is not very efficient. The place is huge and the placement of things should be categorized differently. For example, the business briefcases, planners, calendars, should be near the same isle for office supplies like paper, and pens, etc. Computers, laptops, and tablets should not be in the middle that splits these two sections. They are more closely related, but they are on opposite ends of the building. read more

A gentleman stopped to offer me some help and help me make a better choice as to the ink I normally purchase! Love having to not struggle to look for help! The cashier was also super nice and I love how informative he was as he stepped away, letting me know he was going to remove the security! this is in reference to the Office Depot on Westheimer at Hillcroft. Their customer service bites big time. I went over there to email to their email address forms I needed downloaded. It was 6:27 pm today (Wed 6/12) and the kid working the copy area told me they shut down the area 30 minutes prior to closing the store Store closes at 7PM I said its 6:27, I got 3 minutes and this will take just a couple of minutes to send my email to yours and so you can download my 9 forms He said no because they're already shut down! I said you just told me 30 minutes prior and I got 3 minutes left . The little shit shrugged his shoulders and walked away from me! If they had simply noted it on their website they shut down their copying station 30 minutes prior to closing I would not have gone! I wonder as I'm typing this if he was lying to me?! I and I've seen it with other people dealing with these kids at various retail outlets, they have a shitty attitude and no sense of providing helpful service to their customers. 0 STARS! I arrive to pick up my on-line order. The store feels unclean and is a disorganized mess of kiosk displays. Oh well. So I begin looking for the on-line pick up area. Unable to find any signage, I had to ask two different associates before I found it. It's a shelving unit (like you might see in someones garage) tucked off to the side of the registers. It was a mess of bagged up items with a letter-size print out on it identifying it as the on-line pick up area. It was un-manned so I began searching for my order. An associate came over to help. My order wasn't there. He disappeared behind double doors and eventually emerged with it. He then escorted me to the registers and told me to get in-line. NONSENSE! I bought and paid for my order on-line. Standing in-line completely negates the convenience of ordering on-line! But whatever. So as I'm standing in-line, I see the WHITE woman that arrived to the store after me be escorted to an open register and checked out immediately. She too was there to pick up an on-line order. I, of course, asked why she was checked out and I was asked to get in-line. The associates gave me no answer. Instead they kept explaining their check out policy. I continued to ask if their policy was to get in-line, why was the WHITE woman checked out ahead of me. Again, dear in headlights. Office Depot won't see another red cent from me. read more

From the parking lot to the store front this store appears to be very neglected and that feeling continues once you enter. A large under utilized space devoid of any welcoming feel or atmosphere. I was approached quickly by an associate who quickly took me to the incorrect area of the store and told me they did not have the item in stock and promptly walking away. I proceeded to look on the website and find that the item was indeed in stock. Upon relocating this associate she took me to the correct section. At this point I proceeded to the check out line that had 4 people already waiting to just one cashier. There were by my count seven associates on the floor and one cashier. A customer came up behind me in line and started he had already asked them to bring up another cashier but no one has come up. After we had all checked out no one had come up to backup cashier nor did any of the associates milling around the floor come up even when the customers in line asked them to help. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I only gave it one star because the Manager Herbie was DESPERATELY trying to make things better for me, and it seems he was stressed from the lack of help and incompetence from his fellow employees. I'll try to make this short(insert eye roll) Started Off by coming here in search for a desktop for my employees. (We are trying to move away from using IPads to check out our guest.) I will say, upon walking in, you are greeted by whoever is at the front, and I was asked several times if I needed any help. I will say if someone can't help you, they will grab someone who can. The young lady who assisted me in the computer section was very informative in educating me on which computer would be best for my business. She gave her personal opinions and then gave statistic facts, and then allowed me to make my decision. It was late in the evening, but she insisted that she would have it ready for pick up the next day before 11:00am. I'm going to spare you the details with the check out process, and how she couldn't figure out how to properly split 2 payments, nor did she call for assistance to help her figure out another way. (I guess she did her do diligence by being so helpful with the computer situation right? Can't have it all) Moving on.. The next day I arrived around 10:15am to pick up my computer and rectify the situation with the check out issue the night before. Herbie(the manager) helped get that taken care of, and then went to check on my computer. It's now 11:00am and the computer is not ready. I sit and wait until 12:15pm and the set up with the computer is still not done! Here is the problem; 1. They are low on Tech Support Staff 2. The equipment from the registers, the telephone, the internet in store is OLD as Jesus!! Everything is dated and runs extremely slow and poorly. 3. They are ALWAYS out of stock on the really nice electronics you may see online, they never have them in store. 4. They do not deliver as promised! It should be no reason I purchased a computer two days ago, and yet the computer still hasn't been programmed/set up, or whatever, and I'm still unable to pick-up the computer!! I keep getting the run around about their internet is running slow or the tech person hasn't made it to work or called in to work!?! In their defense, the manager did give me a bottle of water and a $25 VISA gift card for the store being so behind on technology and me waiting for so long and still not getting any results. The only reason anyone should be going here, is to really just pick up some printing paper and some pens for your desk. Otherwise this place is dusty and dated, and needs some serious UPDATES. read more

I come here when I know what I want and need and get after it. The store for the most part is empty and never really too busy. There's not much staff on hand, but they will help if you ask. I usually come here when I need manila folders, sheet protectors, you know...the basics. I did buy a chair for my office--of which they do have a good selection. read more

Second visit today to get a newspaper article cut and laminated. Their paper slicer did not function at all. When brought to the attention of the copy center rep he offered scissors as an alternative. Unfortunately not an acceptable solution in this situation (boss wants to display article; straight edges are a must). My last visit was to have some business cards made up. No way to enter your purchase card information online where the cards are delivered next day. In person only a small portion of their cheapest options are available without having to order from their third party printer. Then the option I was interested in was not even available though it was advertised online and in store. I ended up purchasing a better, cheaper product elsewhere. I would certainly come back to make straightforward purchases like pens and paper, but may start looking elsewhere for "copy center" services. read more

I just left this location after letting the so-called only manager on duty know that she was an imbecile. After incorrectly handling a return transaction with my boyfriend, I asked why she did not refund to my credit card. Her reply was it's past the 30 day policy. I let this "manager" know that the 30 day policy applies to tech items. Office items can be returned up to 90 days. She then proceeds to tell me well you bought these from another store. Umm yea I'm perfectly aware of that, what does that have to do with this? She tried to lie and say they only give store credit because of that. I'm like ARE YOU KIDDING ME? We went this morning. They did not open on time, then when they did they were too busy still turning on lights to be at the counter so we could make our purchases. Then they all had an attitude as if they were still asleep or mad that they didn't get to finish their blunt, then tried to charge $20.00 for post it notes. So I waited to write this review so I could give them an opportunity to fix the order/ system problem and or communication on their part. However, they failed or as they put it the system was down so the order didn't get completed. A month and a half later and I still don't have the badge I ordered for an event on 10/17/15. Walked in the store about a week or 2 before 10/17 to order a badge to be mailed to my house at the customer service desk. I was then sent to a register to pay for it which I did and I got a receipt . I was told it will be mailed to my home no email confirmation of delivery or anything. Cool so I patiently wait nada. Two weeks later I call to follow up because the money came out my account but the product never arrived. I got the ring around because the manager was new and didn't know what happen she kept guessing. 1st I was told I called and cancelled the order. 2nd an associate cancelled it After speaking to the store manager I found out that someone missed a step during my purchase which cancelled my order the next day. Great they had my money but I didn't have the badge. At this point I'm furious because all I wanted was a darn badge how hard is it to get a badge ordered. I ended up filing a claim with my bank because they asked me to come down to the store to slide my card for A refund. I refuse to waste my time and or gas to drive to the other side of town to slide my card. Biggest mistake I made in the first place. Then the manager said because of their error they would reorder the badge and take care of it. This was back in October. It is now November 18, 2015 and I still don't have a badge. So I call to follow up and what do I get again. Another excuse!! Wonderful! This time when they placed the order the system was down so it never went through. You would think since I had an issue with the 1st order someone would make sure this one is smooth sailing but NO that's good customer service and clearly this location is lacking in that area BIG TIME. I hope the management reads this and really looks into this. Yes, computer systems go down. I work in technology so I understand that. However, you can't blame that and make excuses for not following up with customers orders once you are trying to make a bad experience better. I won't be back again. 2 strikes is enough for me. Along with the fact that no one from their company reads their reviews or bothers to reply. Another sign of terrible customer service. While office depot does a lot of great things they are very slow and their email - in print services are a joke. When I email something in so I can run and get it and make it back to the salon they unfortunately will tell me 1 of 2 things. Either A they waited to print it until I am in store, which defeats the purpose of the emailing in or B they haven't gotten to my prints yet. When giving them approx 24 hrs to complete the assignment is ridiculous. The whole point is to be time saving which I have not experienced yet. Maybe one day. read more

The sales clerk tried helping and he too was confused due to the fact they were in the midst of doing inventory. After trying to figure the prices out and everything we got frustrated and decided to look at other options online. We use Office Depot for short-run printing, laminating, large format posters and some tech equipment. The Copy and Print staff are always helpful, even the new ones listen and then show the printing proof for OK. Office Depot corporate has its issues with keeping up maintenance on their printing equipment, stocking gloss paper on wide format printers, paper stock availability in copying -- be able to run decent card stock for fast jobs! --- and other things that big companies cannot get right. The design and UI of its website for printing orders is not good because they are a retailer, not really a printer. As far as the comment about the paper cutter not working: there is a manual paper cutter we use for trimming an item when they are very busy. They also honor every OD coupon we bring whether it's snapped on our phone from online or out of a weekly ad. This saves us a lot of money because we're in there one a week to print something. Recently they changed how they check you out at printing --- they get your printing done and then send you to the front to check out --- if front's not busy --- that keeps the print/copy people focused on getting jobs done right away for business people in a hurry. I know they recently hired someone with print shop experience and it's showing because he knows what really needs to be fixed on equipment and is getting it done. Yes, I have seen a manager who has not jumped in an opened a register -- standing in place "surveying" from 20 feet away --- and a manager who annoyed me when a cashier was trying to enter my rewards number and it didn't take. Instead of watching that for 10 minutes he should have come over when he saw the hiccup in his check-out line and showed the trainee in a NICE way what we both were overlooking. There ARE managers there who are awesome, roll up sleeves and pitch in. Bottom line: we've lived in Houston 2 years. We traveled a lot for business. Only one OD in another city matched the service of this location. They get things done for us and save us money. read more
