I made my first visit to The Oil Lamp this month and found it quite delightful! It has a very down-home feel to it. Food is served cafeteria-style: you see it, you tell them what you want, they serve it, and you pay for it. It's a meat-and-2 or meat-and-3 type of meal with bread and dessert. Lots of country cooking, so think fried chicken, turnip greens, creamed corn, black eyed peas, cornbread, etc. The best part of the meal was the key lime pie! They have a lot of dessert options, but I'm a sucker for key lime pie, so I couldn't turn it down. It was great! The ladies serving the food were incredibly courteous and love to joke around with customers. The only reason I give it four stars is because a few of my meal items were cold and therefore not as tasty as the rest. Otherwise, it's a wonderful place for supper with family and friends! read more

This place is amazing. We have only been here twice due to it being 6 hours away but worth the drive. They have a Friday night special of smoked steak. It is one of the best steaks ever for a small town restaurant. We all as a group of 10 encourage you to give this place a try. Only drawback is they are not open on the weekends. read more

This was awesome when it was freshly and supremely revamped. Unfortunately, Covid hit. Prices went up, quality and selection went down! No more fried oysters or shrimp! Weird tasting sweet potato casserole! What happened to the buttery fkavor?flavor?! ​Would have zero heartburn with upping prices if owner would go back to offerings from before and maybe adding more? Fried okra anyone?! Hate to see it go out of business, but if it doesn't revisit past offerings and ingredients, no amount of cleanliness is going to save her! For shame! read more

This is a really nice restaurant that reminds you of the good old days. It's an old style restaurant but it reminds me of the nice cafeteria type restaurants that just aren't around much anymore. They have a good variety of food to choose from and they usually have some specials you can get. The loaded mashed potatoes and the mac and cheese are my favorite sides, but they aren't always available. The only big negative is it is usually crowded and you don't seem to get much privacy from the people waiting in line. If they could fix that problem by making a higher wall divider between the people waiting in line then it'd be a nicer experience. read more

It's hard to find good country cooking these days. This place fits the bill. You walk down the line and choose your meat, sides and bread. There's also a salad bar and lots of yummy looking desserts. We had country fried steak. There was also fried chicken, roast beef, baked chicken and ribs. Several sides to choose from. Everything we tried was delicious and priced very affordable. I'm leaving Georgia with diabetes. Came in with a diverse group. I mean there was a Mexican, a Jew, Filipino, Indonesian, White, and two amputees (I have a pretty interesting job). All welcomed with open arms. It was southern hospitality or Georgia hospitality. We all felt welcomed like we've been there before. The portions they give you is really great! The food just makes your mouth water and wanting to go back for seconds. I even had room for a cobbler! My friend and I was joking that we were missing ice cream on top. Our server over heard it and BAM she comes back out from the back with two ice cream! Man, if wore my Thanksgiving pants that day I could have definitely come for seconds. Our first time at the Oil lamp was Friday evening. I was surprised it was café style when we came in, guess I should've done more research. This also explains why when I tried to call to make a reservation the lady that answered sounded a little confused and assured me we didn't need a reservation. Now I see why! Lol! Regardless I got the ribeye meal with two sides and added an extra side. My boyfriend got the same. Only differ with was he ordered Mac and cheese as one of his sides. The ribeye was really the show stealer. I got mine med rare, it came more med but that was fine because it was still really tender and juicy. Its the best ribeye I've had in a while. And for the money you get a huge steak and two sides. Totally worth it. Potatoes were really good, Lima beans weren't bad, green beans were pretty basic. Definitely tasted like they came from a can. But I love green beans so they were still enjoyable. My boyfriend got the Mac and cheese and that was not a winner. It was dry and bland. We won't get that again. Staff was friendly. Our waitress was very sweet and accommodating. Only thing is the restaurant is small so we ended up sitting by where the line starts in the restaurant. Which can be a little uncomfortable when you are enjoying your meal with strangers walking up waiting in line over you. Next time we will try to sit in a better area. You make a sharp right when you enter and get in line. You get one meat and two sides for about $8, extra sides or extra meat for additional fee. Absolutely the best find! Think school lunch line cafeteria style, but put the best darn food you can imagine on it. The salad bar was loaded. The pie cases were FULL of a variety of homemade pies. The servers made sure our drinks were full and we were well taken care of. It was so darn good, we drove 36 miles again the next day. There are many meat and two kind of places but this is one of the best in Ga. that I have been to. The food was really good and warm. Yes, it is a little pricey but you get what you paid for. I had the beef tips, mashed potatoes and collard greens. The chicken meatloaf etc was all good also. This place was busy and full with a lunch time crowd. This means good usually. No exception here.
