I have family living in northern Lauderdale County, Mississippi, and when I am visiting there it is not unusual for us to go to Okatibbee Creek Fish Camp for a meal. The building is a converted/expanded service station. The general dining area is one large room with picnic style tables and benches. Hush puppies (both hot and mild) and cole slaw are spontaneously delivered to each table even before orders are taken. The servers are prompt and friendly and given the dynamic of the rural community are often personally known to the diners. In that same vein, I don't remember a time that I have ever been there when at least a few of the family members I was with didn't know at least a few of the other customers there. Visiting between tables is common. That having been said, newcomers are absolutely welcomed. The fare is what you would expect of an inland southern fish camp: lots of fresh catfish prepared in a variety of ways and shrimp, oysters, and crab (unfortunately, all frozen) up from the Gulf. All of it tends to be breaded and/or deep fried. There is also a grilled chicken option, a hamburger steak option, and two ribeye steak options, all with appropriate sides. My understanding is that the Okatibbee Creek Fish Camp is only open for dinner and at that only a few days a week. Please call 601-737-2051 for specific information. As an uncle of mine used to say, it's so rural that it's downright local. I have no idea what anyone would be doing in that area who doesn't live there or who didn't, like me, at least grow up there; but if you should find yourself--for whatever reason--in the north end of Lauderdale County, Mississippi looking for an authentic local dining experience, you're not going to do any better than the Okatibbee Creek Fish Camp. read more

Seafood platter was very poor.2 pieces of fish were okay. 4 hard fried small sysco shrimp and 2 oysters that were the size of my thumb with no shrimp or oyster taste. Dried out, overcooked stuffed crab. We eat out all the time but this restaurant will not be on our list of places to eat. Very poor quality food. read more

Great Food and Great Atmosphere! The Service is normally decent but they are usually pretty packed so they have their work cut out for them! Only negative is the prices can be kinda steep and they don't take cards. But, using cash or grabbing the checkbook can make for a great night of eating at my favorite Fish Camp! read more

Food was above average for this area and you get good sized portions. Staff is super friendly and prices were also comparable to their competitors. I will say they are better than the catfish trailer in Collinsville. read more

If you're looking for haute cuisine this ain't the place. If you like greasy fried foods then race on over! Portions are slight and prices are high. I ordered the steamed shrimp and it was old and under cooked. The catfish tasted like freezer burned leather coated with sand. No fresh salad or lemons. You get watery cole slaw and a nasty basket of greasy hush puppies as a complementary starter. The plastic table cloths were torn and actually taped together with scotch tape! The menus were laminated and covered in greasy fingerprints. The one pie they had available was a frozen lemon meringue that was probably defrosted last week. They are open Thursday-Saturday and only take cash or checks. The upside? Very friendly staff and good service. read more

This fish camp restaurant is very clean and the workers are very friendly. The fried pickles are great. The catfish fillets are good also but I thought the pieces of fish were small. Guys with an appetite can eat 4 fillets easily. The cold slaw was good also. They do not take credit cards or even debit cards so come with green stuff. I just barely made it out the door without washing dishes. I would go again. read more

Let's start with the sweet tea, it was well sweetened but, a little weak (not a complaint just personal preference). I had the fried catfish fillet with fried cornbread balls & cole slaw. The cornbread balls were crispy on the outside & soft on the inside. I normally do not eat cole slaw but it was very good here. The catfish fillet was crunchy on the outside with a light brown breading. The meat was white & fluffy. This was some of the best catfish I've had. The other order in my party was the grilled catfish. It was well seasoned & so tender it fell apart. The service was friendly & attentive but not too chatty. I will certainly go back. The restaurant was well kept & clean. They even did their best to accommodate my wife's seafood allergy, which she really appreciated. read more

The four piece fried catfish dinner is my absolute favorite. Between the hushpuppies, coleslaw, and fries that come with the meal, I usually end up taking two pieces of fish home with me (they make for a great fish sandwich later on!). And their tea! I usually order water when I eat out because most places can't make tea that I like, but not this place - there tea is great! read more
