I finally made my way to Needville to check out what I've been hearing about for a while now. It's been a long time coming and I waited too long...but it was worth the wait! This place was recommended to me from some coworkers who happen to be Cajun from Louisiana. I had high expectations and let me tell you now, Bayou Boys met every one of them. First the ambiance. I'm from a small town in west Texas and this place reminds me of the small cozy diners I used to frequent as a kid, where the service was great and the food was even better. When I walked in though, I knew I wasn't in Texas anymore Toto. I was in Lafourche Parish. Not transported by a tornado but by the aroma of some tres bien boudin, poboys and gumbo! The service was excellent. Hannah was very customer oriented and made the whole experience very enjoyable. She answered questions, gave recommendations and knew the menu very well. The food....come on now...the food? C'est bon!!! Let's start off with the fried green tomatoes. Thanks to my mom growing up and a healthy dose of Kathy Bates movies, I grew up eating fried green tomatoes. These were so good. Fried and crispy on the outside but tender and oh so juicy on the inside. Dipped in that blue cheese or ranch, it was going down! If I drove all this way, I'm going to eat! So next up. The Butt Burner Boudin was fire! If you didn't know boudin means delicious and this was some delicious boudin. I back doored the boudin with a boudin ball that was equally delicious. I'm sure somewhere there is a debate about boudin links vs boudin balls and it was hard to decide in this case but I'll leave the ball in your court to decide. The chicken and sausage gumbo was incredible. That dark, chocolate brown roux had a deep, rich flavor. The chicken and sausage was full of flavor and the rice soaked up all that good flavor. Was I done? Oh no bebe! I still had to try them famous poboys! One catfish and one shrimp. The French bread was incredibly soft but with a very light crispy crust. The catfish and shrimp both were amazing. These poboys were stuffed! Lettuce, pickles and tomatoes packed in and overflowing! I put that tartar sauce on the catfish and that poboy was something serious! I thought I was done but I let them talk me into trying that Tarte au la Bouillie. Let's be honest. It didn't take much convincing. I was ready. The translation is burnt milk tart but all I tasted was delight! It's something between a custard and a cheesecake but not like either. It's just good, ya heard! The owner Joel made several stops by the table and talked about the food a bit. I appreciate when the owner or chef stops by and connects with the customer. It shows the passion for great customer service and incredible cuisine. Y'all it took me way too long to make it to Bayou Boys in Needville, TX. Don't be like me...be ready to eat some authentic Cajun cuisine and jump in your car and drive to Needville asap! You won't be disappointed!!! read more

I came to order some crawfish since it's now in season. I read reviews online and they were advertising $8/lb I decided to try. There's parking around the building. When I walked up, a couple was outside having their crawfish. It's a grab n geaux as they say online. I ordered 4 lbs and some boudin balls. I was informed it would be about 45 mins since they do Louisiana style, after cooking it requires a 30 min soak. I sat outside while waiting, as soon as I sat at the patio tables, more and more patrons stoped by to order. Within 25 mins, about 20 of us were waiting. They would update us on the time left to pick up. They place the crawfish in styrofoam to-go container and bag them up. The crawfish were on the small-medium end but that is expected given the time of year. The favor was good, the shells were a bit soft and it seemed that it may have been a touch overcooked but for the larger ones, it was just fine. Boudin balls were about baseball sized but very salty. I may return for more crawfish but once the season is fully going. read more

There is no other place that I ANXIOUSLY AWAIT crawfish season to start!! Joel and his team does them perfectly -- the perfect amount of spice, the perfect size bugs, and always a competitive price. Definitely worth the drive to Needville! While we sure love those bugs, honestly there has not been a single thing that wasn't outstanding on his menu. Oh! And besides the fantastic food.... You will always find the owner Joel first in line to help others in times of crisis. It's not unusual for him to cook up huge batches of something delicious to feed first responders, flood victims, etc. We love Bayou Boys, and this world needs more Joel's in it!! read more

Was craving some crawfish and googled places near by. I am in Richmond, so this place was only 12 minutes away. I love a good ducked off place that's not too fancy for some crawfish. And this place did not disappoint. The margarita was delicious and kinda strong to be frozen. :) The swamp fries were so good. The sauce on top was amazing! And the crawfish! So good! They only come one way, and that way is perfect. I don't do spicy so it was the perfect amount of seasoning and spice. We wanted to take some home for the kid but they had sold out. So get there early! We ended up taking some Boudin balls and some fish and shrimp home to the rest of family and that was good and fried well. Will definitely come back here! read more

Bayou Boys is hard to beat for good homemade food with a Louisiana flair. Sometimes they have all you can eat gumbo for $9.99. You can't beat that. Was driving back to Houston & was in the area. This had the best reviews, so I stopped in. I was immediately greeted & the service was very attentive. It's a pay at the counter place, very casual & small town friendly. I had fried shrimp and a cup of red beans & rice. The RB&R had a clear roux, which is not my favorite style, but it was really good. Shrimp were decent, but not amazing. French fries were good. I'm not a fan of Po'boys, but I'd bet they make a really good one. I'd stop there again before trying someplace else in the area. read more

Saw this place while on my way back to Houston, and something about it said come on in.. it's not fancy nor spectacular, but what it lacks in looks is surpassed by the quality and flavor of its food. The menu is written on chalk on a large chalkboard when you walk in. Study the options carefully, as that is the only menu you will see after your seated. As a Cajun born and raised in South Louisiana I can say this is some authentic Cajun cuisine and tastes just like home! Came for dinner on a Friday evening. Was a packed house. There was always someone coming in to either dine in or pick up Togo, and I can see why with how delicious everything was. Crawfish was absolutely amazing! Shells peeled right off with no problem, and the flavor was soaked right in. I thought I finished this review but never did. My Bad. I just heated up some of the crawfish etouffe that was bought to go 5 months ago. It was a gallon bag I think. We heated some pretty soon after words and still have 4 servings frozen. What a great reminder how great the food is at Bayou Boys. They were out of a few items on the Monday I was there 5 months ago. I was told I would not be sorry with what they had available. I remember it was fantastic. I had a shrimp po boy and the last bowl of Gumbo that I dont think they charged us for. Both were the best ever. We had to wait for the etouffe to cool enough to be put in the container. Slightly disappointed. I saw the post on Facebook and wanted to give this place a try. The plan was to order crawfish, catfish dinner, catfish Maria and the crawfish etouffee. Unfortunately I could try none. I walked in at 5:34 to order dinner to go for my family. The young lady told me to give her a few minutes and she will be with me. After waiting a few minutes I heard a guy tell her to no longer accept orders of crawfish to go. Again they were not sold out and had just brought in a huge white ice chest full of crawfish from the the front outside area of the restaurant. I love this place. The roast beef poboy is really good. They have a chicken Parmesan sandwich Louisiana-style using a sauce piquant instead of tomato sauce. It is incredibly good!! They also have blackened catfish over fried green tomatoes covered in crawfish etouffee. The bomb....it's called Swamp thing or something like that. I'm not a huge fan of the boudin balls because I like more rice in mine. There's are tasty but I don't like the consistency. My husband loves them. I do love their hush puppies...soooo good. Crispy on the outside and perfect semi firm consistency inside. I could eat those with a bowl of the etouffee and be one happy girl. I have tried to eat the bread pudding every visit but it's so irresistible that it is always sold out. One day I'll get lucky. If you like real Louisiana cooking...not chain restaurant food, I'm talking real Louisiana folks cooking then come here. Oh and the customer service has been impeccable everytime. This is a very casual restaurant. We sat outside at a picnic table. Not a particularly great ambience, but about what you'd expect. The seafood specifically is sooo good. Their fried oysters and fried shrimp were great. "The Swamp Balls" appetizer was amazing. The seafood itself was 5 star for sure. The po'boy (aside from the actual shrimp) was below average. The sides weren't great. Fries were average, potato salad and regular salad were below average. I would return for the seafood. I would get anyway of the seafood not on a po'boy. read more

Just noticed these folks opened and I was in a hurry so I got a 'To Go' order. They were courteous and expeditious which is always a good start. Would like to return when I have more time as their menu looks interesting and a close to Richmond, TX Cajun restaurant is always a welcome addition. I had a Muffaletta Po'Boy which was incredibly flavorful which was generously stuffed with ham, salami, provolone, mozzarella and topped with olive salad. The sandwich was made on a wonderfully fresh toasted french bread and although not a Central Market loaf was equally pleasant. The olive salad was perfect and the sandwich was toasted which is my preference however I would suspect you could get it cold if you so desired. In addition to the sandwich was a serving of fries which were hot, crisp and equally good. I had ice tea alongside and in all was a very pleasant and tasty meal. Went to see what this place was about being that I always hear good things. I was not disappointed. From entering into the place everyone was very nice and generous welcoming me with a smile and great service and just overall patience with my husband and I for our first time.
