What a surprise! We enjoyed the food, ambiance and service tonight. The guacamole was fresh (although it could've used a lil salt), the chips crisp and all the salsas were amazing. We ordered carne asada tacos and fish tacos which were delicious. The corn tortillas fell apart a bit but we loved them regardless. Check out their frozen margaritas, strawberry or mango. They are smooth, fruity and not overpowered by the tequila even though you could tell they had a sufficient amount of liquor in them. For dessert, we ordered the churros that came with melted chocolate and Dulce de leche. They were just ok and much better when dipped in the sauces. My husband and I stopped here on a quick day trip to south beach. We walked in on a whim and did not regret it. Our waiter was so nice & helpful, the margaritas were huge and everything we got was amazing. We live in Ohio and usually do not travel past mid beach when in Miami but I would come back again especially for the birria tacos. Cute decor as well. Mexican food so good I don't know if I can go back to the mediocre offerings back home in Massachusetts. I didn't research this; just stumbled on it during my walk. A lucky outlier? I don't think so. My last 3 Mexican restaurants in Florida have all been 5 stars. For food I got the Tacos Gobernador: sautéed shrimp mixed with peppers, onions, cilantro, garlic, melted Mexican cheese, refried black beans, and avocado. A generous portion of medium shrimp, nicely charred, fresh, and sweet from a marinade. The raw thin sliced green peppers and the fried orange peppers added texture contrasts. The cheese and refried beans weren't excessive. The attention to detail was everywhere. Even the tortillas - corn - were lightly oiled and fried just right. Back home I might get one sauce, and if I ask they might bring out one more choice. Not here! 5 sauces brought to the table in individual bowls. I especially liked the super-hot serrano, garlic, and lime salsa which resembled wasabi in appearance only. I've never seen that one before. I found out from my waiter that all the sauces are made in house - not commercial bottles. I could have guessed, they all tasted so bright and fresh. He knew all the sauces well and described them with a passion I knew was authentic. The tacos also came with the usual refried beans and rice. I was too full and didn't even try them. I should have got a take-home box but I was walking so I didn't My mocktail - a virgin Pineapple Jalapeño Margarita - was excellent, with pineapple juice, fresh squeezed lime juice, agave, and very spicy from the peppers. Garnished with charred pineapple and served in a large jar with lots of ice. Priced at about 2/3 that of a real margarita which seems acceptable because it was so good. The drinks choices were numerous and intriguing. 6 margaritas, 4 specialty mocktails, 4 mezcal cocktails, and 14 premium mezcals! Many beers, beer cocktails, tequila popsicles, and a huge tequila list! Sadly I couldn't linger over drinks that day, tempting as it was. read more

Walked along the beach side, this was one of the restaurants there! They have these cool overhead lights with orange lighting, as well as fans which when paired with the wind give a nice airflow the whole time. There is a candle and salt and pepper on each table, and there are both brown circular tables and light brown square tables both wood with colorful seating. Mexican music plays at all time and the appetizer came out really quick! The nachos looked great, a ton of stuff on them such as pico de gallo, guacamole, refried beans, sour cream. It's an amazing mix but there is a slight lack of guacamole, not too much that we'd run out too quick but definitely not enough for all the nachos and we had to ration. The server was great and quick, refilled our water and got our orders quick so no complaints there! It was 17 before tax and tip so a little expensive I'd say it falls into the tourist trap but honestly worth it for the appetizers. read more

This place is a tourist trap! It was loud, service was awful and food was underwhelming, but you also get to watchnpeople walking by. Pretty bad except for 1) a taco with fried pork, and only the fried pork itself was good and 2) the chips that came with the guacamole were good like the fried chips you get with hot and sour soup at Chinese restaurants. The guac itself was unimpressive, but again, liked the chips, but the sauces that came with the guac were good, especially the habanero. Otherwise, had fajitas which were passable. I popped in to catch the National Championship college football game. It was one of few bars in South Beach that had tvs showing the game (I actually love this, there's so much more to do). The service from the bartenders was friendly and prompt. I'm a white wine drinker and I love how an Albariño makes the list, just like a Pinot Grigio or Sav Blanc. Wine pours in Miami are noticeably smaller than usual (5-6 ozs) and will run you $15+. But "you're in Miami bitch!" The guacamole was just ok- texture was too creamy and it was over salted. The chicken tacos the people shared next to me smelled great. It is advertised as "beachfront," but this is not true. They were beyond oily, the peppers and onions were just drenched in oil and was honestly not edible. The steak quality on fajitas is always lower grade but this was another level of junk grade meat. All would be forgiven if on the value end of pricing but bc of tourist location it wasn't cheap. Anyways if you wanted a plate of nachos with a couple margs or cold beers in south beach then enjoy but don't go if hungry and wanting tasty Mexican. read more

A great place to stop for some Mexican food! As a native San Diegan, I would say they have great options and marinate and cook their meat really well! My friend and I definitely enjoyed our lunch! I had a spicy watermelon lemonade and my friend had a coke. The best coke too! My lemonade was perfectly spicy. I originally wanted the Birria tacos but our kind server mentioned it was going to be very small and offered the Birria quesadilla without cheese instead. The Birria dipping broth was absolutely delicious and I'm so glad it came with the quesadilla and side of onions. My friend had the Mexican bowl and it was pretty good. Plenty of food for sure! As expected, items are expensive compared to away from the beach including serving size. I came with my family. We had some drinks (Oh Mexico margarita, tamarindo, and bottled Coke). All good drinks but the margarita was almost $30! That was nuts to find out later. The nachos appetizer was very tasty. We added carne which was cooked nicely. The flautas de pollo, crispy fish tacos, tacos de carne, tacos gobernador, and service were pleasing. We came around 11:30 AM and it was fairly empty for the outside seating. The ambience was perfect because the music wasn't too loud, it wasn't crowded, and we had a sunny, shaded, and breezy day. The hostess and servers were very nice and easy to talk to. Keep in mind, a 20% gratuity is likely already added, so avoid giving a double tip if you don't mean to. It'll be on the receipt. We came on Taco Tuesday which has good deals but we didn't come during the 3 Pm - 7 PM timeframe. I would definitely recommend this place but make sure you know you're paying more because of the location and not because of some spectacular food. The food IS good though and you will enjoy it but the serving size will disappoint you if you're hungry! Lastly, the bathroom was VERY clean. That is a big deal to me! I don't know if there is any correlation to cleanliness of bathroom to kitchen but seeing that everything that customers can see and use are very well maintained, it's a bonus for me!
