I accidentally found this place on a New Braunfels list of places to eat and I'm so happy I did. What a fun place to drop $50 on your way to a brewery. It's not the largest bottle shop but the selection is good and it was fun to see breweries that I normally don't. I bought 2 mixed 6 packs (I mean you save 10%....). Craft beer lovers, check this place out if you are in the area!

I really enjoy trying new beers here. I love that I can choose something on tap or try just one can to see if I like it. If you like something, you can build your own 6pack. If you wanna stay and try things, order the pretzel or the biscuits. There's no wrong answer- though the hot chicken one is hot- be forewarned! (Think hot wing sauce) they also have some sort of slushee that I meant to try but I forgot because I was distracted by a "sour IPA" and some other interesting things I wanted to try. Try them out, taste some things or wear your mask and build your 6 pack to try at home!

Cool place to come grab some beer, frozen sangria or wine (quite a selection). While the inside is tight and cozy, the outdoors has a lot of seating. It is dog and kid friendly, and a nice place to just sit and enjoy the weather. On some weekends there is a food truck, so that is nice. Overall the place is clean and very welcoming. There is a lot of bottled beers and ciders to pick from and just a small amount of beers on tap. While I understand that space is probably an issue, I wish they wouldn't carry local beers like Faust on-tap. If I want Faust, I can drive over there. If more taps were available it'd be fine but I'd rather try something else local but not from the same town.

Awesome spot in New Braunfels that offers tons of craft beers. You can create your own six-packs and the beers are super cheap. The folks who work here are also super helpful. There are cold beers ready to go and also beers that are not refrigerated. Tons and tons to select from. There is also outdoor seating right outside to enjoy the beers. We kind of randomly chose our beers, but each one of them was great.

Great selection!!! The owner was very nice too. We took home many can beers we couldn't find anywhere else in San Antonio and the surrounding areas.

Such a fantastic spot! 15ish rotating taps of all local beer. Really well curated selection. Drink local! Great staff & service. No food, but they do have wine. Also have a margarita machine! Over 100 unique beers available in bottles & cans, than you can buy and drink on site, or carry out. You can get on-draft beers in 4oz, 12oz, & pint variations. Cool outdoor area. Lovely, charming spot - should be a must for any lover of beer.

Wow! What a place. So many amazing deals on cans I was blown away by selection and price. Dog friendly, clean and good tunes.

Rhodes craft bier station is loaded with wonderful bier. I'm a lifelong resident of New Braunfels and I'm very happy the Rhodes family opened this Craft Bier bar!!! The service is first rate, the selection is unmatched in this area, and the product is fresh and tastes great. Conveniently located downtown across from the LCRA building (Landmark Apartments) and cater-cornered from Wurstfest grounds. If you're reading this wondering where to go for a great bier, look no further!!!!!

Nothing but craft beers on draft, bottle and cans. No typical domestics. Great neighborhood watering hole. No liquor, just great beer!

Do y'all carry any non alcoholic craft beers?

Yes! We have a few different flavors right now from a Belgian Pale, Stout, Amber and IPA. We strive to provide the best craft beer selection in New Braunfels and this includes NA craft beer options as well. Prost!!!

Plenty of seating options from stools to Adirondack chairs, as well as fire pits for those chilly nights. They don't actually serve food, but there is a food truck outside the entrance. I don't know if it changes, but this truck offered tacos and quesadillas that night. We didn't have any. Drinks are just OK. Beer selection is poor if you're a picky beer drinker. The margaritas are from a machine and a little on the weak side. Since I was the DD, I ordered a soda and it was awful. A lot of bars go cheap and serve off-brand sodas because people will mix them with alcohol and not notice that they aren't the "real deal." I couldn't drink it. It was so bad, I shuddered after every sip - and then I gave up. I ordered a water, and that was just as terrible! I don't know if it's the dispenser gun that carries over the flavors of everything else that comes out of it, or the ice is funky, or what, but I couldn't drink that either. I wish they'd have bottled water or something. Canned soda? Something that will make it enjoyable for everyone, not just the alcohol consumers? Being an occasional DD, there has to be something for me to enjoy, too, since I'm the one who decides how long we'll stay and when we'll leave if it's not good. Service was walk-up to the bar. Still, I give it 4 stars just because the overall vibe is really cool and the band we love was playing that night.

It has a classy, tasteful speakeasy vibe without feeling overdone or pretentious. They also have a private room that would be great for a special group gathering or a more intimate celebration. The grand piano in the room adds a really elegant touch and makes the space feel even more elevated. We went on a Monday night, so it's hard to say what the normal energy is like on a busier evening, but the overall atmosphere was still very pleasant. Service was friendly and attentive, which I appreciated. The only thing I would have loved was a little more creativity or guidance with the cocktails. The space gives the impression that you're about to get a true mixologist-style experience, but the recommendations we received were pretty standard, like Old Fashioneds and martinis. We were hoping for something a little more unique or original, maybe a twist on a Sidecar or an elevated take on a classic Old Fashioned. That said, it's still a beautiful spot with great ambience, pleasant service, and a very nice overall feel. I would definitely go back, especially on a busier night to see the full vibe.

Fortunately, if it can be considered fortunate, I had a total reverse shoulder replacement surgery a week before Thanksgiving this year. That gave me a "get out of kitchen" pass. We decided that Thanksgiving would be held at my son's house in New Braunfels. He and his wife have an 11.5 month old baby, so it's easier to do it there anyway. To simplify things, they shopped around, looking for a ready to serve, prepared Thanksgiving dinner. They selected the Black Whale because it was the most affordable, and they had heard good things about the place. The dinner package came with a turkey, gravy, dressing, mashed potatoes, greenbean casserole, and a pumpkin or pecan pie. They chose the pecan pie. When my daughter-in-law went to pick up the meal, the Black Whale had also thrown in a loaf of bread and a small loaf of cranberry cornbread. Altogether, they more than gave us our money's worth for this meal. Everything about the meal was good. The turkey was moist, juicy, and flavorful. I don't know how they cooked it or how they prepared it before cooking, but it definitely had flavor throughout. The dressing came in a little round foil pan and looked like some kind of rolls. It was absolutely delicious! It had a little bit of turkey meat in it that gave it a great mouth feel. But the seasoning was what really made it great. The mashed potatoes were very buttery and delicious, even though they were a little runnier than I like. The gravy over all of it was very good. I am not a very big fan of green bean casserole. I liked it back in the day when it first started showing up. But, after so many decades, I'm kind of over it. This was really delicious. It had lots of extra flavors in it. I'm pretty sure they used bits of ham. Since I am a boomer, the green beans could've been cooked a little bit more. My generation likes them cooked to death. I really don't remember my mother using fresh green beans for anything back in the day. I wish they had given us a much larger loaf of the cranberry cornbread. It was amazing. I had never tried a cornbread with fruit in it before. This was moist, sweet, and tart at the same time. The pecan pie was very good. I only wish I had had some whipped topping or vanilla ice cream to put on it. It could've been homemade. I don't think there's really much they could have done to make this a better Thanksgiving feast. Our family was very happy with it. Kudos to the Black Whale for a job well done!
