I don't know why we had not tried this place as it is on my list of places to try. However, that changed this week, and I'm glad it did. Now that tourist season is over, New Braunfels is back on my areas to eat list. We decided that we would try this on a weekday night. We used one of apps for driving directions to get to this place. That turned out to be the only bad thing about this trip. For whatever reason, it took us on a very circuitous route. If I had known that it was located across the street from Pat's Place, I could have driven straight to it. When we finally arrived, I was not sure it was open. Also, signage was poor, so we didn't see it right away. When we did get into the parking lot, parking was easy, and we were able to get next to the entrance. We walked in and were greeted immediately by the young lady behind the counter. She was very friendly, and finding out it was our first time, she explained the entire process for us. Seeing they had Hatch Chili for the Down the Hatch burger, I knew what I had to have (Have you had Hatch Chili on your burger? Once you try it, you will never go back to typical burgers). My wife ordered the classic burger fixed just like she likes it. We also ordered an order of fries. Our food was made fresh and delivered quickly. The lady that brought our food to the table turned out to be the manager, and she was so nice. In fact, she even gave us a free ice cream for dessert:) Our food was piping hot and made just as we ordered. I took one bite and said I'll definitely be coming back. My wife loved her food too. In addition to the burgers being great, I have to say that the fries might have been the best I've ever had. Seriously! They were just crisp enough, hot, fresh, seasoned well, and nongreasy. After finishing our meal, we went to try the ice cream. The young lady working the ice cream stand was so friendly. She explained how they make their own ice cream and wanted us to try as many samples as we wanted. Have gone to Tin Top lots of times & it never disappoints! I got the Bacon Mushroom Swiss burger, it was so good. My friend got the Classic Cheeseburger, he love the mayo! We shared the Hatch Cheddar tots and they perfect to share and super delicious. We sat outside and the weather was so nice. They have outside playground for kids which really nice. The patio is shaded for the summer months. They have an ice cream shop attached, so yum! You order at the front counter and the server was nice. What a fun adventure for burgers we had while at Tip Top! It's always fun for me to explore places that are converted older homes. Definitely walk around the place and look through the windows. I love imagining what all of the rooms used to be and what they would have looked like originally. The staff was so nice and helpful. The burgers were tops, the name is accurate. Really enjoyed the Tin Top Burger Shop. Very rustic vibe. Staff was welcoming as soon as you walk in. Very willing to answer any questions about menu items. Burgers are the jam!! I love a good smash burger and this place has some good smash burgers. Great crust on the patties and still juicy. The onion rings hold up well and just the right amount of breading. We shared burgers at the table and nobody was all that impressed. We felt that we would have been better off at a different burger place known for their fry sauce for half the price. Tiny smash burgers. HUGE cost. We also ordered onion rings to share. They were hard. They were difficult to chew. Ultimately, we left them for the food Gods to deal with. Also, high priced sodas. Had a great lunch at Tin Top today. We had our two puppies with us and were able to sit out on the patio and a picnic table with them while we enjoyed lunch. I had the "Down the Hatch Burger", was outstanding. The bits of hatch pepper were very flavorful without being too spicy, but the sauce kicked in to a great heat level. Shared the order of tater tots, which were nice and crispy. Their root beer in the fountain drinks was probably one of the best root beers I've had in years , tasted like some of the high-end bottled root beer, but even better. Order at the counter and get a pager to let you know when your food's ready. Self service fountain drinks, and a good selection of beers. Came here the other day for a quick bite and was not disappointed. I walked here from downtown, but I did notice that they have a good amount of parking behind the restaurant. When I went in, there was only one group ahead of me, and they were just picking up their food. I ordered a Good Morning Burger, Onion Rings, and a Hopadillo. I paid for my meal at the register and was given a buzzer and my beer. I took a seat near the front and took a couple of pictures while I waited. The wait was not long at all. The food was brought to my table. They do use buzzers, so this this is probably not the norm. I was one person and sat near the front. It would be harder to keep this up for a large group that sat outside. Bringing the food to the table might not be the norm, but I appreciated it. The Onion Rings were crispy and very tasty. The Good Morning Burger came with egg, bacon, and ketchup. I did enjoy the burger. The restaurant has a casual feel to it. Some of the seating there appeared to be old school chairs. Really nice spot and the burgers are "good". I enjoyed this food but according to my family, it was alright. Granted these peoples idea of a good meal are chicken fingers. I had the swineapple burger. It combines heat from the grilled jalapeños and the sweetness of the pineapple in a great balance of flavors along with Swiss cheese. The place itself tries to give a quirky one but it honestly comes off unorganized. Random chairs, booths and stadium seats not everyone's cup of tea but I can see how a lot of folks love it. Service is very mid I understand tipping culture is getting out of hand, but it's really evident when the person behind the register neither welcomes you or walk you through the menu, even though they are looking at you, want her around looking for a way to order. The food itself is very solid and fairly priced. The only sad part was that the regular burger and the kids burger are about the same size so if you don't care about the fancy toppings, save yourself some money and order the kids meal. The redeeming qualities were the manager checking up on the tables and the redheaded young lady at the ice cream side. Call me old school, but I really don't like the people behind the food counter being covered in metal studs all over their face, I have fears of one of them falling in my food. We decided on the Down the Hatch burger for hubby and I had the Bacon Mushroom Swiss and we split a side of garlic Parmesan fries. Hubby got a drink and it was real soda! The food was really good. It came out hot and full of flavor. You order in line and come pick up your order. If I would complain about anything, it would be the flies. I'm not sure what they can do about them because their doors open so often but it was hard to enjoy the meal inside when you are fighting as many flies as you would outside. Came in today with my wife. There is parking in the back and it was fairly empty today, but we came in after 1pm. The building is an old house so it looks rustic. The decor is perfect for New Braunfels celebrating music, food, and German heritage. I ordered the burger of the month, the Schlitterbahn-mi burger and my wife got the hatch burger. She got the little chop salad for a side and I got tots. Her burger was pretty bland which is why I knocked it down a star. But her chop salad was pretty decent. My burger...wow, it was one of the best burgers I've ever had in my life. At first, I just had a small piece of the pickled red onion and there was so much flavor. When I took my first bite the explosion of flavor was a well crafted symphony. Truly don't know how this place has such good reviews. We finally tried it after years of living here, and the smell inside was so bad we couldn't even stand in there. We had to go wait outside while my husband ordered for us. We sat at the picnic tables so our kids could play, but the entire area was covered in trash. We wanted to try a new burger joint around the area we lived at and stumbled upon this little hole in the wall business near New Braunfels Down Town. The resturaunt is East to find and is attached to an ice cream parlor. This location has its own parking and is easy to access. Once you arrive it has a honey feeling to it and the menu is up above the register. They have various options to choose from and also have a burger of the month. I ended up ordering the Bacon Mushroom Swiss burger with fries and my girlfriend ordered the Down the Hatch burger with tots. Both burgers were good and the overall experience was nice. I am not a beef eater and I loved their options for chicken burgers. I ordered the ground chicken with a side of veggies with pickle dip. The veggies are simply carrots and the dip needed more pickle love. Their homemade pickles are delicious! Buy a jar before you go.
