I loved the atmosphere. We were excited to try it for the 1st as we always find a German restaurant to try if they are around. Showered the food for how expensive it was fell a little sharp. The flavors were bland and muted in all their schnitzels. The pretzel was cold. The service wasn't especially helpful and friendly but everyone has an off day. We probably will never go back, but we are still glad we tried it. The beer was exceptional though! read more

Absolutely loved our visit to Alpine Haus during our visit to New Braunfels, Tx. We started with a pretzel served with beer cheese and mustard and amazing fried mushrooms served with a homemade ranch and Horseradish dip. It was a very tasty way to start dinner with some delicious German beer and wine selections. All the schnitzel was delicious and you can choose pork, chicken or veal with most of them as well as your choose of sides. My husband chose the spatzle which is a German pasta- very yummy. Most entrees come with a choice of soup or salad and they lap brought some delicious marbles rye bread and butter to the table. I chose the pork jager-rham schnitzel with a mushroom and sour cream gravy. It was heaven. The meal was fantastic and we will definitely be back! The only complaint y husband had was that he thought the waitress was trying a little too hard to rush the orders / drinks and meal which kind of annoyed him. He usually tops 25-30% but only tipped 20 due to feeling like he couldn't enjoy his meal because he was being rushed. To be fair- it is summer and their busy season, but I would recommend that could ease up a bit with rushing the orders. This is a seated restaurant- not McDonald's. People want to enjoy their meal and the delicious food. We would have ordered a lot more drinks and cocktails if we had the opportunity. Ach Du lieber ya'll ! In New Braunfels with its German heritage, you would expect a great German restaurant. Alpine Haus delivers in spaten! For our first time, we had the brie appetizer to start. Wowzers! An entire brie wheel, covered in almonds with beautifully soft marbled bread. It would easily satisfy a party of four. I had an excellent rouladen (exactly like my German grandmother made!!) Delicious!! and hubby had a tasty chicken Rahm Schnitzel (creamy mushroom sauce with chicken) which was devine. Our server was wonderful, friendly and so helpful. Great German ambiance. Lunch @ the Alpine. I ordered the Reuben sandwich, which came with complementary rye bread, and a soup or salad. I opted for the onion soup, and you could clearly see the thinly sliced onions--even after I'd already enjoyed half of it. It was delicious! What a great find! We stopped by for a sit down dinner after spending the day at WurstFest. The wait was reasonable (maybe 20 minutes) and the little garden area out front was a pleasant place to wait. The building is an old house, with three rooms of tables of various sizes. The kitchen is the back part of the house. We split the dinner entree of Pork Weiner Schnitzel. We chose red cabbage, sauerkraut and fried potatoes. All very good! It also came with rye bread and either soup or salad. The portion was quite generous and the two of us had plenty to eat. The waitstaff and bussers were friendly and attentive. They were out of dessert by about 7pm, which probably speaks to how good it is. Maybe we'll get some next time. read more

I think this may be the best schnitzel we've ever had. A very authentic, German restaurant recommended to us by some of the locals. As soon as we walked in, we are greeted with the smell of the food in the air, the staff, and a gentleman in lederhosen playing German songs on the accordion. The only way it could get more authentic is if they handed you a full bier mug and screamed "Prost" as you walked in lol. It looks like it was once someone's home that has since been renovated into a restaurant. Very cozy and homey. Baylee was our very attentive waitress. We never wanted for anything. My husband got a Duvel, and I got a weihenstephaner Hefeweizen, both delicious and refreshing. For food - The starter salad was nice and light, covered in a house made dill vinaigrette. Unique, light and refreshing. I dipped our bread in the extra dressing left in the bowl. Then the schnitzel! I got the Jäger Schnitzel and my Husband got the Ziguener Schnitzel. Mine was savory with a mushroom gravy sauce that had the right amount of thickness to it. Perfect for the potato dumplings to be soaked in. I could've done with less mushrooms on mine, personally. My husbands had a nice bell peppery flavor to it, not spicy at all. The spätzel was tasty too. We were so happy we chose this place, we don't have a lot of good German food out by us. Both our dishes came with sauerkraut as well. I'm not super into sauerkraut. But it had a yummy tang to it. It was perfect when used as a garnish for every bite you take. Kinda like how you put a bit of sliced ginger on your sushi roll before you eat it. Only bummer is that they didn't have their dessert menu available at the time we went. We drive from Fort Worth several times a year to visit our trusted dentist Dr. Adam Gentry at Cole and Gentry in New Braunfels and make a little three day outing of it to visit restaurants in New Braunfels and San Antonio. Have looked at Alpine House before but something caught my eye this time and we decided to visit for lunch. So glad we did. This quaint, stone wall interior venue takes you back to a country inn in Europe. Such a welcoming and comfortable venue. Our server, Karin, was most pleasant, helpful, and attentive. We began with a bottle of a lovely German White wine to share and for me a Trappistes Rochefort beer which proved to be outstanding. Beer Advocate rates it 100. We decided to share the Reuben sandwich. It was accompanied by a potato and ham soup which proved to be absolutely delicious. Rich and savory. So enjoyable. The Reuben is everything a Reuben oughta be. Reuben perfection and their Reuben sauce here is easily the tastiest I've ever had on a Reuben. The side of German potato salad is packed with flavor and served very enjoyably at a cool, room temperature. I really enjoyed it at this temperature as compared with hot. This will surely be a regular destination for us on our trips to NB. We met a delightful (also retired couple) with whom we are planning to meet for lunch here on our visit this coming June. What an interesting German house in the New Braunfels area. The owners took an old home and turned it in to a German restaurant. It is so adorable, so comfy so much like being in your grandma's home. The service was absolutely wonderful. We went in, not knowing what we wanted, or even ever having real German food, and the waitress took her time, explained everything to us, gave us free samples and really made our dining experience worth it. The food that we ate was absolutely delicious. We had four people, and we all ordered a little something different so that we could taste everything on the menu. The portions were huge. We lived in south Germany for 3 years. As dedicated foodies we ate at every gasthous we could find, and we LOVE German food! When my daughter invited us to dine at this establishment we jumped at the chance. The inside was pleasant, but reservations are required. We sere seated on time and ordered right away. My first red flag was when I asked for a glass of my favorite non alcoholic drink, "spetzi" a combination of coke and orange juice or orange fanta. The waiter looked at me like I was nuts. He had never heard of it! Trust me... EVERYONE in Germany serves it! On to the main course: my son and I ordered the pork rahm schnitzel. I prefer my schnitzel to have a crispy coating. Their version is not crispy at all, but I must give credit for the tenderness of the dish. It was really good and tasty. But I also ordered Spetzle. The noodles were served in a bound up clump rather than loose. My wife and daughter ordered the cordon bleu. This was a major disappointment. Cordon bleu should be a breaded chicken breast stuffed with Swiss cheese, ham, and covered with hollandaise sauce. Their version was a breaded/fried chicken breast cutlet with a thin slice of deli ham and a slice of Swiss cheese. No sauce at all, and it was dry. Also, I was looking forward to Black Forest cake for desert. Sorry, but they were out of it. BFC is (in my opinion) the ultimate German desert. Not having any at 2:00 pm is pretty disappointing. Finally, I have to admit that when first ordering I couldn't help but notice the costs of the dishes, so I knew that the grand total would be epic. For four people and two glasses of beer in short round goblets, DEFINITELY not the German way of at least half a liter "ein halbe" We won't be back! read more

My birthday dinner choice, and it did not disappoint. The Javier-rahm chicken schnitzel was perfectly cooked - golden and crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The sour cream & mushroom gravy was delicious on both the schnitzel and the spatzle. I always love the refreshing dill vinaigrette, because it is so light and flavorful, and the marble rye bread is so soft, fresh and flavorful. The German potato salad has a very light sauce on it, but the combination of bacon and pickles give it a unique flavor that I really like (it's not too mustardy like some German potato salad). My husband loves the crispy fried potatoes and the chicken cordon blue. Service is always friendly and professional and wait time for food delivery was very good. We had a lovely lunch here while visiting New Braunfels with friends. This is a charming little house with multiple cozy dining rooms. The tables were nicely set, and our server was very attentive throughout the meal. The food was great! I had my favorite German dish - Rouladen - with red cabbage (Rotkraut) and Spätzle. The Rouladen was SO BIG I only managed to eat about 1/2 of it. I had never seen one so big (and my mother and grandmother cooked them often and I lived in Germany for many years!) We decided to give this place a second try since my wife, who's from Germany, was craving authentic German food. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing again. My wife ordered the Sauerbraten, but it didn't taste authentic at all. I had the Schweinebraten, and it also didn't resemble what you'd find in Germany. On a positive note, the kids enjoyed their Schnitzel with Spätzle and gravy -- the schnitzel was actually very good. The potato soup and fried mushrooms were also tasty. We considered trying the Black Forest cake for dessert, but at $15 a slice, we decided to pass -- especially given how the rest of the meal tasted. Our server was very friendly and attentive, which we appreciated. However, the prices are extremely high for food that just doesn't deliver on authenticity. We had heard this was the most authentic German restaurant in the New Braunfels/San Antonio area, but unfortunately, it fell short -- the dishes looked appealing but didn't taste right. Good German food in the Austin area is non-existent so three friends and I drove down to New Braunfels from Round Rock for lunch. Alpine Haus is a little old house that's seen better days. We were promptly seated at a large table which was fortunate because we planned on ordering lots of food! We started with a German Spaten Lager while we looked at the menu. The starter salad was fresh and crisp and very cold! I ordered the Zigeuner Schnitzel which is Pork or Chicken Schnitzel topped with a spicy paprika bell pepper and onion gravy. I added spaetzle and red cabbage. We also had Cordon Bleu Schnitzel which is Pork or Chicken cutlet layered with Black Forest ham and Swiss cheese and Jager-Rahm Schnitzel which is Pork or Chicken Schnitzel topped with mushroom and sour cream. In town for work. Sent my Hubby on a 40 minute drive, to get food from here!!! I was craving good food, from my childhood days! Everyone was very nice, and the place is absolutely adorable. Anna assisted my Husband with his to go order, and she was wonderful. I wish I had felt better that night, because it sounds like I would have thoroughly enjoyed myself!!! We both had the schnitzel. It was just the way my Oma used to make it, once a week, growing up in Austria. Perfectly golden and crisp! Enjoyed the sauerkraut as well. Would love to come back, and try the Rindsgulasch!!! Will update this review if I get the chance. In the meantime, we highly recommend trying this outstanding restaurant! I have eaten German food in NY, HI, and CA. My wife and I met friends for dinner at Alpine Haus while visiting New Braunfels a few weeks back. Right off the bat, we were charmed by Alpine Haus' cozy vibe and our waitstaff (Melanie?), but the food--y'all. The FOOD! My friend had the Sausage Platter with a jalapeño sausage and a beef and cheddar sausage. Her husband had the Sauerbraten. I could tell by their reactions they loved their food, and after being offered a bite, I can see why. Both sausages were juicy and flavorful. The wine-marinated beef of the Sauerbraten pretty much fell apart as I picked some off the plate and goodness gracious did it taste great. The juices made for a tender and delectable bite. My wife really loved her Schweinenbraten but I didn't manage to steal a bite from her. (Admittedly, I do have a serious cabbage allergy. She said she didn't want to endanger me since her pork came into contact with the sauerkraut, so... I guess I'll believe her!) I had the Jager Schnitzel because well... mushroom gravy! Lemme tell you, it did _not_ disappoint. The pork was perfectly fried and that mushroom gravy was so rich and decadent. I enjoyed the spätzle but those potatoes? Oof. Delicious! I'm swooning just remembering it. We concluded our dinner with a couple of light and airy Alpine Delights. It was the perfect finish to an incredible meal. Seriously, y'all. That meal was probably one of the best I've ever had. I cannot wait to return to New Braunfels so I can begin eating my way through the menu. Alpine Haus is located in a historical registered home. Much of the original brick is beautifully preserved in the dining areas. Along with artifacts from Germany, the mood is immersive in Germany culture. The wait staff is fantastic: friendly, intelligent, and quick on their feet. Soup of the day was a creamy mushroom rich with cream and sherry. The house salad dressing was a mustard dill vinaigrette that was both sweet and tangy. Such a great dressing for a crisp green salad. For our main course, there was Jagaer schnitzel, rahm schnitzel, and beef rondelet. We all opted for spatzel. If there was one small suggestion, it would be that salt was lacking. However, that's an easy fix. This was a filling and affordable meal that I highly recommend. read more

Took a side trip to New Braunfels! I have been to the "Old" Braunfels in Germany so I heard a colony was stablished here in Texas back in the 1840's. Amazing place! The place has an old Braunfels feel. Ambiance is somber and old-school. They play recorded music in the back ground. 1) Food was good. Ordered the Sausage Sampler. Sausages were delicious! 2) Had a Hefeweizen beer (or two). No draft beer (sat) only bottled. It should be too difficult to have a few draft beers available but I guess those don't sale as much. 3) Server was friendly and attentive. 4) Had a cup of the mushrooms soup. Very good. Overall, this place is nice. I would return in a few visit if I happen to be in the area again. The food menu has a lot of items but not many that caught my eyes. I was hoping to find my most favorite dish the Schweinshaxe or roughly translated it is called the "Pig Knuckle" but it was not meant to be. If you are in the area I recommend you give them a try. This is a small older restaurant with minimal parking in the back. It is renovated and you can see that it was a house that was converted to a restaurant. We ordered pretzels, sausages, french fries, schnitzel and a goulash. The potato balls and schnitzel were delicious! The portions aren't too big. This restaurant is on the pricier side for German food. They charge extra if you share your plate with another person and I didn't like that idea. Overall, it was good but I didn't like the portion sizes and the price and the extra charge on sharing food. read more

My son and daughter-in-law suggested this place for dinner so we figured 'why not'. Glad we went. The restaurant itself is in a historic house from the 1800s. From the outside you may wonder where they could seat people but once inside it opens up. We had reservations, which was good because it was a Saturday night and it was packed. We decided to try the sausage sampler and the soft pretzel for appetizers. Both were delicious. The sausage sample had three types of sausages with 5 pieces of each and it came with German mustard and cheese sauce. All of the sausage types were really very tasty! The pretzel was what the name implies - a very large soft pretzel with German mustard and cheese sauce. It was also very good! For entree's we had the Jager Schnitzel which is pork schnitzel with brown mushroom gravy and Rinder Rouladen, which is thin steak stuffed with pickles, onion, bacon and German mustard with brown gravy on top. Both of these items were extremely good - well prepared and flavorful. The Rouladen could easily feed two and perhaps even three! The portions were very generous, which one often only finds where flavor lacks and they are trying to make up for it with size - here, size and flavor both!! We all had the sauerkraut which was a very traditional flavored kraut and very tasty. The potato dumplings are simply amazing and you must get them! The fried potatoes were very good as well - nothing unique but prepared well. Their salads were good - nothing amazing but good. I loved the potato salad but not everyone did at the table. It is not a 'traditional' German potato salad - it is cold (as opposed to being heated) and it does have large pieces of pickle in it - not what I expected, but I really liked it. For dessert we shared an order of apple strudel and an order of the Alpine Delight (which is pecan crust pie filled with chocolate and topped with whipped cream). Both were very good! Having lived in Europe for a period and coming from a family with strong Germanic roots I can't say enough about the unparalleled quality of our experience at Alpine Haus. It was an absolute delete from the exceptional selection of paired beers to the helpful service staff to the authentic (NOT KITCHY) ambiance that feels like a Bavarian essenhaus to the exceptional food. The people are great. Made our lunch and adventure. The venue couldn't be any more charming. The salad was the first salad in years that didn't ore me. The German chef customized our Saurbraten to the more tangy southern German recipe versus the sweeter northern German recipe. It was an inspired meal. Perfect spatzel. Red cabbage with a hint of nutmeg. The marbled rye hit the perfect note. And my husband really liked the imported German beers. This is my death row meal.
