Extremely disappointing experience. Improper conduct in my opinion by attorney in New York City office. Went to this firm to have our wills/trusts revised. Attorney failed to give us options and information in advance to make informed decision about choices. Attorney recommended we leave our bequests in beneficiary trusts for individuals. Said that would shield them from creditors. Fine, I suppose, as far at it went. Did not until pressed and questioned by me: say what costs were involved setting up trusts for 15 beneficiaries; tell us of constraints on beneficiaries on access to money or decision making; tell us of ongoing responsibilities of trustee to manage investments in trusts and file tax returns. She set up trusts for us that would maximize in her view exemption from state inheritance taxes. Fine. To obtain this benefit, the trusts required a co-trustee, which she told us about. But, she did not tell us until repeatedly pressed by me that two modifications could be made that would enable the surviving spouse to have sole control over investment management and also enable substantial annual withdrawals from the principal without approval of the co-trustee. We were presented with a draft and asked to review it as written. However, no person without legal training could reasonably be expected to know that the control of the co-trustee over the surviving spouse could be significantly modified with the addition of these two provisions. Regarding the bequests to individuals, it was never stated that you could simply leave money directly to them rather than put it in beneficiary trusts that involved cost and time to manage, as well as leaving the beneficiaries constrained. The information and available choices should have been provided to us at our introductory meeting. We would then be able to express our preferences. The draft should have reflected those. Instead, we got a draft without knowledge of. standard options. Choices were made pre-emptively. Extensive questioning was required to ferret out this information, which added significantly to the bill. Billing was also mis-handled. Did not get monthly statements as promised. First invoice received showed I owed money above the retainer, but I hadn't received those monthly bills to account for time up to that point. End of story: Charge was 50% more than estimate. After rejecting initial offer of a slight reduction, I negotiated down to original estimate. Non-lawyer senior manager was responsive. And ultimately helpful. Despite that, don't want to use that lawyer or this firm again. . read more

This law office is out to get your money. During consultation and on the contract, they said it was a flat rate only for us to find out that they charge extra fees for every communications with us, like emails, phone calls, and all virtual meetings. How else were we to get the status of our case?!! We expected a case to take 1 year turned out to be 3+ years and they gave us associate lawyers that just joined the firm. We ended up paying a total of 10 thousand dollars on lawyer fees and after going on the fourth year, we had to pay off to settle as we were bleeding money that went to the lawyer pockets. This office was a total scam. If you looking for lawyers to fight for you, this office is not where you find those lawyers. The lawyers in this office are only out to get your money and to drag your case out as long as they could to line their pockets. read more

Online presence makes the firm sound impressive but it is a terrible firm to be a customer with. Neglect-- missed important deadlines, did not respond to opposing counsel, failed to pass on documents that needed to be immediately addressed. Lack of communication--ghosted me and overpromised results and follow up that did not manifest Misrepresentation/Dishonesty-- exaggerated the position of opposing counsel which generated unnecessary drama and emotional distress Fee disputes/Excessive fees--charged me for services that were not performed. This was the worst experience I have had with a law firm or any other business. Emily Nerino was meek and ineffective against a pro se defendant in court. She lacks the experience to properly represent her clients. All of the attorneys with whom I interacted at this firm were arrogant and rude. Further, they overcharge. There are plenty of smaller firms with more capable attorneys that charge less for better representation. Do yourself a favor, and stay clear of Offit Kurman. read more

This is for their McLean office. If you have to go into a courtroom expect to lose your custody case because your attorney may be grossly underprepared. $10000 to file paperwork and appear in court. Appear, not argue your case. I was also not prepped beforehand. I had to call the attorney days before my court date to ask if I should come in and prepare for my time on the witness stand. We met for a half hour. My ex met with their attorney for the entire week beforehand and I'm sure were preparing the case months in advance and it showed. Clearly I am upset at the outcome but wouldn't be angry with my attorney if I had thought she had put up any kind of fight. read more

I totally agree with what Vikas D. had to say about this firm. Avoid them, please!!! I am $10k short because of these sharks! They continue to bleed money from you but never deliver. I felt they were not aggressive enough with the opposition, half the year gone and I'm $10k short, and still nothing was achieved. In fact, they told me that despite I had $1200 left in my retainer funds, they changed their minds and decided to also take the very last money I had left and threatened to charge me more because they think I was incorrectly billed!! They were justified to use up every single dollar I had left in my retainer!! The biggest mistake I made was not doing my homework and checking out the reviews before going through this incompetent firm because I trusted the current lawyers here in Australia, (I'm currently in Oz since COVID hit!) I hope karma finally hits Offit/Kurman, these ppl are money hungry, and they are not there for you!! So please, stay away from Offit/Kurman for your own financial peace of mind!! read more
