Great for the best deal, do be prepared as they are not located right on airport so their personal shuttle can be delayed or held up on other task. During our pick up back to the airport upon return we had to wait 15min but I can see why when there was only one staff member working. Their office is shared with another company who is very rude, they tried not letting us use the restroom when we are customers of Ohana. Sadly there was no options for upgrades due to availability. read more

I'm happy I decided to go with Ohana. I called and booked directly with Hana, the manager, who was happy to take the time to explain the process to me over the phone. The morning we landed at OGG I texted Ohana and Tyler (also great) arrived very quickly in a van to pick us up. Our car (VW Jetta) was clean and drove well. I would give them a six on a 5-point scale. Although they are closed on a Sunday they made arrangements for me to pick up the car outside of their business on Sunday morning. It was very simple. Return was also very easy. They are located about a mile or so from the ship docking on Uber was around $8. The Volkswagen Jetta was a very very good car, clean with about 14,000 mi on it. Bottom Line: The best place to rent a car on Maui. I rent cars though Avis monthly and always get good service from them but I am sure that Ohana Rent A Car has the best service I've ever had at a car rental agency! For starters, the staff is friendly, communicative and responsive. Tori reached out to me just hours after I made my reservation to make sure I was ok with being upgraded to a SUV. And Tyler reached out to us letting us know where to meet him at the airport. Getting picked up by Tyler, who is very welcoming and conversational, was a wonderful start to our time in Maui. First time booking my car rental from a local company vs Hertz gold service. I was a little hesitant at first since I have heard many stories about friends of mine who have had poor experience when renting from a local or private company. In short, if I could give these guys 10 stars I would with out hesitation! As soon as we landed in Maui, I had a text message on my phone with really simple directions. They picked us up at the airport which was really convenient and the SUV we requested was completely clean inside and out! Very impressed! 99% of the time when renting from Hertz the car is dirty or poorly cleaned. That was completely the opposite experience with Ohana! You can tell is a well managed business since it showed in the quality of the car, their attention to having it freshly cleaned, and by the professionalism of their employees. For $30 drop off fee you can drop the car off at the airport and they will send someone to come pick it up! That made the check out process so easy and simple especially when traveling with a large family! I will never go back to Hertz after My experience with Ohana. Their top notch service, high quality vehicles and their attention to details far surpasses that of any National car rental company. Did I mention that they are also less expensive!!! What!!!! I can not say enough about Ohana rent a car. We are just a couple of honey mooning tourists, but Tyler made us feel so welcome. He showered us in praise and congratulations for our recent wedding and answered all questions regarding his little town. He was responsive as soon as we got off the plane and was ready to get us with in minutes. Although the service was much more efficient than the last car that we rented from dollar in Maui, this car is filled with mini cockroaches and there are no USB plugs in the vehicle. Why would a rental car in this day and age not be equipped with USB ports, especially for people traveling that want to utilize their GPS. read more

I had a really easy experience renting with Ohana. They stayed in touch leading up to my arrival and picked me up right at the airport after waiting for me to pick up my luggage at baggage claim. They had me on the road in less than 10 minutes after pick up. The car was very new and very clean which is impressive after seeing what a car can look like after 8 trips to the beach. Beware of unprofessionalism here. I booked their black suburban more than 2 months before arrival. A week before the date they gave me a call and said the car had an accident and isn't available anymore. I was given the options of a soccer mom car and a 15 passenger van without any discount. We picked the van but at the airport we were welcomed by our soccer mom car anyway. We ended up not changing the car as it would be at least an additional hour of wait. Going from a luxury suv to a soccer mom car and paying the same amount isn't ok, bringing the wrong car is completely unacceptable. Unfortunately dealing with these people didn't end here. The lady working at Ohana called me non stop after we returned the car complaining they can't find the car at the airport. Turns out she gave me the wrong number to text after we parked the car. We made a reservation prior to our trip to Maui. The following day we received a call from the Ohana office stating that: 1) the vehicle that we chose during our online reservation was unavailable 2) they were unsure if they were going to be available to pick us up from the airport being that our flight arrived at 6:30 am. The secretary who called to inform us of all of this stated that she would call us back to confirm a pick up time and what cars would be available for our picking. Unfortunately, we never received a call back. I called the office and left a voicemail days prior and received no call back. Today is the day of travel, and still nothing. I would avoid due to my experience. They are located 20+ minuets from the airport, they charge $20 each way for pick up and drop off to the airport, and they clearly have no regard to the importance of follow up or customer service.. read more

The best experience renting a car. I rented thought the internet and got information by email. Then was emailed by the owner for more information. I gave all my documents through email. When I arrived, they dropped my car off to me in Kahului. If you rent a car for a week of longer, they can pick you up and drop you off at the airport. We met in the parking lot of Target (because if was more convenient for me) and did a walk through. It was the fastest and most convenient way to rent that I have ever experienced. The owner, Sandy, was the coolest person to talk with. We returned our car in and she dropped us off at the airport. No Lines! No Long Paperwork! No issues at all! I was the Meeting Planner for a group of about 40 guests who visited Maui recently. Not all of them needed rental cars, but the ones who did needed them on various dates for varying lengths of time. Sandee was phenomenal! There were several logistics to manage; several moving parts and pieces to our group. She ensured that all of our guests received VIP service from the time she brought the cars to them to the time they dropped them off. First, the good. Tyler at Ohana Rent A Car was great. He picked us up and dropped us off at the airport, gave recommendations for the island, and was critical in making a situation better after a terrible day stranded on the road to Hana. That terrible day turned into a nightmare when the new manager, Tori "didn't feel like dealing with it" when the police called her to help us. We were on the beautiful, but dangerous drive on the road to Hana when our Jeep began taking a while to start or not starting at all. Then, the security system wouldn't let the car start leaving us stranded on a road with no cell service and an alarm going off for five minutes at a time. With no cell service, I had to walk 2 miles on a road that is only wide enough for one car in many places, to the nearest emergency call box. When I reached the police via the call box, and told them that I had rented through Ohana, they called Ohana, and then got back to me with what was the worst thing I could have heard. "I'm sorry sir, the manager at Ohana Rent A Car says she doesn't have any numbers with her (It was before 5pm on a Thursday, but Tori had left the office early) and you'll have to call the Emergency Roadside Assistance listed on the rental agreement." There was no emergency number listed on the agreement, and when I told them that, and they got back to Tori, the police told me that Tori said she wasn't able to do anything because she insisted I would have to talk to the 3rd party vendor handling the roadside assistance. The police told me they were really sorry, and they could send a car to check on us, but they've never had a manager of a rental car business abandon their renters in an emergency. I made my way back to the car, with several close calls from tourists driving too fast on curvy roads. Thankfully, as it was dark now, the jeep finally started again, and we got back on the road. When we had cell service again, I called the police to let them know we were okay, and they said that Tori felt bad after abandoning us, and she could arrange a tow truck now. I appreciate that Tori felt bad, but risking getting hit by cars to make your way to an emergency call box, and then getting told there's nothing the rental car company can do is unacceptable. Her attitude was unacceptable, and her actions were the worst thing that could have happened during an emergency. I was told by an employee of Ohana that Tori said she didn't feel like dealing with it when the police called her. When I did finally speak to Tori, she blamed the police. She said, "It was their fault because she said they weren't cooperating with me, and that's why I couldn't help you." That really didn't make sense, and made the situation worse because it was obvious she was trying to cover up her mistake of not wanting to deal with an emergency situation. I realize Tori is a new employee, and I can only imagine the hard work from other employees that have resulted in many great reviews of Ohana Rent a Car. If you choose to rent from Ohana, make sure that Tori isn't handling your rental agreement, or that you have cell numbers of other employees if there is an emergency. Maui is incredible, and Tori didn't ruin our vacation, but I'm definitely renting from another company if Tori is still working there. read more

Born and raised on Oahu it was refreshing to see a local company competing and in my opinion, doing better than the the better known "Big Boyz". Customer service was second to none. Met us at the airport w/the Nissan Quest. Having 4 kids and not having to stand in line...winnahs! Van was clean, smelled good, and in solid condition.
