They don't have too much going on, in the best way, unlike some spots that mash up ingredients that don't really complement each other or the fish. The prices are AMAZING for the quality and quantity of food you receive. The fish is so fresh and perfectly sliced. They also have great lunch deals where you can get 2 normal rolls for ~15 and 3 special rolls for ~18. If you're expecting a big bustling place with bouncing music that can accommodate a table of 15 without a reservation... this is not the place. It is an intimate and small setting to have a relaxing dinner. If you have ever eaten there you know to use your inside voice. Also, pro tip: order the sweet iced tea. We went on a Monday evening and it looked closed from the outside, but just walk in. They're open! Seat yourself because there's not a hostess. Write down what you want and bring it to the sushi bar or else you'll just be sitting there waiting. When we read previous reviews about the wait time for the food, they weren't lying! So do not come here hungry! We ordered a baked salmon, miso soup, Elle roll, shrek roll and treasure roll. Everything was so good and definitely made the wait worth it. The baked salmon was good! A friend of mine was recently in Lafayette and I recommended this place for lunch so I figured it HAD to be my next review. I'm a Cajun girl. I was born in the swamps of Houma, Louisiana and moved to New Iberia, Louisiana (or as the locals call it The Berry :)) when my dad was transferred there for work. I'm still a frequent visitor of Lafayette since my dad and a brother and sister still live there. My sister brought me here about a year ago and let's just say my first impression was not great. It's in a really dinky strip mall. When you walk in there are about 6 or so tables. It's VERY small. One waitress. One chef. I didn't have high expectations. Boy, was I wrong! I kid you not, the sushi here is absolutely to die for. Just so fresh and scrumptious. It's amazing! My personal favorites are the Shrek roll..spicy snow crab, tempura shrimp with crab and kiwi fruit and the Snowcrab roll with snow crab paste and avocado. So being out of town, they drove in to not break our tradition and surprise me today for my birthday, and I found this place on yelp. To start - it's small, has soft traditional Japanese music playing, and you see Shinto symbols. Now to the food. Probably the best food I've ever had in my life. The sushi was amazing. We each got four different rolls, miso soup, tea, and traditional red bean ice cream afterwards. Everything was on point. Of course we all tried each other's rolls, and everything was perfect. Tasty and fresh. Everything. Perfect sushi rolls and perfect atmosphere. Lastly, it is a small place, plan accordingly. We will be back. After missing the turn TWICE for this place--it's easy to miss if you're unfamiliar with the area because it's hidden in the corner--and it being bumper to bumper traffic, I figured it wasn't meant to be. But that just ended up making me want it even more. So I endured an additional 30 minutes of traffic because people here said waiting would be worth it. And it totally was. I ordered miso soup--tastier than usual miso soup other restaurants serve--dragon roll, and spider took and I left completely satisfied and full. Totally worth the u-turns and the traffic and the wait, which was only fifteen minutes because it was dinner time and only one couple was in there when I arrived (two more came later). DO NOT COME IF YOU ARE IN A HURRY. As others have noted, this is largely a one man restaurant with a few tables. Luckily with Yelp, I'm rarely surprised. There were plenty of warnings that the meal would be slow. I was in town for work and decided that I'd get there right when they opened to mitigate some of the slow service concerns. Despite being one of the first, it took roughly 50 minutes from ordering my sushi to getting my sushi. It was obvious who the regulars are -- they'd call ahead of time, telling the gentleman what time they'd arrive so he'd have time to make the sushi. The sushi itself was very good and reasonably priced for the ingredients. If it wasn't for the service, it would be a five star review. The waitress showed up late and seemed overwhelmed, because it was her first few days. As a result, my water remained empty the entire wait in anticipation of the sushi. read more
