My favourite place for a Sushi hit! Everytime I have to go to another sushi restaurant I always end up saying "Oki is better". The decor is basic and the music screams Asian Karaoke but thats the beauty of it. You cant beat the quality or value for money! My favorites are Sashimi A, Broiled Yellowtail, Tempura Tuna Roll, Oki Roll and Sashimi Salad. They also have the best handrolls ever! (try Spicy Salmon w/ Avocado - YUM!) You also get Edemame and Sweet Pickled Cucumber thrown in for free! Love this place....although I dont want everyone to know!! read more

This place is possibly my favorite sushi place around in this area. Their rolls are unique in looks and taste. It is hard to believe that such a nice sushi place can be missed out by so many out there, but that's expected as it's stuck to the side at a tiny plaza with a 7 eleven, laundrmat, and shady looking skate shop that's really a smoke shop with 2 sets of trucks on display. The decor doesn't really exist, as inside has a few sticky tables jumbled together with matching chairs. It's family run and operated save for one bus boy with a great sense of humor. The sushi is not Japanese (one flavor or fish per roll) authentic taste. But that didn't stop me from being a repeat and repeated customer. Here are my recommendations- -TNT dynamite roll, not to be confused with the basic dynamite roll thats also on their menu. Its like a California roll sliced up and laid out on a circular plate topped with fried scallops and fish eggs. Then slathered in their special sauce consisting of teriyaki, chili, and a light cream sweet sauce. Sprinkled with chopped green onions. -IN N OUT roll Simply a tuna roll with avacado, topped with seared tuna and green onions sitting in a dish with what reminds me of the marinade you put on steak before you grill it at the barbie. -Sunset roll Its got cream cheese in it, so you must like the Philly roll before you try. It's next level Philly roll which can become a new favorite. Each has their own unique flavoring, and you dont have to add soy sauce and wasabi to any of these dishes. If you like BIG rolls, try the Hermosa roll, which is a variation of the Snow cone roll, or the Oishe roll, 3-5 kinds of sashimi rolled inside of a winter melon. For a sample of what they have, try the Maki Land 2 combo. Its alot of food, big enough for 2-4 people. If you sit at the bar, you can sometimes get freebies. I've been given fried albacore, fried chicken strips, and pokey salad. I've also gotten the occasional free beer, which of course they know I'm old enough from previous visits. read more

The hubby brought me here this afternoon for their lunch special. I was a little skeptical but this is my new favorite sushi place! The lunch specials are amazing at the price. The california rolls have an amazing amount of crab and avocado, usually when you get a cheaper roll they get chintzy with the more expensive items and just put in the smallest pieces. The rolls were great. I got chicken teriyaki, which came with a salad, rice, miso soup, california roll, cucumber salad -- all for $6.99. The portions were really decent! It also came with complimentary edamame, and the sushi chef gave us a plate of some complimentary dish to try -- I believe it was a chicken tempura, and it was delicious!!! The place was quiet, and it was very relaxing, service was great, but they didn't hover. Will be back soon!! read more

so i walked in with the husband and my cousin and immediately felt out of place. we were the only asians (aside from the sushi chefs and the waitresses)... we ordered a few rolls, and while they were pretty decent, i wasn't blown away. the best thing we ordered was the fire cracker roll, which was the cheapest thing we ordered and on their specials menu. it was good enough that i'd go back to order it again. oh! and we felt special because they gave us this fried chicken (or was it fish?) appetizer on the house... but then felt less special when we saw that every table got one. oh well! read more

THE BEST SUSHI IN THE SOUTHBAY! I used to go to OLG grade school up the street. I went to the 711 basically next door to Oki Doki all the time back in the day....must've missed this place. It's too bad though, I wish I knew about this restaurant sooner! 1. Cheap Sushi, but still very good quality fish. Lots of rolls for less than 10 bucks 2. Free Food Not only is the edamame free, but they also gave us a plate of tuna seared sashimies on the house! And for an appetizer there were sweet pickled cucumbers...that was nice. 3. Music Way freakin rad. It was this 90s mix. Seriously should have gotten a copy of the Oki Doki restaurant soundtrack...it's hilarious 4. Hidden and Awesome I totally went here off of the previous Yelp recommendations. And you're right, the front is so deceiving because it's a part of the 711 stripmall complete with the cartooney paint ads on the glass, but you walk inside: verrrry nice interior. 5. FAST service. done. I recommend the: **Oishii roll.** It's poke, albacore, salmon, crab, some other lil vegies, all rolled in CUCUMBER instead of the usual seaweed and rice. Went here with Boyfriend and his kids based on Yelp reviews. Boy, are we glad we did! Five people got full on sushi rolls for $65! Awesome. The place was pretty busy at 7:30 on a Saturday nite, but we were still able to get parking in the tiny lot as someone else was leaving. It's a tiny place...not many tables or seats at the sushi bar and we had about a 15 minute wait. Edamame and pickled cucumber were brought immediately and gratis. We ordered the Double Double roll, the Spider roll, the Crunchy Dragon, In and Out and Volcano roll. Everything was very large (at least 6 - 8 oversized pieces per roll for $9.99. We were pretty stuffed, but the waitress then brought us over a fish tempura platter "on the house." The cold sake certainly wasn't the best I ever had, but not bad for $3.99. I am excited to have a great casual sushi roll place within about 15 minutes of home and work. read more

Came here on a Thursday night after our first choice sushi place was closed. It started out a bit empty, but by the time we left at 7 it was hopping - a line to get a table, but a few spots at the sushi bar! Started off with the edamame and ordered several rolls as well as salmon and unagi sushi. While we were enjoying our edamame, they brought us each a piece of albacore tempura on the house. How awesome is that?! And it was really delicious, which made it even better! We got the spider roll, crunch roll, and caterpillar roll after much debating (they have a LOT of rolls to choose from!). All were delicious and the two sushi we got were quite good as well. My one complaint was that the rolls were pretty loose -- a few of my pieces fell apart as I was picking them up. If you sit at the first couple of seats at the sushi bar, you'll stand a good chance of being greeted by the owner as he cuts your fish. Nigiri, anyway, as there's a fellow behind him who does the majority of the rolls. Definitely try the tuna tataki and the baked scallop roll. The former being healthy and the latter being anything but. I've always had great service here. But then again, I sit at the bar, I give my entire order to the sushi chef/owner, and it just gets done. Why not a 5th star? Prices are Hermosa higher, and parking is Hermosa sketchy. But the fish itself has always been fine - not the super highest quality necessarily, but I don't need to pay $20/serving or more for toro either. This place is a gem. I wasn't really expecting that much with all these reviews about the sushi being cheap but honestly, it was the one of the freshest tasting sushi places I have been in a long time. I never feel like I really get full after eating sushi, but Oki Doki broke that streak. Its tucked in a corner mall and the inside definitely is nicer than what the outside depicts. They make good use with the small space as well. We ate at the sushi bar and the chefs were very polite. Here is what we had (the most expensive item was $16): Bento Box 3 combo: By far the best value. 12 bucks gets you a salad, miso soup, rice, and your choice of terriyaki, tempura, sushi rolls, etc (you get 3 choices of entrees.) My friend is a big guy and was hungry and barely finished it. Sunset Combo: This is their sashimi plate. It had 12 pieces of sashimi and each looked very fresh. You also get half a california roll and some other one. This is the pick if you want sashimi. California Combo: 4 bucks cheaper than the Sunset combo and almost the same quantity of sushi. It was just not sashimi (half of a california roll, half of a crab roll, half of a salmon roll) Eel Bowl: This was the only downside. You get like 6 pieces of eel and the rest is just a bed of rice and some veggies. I would assume all the bowls are like this so I would avoid ordering a bowl. The sushi chef gave us a chicken entree and said it was on the house as well. Love it when that happens. All in all, you should avoid overpriced pretentious sushi places in the south bay area and just come here for very reasonable priced fresh sushi that come in large quantities. read more

Ahh, Sushi. Having migrated from the East Coast, I'm certainly not suffering from a lack of sushi options here in LA! In fact, the difficulty definitely arises from analysis paralysis - having too many options! After having a craving for sushi, my partner consulted Yelp for a good place to try. She selected Oki Doki, and although it's a bit out of the way for a quick run for us, it's worth the trip. Overall, their sushi's pretty good. I'd rate it in the upper echelon of sushi I've had. They've got a good selection of the standbys, and they've got a fair number of specialty 'fun' rolls to try. Good stuff, all around. I typically get the omakase at any sushi place I go to. In this case, I chose the Sunset Combo, as I thought it was the closest. It wasn't disappointing, but it wasn't really 'chef's choice,' either. It seemed the fairly standard selection of albacore, tuna, salmon. We also got a Tuna Tataki to share. Recommended if you like tuna and ginger! My partner got the Unagi/Avocado dragon roll. Quite flavorful - the unagi was a bit more mushy than I'd like but it's a minor objection overall. They also offered us a complimentary albacore tempura. My initial impression was a bit 'weird,' since it tasted kind of like fried chicken with a vaguely sweet sauce. My second impression was better though. =) My only two minor quibbles were that their edamame were unsalted (kind of weird), and their green tea had more of a rice tea flavor than the familiar green tea flavor. Kind of odd! I ate the beans and drank the tea anyway, though! So, what do we think? Food: Good sushi! Some fun rolls to try out, it'll keep you busy if you're a regular. Service: Superb service! They were SUPER fast with the food and very attentive on the tea. We went for dinner. Value: Medium. I paid about what I'd expect. Not that I'd really be looking for 'discount sushi.' Ambiance: Very casual, almost diner style, with its closely crowded tables. Potentially a bit noisy if filled to capacity. Parking: It's in a strip mall with a small lot. I came here on a Friday night for dinner around 7 and was surprised at how empty the place was! I thought I'd have to wait for a table considering the number of pretty good reviews this place has received. I've been itching to try this place for over a year now since i quite literally live right across the street. They start you off with an a free appetizer of fried fish with some sort of sauce on top. It was tasty but a little overcooked. We then ordered a couple of rolls and sashimi combo B. The rolls were pretty standard and tasted quite good. But the sashimi was very disappointing. It was still partly frozen when we were eating it. I had to put one on my plate and thaw it out before i could bite into it. Needless to say, I was not impressed. If I have a craving for sushi I might come back here and get the rolls since I live so close to this place, but I will definitely be staying away from the sashimi. I was disappointed! read more

I like Okie Dokie because it is laid back. Always has people in it sitting at the bar or at the tables. The rolls are good, I've never had a 'bad' one. I also like the sashimi salad. It is huge, I can rarely finish it all. There are daily specials or if it is not too busy you can sit at the bar and ask them to make a "specialty" for you - something off menu. Take out is also available. The parking lot sucks - tiny and it is shared with a 7-Eleven and a pizza place. Try some of the side streets for free street parking. read more

One word for this sushi joint, bland. I ordered a combo with 5 pieces crunch rolls, and 4 pieces California rolls, and an order of salmon roe sushi tonight. Here is my take, The salmon roes were old, lumpy and lifeless, all hurdled on an oblong shaped piece of rice. The formation was not inviting, the two pieces were curled up in a way as if they were moaning for stomach ache. I wouldn't have eat it if I wasn't ravishingly hungry after my failure of getting a table at the almighty Benihana. The combo was ok, except it was bland at its best. The crunch rolls were not crunchy, but sticky. There were hardly any smelt eggs on it, poor thing, please let it be more adorned next time. It wasn't a "wow" experience. I have been going to Oki Doki faithfully for over two years now and have experienced their dine in and take out options and am happy with their service. I absolutely love their service and their consistency even when it is busy the staff does their best to cater to the customers needs promptly. The dine in experience is really neat, especially if you sit at the bar. Upon arrival you are greeted by a very cheerful sushi chef and also given complementary tempura albacore. Might I add, the music there is bomb! (I'm always jammin out!) I've had a lot if items off the menu; the chicken udon soup is so comforting and fresh at the same time, and also their salads are of substantial portions yet great quality. Their hand rolls are by far my favorite! I usually get the Hungry Roll, Crazy Roll, Snowcone Roll, Alaska Roll and Vegas Roll. Everything essentially is great, but after all this time these are still my 'go-to' rolls. By the way, these rolls are huge compared to neighboring sushi restaurants. If you are looking for good sushi at reasonable prices then this is the place. If you are very uptight about how fancy a sushi place needs to be then this is not for you. The decor and atmosphere is as basic as it gets. If you want to grab some very good and fresh sushi at a good price then get into some shorts, a t-shirt and flip flops, and make yourself at home. This is not elegant dining. The quality goes into the food. First and foremost, that sashimi salad is out of this world. I order that every time I go there. It is a MUST try. The sushi, rolls, sashimi and hand rolls are all quite good and I have hurt myself trying to finish it all. I give it a 4 star rating because the the combination of food quality, price and ease of visiting a casual sushi bar make this a great find. I will definitely return time and again. I frequent this place about 2-3 times a week and they all know me and greet me just the same every time. I really don't understand why this place has so many reviews and 4 stars. This place is at best OK and not even that in my opinion. Sushi is always soft and not tightly wrapped, fish tastes like it's been sitting out all day. Not fresh. I've tried this place for pick up, delivery, and even eat in and it always disappoints. The only reason why I give it 2 starts instead of one is because its a step above from cheap super market sushi. But for the price not worth it at all you are better off going to whole foods better price and better fish. read more

This usually where I get sushi. They've got some good sushi and have some decent combo deals for around $17 + tax + tip if you want to keep it cheap. They've also got some delicious rolls and I highly recommend the sweet shrimp, it's awesome. You get a whole shrimp (with the head and all). The top half is friend and the bottom half is served sashimi style. The superman roll and fire roll are also awesome. I am still on the basics, but man if you told me california rolls could taste this good, whoo I wouldn't believe it. When I'm here at school in the East Coast, when it comes to sushi, I miss this place as much as I miss In-N-Out for burgers. And, to say the least, I am OBSESSED with In-N-Out. I have recommended this small place to many of my friends who are usually reluctant to make the drive from 90275 to hermosa beach. But after trying this place, they instantly become repeat visitors. There has not been one roll I've ordered that I have regretted ordering. And most importantly of all (from my experiences here in Baltimore and in LA), this is one of the most affordable sushi places I have ever been to, hands down. Almost all the rolls (with the exception of their seemingly static specials board) are under 10 dollars, which, to west coast standards, is relatively rare, let alone the east coast, where those places don't exist. overall, the service is very friendly, regardless of age. they used to have only one waitress managing the customers when i first started coming here, but due to the recent spike in popularity, they have hired another waitress to help out. free edamame and free (on-the-house) fried albacore (most of the times that i've gone at least...) top off this great and enjoyable place to dine. read more

Ehh...Fish is definitely not as fresh as other places in the southbay. I'd rather pay a premium to eat fresh fish then to eat fish that's a bit sketchy. Also the location is in a strip mall and it's like eating at a fast food restaurant. Bad ambiance, bad interior, not good for date night. If I could eat sushi everyday i would that's how much I love sushi. I'd love to find an amazing sushi place without ridiculous prices. What a great little sushi place! Its a small corner restaraunt in a shopping center, you could almost miss it. I came here with my boyfriend and his parents for his birthday. We sat down and were immediately served edamame, a slices of sweet cucumber wasabi and ginger slivers. The waitress then came out with what we thought was chicken, but I read from another review that is was albacore? Either way it was tempura style with a sauce and was absolutely delicious. Luckily before I had to order i was given some recommendations of which rolls were the best. I ended up ordering the crunch roll. We also ordered the sashimi salad which was phenomenal. The food came very swiftly, although it did come out one by one, mine first, so i waited for eveyone else to get theirs. Once everyone got their food we started eating. The rolls are very very delicious, and there are a great variety of them! After we were done (i couldn't finish all of mine) we sat and chatted for a while and no one seemed ticked that we were sitting longer. I recently had the pleasure of a return visit to this fine sushi restaurant. I get out to the LA area quite often, and always try to make a point of stopping by. I'm a bit of a purist and tend to stick to the Nigiri rather then any of the elaborate rolls. Both the fish and the rice used are very high quality and the sushi is expertly constructed with a good fish to rice ratio. The prices here are quite reasonable, certainly much cheaper than what I have to pay on the East coast! The staff here - both those behind the sushi bar and the wait staff are friendly and welcoming. Don't be put off by the modest location in an unassuming shopping strip on the PCH. Also be aware that there is very limited parking available (just a few spaces). read more

I went to Oki Doki Sushi tonight for takeout after I read the reviews on yelp. Needless to say, it was not everything that people had made it out to be. My friends and I ordered the gyoza, miso soup, beef teriyaki, chicken teriyaki, california roll, salmon (sake), spicy shrimp roll, and the t.n.t. roll. The gyoza was fine, but it was nothing special. The miso soup tasted like something I could have gotten at the supermarket and the california roll was decent. Unfortunately, the beef teriyaki looked atrocious and tasted like roadkill cooked with grease. The chicken teriyaki was also cooked very strange. The T.N.T. was pretty good but not very special. The spicy shrimp roll showed no signs of shrimp and tasted extremely salty. The Salmon (sake) was awesome! So 1 out of 8! I have to say I probably won't be going there again unless I want fresh, cheap Salmon (sake). read more
