Our visit to Ol' South Pancakes House in Burleson, TX, on Easter Sunday was a nice one. We expected a long wait for our party of five on this holiday Sunday, but only had about a minute or two before we were seated around 10:30am. Everyone in our party opted for the Classic breakfast, but each added a bit of customization. I chose the scrambled eggs, two sausage patties, accompanied by two huge, fluffy biscuits with a big bowl of gravy. All meals were prepared just right and delivery quickly by our friendly wait staff (and the handy robot). My eggs and sausage were good, typical breakfast fare, but the biscuits were the highlight - very tall and fluffy! Coffee was also quite tasty and plentiful. Came here on a recommendation. When we arrived the place was packed. Once we were seated the manager got us drinks going while we were waiting for the server. We had a fantastic brunch here. My husband says the pancakes were the best he's ever had. I had the chicken fried steak and it was great. I ordered to-go but this place give Walker Brothers vibes. I only ordered a salad, but I don't expect that I will eat here much, if at all. The salad was ok, but nothing to brag about. Food was great....service meh...was ask to go there from a friend who traveled from Granbury TX to take my husband and I out as a thank you. This was 1st time for all of us! Friend from out of town went to pay bill and there was a 22% mandatory tip. No where in signage, on menu, or explaination referencing tip until she went to pay. A tip is just that but hey they had a robot that is Bluetooth (who cares). We were all offended. The wife has been craving some breakfast food for dinner for sometime. We looked at some options and decided on this Ol Pancake House after and lengthy discussion lol I decided to get the classic Denver Omelet which came with the normal diced ham, green peppers, onions and bell peppers which came to $10.79 which is not a bad price at all. I also added biscuits and gravy with sausage at $5.29. Would have to say that my Denver Omelet was just ok. I did really enjoy the biscuits and gravy though Our server Michael T was top notch very attentive and gave top notch service The ambience is typical of a breakfast place, but a fun highlight was the robot that brought out our food having Christmas music playing, which was super fun! I do want to come back and try their famous Dutch baby (German Pancake) which we found out after that it's their staple in the restaurant. I LOVE the Ol' South Pancake House in Fort Worth. I in fact used to coerce my ex wife into driving 4 hours by simply serving her coffee in a branded mug. That didn't work? Me sipping my beverages out of said cup in photographs to until she relented. Present day my GF loves it too; an integral part of any visit to the metroplex. 3am the morning we're gonna head north and I already am awake and ready to roll. Make some tea for my teen and a quick shower and we made it to the Burleson location at 8:30am. Cute downtown and the restaurant fits right in. Nice space; similar format to the FW location. German pancakes here I come! Prepared tableside; for this visit they were perfect. This bumped the star rating up. Not so perfect items accompanied them unfortunately. Scrambled eggs...I've had better at fast food restaurants. Hibachi style chopped into oblivion; wished I got a pic because I took one bite and moved the dish to the other side of the table for disposal. Zero fluff and flavorless! Kill Bill 3? Biscuits spent too much time in the oven and weren't the golden tops they were supposed to be. Gravy was acceptable as was the service; off day I hope. I love this mini chain (2 restaurants). This establishment is obviously managed extremely well. We love Dustin the GM! Dustin and his staff provided an excellent dining experience for our group. They went out of their way to accommodate our large group (19) during the busiest time of the week. My wife and I have never been to ol pancake house and were excited to try it. As you see in my picture, we tried almost everything (except what they're known for) and were pretty disappointed. Pros: our waitress was very kind and accommodating and it was very empty. They also have a robot serve you your food, which I thought was a little strange but can be fun for others. The chicken in my Chicken n Waffles meal was very flavorful and saved the meal. Cons: waffles were recommended over the pancakes and they were very bland with little to no flavor. The fruit was old and the line cooks had cut out the "bad parts" of the fruit and still served it to us. The coffee bacon, turkey bacon and eggs were nothing to write home about and the biscuits were dry and over cooked. I think we were hoping to have a "local Cracker Barrel" experience and got a sad and overpriced meal. Again, we didn't get the pancakes at a pancake house and maybe that was our mistake. Would recommend visiting Cracker Barrel, Our Place or Elks Diner if you're looking for quality for a good price. read more

I chose their popular German pancakes and didn't like them. The pancakes were way too sweet that I could literally taste the diabetes. It's funny because I specifically asked for no powdered sugar but they still added it anyways. Our server was nice but maybe a notepad would be better than just memorizing the order. My wife didn't have a good experience either when she called the restaurant to ask if the biscuits and gravy had eggs in it. They told her no on the phone but said yes after we ordered them in the restaurant. She's allergic to eggs by the way. I will try again and the next time I'll ask again for no sugar and maybe no lemon either on my German pancake. read more

I went here to have breakfast with my friends on New Year's Day. The place was busy and staff was extremely friendly! When I think of southern food (as the restaurant name says) I immediately think flavorful! Unfortunately, this was not where it was at! Seating was quick and our server was very attentive to our needs. The food was brought out in a reasonable amount of time and it was warm but the flavor was lacking. Presentation was nice, we got what we ordered but the flavor fell very flat. The Dutch sampler was all the same base with simple different toppings that didn't leave desire to try the next one, the pancakes were fluffy but lacked any sweetness and were extremely bland. The turkey bacon wasn't crispy and was sad. The eggs were basic hotel scrambled eggs you could find anywhere that were very underwhelming and the only thing we enjoyed was the fresh fruit we requested to top things off. The waffle was a basic machine made waffle, not even looking homemade or restaurant made. I was hoping to like this place to add it as a frequent to bring guests since we like to show off our neck of the woods but it just didn't give me a desire to even look back. We did love their service and the staff was great so we tipped well simply on that, however the food is lacking greatly and it's not that I have a sweet tooth or am picky, it was just very sad and disappointing to see I was getting "motel" style food at a breakfast restaurant. If that's what you're looking for, then check them out. You'll enjoy the cozy feel of it. Otherwise, the food will just disappoint you. Go in with an open mind, it might be for you, it definitely was and is not for us. I would love to give more stars on service alone but this is a food review so I have to keep it real. read more

5 stars! Saturday at a breakfast restaurant is always crazy. Our family of 5 was quoted 20 minutes and it was true to the minute. The place was packed. As soon as we got seated our server was very busy yet she was amazing. We did not have to wait for refills and she continued to see if we needed anything. A gentleman cleaning a table (come to find out he was the manger) accidentally spilled condiments on the floor and my son reacted quick to help him clean the mess. At the end of our meal, our check was taken care of by the resturant manager Dustin. He was the kindest man to gift us such a wonderful meal out of my sons kindness to help him . So we intended to go to The Original Pancake House but clicked the wrong location and this was the best mistake we could make. I'm so glad we tried this place. The lemon German Pancakes were tasty and something different. Our server Nieyla was on top of everything! She knew the menu in and out, was super friendly and attentive and I couldn't have asked for better service. The eggs benedict was delicious too. Consistency in food delivery is a big part of what makes a dining experience enjoyable, and this time it fell short. We had great service, a really nice breakfast with leftovers for the next day. Seated very quickly and it was packed. My soft scrambled eggs were PERFECT. Biscuits and gravy my hubbie really enjoyed. Instead of bacon or sausage, I had the grilled jalapeño cheese sausage!!! DELICIOUS. Only meh I felt was I wanted blueberries in my waffles.... I got thawed frozen blueberries on top of my waffle which made the center a soggy bleeech. So note for others- they do NOT put fresh blueberries into the waffles and cook it. As a young child, I pestered my Slovak grandmother to "make big pancakes grandma, please!" I didn't know at that age that she was serving up crapes, on which butter was melted, sugar sprinkled lightly, the crape folded up like a tootsie roll and cut into little "tires". It has a outdoor patio seating overlooking a very busy street making it seem as if you're in a large city. INDOORS (5/10) The decor is very southern and you can smell the humidity inside. It reminds me of a cafe dinner. I do recommend for it to be better ventilated and cleaned. WAITING TIME (10/10) We didn't have to wait on a Tuesday around 1pm. Normally this would be a 2 star rating but the service was very good. I ordered a grapefruit juice and eggs Benedict. The grapefruit juice was bottle ocean spray ruby red. While I didn't expect fresh squeezed, I did expect something a bit closer to traditional tart and sour grapefruit juice. Probably worst eggs Benedict I've ever had. Very sloppy, not stacked up like you usually see with a tightly poached egg but almost more platter style with way too much hollandaise, way under toasted bread. The ham was pretty good hear though to save the dish. My partner had breakfast tacos with sausage. There was just nothing about them that was special. One could make better at home. Some eggs scrambled up with some sausage and thrown into a tortilla. Bland, basic and very below average. Service was excellent. Friendly hostess, friendly server. I have been waiting for soooo long for our Burleson Ol' South to open! Now that it's here and open, I can't quit eating here! I absolutely love their breakfast - so many choices and so much deliciousness!! My favs are the pancakes, waffles, crepes and Dutch babies. The Dutch babies are to die for. If you haven't ever had one, do yourself a favor and get one! Dusted with powdered sugar and drenched in lemon and butter, these things will make your tail wag! Also, the coffee is so good as is pretty much everything on the menu. The service is a bit slow as they are just getting rolling, but everyone is so very friendly and helpful and I expect this will correct itself as things settle in. I fully anticipate many more happy visits will be in my very near future. So happy OS is here!!! read more
