I have a Quadient postage machine under contract, with 7 months left on the term. I am merging…read moremy office with another firm and want to PRE-PAY the ENTIRE remaining balance due under the contract and return the machine early. But nooooooo! According to Quadient, even if i pay in FULL every penny that is owed under the contract, returning the machine early will result in a 30% penalty-----even though Quadient is paid in full, suffers no damages, and gets the machine back early. Instead, per Quadient, i have to take the machine home, pay an invoice every month for 8 months, and THEN ship it back to them. Makes no sense and the 30% early return "penalty" may actually be an illegal penalty. I may consider challenging it via arbitration, and if successful, bring a class action for disbursement/return of the 30% charged for all equally situated class members. This is both a stupid and possibly illegal practice.
