I dropped my package at this store location on April 22. The package was labeled and scheduled for a pickup from US Post Office. Fifteen days later, the tracking number still has a status of waiting for a pickup. I visited the store to inquire about the location of the package. They could not locate the package. They don't know if the package was picked up from Fed Ex or US Post. The manager of the store has no record of the package being scanned for pickup. Customer service was very poor. Warning. Thank you Kelly. On Sunday, March 29, 2026, I stopped by the store right at closing time. I was not aware they close earlier on Sunday. I was told they were closing. I explained I needed one copy made, just one copy. Kelly took the document from me & walked to a copier. She made the copy, handed it to me & I offered to pay. She said "I'm not going to charge you". She never smiled or acknowledged me, but she didn't throw me out of the store either. I've bought quite a bit of office stuff over the years including office furniture from this store. There are OfficeMax locations all around America and strangely enough, this is the only one I've ever been to. That's probably saying a lot more about me than it is about how I feel about this chain and despite how much people may loathe office tech, I actually quite like it. Yet there's a certain generic feel here that I can't put my finger on and eventually becomes a Best Buy type experience: look, touch, but don't buy. Their sister chain, Office Depot is equally as ho hum. Sure, they might be the largest office supplier in the country but perhaps the mere fact that society has become purveyors of the Amazon ship-it-to-me now dulls the appeal of ever coming here. The aura is genuinely very stale. Yet, this is a 3 star review. And here's why: * Things are organized. Prices are labeled clearly, it's generally quite easy to find certain things, and aisles are generally clean. I appreciate not having to consult with the staff about finding something when it can be easily done on my own. * Parking is fantastic. A big ol lot that is shared by a next door sporting goods store that doesn't see a lot of traffic. * Since prices aren't fantastic, they are prone to big sales. Most of my visits are literally because something is half off. * They have a good inventory of most of the things people would want. If there was a good thing about the largest in anything, this is the biggest benefit. Customer service can a bit dicey as always and there aren't many more reasons to consider this spot over anything online. Ultimately, is it bad that I would almost prefer going to a Staples more so than OfficeMax? Probably. read more

When I went, I had a 20 page affidavit to send via fax. Their fax machine timed out over and over again. Let me back track. When I walked in, I made a beeline over to the service area. There were two gentlemen working. One was helping a customer, and the other was sitting behind a computer. I waited about 10 minutes before I was acknowledged. Not a hello or I will be with you in a minute. When the computer guy stood up, he asked if I had been helped. I said, "No." He asked what he could do for me and I said I needed to send a fax and that I needed a cover sheet. He gave me a cover sheet and told me where the fax machine was. It may come as a surprise to some, but I don't know how to use a fax machine. So, here I am standing around looking stupid, because I don't know what I'm supposed to do. Finally, a young lady comes over and asks if I've been helped and I said, "Kind of. I need to send a fax out and I don't know how to do that." She immediately and eagerly took me to the fax machine, showed me how to operate it, etc. My fax didn't go through. I was there for nearly an hour, and my fax didn't go through. It wasn't their fax machine, but the number the attorney gave me kept timing out. So, she looked for other numbers to call him or other possible fax numbers at his office, to no avail. She went online and did this. I told her it was ok, because I have my ride waiting in the car, and it's hot outside and I'm sure they are ready to go. She didn't charge me and apologized over and over. 3 stars for great service by her, two stars less for the guys who were useless. read more

I can never say enough about how awesome, friendly, helpful and dependable all of the staff at the Lancaster store are. However, I do need to say that the "Super Hero" at the Lancaster store is Adam. He is the go-to guy in the computer repair and service department. Several years ago I went to a nearby computer store that I thought had taken care of me but when I got my computer back I was missing many things. I went to Adam at Office Depot and he took my still very sick computer ran his tests and did his magic. From that point on I have recomended Adam and his skills far and wide. He told me exactly what i needed to do to keep my computer clean and working. When I need help I know I can go and ask Adam and the problem will be solved in less than 8 hours. To be honest Brian has also been a great help. Yesterday though was a life saver. It is tax time, my personal life has had many family health issues this past year. I was dreading trying to get back to catchup my accounting software so I would be ready to turn in my financial information to my accountant. I tried to get on my account but could not come up with the right password. I went to my accountant hoping they could help me with my password. They tried but couldn't. I mentioned that I know a computer magician. My accountant said go see you magician. I went to see Adam who confidently and happily set to work typing directions to my computer taking it to places I had never seen before. Within minutes he was guiding me through the steps to create a new password and open up my past years of financial information. I couldn't say thank you enough. I wanted to offer him whatever I could think of to repay my gratitude. I offered a weekend at our resort home but he quickly said no that was against company policy. Adam saved me so much time, anxiety and heartache over the issues that I was facing that I felt a simple thank you was just not enough. This recommendation is the only way I can think of to let the world and Adam's supervisors know that Office Depot and I are SSSSSSOOOOOOOOOO LUCKY to have such a brilliant, skilled, friendly, helpful, and honest employee. The store itself was fine. But I was told that a project would be complete in 24 hours when ordered online. And with this knowledge, I planned an important business meeting. Had I known this was a lie and that the store is sorely understaffed and cannot keep up with printing demands, I would have planned my meeting more appropriately, but as I had the guarantee, and NO other updates were given about any expected delays, I thought things were going to be ready when stated. This was not the reality. Corporate needs to get their act together and stop making promises to make a sale, it is not fair to the employees that have to clean up the mess when they are understaffed. read more

I'm thankful for this Office Max because it's in an easy to find location on Lancaster and because it has a copy center (9 cents per copy for black & white). I don't know how this store stays in business though. There were only two other customers in the store and it looked like there were only four employees. I'm sure office supply stores, like many other large stores, have lost walk in customers since it's just so easy to order everything online. read more

I went into this office max for ink. I couldn't find any so I went looking for someone to help me. The place was a literal ghost town. I saw someone that worked the a called out for help. This man looked at me like I was garbage. I asked about the ink and tried to inquire about it being at another store. The unpleasant man then just lashed out at me stating that if I watched the news I would know there was an ink shortage. I responded with I watch the news everyday and knew nothing about it. At which point he got nasty and said look i am trying to help you. Didn't seem that way. I absolutely get how tough it is to work with the public these days, but that is no excuse to treat people like garbage. read more

I don't shop "office" stores very often, but on occasion I have the need for a specific pen or binder. The last time that I was at this store, it was empty. Literally--no customers and NO EMPLOYEES. No joke, I could have walked in and grabbed an armful of junk and walked out and no one would have seen anything. I think that if Staples ever decided to open a branch in Salem, OfficeMax would go out of business (like the Office Depot down the street that finally closed shop). I've been to this location several times, and it always seems just not as organized (or clean) as Staples. Anyway, this review is more for their printing services, which I have used a number of times. On a recent trip, I had to get a report printed and bound. The staff there is friendly, but getting the simplest tasks done seem to take forever. They have a ridiculous job order form that just seems unnecessary, asking questions like "Why did you come into the store?" and "How is the intended audience for this document?" Why does any of that matter?? At the end of the day I got what I wanted, they got the order right, and the price was fair, so I guess there isn't much to complain about. If you need printing, this Officemax will get the job done. Just bring your patience with you. read more

The past three visits were after 5:30pm on the weekdays. I needed to have a few copies made and each time the line of waiting customers was at least 20 minutes. Just one employee working in the copy section. Two other employees standing and talking to each other and not offering to help. I'm done with these people. read more

This is the worst company!!! I bought a toshiba laptop. The manager was great and told us we could return within 14 days. It was 12/5/2012. We had them optimize it 99.99 and bought the anti virus for 69.99. I took it back on 12/12/2012 and they wanted to charge 70.00 restocking fee plus the 170.00 I was out for optimization and anti virus and they would not transfer the anti virus to a new lap top I was wanting to buy online. We called them later to see if they would atleast put the 170.00 towards a better computer and the person said, "we can't help you!" Will never buy from there again. Now out 170.00. I hope this helps other people from getting scammed!! Atleast they could have given me the anti virus that I paid for. We got screwed!! read more

I have gone to this Office Max in the past to ship packages via FedEx and had an OK experience. Most recently when I went in, the person manning the shipping desk was new and did not know what she was doing. Why someone who has never been trained on the FedEx software would be placed at that desk is beyond me. She originally told me they couldn't even ship FedEx. There was another employee nearby but you could tell she was too annoyed to help. The employee helping me just kept looking at me and whining, "I don't know how to do this." I can understand being new, but I'm not sure how she got the job with that attitude/motivation level. When we were done, she told me she wasn't sure she did it correctly. The transaction should have taken 5 minutes and I was there for 45 minutes to ship 1 package. read more

I have to agree with other commenters about the helpfulness of the print center. It's getting a lower rating because of something to do with the overall chain, not the employees here; but I'm hoping their managers are proactive, mature and responsible enough to pass this on. The Rewards program availability *sucks*. There's no reminder at the cash register of any rewards you may have to use, and the cashier apparently can't access it for you. They try to send you through a "kiosk" at the store, which still doesn't get you a result you can use on the premises to see if you're eligible for percent off of your purchase. As still seems to be the case, for a corporation that works with and relies on computer and IT for much of its sales and infrastructure, not being able to get quick and useful access for customers to apply any discounts while in the store is a *major* Achilles heel. I work in IT project mgmt, and this is a serious, serious gaffe in customer responsiveness. Kudos to the poort store staff who did their best to help; but Officemax mgmt, we will be trying our luck at Office Depot, Staples & Kinko's for a while. Bear that in mind, as my spouse & I both have non-profit business to take elsewhere. read more
