This is a great sushi place. The decor is a little lacking, but more than makes up for it with the food. The sashimi is super fresh and you get a lot for the money. Thinking that this place was going to be good from all the yelp reviews, I had high hopes. And maybe it was the choice of rolls we picks that were bad, but everything was way too saucy. They were masking all the sushi with sauces that just made it taste like nothing. Also most of the tables were white people, which is never a great sign. If you don't see Japanese people there, it must not be that good. And this place was not good. I had a stomach ache after the meal that still lingers in my memory. This is my favorite sushi spot. The only down side is that some of the rolls are so big so they are hard to fit in your mouth. But despite that, my boyfriend and I come here almost 2 times a month its just so yummy! Try the Hermosa Roll you will not be disappointed. read more

when you first see oki doki sushi, in the same shopping center as a crappy pizza joint and a 7/11, you would think you're in for some nasty sushi. You would be wrong. Oki doki has consistently had some of the best sushi I've ever had. Their fish is so fresh it looks like it should be in an ad. The rolls are very well done, and the service is really good. The fish is so good it's one of the only sushi bars I order the sashimi plate at. Plus, a lot of the time's i've been there they throw complimentary appetizers down. This is my spot, and has been my spot for years now. You get nice succulent melt in your mouth fish it's not too fishy the pure definition of sushi. Very generous portions for a very reasonable price, and just as good as the Beverly Hills and downtown expensive sushi places that I've been to. No. No. No. Nonono. That's all I can think when I'm driving around with someone and they're innocently yelping trying to find a sushi place for us to have lunch, and suddenly suggest Oki Doki. The answer is no. I went here once and it was traumatic. They served fish that was NOT fresh and had been frozen previously. How do I know? THE SMELL. Sushi should never SMELL. I didn't eat a damn thing except for a piece of California roll and I was even suspicious of how fresh or edible that was. I'm not really sure why this place has so many high ratings... it could be the lack of good sushi in the area? Or that local people don't know what real sushi is? Thank god I ordered from a lunch menu and didn't plan on a serious session. Shrimp sushi was flat and rubbery. Tuna sushi was splitting so that wasn't fresh either. Firstly - let me tell you what Oki Doki is NOT! It is not Kiriko, Nozomi, Sasabune, etc. You do not go there for rare fishes, omakase, seasonal offerings, heritage rice, or unique sauces. You do go there for 4 basic reasons : #1 - The staff is friendly, patient, polite, knows you by face, will not scoff at any order, and will remember any of your idiosyncrasies. You will also get GRATIS edamame, cucumber salad, and yellowtail tempura with every order. The water always comes filtered, with lemon, and a straw. Ginger tastes fresh pickled and is replenished consistently. #2 - It has $8 lunches which will fill you, and will include very fresh fish. Usually it consists of miso soup, basic greens, white rice, 2 fried dumplings, 4 pieces of tuna roll, and 4 pieces of sushi, plus the aforementioned free stuff. Try to beat that deal, anywhere. #3 - It is packed every night - so basic fish is very fresh, and each one gets correct treatment/cut/sauce/marinade/embellishment. It is very well portioned, rice is right temperature, properly vinegared, and usually after the Chef knows you - you will score a few extra sashimi pieces with your order. #4 - It is THE place for "beach stoner sushi" - wild rolls (including riceless ones), with odd toppings and combinations. It's kind of a South Bay Beach phenomena AFAIK - and it's best priced, cut, and sauced here. I.e. you can get for $18 (besides the free stuff) a platter with a huge, funky 8 piece roll, 8 piece tuna roll, and very solid 10 or 12 pieces of nigiri sushi + miso soup. Usually that is enough for a hungry couple. Once you're a regular and show that you treat the place + food with proper respect - your fish will be just a touch more vibrant, and free sashimi pieces a bit more frequent. For your everyday sushi joint or when you've crazy munchies at 9.45 pm this place can not be beat for my $ anywhere in LA. read more

Nice staff who happen to be Korean. Needless to say they don't serve Korean BBQ or Galbi. They have many creative rolls. Some sushi was not as fresh as I like it compared to hard core and decently priced places like Hide in West LA. Ordered the uni (sea urchin). It was NOT fresh -uni needs to be served very fresh and thrown away if not served after one day. It tasted wrong but it was too late, I ate enough to get a very violent bout of diarrhea and vomiting the same evening. Oki Doki Sushi is definitely more than just oki doki. They have great deals for their lunch, which consists of combos $6-8. They have a variety of tasty rolls, soups, salads, and all things Japanese. I really loved the Fuji roll and seaweed salad in particular. Their portions are generous. They give you complimentary edamame, which everyone can appreciate. Their service is also great. Just got finished with dinner there, and I was very pleased. I just moved here a couple months back, and was looking for a good, relatively inexpensive (because no sushi is really that cheap) sushi, and I can now say I've found my place. Okay, so maybe it helps that it's only a few blocks away from my apartment, but there are other sushi places closer with much worse quality (I'm talking to you Sushi Duke). The sushi was fresh, and the service was very quick. I will definitely be going back. My one complaint is that the appetizer I ordered (Gyoza) came after my sushi...but now I'm just splitting hairs. I know it looks like a little hole in the wall, but those are usually the best places to go to anyway, right? read more

I have been coming to Oki Doki for 5 years now. It is by far my favorite sushi place. It is not very expensive but they have so many great specialty rolls I always leave satisfied. Some of the creamy rolls are heavy for sushi but they are worth any pain cream/mayo may bring. They can get very busy at times but I eat early to avoid crowds. When I lived close I ordered take out. They do a lot of take out business. A true hidden gem in the south bay. I enjoy the food much better than places like Sushi Roku and the trendy places. read more

Oh my goodness do I miss this place!!! One of the best Sushi spots in Los Angeles. The restaurant is extremely small though and it gets very busy. Expect to wait outside. Also, there isn't a ton of parking since they are located in a small strip mall. The wait is worth it though. The fish is always fresh and the sushi chefs are incredible. My favorite is the Philly Roll but you should ask them to add Jalapeños to it. Its incredible!!!! read more
