I can't recommend these guys enough. I always prefer renting from small local car rental companies and Kihei did not disappoint. Our first time on the island and we got a shuttle pick up that was there when we were, air conditioned, and playing curated songs to get us into the aloha mood. Also, I shopped around with the big guys and other locals and Kihei had the best rates. I actually prefer an older car as it makes me look like a local and means less chance of a car break in. Car was in good shape, got me about 36 mpg, and had working AC a radio, and a key fob. All the things I needed and they saved me over $200 from the big name guys. The car had I had was a 2016 Nissan Sentra and it had its dents and dings and definitely used but ran like a champ. Zero issues! Getting the car and returning it was such a quick process and no upsells plus they let my spouse drive for no additional cost. Next time I come back I'm using these guys again. The staff were so kind from the start -- I got lost at the airport on day one, called them, and they patiently directed me right to where I needed to go. The shuttle to and from OGG was super easy and convenient. My car was a 2015 Nissan Sentra. It ran great, got awesome mileage, and the trunk was surprisingly big. The exterior had some sun spots and it wasn't spotless inside but it's a 10 year old car in Hawaii, which totally fit the base price. Mid‑trip a check engine light came on, I called, and they reassured me it was nothing urgent and talked me through it. Returning the car was quick and simple. $204 for 7 days! Rented a 2018 Nisson Sentra. Car was decent condition and performed well. No strange odor and interior was clean. A/C worked great. Pricing was the best that we could find. The cars are not located at the airport. The company picks you and your luggage up from the airport with other people renting vehicles from them. It was less than a 20 minute ride to the rental lot. This was a small inconvenience considering the price for the rental. They had us in and out quickly. I will be renting from them again on the next trip. read more

This is the way to go if you want peace of mind while driving on the island. We rented an older little Nissan Sentra. We never had to worried if it would get broken into, because it just looked like every other car on the road. It ran well and got us up the Road to Hana easily. The roads up there are narrow and we saw many a Jeep struggling to stay in their lane without scraping the sides, while we had no such problems. Renting was also easy. For a small fee, they dropped the car at the airport for us, leaving the key in a lock box. We simply walked out into the parking lot and got online as if we'd left our own car there. Dropping off was equally easy, and with less stress. No hurrying to empty the car while an attendant waited impatiently. They do have shuttle service to Kihei if you'd rather do a traditional pick up/drop off, but for us, the convenience was totally worth it. Great family owned rental car business with great prices and will pick you up & drop you off at the airport. As long as your flight lands before 10pm, they can still pick you up. They are about a 25 minute drive from the airport, so not far at all. The shuttle drivers can also give yoy some good tips on must see spots and things to do. If you are local (state ID) they offer kama'aina rate too! Whoo hoo, and the service is quick. It only took me maybe 5 minutes to check in and "poof" the silver bullet appeared and we were out the door. We LOVE Kihei Rent-A-Car! Our only regret is that we didn't know about them years ago! We've used them now for the last 5-6 years & will never use any other car rental again! What we love about them is they tell you to call them as soon as you've exited your plane. Once you grab your luggage & walk out to their pu location you're greeted by a friendly driver in a beautiful van & whisked off to Kihei. *COVID Update* They are open 9AM-5PM, but they will schedule people on call for shuttles that run after hours. Masks are required indoors. They have hand sanitizer. They didn't check temperatures. No bathroom. The prices here are way more affordable than the car rental companies at the airport!! Here's the main reason: the owner gets used cars and then rents them out. The cars will have normal wear and tear, and in our case, an old engine !? Keep reading. Our group really needed a mini-van, but they kept insisting that they could not give that to us. We were forced to rent two small cars instead of one big car. [The rental cars are an issue in the HI islands this year.] During our trip, the 2015 Nissan Sentra check engine light turned on while we were driving the Road to Hana, so obviously my group freaked out. We called them as soon as we had service, and they told us to drop by next morning. In the morning, we made the trip out to their office (mind you, this was out of our way and in the middle of our plans). Two people told us the light was completely fine. They were going to turn off the light and send us back with the same car. We really didn't feel safe because we didn't want to get stuck in Hana with a car situation!! The guy (not the lady) was able to accommodate our request, and I'm really glad they worked with us. I'm here at home now writing this review because I made it back in one piece. This was a super risky situation, but I guess we did save hundreds of dollars by going with this company. Not only that, their office was close to our stay in Kihei, and they charged $30 for airport shuttle, which runs every hour on the hour between 8 AM to about 10 PM. We did have to wait 40 minutes for the shuttle to pick us up upon arrival at OGG airport. read more

I've used Kihei Rent A Car three times by recommendation and it's incredible how seamless and easy the process was. They're probably the cheapest rental car company on Maui, and half the price of most Turo rentals as well. Their cars are fairly new, clean, efficient, and diverse, allowing you to choose between Hana-ready jeeps, gas-saving sedans, and vans that can hold young children, beach chairs, and luggage. The staff are friendly and helpful, and they're accommodating; I've had to change around scheduling to leave Maui due to the wildfires and they were able to switch around my return date quickly. Picking up and booking the car was simple (just required my CC, drivers license, and a signed waiver). Just don't dirty their cars too much or damage them on the road to Hana (and usually the additional insurance with them isn't necessary since your CC company provides it). Best of all, they have free shuttles that travel to and from Kahului airport every hour, and they ensure they'll have room for you when you book with them. I'm very, very impressed with Kihei Rent-A-Car, and I'll continue to use them happily whenever I'm in Maui. read more

RENTERS BEWARE!! I would have gave a great review but after the way we were treated and taken advantage of is diabolical. They will get you with the extra changes!! First, they double charged me when I had requested for an additional day and it took 3 callbacks for me to get my refund back for the overcharge. Secondly, the day of the return the car had scuffs that was out of our control, we were tripled charged the amount we paid for. Lastly, Mikey who we spoke to was unprofessional and had no sense of care. Be careful with family owned business like these, they may seem to care but will charge you insanely! They wouldn't even give us a complimentary ride to the airport for renting the car for 6 days. A lot of comments I'm seeing now show how they treat people. Just make sure you check everything, bc I thought I did a pretty thorough initial walkthrough, internally and externally, only to find out near the end of our trip that the car literally doesn't have a horn. L M A O Staff is lovely and knowledgeable-- I believe Kihei Rent A Car is locally owned. We scheduled a shuttle from the airport with no problem, just provided our arrival time and their van appeared on the dot. Shuttle back to the airport was similarly easy to book. Such great service! We were able to rent a car the day of, for around $50, and return it the next day! They were even kind enough to let us extend our return time a bit so we could quickly grab lunch before returning the car and heading to the airport. They also have a shuttle to the airport ($40 for the group), but for us it was cheaper to Uber. Overall, for rentals, so much cheaper than all the other options! Five stars for this local rental car company! I'm so glad our friend, who lives in Kihei, suggested this company instead of one of the larger ones based at the airport. Yes they have older vehicles but it all depends on what your needs are. We knew we wouldn't need 4 wheel drive so we opted for a 2016 Nissan Sentra. It cost $350 for 7 days, a great price! Did the car have some dents and dings and maybe a zip tie holding the passenger door handle together? It did but that didn't bother us in the least. I felt the used in look made our vehicle appear more like a local than a tourist so we could blend in. They offer complimentary shuttle service from OGG (Maui airport) and the bus was waiting for us when we walked up. The driver was super friendly and gave us some travel tips during the drive. I forgot her name but she was great and i had such a welcoming, positive experience. Our rental car did the trick. We drove to Haleakala State Park as well as took the road to Hana and this little car handled everything perfectly! Great gas mileage too. Corky was our driver to OGG when we were returning the car and she was amazing! Actually all the staff we came into contact with were pretty stellar, just friendly people that seemed genuinely happy to help you. Corky offered lots of tips and was a great tour guide.
