Sofie became ill quite suddenly with acute internal bleeding from an unknown source which made it difficult for me to see her suffering. On the outside, Sofie just looked tired, but on the inside, there was really something broken and unrepairable. There is a reason why EVERY review is 5 stars - this place and these people are phenomenal! They are true animal lovers - caring about their craft and patients (pets and people). Dr. Dillon and Jenn are my primaries, and finding an in-home vet is a huge relief. It puts our anipals at ease, and to watch Dr. Dillon and Jenn play with our pets like they're their own is magical. I honestly find the prices to be very good - you pay a small premium to have them in your home, but they spend oodles of time to ensure your pets are healthy and happy. They were with us when we had to euthanize our elderly cat - it's a terrible decision to have to make, but Dr. Dillon and Jenn were with us every step of the way. Answering questions, going over options and prognoses, and even shedding tears with us. They were respectful, tactful, and comforting in the most harrowing of times of being an animal's person. Today Dr Mesher and her technician helped me euthanize my 11 year old previously feral cat named Genie. They made a very emotional process easier with their professional and compassionate approach. Dr Mesher spoke with me at length on the phone when I was trying to make a decision about my cat's future. I felt very heard and I also felt that she had my cat's best interest in the forefront of her mind. We started having both our cats seen by At Home Veterinary Services because of Genie's anxiety and fearfulness..it was nearly impossible to get her in a carrier and bring her to a vet's office. While you pay more for the home visit, it is just lovely to have the pets seen in their own environment. Dr. Mesher and her staff have been great from our first experience. In October we had just moved cross country and had 2 dogs with what we thought might be bad ear infections the day we arrived - Dr. Louise fit us in that day not wanting our pets to suffer needlessly. Since then she's been caring for all 3 of our dogs who range in age from puppy to almost 15! Dr. Mesher was also great about coordinating care with DoveLewis when our oldest needed surgery recently. She's up to speed on the latest treatments and offered us some arthritis options that our previous vets in Chicago didn't even tell us about. It has made a huge difference in the quality of life for our pets. Dr. Mesher is amazing. My husband and I recently moved back to Portland, we were in search of a good at home vet for our oldest kitty. We set an appointment window and right on time, Dr. Mesher and her assistant were at our home. She was attentive, answered all our questions and helped us prepare for a very difficult decision that was going to be approaching. When the time came to put our kitty to sleep, we called Dr. Mesher. She was able to come to our home within 24 hours, but gave us the name and number of another doctor incase the situation worsened in the middle of the night. It was an incredibly hard thing to do, but we knew it was her time. Dr. Mesher was compassionate and very sensitive to the situation. I would highly recommend her services. For our two cats, it doesn't get better than Dr. Mesher, Dr. Dillon, the assistants, husband Ryan and everyone we've had the pleasure to meet or talk to affiliated with this incredible practice! Our older cat Callie is having major chronic issues, and I find the care she's receiving has her in better and more comfortable health than while being treated by a highly respected specialist in San Diego County before moving to Portland. Callie was wasting away in front of our eyes with severe pancreatitis and inflammatory bowel disease. Of course those conditions still exist, but her pain is managed so well that she's playful and affectionate, and she's put on 1-1/2 lbs, losing that "skeleton with fur" look that scared us to see happening. On top of first-rate medical care, we've never met more compassionate and caring vets and staff in all the years we've been adopting and caring for cats. Honestly, I feel more like a friend than a client. As long as this practice exists, we will be loyal clients. And we'll continue to recommend them to anyone looking for a vet they can trust with their furry (or not so furry) loved ones. read more

I have been using At Home Veterinary Services for 2 years to care for our 3 adult cats. At Home Vet is wonderful! Our primary vet is Dr. Heather Dillon. One of our cats was 19+ years old, had kidney disease and was very frail at the end of his life. She took excellent care of him and he lived a very long time in spite of his medical issues. Our other two cats have been getting excellent care as well. Dr. Dillon is very knowledgeable and thorough as well as very kind and compassionate. I really appreciate that she works so well with us (the humans) and with our cats to understand and respond to our needs and concerns. She listens to us carefully and respects our wishes but also gives us several options to help us make the right decisions. My 19 yr old Gabriel hated interventions, in spite of the fact that he needed them. We developed a reasonable care plan (mostly giving him weekly fluids at home) which maintained him without doing more than he could tolerate. He had a great life and enjoyed it fully until he just gave out, became weak and had trouble breathing. Dr. Dillon was very honest with me about what could happen if we did not euthanize him. I am grateful for her directness along with much compassion and empathy. He passed peacefully in my arms the way he would have wanted. The staff at At Home Veterinary is also great and I have always found it easy to make appointments and to get medications filled quickly. Having veterinary care at home is so much better (especially for older cats) than taking them to a facility. I highly recommend At Home Veterinary Services. read more

At Home Vet Services provide extremely compassionate care. On the advice of a friend, I called with the heart wrenching question that no pet owner ever wants to face, "When is the right time?" The person on the phone was very understanding and guided me through the conversation with grace and compassion, and offered to send vets out for an end-of-life assessment. By the time they came, I knew it was the right time, and Dr. Leddy and her assistant were wonderful. My dog could not have had a more comfortable and loving end in his own bed on my lap with his beloved human friends around him. I can't say enough praise for At Home Veterinary services. Our cat was diagnosed with cancer and we had to make the heartbreaking decision to end her suffering. We wanted the end to come as peacefully as possible for her and didn't want to have to go travel to our normal vet, which always freaked her out. Tisha and Rachel came to our house and talked to us for awhile about our options. They gave our cat a gentle exam and told us they agreed with our decision that it was time for her to go. They were both very sympathetic and gave us as much time as we needed with her. When it was time they gave her a sedative first and she went peacefully resting on her normal spot on the bed. ***PLEASE SEE MY REPLY TO DR MESHER'S 7/21/17 COMMENTS AT END OF MY REVIEW*** First off I would ask you if you feel you really need in home care. If you have a large animal who is not mobile or a frail animal this is great. It can also be more stressful to some animals as they feel invaded in their safe space - their home. And this care is much more costly. I added At Home to my dogs medical team as he had a complicated medical case and to establish service for in home assessment and eventual euthanasia. I was assigned Dr. Mesher as she is the owner and has the highest experience with complicated cases. She was available a few days a week but also busy with training and running her business. There are other doctor's available but I tried to stay with her as much as possible with the history. As time went by I needed additional internal med support for a cancer drug Dr. Mesher was not familiar with. She wanted another exam although we were current and I told her the next exam needed to be with the new internal doctor to investigate this drug option, and that she would be next. She was not happy with this. She also took issue with questioning on a drug prescribed dosage where I simply relayed what a couple other opinions were. The fact is my dog was highly sensitive to it. I received long emails that were emotional and defensive. It was off base and a professional phone call would have cleared the issue. I blind copied another vet who felt as I did with her tone. With this, her opinion of my use of other vets, and that she felt I was not using them $enough$, she wrote another long email and resigned us. They would not even refill a last prescription. We were current, paid our bills, and supportive and complimentary of her and her services. The end result was my dog did end up with a medical need and I had no one to come to our home and medically assess him on a Sunday. I had to take him to a specialist the next morning where we had to end up letting him go there. Not the lower stress and less suffering he deserved and why I had added At Home for his care. Compassionate AND professional are crucial attributes in this profession; especially with working with animals in challenged conditions. No room for ego's & attitudes - the animals care should be the priority. It was not the case here, and my dog paid the price for this. I would highly advise you thoroughly investigate other options for your companion(s). **** 7/21/17 **** UPDATE IN RESPONSE TO DR MESHER'S COMMENTS: Dr. Mesher, I wrote you a personal letter June 16th notifying you of Rusty's passing on May 22nd, so you have known of his passing for some time without response. You have now discovered the Yelp review on July 21st. Thank you for your public condolences and compliments on my care and compassion for Rusty. Phone and email consultation is compensated. I did understand and agreed to adhere to your demand of no further advice/assistance until an additional exam. That would have happened; however the fact is you went further and decided you felt best to resign us from any and all future services. That included a refill on a prescription needed. That left us in a very tough place and ultimately we had no one to come to our home that weekend to access him. *** Your resignation of all services at this stage with his issues and condition compromised our ability to let him go softly without suffering.*** read more

I was in shock when Dr. Posey and Rachel came to my home. My emotional support animal/cat had only been sick for 3 weeks and yet in that time, she had been diagnosed with Lymphoma, and now she was dying. A few months before her diagnosis she had been in to see our vet, and she had been fine. In fact, her blood work was perfect. Now she was leaving me. Dr. Posey and Rachel felt like sisters as they comforted me, and took such gentle care of Lottie. I have never had this experience as I've never bonded with an animal because of mental health disorders. Lottie was my first and I loved her. In that same regard, I have never loved a pet until they passed away. It was so painful yet I was so grateful to have this team of women here. They were professional, they offered advice but not in a pushy way, and hugged me when they left, taking Lottie with them. She was gone, and they helped me to let her go. read more

I LOVE Dr.Mesher and At Home Veterinary services! I first discovered her about 5-6 years ago and was so very happy to find a vet who would come to the house because getting my cats to the vet had become traumatic for my cats as well as for me...They are able to do just about anything except surgery..blood work,thorough exams etc all done in the comfort of your home..so much less stressful for your pets and so much less stressful for me! I have an old sick dog who is essentially "dying" of kidney failure..however under Dr.Mesher's care( and tutelage of me on how to care for him...).he is still doing well, is happy and I really was prepared for his demise a few months ago..and yet he is doing well and as long as he has a good quality of life I'll just keep on doing what Dr.Mesher advises me to do....they arrive on time..when I have a question I email them and always get a reply quickly...They are wonderful and I have and will continue to reccomend them to everyone I know who has a pet! read more

This is my second and, for a while, last review of the service, compassion and care we have received from this amazing group of people. Saying good-bye is one of the most difficult parts of having pets as our companions and I can't imagine having to go through what we've been through without the wonderful support and guidance we received from everyone at At Home Veterinary Services.. We said farewell to our sweet loving 16 year old kitty Sabrina in September, 2014, our dear wonderful kitty 17 year old Romeo in December, 2014 and then the ham of all hams super special 15 year old kitty Taffy 10 days ago. Our hearts are aching right now and it feels like they will never heal but we know eventually they will. Dr. Posey has been so compassionate along the way and ached right along with us as we made our agonizing decisions to do what was best for each one and send them on their way to feel healthy and pain free again. We appreciate everyone who has taken care of us on the phone, via email, in person and lastly in writing in their sweet condolence card we received after each one has crossed over the rainbow bridge. I contacted this team one morning when I thought my almost two year old cat had a bladder infection...no big deal...or so I thought. An appointment was set for that very afternoon. Shortly after that phone call Angie called me back to ask a few more questions. She had a suspicion that the problem was more serious than I had thought. She arranged for Dr Posey and herself to arrive earlier than planned, just to be safe. Sure enough, my cat had a severe urinary blockage, immediately life threatening. And Angie had deduced that from the scattered information I had been giving her over the phone. The two of them manually (with a needle and syringe) removed as much urine from the bladder as possible and gave him a shot of pain medicine to make his trip to the emergency clinic as least excruciating as possible. When we reached the emergency clinic and the surgeons and vets assessed my cat they were floored at the level of intuition and compassion Dr Posey and Angie demonstrated. They sang their praises and assured me I had contacted the exact right team. As if this level of technical expertise isn't enough, every single member of this team seems to be some sort angel sent from heaven. As Dr Posey and Angie left my house that day they both hugged me. They did not hand me a bill and march out my door to their next appointment. They were warm and soft and kind and they hugged me. Not only are they some sort of animal whisperers they also instinctively know how to soothe and care for us humans in the picture. It is so crystal clear that these people aren't just "doing their job". They genuinely love and care for all of us and that is something that cannot be learned in college or at an internship. It's just a quality that is a part of them. Rest assured, if you give them a call they will take as much time as YOU need discussing your situation on the phone. They will arrive at your home on time, fully equipped to care for your furry friend. They will get down on the floor with your pet and cuddle and comfort them. And they will not leave until they are certain your pet, and you, are taken care of the the fullest extent. But they won't be finished with you after they leave! They will call or email you shortly after their visit, to chat and make sure everyone is happy and healthy. No more frightening drives to the clinic. No more cold, hard metal exam tables. No more strange sounds or smells. Just soft, warm, loving hands and hearts to soothe and heal. What a beautiful gift! read more

I am thrilled!! My 23 pound cat, Armani, turns feral when you try to put him in a carrier. People have been hurt in the past and I am just not that into fighting him anymore. When I asked my regular vet at Fremont Veterinary Clinic (4 stars as well!!) who they would recommend for a house-call vet they said hands down Dr Louise Mecher with At Home Vet. The funny thing is, I had put her business card in my pocket when I was at a West Linn pet store. Armani had horrible mats on his back that had joined each other to become a helmet of sorts. I was not able to shave him without sedation and he burns through sedation like no other!! Dr. Heather Dillon and her assistant showed up at my door right on time. They were able to professionally assess the situation, give Armani an exam, many treats, and finally a few different sedation shots that he, yes, burned right through. However, the final sedation shot worked a little bit better and with her assistant holding him down at his shoulders, Dr Dillon was able to successfully shave all those horrible mats off. She was so gentle and caring to both myself and Armani -- as well as my other silly cats. She gave me several hugs. She even called later that night to check on how Armani was doing!! I LOVE THIS VET!!! I no longer fear not being able to take Armani to the vet .. they will come to me with compassion and professionality. read more

I had to have my beloved cat put to sleep recently. After many vet visits for tests, I didn't want to put him through any more stress. Dr. Mesher and her assistant Jen came to our home and did everything while he slept on my lap. At Home Vet is the best. Thanks to two needy dogs, we've worked with everyone on the staff many times, including the substitutes! The kindness they've shown to our pets and to us through the years has been amazing (it wasn't until working with At Home Vet that I realized the best vets take care of more than just the furry members of the family). They know their stuff, arrive on time, and are always willing to go the extra mile in terms of follow-up care and communication. Plus, they are so sweet to the pets! With At Home Vet's help, our chocolate lab lived to be 16 years old comfortably and happily right down to her last breath, something I will always be thankful for. These days, they're helping us with our rescue beagle who arrived with a multitude of issues. Once again, they've put together an excellent plan for her health and well-being, and once again, we realize just how much we love these people. Even more importantly- so do our pets.
