This little family restaurant is obviously a local favorite by the Yelp reviews and packed parking lot. What a wonderful find!! It's a cafeteria/ grill style restaurant that has reasonable prices and friendly staff, along with delicious food that's made fresh to order along with some that's prepped to go. There is some confusion between their social media and menus that we only recently identified regarding their operating hours. Social media says closes Saturday and Sunday, while the menu lists the weekend special including Saturday night. We had to leave so I caution you to make sure and go by Friday to make sure you get to taste their delicious food! read more

This is an excellent locally owned buffet restaurant. Southern food in a nice atmosphere but consider it is a buffet. It is not an all you can eat buffet but more like a cafeteria style. Great staff and a busy place with mostly locals. We will eat there again when in that area. read more

(*NB, this is going to be a group review of 10 peoples' experience) Being from Kentucky, we take our southern food very seriously (especially our fried chicken) and 7 out of 10 of us agree that our mom couldn't have made better food than that! But, to set the record straight, this is not a buffet. It's food served cafeteria style. As a friend Lloyd says, "It's nice to rub elbows with the locals." 7 out of 10 of us thought the service was the best part. In fact, when we finished our meal with a very large cup of black coffee, for free! The other three out of 10 thought the pie was the best. I am in town from Tampa for some manufacturers product training at the fairgrounds.I found this place on Yelp and after reading all the reviews, decided to try it for myself. I had the smoked ribeye mostly due to the picture on yelp. The steak was outstanding! It was grilled to perfection and the sides are all made from scratch. Do yourself a favor and take home a piece of Carmel apple pecan pie when you leave. The people working and eating there are extremely nice and very welcoming to people from out of town. Wow, excellent cafeteria, friendly, welcoming service, and the MOST AWESOME PECAN PIE. I was working in Perry for a few weeks, and the Oil Lamp was within walking distance to my hotel. Their sides are amazing, don't skip the fried okra!! Meats are great, the roast beef was perfect and juicy, and the Thursday/Friday night special of fried shrimp was prepared on the premises and an excellent value. Also, their dinner rolls are perfect, fluffy amazingness. And yes, the hype about the pecan pie, is FOR REAL. After reading the reviews about the pie, I knew I had to try it for myself, and it was AMAZING. I brought a slice back for my husband, and he agreed, best pecan pie of all time. We loved it so much when I went back the following week I ordered a full pie to bring back to Atlanta! The service is also wonderful, it's beyond cafeteria style. The waitstaff is constantly tending to your table, sometimes even passing out delicious free cookies! Seriously, anytime you swing through Perry a trip to the Oil Lamp is a must! read more

If you haven't been here before the layout is confusing and the staff isn't forthcoming about how things work. The tables are very tightly packed and the space has more seating than I'm sure is allowed. (If there is an emergency I have no idea how fast I could get out of the building). This is cafeteria style but the staff wasn't attentive enough to refill drinks often. All of the sides we had (Mac and cheese, green beans and grits) were cooked to death and over salted. The shrimp was well seasoned and fried. The corn bread was pretty good. The steak I ordered was somewhat over cooked but decent. I was not impressed by the food at $42.00 for three meals. We did enjoy the slice of pecan pie but not enough to come back. I don't think I ever need to return. read more

As a local who has eaten here for many years I can tell you the oil lamp is some of the best if not the best southern cooking in all of middle Georgia. They make everything from scratch. Come early bc the lines develop fast as the eager locals rush in. We've said for years that the oil lamp is one of our best kept secrets. It's not the greatest food in the world but serviceable. I liked the place a lot. As others have said, the good is a bit salty. I tried the "roast beef" and it's not like any roast beef I had ever seen -- more like hash. If/when I go again I will try the chicken. It's not a place for vegetarians. They have lots of vegetables but they seem more like a matter of duty than love. Refills of Coke and ice tea are bottomless the staff is genuinely sweet. Thursday and Friday night steak nights r great! The smoked ribeye is absolutely wonderful. Had it for the past 3 thursdays in a row all cooked to perfection. Have to ask for the baked potato they are not on the bar. The grill opens at 5PM for the steaks my wife had the sirloin it was huge, barely fit on the plate if u haven't tried it u need too. Were Luke warm, the corn bread was cold is if it had been refrigerated any the coconut pie was all topping with maybe a tablespoon of filling. I ordered the ribeye with baked potato and salad with a biscuit. The salad was served on a butter plate(shame on them) the steak was cooked to perfection but couldn't cut it for all the string ligaments steak was tasty but couldn't chew it for all the ligaments. I know u can't see those little devils into u try and cut them. My biscuit was cold, I asked for a warm or hot biscuit and the waitress returned with the biscuit they had put water on it and microwaved it and even melted the styrofoam dish. Excellent food and great prices. Would love it if they had a larger, new location. It's very hard to get in the door some days.

Food is great and service is excellent. However, portions are rather small. In addition to small portions it's also a bit pricy. We always spend close to $40 for a family of 4 (2 of which is small children and we never get desert). I really think it depends on who is running the register. This one od the best kept secrets in Georgia for visitors. But for locals, it is there place to go for sure. This country home cooking buffet is fixed vy the nicest ladies. The fresh salad is $4.50.extra but worth it. The meat selection is much better than most restaurants with each items delicious. I like the veggies that are cooked my my mom did it. The deserts are to die for. Thus is an inexpensive place that offers warm and friendly service. These folks work so hard and it pays off with pleanty of customers but dont worry. Service was great! Some may think that this is not a big deal but after being in town for a week and eating at a variety of restraints unfortunately good service has not been the norm. Walking in this place was very clean. By far the Best Meal I have had while in town this week. I wanted the smoked ribeye but the dinner menu did not start until 5 pm. That being said I had the baked chicken which was seasoned just right and was extremely moist. Others at the table kept saying how good the roast beef was. Items on the salad bar are Fresh and the salad bar is well maintained. I would not hesitate to return or recommend this place. For years, I have wanted to come to the Oil Lamp Restaurant in Perry, especially for the smoked prime rib on Thursday and Friday nights. I am so glad I made it this year. Our dinners were very good and quickly served. Three of us had prime rib, one had fried oysters, one had fried shrimp, one had the vegetable plate, and the last had the roast beef. Everyone enjoyed their meals, and the service was great. And the steaks were as big as your plate. Make sure to save room for their desserts. read more

This is an amazing, serving line restaurants that serves home cooked food at its best. There are 5 or 6 meats and an abundance of old fashioned vegetables that are mouthwatering. You can also build your own salad, which the only thing you can do, for $4.50. It was fresh and tasty. I had the chicken breast smothered in cheese, bacon and mushrooms. It was excellent. The Collards, and squash casserole were amazing. And don't forget the corn bread. This is a busy place anytime but the service is fast and so nice.
