My boyfriend and I ordered Okra for lunch today and it was so unbelievably good. I ordered a make your own bowl with shrimp, fresh veggies, spinach sauce, and red rice. Everything was so fresh, and the shrimp was out of this world! All the flavors came out perfectly with just the right amount of spice. We discovered Okra African Grill as it's close to our new home and we are so glad we did! The portions are large and typically enough for two meals. There are a large number of selections and everything is customizable. I've had the peanut butter chicken each time with plantains and sweet potatoes. Staff is very friendly and I've appreciated them answering all my questions each time as some of the foods are less familiar to me. A couple of times we've been able to chat with the owner Nina and she is very kind. She has a great story and we are rooting for her success. And we are glad she is running her wonderful restaurant so close to us! read more

I cannot say enough great things about Okra. The food is fantastic, amazing flavors I've never had before without being too different to scare me away. Haven't been to the actual location yet, but I work very close and get it delivered fairly often and have turned a few people on to it at work. It's so well-designed, I thought it was a chain. (lol) No way - read their About page! Service was delightfully friendly. (ie smiles, paying careful attention to my order, and not forcing me to small talk, hah.) Food was fresh, delicious, and beautiful. I ordered my food online. I ordered the Ablo and an order of Plantains. When I got to the restaurant, they had not seen my order, but it really didn't matter because they were so fast. They immediately started preparing my order and it was ready....like BAM! No delays whatsoever! The food was very fresh and very health inspired. The sweet rice dumplings were very unique and not like anything I've had before. They were delicious! The skewers of grilled beef were very spicy! It was actually a pleasant surprise because I was not expecting that spice when I bit into the meat. Wow! It may be too spicy for some people, but I loved it. The Plantains were very addictive. They were slightly sweet flavored and they complimented the skewered beef really well, so I am so glad that I ordered them! I will definitely go back and try the other dishes. It's a good to see a tastier, probably healthier, and probably less exploitative option of "fast food"--more like Chipotle style and counter service--especially given the location. Aside from being too much like Chipotle in its setup, the food is good. I had never had African food before but it is delicious. I wish the place would take it up a notch with real plates and silverware and such. read more

I am constantly craving their plantains. Sooo good. We live the red rice. Have had the fish, chicken and kabob. All very good. Reasonable prices. I have stayed in Omaha since the business opened up, however this is my first time reviewing a restaurant ever because the customer service was the worst. The guy that was in the store kept on being rude whilst handling my food to the point where l had to leave. Africans need to start other Africans better when we are supporting businesses. I don't have an issue with the owner, but the staff/family probably, they're very very rude!!!!!! read more

Great place, glad they're open again after the move. Very tasty and convenient, service is prompt and pleasant. The prices can be a little high but the portions are generous and the quality is great, especially on the produce--never a sad or wilted vegetable in sight. First time there and would return. I tried the high protein steak bowl with peanut sauce and the ginger lemonade and ate in the restaurant. 5/5 for food My meal had well balanced seasoning on the components of the bowl and they were fantastic when mixed. The drink complemented it well as a palate cleanser and was clearly made with high quality, fresh ingredients. I took about a third of my food and over half my drink with me as the meal was quite filling. 3/5 for experience/value The meal does feel a bit pricy at over $16 for a lunch and soft drink if compared to a similar meal elsewhere ( for example a meat/beans/pico bowl at Chipotle) but the quality here is worth the cost. But the biggest area to improve was in customer service and that may be a fluke. Will update if I visit again before moving. read more

The food was so good that I gave it a 3. If I was just rating the food it would be a 5. Ordered online and was told my order would be ready to pick up in 30 min. When I got there and called, they said "10 minutes." By the sound of it, I don't think they ever saw or started it at that point. So now it's an hour and 5 minutes past when I ordered, I called again and he said they'd have it out (came out while I was typing this). I understand it's not easy - but it's been almost a year since this stuff started: Don't offer things you can't do. And certainly don't lie to me when I call - there is no way they had started my food before I got there and it still wasn't ready for another 30 min. The food was outstanding though. So, I guess dine in when you can, or call and double check your order if you do it online. read more

Placed an order through grub hub. It was delivered fine. But the order was wrong. The bowl was the be vegetarian. But it contained meat. Also requested a side which was not included. Called the Resturant but They said I needed to request a credit through grub hub. I asked them to just send the correct order through their own grub hub account. Called later and the owner said she had called grub hub and that they said I already requested a refund. Grub hub sent me an email the credit of $3.99 was requested by the owner of the Resturant. So the owner refused to correct their mistake and then called me a liar. When I called to attempt a final resolution she began yelling at me. Never again will I pay $40.00 to have someone yell at me. This place is GREAT!!! My wife and I have visited twice, and it has become one of our favorites already. Everyone is so friendly and glad to answer questions from African food neophytes such as me! The plantains are just off the chart good. I do not know if it has been added to the permanent menu yet or not, but the Egusi soup is amazing. The only drawback I found was the beignets. They are more of a reheated doughnut than a beignet. They are OK, but I would really prefer a freshly made beignet, than just a reheated doughnut. I am eating there again tomorrow! read more

This was our first foray into African food. Let me just say I was quite impressed. The ordering and menu are reminiscent of chipotle. Options for base, meat and toppings are extensive. Everything we had tasted great. It is a little pricey for fast food type restaurant but the portions are generous. My only complaint is that the kebab meat was a little mushy, like it had been over tenderized. read more

A nice fast food alternative to the regular offerings. Make your own bowls seem to be the option of choice. There is a good selection of toppings, and you can choose from three sauces.
