Luckily, after contacting my home state's DMV they informed me on the out of state registration renewal process. I went to this E-Check station for a smog check because it was the closest station to where I'm staying, and wow, did they blow my experience out of the water!! First of all, there was absolutely no wait! I pulled up and they immediately asked me what I wanted to do and they instructed me on their own process for out of state registrations. Usually it's $18, but luckily, their system was down and the manager on duty was very nice and said to go ahead with my test anyways as he provided the associate with an override code. Then the associate walked me through the process and made it an overall painless and pleasant experience! To my surprise, it was also free?!? Crazy! If I need to renew my registration again, I will make sure I come back to this location!

I could easily scan my car's VIN using the scanner from the left door of the kiosk or type it in. Next, I was instructed to type in the current mileage. Then, using the OBD reader from the right door of the kiosk I connected it, pressed a button, and the kiosk quickly generated a report. Within five minutes of arrival, I had the printed report in hand. The convenience of using the kiosk anytime was a major plus. Overall, this was a very efficient and convenient DIY echeck kiosk for hassle-free vehicle inspections.

This same tech damaged the housing on my air filter when he attempted to access it....now they are unwilling to pay for the damage. They said since invoice shows 'N/A' for air filter they aren't liable...I say B.S. when it's part of their 20 point inspection! Staff also informed me this same employee was let go. They have high employee turn over..avoid them! No concern for the customer. All they care about is making $ and their bottom line. ZERO STARS is not an option so one star entered.

Anyway, they all introduced themselves to me by name and explained exactly what they were doing at each step and if they would like you to do anything (they have you wait in the car the whole time, involving you somewhat in the turn the car on/off, step on the brake and put it in reverse, etc.). They presented me with several different options of oil change as well as a few unnecessary things to "recommend," though because the car is only 3 months old, they really didn't have any case for why I should get anything special done. They held up the air filter to me to show me, they showed me the dipstick (now that sounds dirty) that indicated the oil level. Also, the funniest part of all this was all the "assembly line" shouting and calling out. "Removing Oil Cap!" "Oil Cap Removed!" "Checking Levels!" "Levels OK!" "Preparing to tighten cap..." "Cap fully tightened!" I half expected them to say "All systems a go, ready for takeoff!" or something like that. The price: worth it for the service. Just don't get fooled into buying the ridiculously expensive oil change or extra services, and you're good to go.

At my most recent visit there were 2 cars in the bays and 2 in front of me in line. After 50 minutes with no movement, a tech came out to apologize and explain that the cars in the bay were getting "extra services." He said it would be an addition 5-10 minutes. 15 minutes later a different tech came out to tell me their computer system had crashed and that they would have to do everything by hand meaning it would "take forever." That will be my last visit. Stay away!
