Honestly, I'm a little surprised at how high this place rated! The food was just okay in my opinion. It is a cute, country style restaurant-cafeteria style seating with buck heads mounted on the wall. I will say the workers were very friendly and were attentive. The prices were not cheap, but not too expensive. Coleslaw and Hushpuppies: The coleslaw was very interesting, quite different than others I've had before, it was very acidic, but I did enjoy it! The hushpuppies were awful, tasted like old grease. Two piece fish filet with fries: Portion was kind of small compared to the other dish that was ordered. Nothing special about this, it was good. Fried crawfish tails with fries: This was super fishy and it tasted like it was fried in really old grease. Maybe I came in on an off day but this place was pretty average. read more

Great small town place! I got the seafood platter and my husband got the oyster platter. The food came out fresh and hot and it was all so Good!! I especially thought the catfish was delicious! They serve coleslaw and hush puppies (even ones with jalapeños in them), at the table for everyone. Something that I just love was that they serve a raw onion for you to slice up and put on your plate. How often do you see that?! The service was friendly and they kept the sweet tea coming! Long's Fish Camp was the first restaurant I visited when I was down in Mississippi for the first time. It gave me a memorable snapshot of what I can generally expect from the particular area. I have become accustomed to the DC metro area restaurant culture in recent years that entails micro aggressive and pretentious attitudes, as well as a common paradoxical phenomenon where you are being rushed out to clear the table but experience slow service at the same time. However, until coming to Long's Fish Camp in Mississippi, I forgot what it is like to be in a restaurant that serves not only good food but helps me fall in love with the culture and hospitality aspects of it. I visited Long's Fish Camp with a party of 4 on a Friday evening around 17:30. This visit was also without a reservation. The restaurant was nearly packed already but we managed to get a table. The server acknowledged us right away as soon as we stepped foot inside the door and let us get seated where we wanted to be. She then quickly served us with drinks, and coleslaw straightaway. I heard from my friends who lives in the area that everyone loves their coleslaw recipe but nobody knows how to duplicate them at home. I can believe it after witnessing my husband liking the coleslaw because he normally doesn't enjoy them. I ordered a basket of fried oysters and my husband got himself some fried catfish. Both orders came out piping hot and fresh. The wait time even though the restaurant was packed was less than 10 minutes after being seated. I have not had basket full of juicy fresh fried oysters in a long time. I got 12 big tender pieces of of them for less than $13. That's unheard of in DC area where I'd normally end up getting 3 pieces of meager fried oysters for $8. I know one of my favorite restaurants in Tokyo serves 5 pieces of it for roughly USD$32. Another noteworthy thing was that our server was very busy but she always made sure that we got everything we needed and we're happy. All of our drinks were topped up at all times and hush puppies readily available with a smiling gracious attitude. Normally, if I am in DC area trying to get a table for 4 on a Friday evening, it would require a reservation of sort, or having to wait for at least 30-45 minutes. The host wouldn't be so friendly and the food, price, and the service quality would never match what I experienced at Long's Fish Camp. Sure, this restaurant may not seem like a fancy looking place for those who are more accustomed to newer chain restaurants or big city restaurant. But instead, they offer excellent food and hospitality that puts any other restaurant I have gone in recent times to shame. In short, I cannot wait to go back to Mississippi and visit Long's Fish Camp again. read more

Sadly all things change. It was our first time back after change in ownership. I was sorely disappointed. We went Sunday late afternoon, it was not packed, so I was excited. Ordered our meals, prompt service, but when our meals came I was taken aback. We had to wait, so I Assumed food was being prepared. My fish was Not Hot, I ordered whole catfish, it had obviously been fried then recipes to warm. It was very oily and dry. My fries were lukewarm at best, his fillets were not good either, fries the same lukewarm. The hushpuppies are Sooooooo greasy, I did Not complain as I Don't trust people messing with my food as retaliation. So 2 whole catfish went to the kitties who don't have discriminating palates. A 55 dollar lesson that Won't be repeated. Sad but part of life. read more

When I get to Mississippi, I always have to visit Long's Fish Camp! The food is amazing! The fresh catfish is like no other that I've ever eaten, it's so delicious! The spicy hush puppies, OMGosh, they are fabulous! I could go on and on about this place but I'll just close with the coleslaw! When you get seated at Long's, they serve you this wonderful coleslaw with slices of onions and saltine crackers! I have to try not to eat it all so I can save room for my meal! Always call first before going! Our family got together last Sunday and headed that way from Toomsuba and Meridian. I checked both their website and their Facebook page to make sure they were open and everything said open until 8pm. After making the long drive there, we were met with two other carloads of people turning around in their parking lot and a CLOSED sign on the door. Come on guys, at least post something on your Facebook page if you unexpectedly have to close for the day. It's a big downer to waste a (nearly) two hour round trip for nothing. EDIT: Long's shut down for an "extensive" remodel 2 days after this review. I read about it in their online posting. Sadly, some of their employees (former employees, I guess) also posted mentioning that they weren't notified and only found out through the social media post. What a way to treat your employees. After oh-so-many traverses of the culinary desolation that is the southernmost reach of Interstate 59 between Slidell and Meridian, I ventured into unexplored deep pine forests on the eastern side and started to see "fish camps" with overflowing parking lots and lines out the door. One such establishment is Long's, an easy drive from Meridian and not too far off the main road (by my standards, at least). The restaurant is in squat cinder block flat with a solid front door that keeps the interior a mystery until you actually step inside. You'll be greeted immediately, possibly by owner Troy Smith who may or may not be Representative Troy Smith by the time you read this. Take a seat on the family style benches, and order up. They offer chicken strips, fried shrimp for those who aren't fish-eaters, but the raison d'être for a "Fish Camp" is fish. The whole fish here are remarkably good, fried to perfection and sliced to the bone before frying to make flaking off hunks much easier than expected. (I almost went with filets for that reason, but at the last second opted for whole fish. Glad I did, and that's what I recommend). The cole slaw is remarkably good, too, with a mayo base but a light and perfect complement to the fried stuff. Mr. Troy says they sell buckets of it, and I believe him. The fried pickles and hushpuppies are what one would expect. Be aware that the pickles come as a huge mound that could feed a half dozen people. At the time of our visit, the restaurant was festooned with state legislator campaign signs for the abovementioned Mr. Smith (who hoped to go to Jackson, not Washington). The conversation is lively and friendly, especially if you reveal you're traveling from a long way off. In our case, we snuck in 15 minutes before closing (something I try to avoid doing), and that led to more friendly chat than I imagine happens during busy times. read more

Great food and friendly staff. Be sure to bring cash to avoid ATM fees. Had the catfish platter with a full set up of fries, claw, and hush puppies. Added in a side of onion rings as well. All food was fried crisp and had good flavor. The hush puppies were slightly greasy, but were still flavorful and good. The jalapeños in some were just right for a hint of heat. The onion rings tasted like there were probably beer battered. Overall, the food was great and worth the drive from Meridian to Enterprise. The atmosphere is rustic with Deer and Turkey mounts on the wall for that hunting/ fishing camp feel. The place has been there for a long time and worth the trip to try. Best coleslaw ever! I have traveled all over this country and abroad, and nowhere else can compare. I can eat the whole serving bowl with Saltine crackers. I've been coming to Long's all my life and I craaaaave it when I'm away for too long. Walk in and have yourself a seat. Your server will bring the best coleslaw you've ever had, saltine crackers, lemon and sweet onion while you have a look at the menu. Hope you like fried food! There are only a couple of things on the menu that are grilled. It's definitely not the place for dieting but it's worth it. Sweet tea is fantastic, hush puppies are great and the food is wonderful. Most people go for the all you can eat fried catfish but everything else I've seen ordered looks yummy too. A word of warning, though...I used to always order the hamburger steak and it was great but the new owners have gone to foodservice frozen patties and I wouldn't feed it to my dog. It's a real shame. I actually did not think this was the BEST catfish I've ever had, but it was good, and the service was excellent. As others have stated...delicious sweet tea and coleslaw. But the true draw here is the atmosphere, and this place is the real deal in Southern fish camps, complete with it's concrete block structure that is alarmingly without signs on it (one is in front, near the road though). If the parking lot wasn't packed with cars, you would swear you took a wrong turn somewhere. Outstanding food and atmosphere! We took a chance and found ourselves in the middle of no where, riding down country roads until we came upon a simple concrete block building with the yard full of cars and huge trucks. We entered and a sweet girl came up and told us to sit at any picnic table. We did, she took our order half catfish half shrimp fried of course and within 5 min. this delicious food arrived to go with our free appetizer cole slaw. The owner came over to have some friendly conversation and listen to us rave about how good the good food was and tell him we found him on yelp. He laughed and said y'all come back. Our only problem is that we are 4 hrs away, but we told him we would make sure everyone on yelp knew to come by for the best good old fashion fish camp experience. There are several legendary catfish restaurants throughout Mississippi and Alabama, but there's none finer than Long's in Enterprise, MS. It is located directly on the banks of the Chickasawhay River. My mom and I have been eating at Long's for years and we try to eat there at least once a month. The catfish is unbeatable. I recommend the fillets, but the whole catfish is outstanding as well. Freshly made sweet coleslaw is brought to your table as an appetizer, complete with saltine crackers and a slice of fresh onion. The service is quick and friendly. The fish camp is open Thursday-Saturday, 3:00pm until 9:00pm and on Sunday from 11:00am until 9:00pm. The building is very simple, inside and out, but the walls inside are adorned with mounted deer heads, turkeys, fish, and other assorted critters. Love this place, plain and simple. read more

My wife and I have been going to Long's Fish Camp for years. The Catfish and the Coleslaw is the BEST in the entire state of Mississippi. The food is very well prepared and will fill you up. I love the french fries, and the hushpuppies are fantastic, especially the Jalapeno hushpuppies. The atmosphere is country sitting at the picnic style tables makes it fun for the whole family. The sweet tea is also very good, they even leave a pitcher of tea on the table so you can't run out. There is also a children's menu for the little ones.
