To say I deeply despise this woman would be an understatement. I am writing this review so that other grieving pet parents can protect themselves and their beloved animals during their final moments. My experience with this vet was completely devoid of the compassion, dignity, and professional ethics one expects when saying goodbye to a pet. During the in-home euthanasia of my dog, her demeanor was impatient and cold, bringing a palpable negative energy to a deeply sacred moment. During his final breaths, she delivered an inappropriate, bizarre speech that offered no comfort. Most horrifyingly, shortly after my dog passed, she lifted his body by his tail. This was a shocking display of disrespect to a deceased animal and an utterly heartbreaking thing for a grieving family to witness. The financial handling of this situation was equally predatory. I was quoted $625 for the euthanasia/transport and $600 as a deposit for a third-party cremation. After she left, I had to ask her four separate times over 24 hours just to get the name of the crematorium. Upon researching the facility she used, I found terrible reviews and immediately informed her I would be transporting my dog myself and requested a refund for the $600 cremation fee. Rather than refunding the amount for a service she never provided, she withheld $425 of my money, retroactively claiming it was for "services rendered in good faith." She never provided an itemized receipt upfront, never disclosed any non-refundable policies, and has refused to send legal documentation or an invoice since. As a result of her predatory practices to pocket more money than she was rightfully owed for her services, I have now paid over $2k total to move his cremation to a respectable facility. I do not doubt for a moment that Elisabeth chooses this questionable facility specifically to increase her profits, thereby grossly misrepresenting the cost of her services vs cremation. She takes advantage of grieving families at their most vulnerable. She was cold and unhelpful during billing concerns. Between the utter lack of respect for my pet's body and the deceptive billing practices, I cannot warn people away from this practitioner strongly enough. A complaint has been filed with the Veterinary Medical Board, and I will pursue every possible avenue to hold her accountable for taking advantage of people. read more

I called Dr. Carlson regarding potential of needing to put my dog down in the future due to osteosarcoma. Her tone of voice was as if she was scolding me for not amputating my dogs leg which my wife and were leaning towards not doing as we expected a difficult recovery only allowing a few extra months of life while our dog seems to be feeling alright in the moment. She has not seen or examined my dog. I respect and value insight from anyone about the situation especially a veterinarian but her tone of voice was rude and condescending. read more

We ended up calling Dr Carlson on a Wednesday morning when my mother's large dog was showing signs of fast decline. Because the dog is 80 plus pounds and not very mobile, getting her to a vet was not easy or advisable. Luckily Dr Carlson was going to be in our area in the afternoon and we booked her. She was professional, compassionate, caring and peaceful. She made a very stressful time for Willow and our family as calm as possible. Dr. Carlson is an empathetic professional. I was unfortunate enough to need her services to say goodbye to my 16 year old cat with little notice. She was honest and up front about her costs, and extra fees due to the late time I was calling. She allowed me to say goodbye to my baby in the comfort of my home, where my baby could be as comfortable as possible, surrounded by her loved ones instead of the unfamiliar tech of an emergency room. Dr. Carlson was kind, gentle, and reverent in helping me and my family end my kitten's suffering in the softest possible way. I wish I could give Dr. Carlson the biggest hug. I had been using another in home euth. place that I've been happy with for 30 years but my sweet senior dog needed a same day appointment, so I was referred to Dr. Carlson and she was able to take me late in the evening (thank goodness). She came in a short time and just her demeanor, confidence, and the fact that she's a straight shooter made me feel at ease, instant trust. I needed somebody to just take the wheel and she delivered. The process went as smooth as it possibly could given the situation at hand, she was a true pro who lets you know exactly what is happening so you can just be in the moment with your pet. I came home from work the other day and my boy's remains were beautifully packaged and waiting on my doorstep. I checked my doorbell and she left the sweetest message and again, she just has a vibe that is so comforting. When I opened the package, I was shook at how beautiful everything was! Paw prints, nose prints, fur clipping, and the most beautiful urn with Angus' name on it. There was also a certificate of his cremation, and a very nice card. Dr. Carlson, if you read this, THANK YOU! I will never forget you and thank you so much for helping Angus. I needed to put my 24 yo cat down and while this was not my first such experience, it was by far the best. Dr. Elizabeth Carlson was professional, kind, and, daring I say, loving in her words and actions. My little kitty was "with me" and happy while she slowly fell asleep on my shoulder. I was comfortable with Dr. Carlson despite my tears and she was respectful. She had the right gentle words to say at the right time. In fact, I would say that it really could not have gone any better. Different than my prior euthanasia experience: - Dr. Carlson made sure that my tiny kitty was still cognizant after the first shot so we could bond. With my other cat/vet, I did not have that opportunity contrary to my expectation - the cat was OUT immediately. - She added lidocaine to help numb the injection spot so that the injection was not painful. That added step makes a BIG difference to a tiny cat vein. - She assured me of the quality of the paw print momento. My other cat's print didn't even have claw marks and was smushed sideways. It makes me annoyed to look at it. While I have not received her print, I know that it will be of the same caliber as Dr. Carlson's other services. Considering that this was a day I will never forget and the difficulty in coming to this decision, I would hire Dr. Carlson again without hesitation. read more

Two weeks prior to our family vacation, our boy was not feeling well. Home vet diagnosed with possibly inflamed spleen. Treated and he was on the mend. Playing happily the day before our vacation. But we were cautious and attending to possible symptom return. Sunday, the first day of vacation he would be weak, but then would be ok. Ate, drank, walked, wagged. But 4:00 am took him to Portland ER - suddenly weak again, unable to walk. Arrive at ER, he perked up again. We were surprised and shocked to learn he had progressed/metastatic lung cancer. The vet there suggested euthanasia same day but said he could possibly be comfortable for a while with meds. I asked for a list of home-hospice-euthanasia services. We called four places with toll-free answering services. Each said they did not service Cannon beach 70 miles away. I was losing hope and felt I was faced with having to euthanize our boy before the ER's next shift change in one hour. Then a new google search revealed Dr. Carlson. She answered the phone, warmly, kindly. I could barely speak. She gently offered condolences while I was struggling to processing my thoughts. She spoke with the ER vet, took my contact info and reached out to me right away, so that we could stay in contact. There was a choice on her schedule of Tues or Friday for our service area. We hoped for Friday. She took my texts and calls while I was processing my decision. With good humor and professionalism, she said he should make it to Friday - explaining how to administer the meds and why/how they will keep him comfortable. She said the Tuesday appt was still available if I changed my mind, and that was around noonish. Middle of night, early Tuesday morning it was clear he was not going to make it to Friday. I dreaded the thought of having to take him anywhere in a car, especially over an hour on a windy road. Hoping the Tues appt was still available, I reached out Tuesday morning at 6:00 and asked if Tues was still available. She said she could make it happen. My relief was palpable. She arrived at her predicted time, joined us on the deck, and let us stay with him. She administered the first dose to sedate and gave us space and time. It took him a while, but he rested his head within the time expected. She administered the second dose and said a few words to him and gave us all the space and time we needed to say goodbye. I couldn't imagine doing this truly meaningful work with an unpredictable schedule and profound grief every day; and I am a licensed health care provider. I'm lucky, I work on a schedule in an office. The second I heard Dr. Carlson's voice, the calm set in. The second we met, I knew we were OK, and that my boy had the best, safest, most loving bus-driver to his next destination. Thank you Dr. Carlson for your love, care, professionalism. Dr. Carlson was cold, calloused and extremely unprofessional. I deeply regret using this service and wish that we had done our homework. I am appreciative that my dog is no longer in pain and that Dr. Carlson came on short notice, but our experience with Dr. Carlson was truly awful. When she came to the door, she was clearly in a hurry and was very unfriendly. Worse, she rushed us through the paperwork (which was very unclear) and brushed aside our questions. As my wife was trying to say goodbye to our beloved pet, Dr. Carlson was rushing to inject him and I politely asked that she wait just a few seconds until my wife was out of the room because she did not want to see it. Dr. Carlson proceeded to try to give the shot until I sternly told her to stop, which she finally did, though she was very clearly irritated. She asked if we wanted a paw print of our dog, and we said yes. She said it would be included for the $900 we paid, but we did not receive it. When I called her about it a couple weeks later, she blamed my wife for the mistake and claimed that my wife told her she did not want any mementos, which is untrue.
