Have gone to Tin Top lots of times & it never disappoints! I got the Bacon Mushroom Swiss burger, it was so good. My friend got the Classic Cheeseburger, he love the mayo! We shared the Hatch Cheddar tots and they perfect to share and super delicious. We sat outside and the weather was so nice. They have outside playground for kids which really nice. The patio is shaded for the summer months. They have an ice cream shop attached, so yum! You order at the front counter and the server was nice. They give you a pager and then you pick your food at the front. They also serve beer. The cost of two burgers, two beers and tip was $40-$50. I will definitely be back! Go burgers!!!

What a fun adventure for burgers we had while at Tip Top! It's always fun for me to explore places that are converted older homes. Definitely walk around the place and look through the windows. I love imagining what all of the rooms used to be and what they would have looked like originally. The staff was so nice and helpful. The burgers were tops, the name is accurate. I really enjoyed my mushroom, bacon and Swiss burger. A soft bun, well seasoned, great size and piping hot. The table was awfully quiet when our food was ready. That's how you know it's good. There is also an ice cream shop to the side if you need dessert. As well as a playground for kids in the front and tables as well. A great place for a date or a meal with family and friends.

Really enjoyed the Tin Top Burger Shop. Very rustic vibe. Staff was welcoming as soon as you walk in. Very willing to answer any questions about menu items. Burgers are the jam!! I love a good smash burger and this place has some good smash burgers. Great crust on the patties and still juicy. The onion rings hold up well and just the right amount of breading. The tots are crisp pillows of potato goodness. Everything is a la carte so you can run up the bill pretty quick. I'd definitely make the 20-30 minute drive again for their burgers.

Had a great lunch at Tin Top today. We had our two puppies with us and were able to sit out on the patio and a picnic table with them while we enjoyed lunch. I had the "Down the Hatch Burger", was outstanding. The bits of hatch pepper were very flavorful without being too spicy, but the sauce kicked in to a great heat level. Shared the order of tater tots, which were nice and crispy. Their root beer in the fountain drinks was probably one of the best root beers I've had in years , tasted like some of the high-end bottled root beer, but even better. Order at the counter and get a pager to let you know when your food's ready. Self service fountain drinks, and a good selection of beers. Tin Top's prices are very reasonable relative to today's market. It's a great values, but you shouldn't miss.

Came here the other day for a quick bite and was not disappointed. I walked here from downtown, but I did notice that they have a good amount of parking behind the restaurant. When I went in, there was only one group ahead of me, and they were just picking up their food. I ordered a Good Morning Burger, Onion Rings, and a Hopadillo. I paid for my meal at the register and was given a buzzer and my beer. I took a seat near the front and took a couple of pictures while I waited. The wait was not long at all. The food was brought to my table. They do use buzzers, so this this is probably not the norm. I was one person and sat near the front. It would be harder to keep this up for a large group that sat outside. Bringing the food to the table might not be the norm, but I appreciated it. The Onion Rings were crispy and very tasty. The Good Morning Burger came with egg, bacon, and ketchup. I did enjoy the burger. The restaurant has a casual feel to it. Some of the seating there appeared to be old school chairs. They have a nice outdoor area that you can enjoy your meal at. I recommend this restaurant for good food and good service.

Really nice spot and the burgers are "good". I enjoyed this food but according to my family, it was alright. Granted these peoples idea of a good meal are chicken fingers. I had the swineapple burger. It combines heat from the grilled jalapeños and the sweetness of the pineapple in a great balance of flavors along with Swiss cheese. It's kid friendly and has a great patio area. Rheas Ice Cream is in the same location and adds a nice after meal treat.

The place to go for burgers & ice cream! They have a variation of burgers, we had the jalapeño, bacon cheeseburger. Also had the banana pudding ice cream & Oreo cookie & coffee ice cream. I regret not getting the goat cheese & raspberry, taste just like cheesecake.

The place itself tries to give a quirky one but it honestly comes off unorganized. Random chairs, booths and stadium seats not everyone's cup of tea but I can see how a lot of folks love it. Service is very mid I understand tipping culture is getting out of hand, but it's really evident when the person behind the register neither welcomes you or walk you through the menu, even though they are looking at you, want her around looking for a way to order. The food itself is very solid and fairly priced. The only sad part was that the regular burger and the kids burger are about the same size so if you don't care about the fancy toppings, save yourself some money and order the kids meal. The redeeming qualities were the manager checking up on the tables and the redheaded young lady at the ice cream side. Call me old school, but I really don't like the people behind the food counter being covered in metal studs all over their face, I have fears of one of them falling in my food. But overall worth a try on the sheer food quality, not soon but will be back to try it in the future

Order at the counter from - so many burgers to choose from. They have wine and beer. All burgers are 1/4 pound half pork half beef. They have all beef-if you want. Delicious. And play area for kids.

The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is the service, which has been reliably subpar over the years. The area is quite spacious - with 3 main areas for dining, and its own parking lot which is fantastic. Even though I was tempted for a good time going in the evening --- or even the weekend --- I had a bunch of errands today and chose rather to go for breakfast when the amount of people is few and the environment is just overall more relaxed. I'm glad I did. For my meal I ordered just one thing the Bauern Schnitzel. This dish is described as a "breakfast specialty featuring a hand-breaded pork schnitzel topped with two eggs and hollandaise sauce. This German-Texan fusion dish is served daily during morning hours and comes with a biscuit alongside your choice of home fries, hash browns, grits, or black beans." Within minutes of my order being placed, my food came out in about 5 minutes -- not too shabby! As you can see from the photo, it looked very appealing. How was the taste? Simply filling and comforting. It was rich, stick to your bones grub that you want every so often. Hash browns were crisp, and the schnitzel was fried perfectly and topped with my over easy eggs. Everything simply worked in unison for a flavorful combination. The biscuit was also something to mention. It was homemade, fluffy, and not dry whatsoever! If I weren't such an introvert, I'd love to visit in the evenings --- as fun as this experience was this morning. The space is beautiful and definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

We went on a Monday night, so it's hard to say what the normal energy is like on a busier evening, but the overall atmosphere was still very pleasant. Service was friendly and attentive, which I appreciated. The only thing I would have loved was a little more creativity or guidance with the cocktails. The space gives the impression that you're about to get a true mixologist-style experience, but the recommendations we received were pretty standard, like Old Fashioneds and martinis. We were hoping for something a little more unique or original, maybe a twist on a Sidecar or an elevated take on a classic Old Fashioned. That said, it's still a beautiful spot with great ambience, pleasant service, and a very nice overall feel. I would definitely go back, especially on a busier night to see the full vibe.

Fortunately, if it can be considered fortunate, I had a total reverse shoulder replacement surgery a week before Thanksgiving this year. That gave me a "get out of kitchen" pass. We decided that Thanksgiving would be held at my son's house in New Braunfels. He and his wife have an 11.5 month old baby, so it's easier to do it there anyway. To simplify things, they shopped around, looking for a ready to serve, prepared Thanksgiving dinner. They selected the Black Whale because it was the most affordable, and they had heard good things about the place. The dinner package came with a turkey, gravy, dressing, mashed potatoes, greenbean casserole, and a pumpkin or pecan pie. They chose the pecan pie. When my daughter-in-law went to pick up the meal, the Black Whale had also thrown in a loaf of bread and a small loaf of cranberry cornbread. Altogether, they more than gave us our money's worth for this meal. Everything about the meal was good. The turkey was moist, juicy, and flavorful. I don't know how they cooked it or how they prepared it before cooking, but it definitely had flavor throughout. The dressing came in a little round foil pan and looked like some kind of rolls. It was absolutely delicious! It had a little bit of turkey meat in it that gave it a great mouth feel. But the seasoning was what really made it great. The mashed potatoes were very buttery and delicious, even though they were a little runnier than I like. The gravy over all of it was very good. I am not a very big fan of green bean casserole. I liked it back in the day when it first started showing up. But, after so many decades, I'm kind of over it. This was really delicious. It had lots of extra flavors in it. I'm pretty sure they used bits of ham. Since I am a boomer, the green beans could've been cooked a little bit more. My generation likes them cooked to death. I really don't remember my mother using fresh green beans for anything back in the day. I wish they had given us a much larger loaf of the cranberry cornbread. It was amazing. I had never tried a cornbread with fruit in it before. This was moist, sweet, and tart at the same time. The pecan pie was very good. I only wish I had had some whipped topping or vanilla ice cream to put on it. It could've been homemade. I don't think there's really much they could have done to make this a better Thanksgiving feast. Our family was very happy with it. Kudos to the Black Whale for a job well done!

This review is for other bands that might be thinking about playing at this venue…read more Directions: Finding the place from San Antonio is not difficult. Directions on the web appear to be accurate. From San Antonio, take I35N. Take the Rueckle Rd/337 exit and at the stop light go left across I35. Follow 337 until you see River Road. Turn left onto River Road and follow it until you see Bubba's on your right. Load-In: Load-in is not bad. Coming down River Road, there is a short driveway in front of the stage that you can pull off on to unload. It will take you up to the level of the stage (which is considerably above street height) and you can transfer your gear from there to the stage. Although most of the path is planked with wood, you will have to negotiate some steps to get everything onto the stage. Once you've completed unloading, you can move your vehicle on the driveway so that it's out of the sight lines from the stands across the street and just leave it in place. Stage: Bubba's stage is an unusual conformation. It's outdoors, located between the two main buildings and set right in front of a tall rock face. The stage is covered and protected from the sun except in the late afternoon, when stage right gets plenty of direct sunlight. In fact, the sun was so strong that gear on our pedalboard overheated and shut down. We found that directing a fan to blow directly on it solved that problem. The stage itself is two levels - a lower front platform about five feet deep and a higher rear platform slightly less deep. Stage right has an extension of the lower level out in front of it which we used to put the stage-right PA stacks on. There is no place to put the stage-left stacks except on the lower front platform. This significantly reduces the space for the band. As a three-piece band, however, we had no problem at all with fitting comfortably on the stage. The rear platform is perhaps two feet higher than the front platform and makes a nice drum riser. Our drummer had no problem putting his kit up there. The power situation is somewhat funky. There is an outlet hidden on stage right, but it has no power. There is a white outlet box on stage left with a single pair of outlets that have power. A duo might be able to run a small PA off this. We used it to run our PA tops and some of the stage gear. A mysterious extension cord was draped over the wall at stage left. Our bassist used this to power his gear. There are more outlets on the wall of the building off to the band's left. We used these to run the sub-woofer amps. Everything worked fine and we had no popped breakers during the gig. Be sure to bring extension cords. All outlets were grounded. Lighting: The venue has no stage lights. You will want to bring your own. Sound System: The club has no sound system, so you'll need to bring your own. We ran our entire system and had the unusual experience of being complemented by a number of folks who were pleased that we were loud enough to actually present a real rock experience. You need to understand that your audience is on the other side of River Road, at least 90 feet away so, if you're playing rock, a pair of 15" woofers and satellite tops on poles aren't going to cut it. Layout: The stage is located outdoors between the two main buildings on the side of the road opposite the river. Although there is an open, two-story, covered seating area across the road, it is not directly in front of the band. There is no seating in front of the band on the stage side of the road. The bar is in the large building to the band's left, so there is no problem with bartenders and waitresses being unable to hear orders because of the band. Volume: We were able to bring our volume up to what we considered a comfortable level for a classic rock band with no issues. Note that it took our entire 10,000 watt FOH system to do this. Comfort: This is outdoors, so there is no temperature control. There is no real windbreak for cold days. The stage is covered for summer use, but you will want to bring fans. Be aware that the rock face behind the stage is home for a number of insects, including bees and mosquitos. You will need insect repellent. Miscellaneous: We broadcasted this gig via Facebook Live and had trouble maintaining an Internet connection during the broadcast. Parking: Parking is along the street. Venue Management: Pleasant and easy to work with. We look forward to our next gig here. Overall: We had a very good gig. The crowd was enthusiastic and responsive. We are excited about the prospect of returning for another engagement.
