My wife and I'd been running around taking care of errands and decided to stop for dinner at Blue Mound Cafe. As usual, Marla. was manning the front area. She's usually the first person we see when dining at Blue Mound Cafe. We normally come by for breakfast but this time it was for dinner. After being seated, Marla took our drink orders, two unsweetened teas please! We looked over the specials on the white board so we could make our decisions. My wife decided to order the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and corn. I decided on liver and onions, fried okra, and mashed potatoes. Both of our dinner entrees were HUGE and one would had been plenty for two. My liver and onions were good, I hadn't had liver in a long time. Awesome mashed potatoes and fried okra. But the stellar star of the evening was Terry's chicken fried steak. It was one of the best either one of us have ever had. Marla took excellent care of us throughout our visit. Dropped off our son at work and needed a breakfast spot & found Blue Mound Cafe on Little Rd. Turned out to be a perfect spot; not only was Blue Mound Cafe close to his job site but I knew instantly when we walked in that I found a cute little gem! This place has the usual cafe decor with plenty of seating available. The staff was friendly and made sure we knew the specials for the day before we ordered. My son ordered the silver dollar pancakes, which were much larger than we expected. He said they tasted good and couldn't even finish them all. I ordered the BLT which was PACKED full of bacon! The bread was toasted nicely and I upgraded my fries to onion rings. The onion rings had a great flavor. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak, which he also enjoyed. We went on the first Sunday they were open and really enjoyed it. We got there mid-morning, right before the rush. The servers were attentive & friendly. They keep your coffee cup filled. The coffee was really good, like a smooth medium dark roast. The portions are MASSIVE and our food was very good. I got the breakfast quesadillas with bacon. They are stuffed! I couldn't even eat half the quesadillas and kept eating the hash browns but they seemed to be never ending. The salsa is really good! The box of leftovers felt like it weighed 5 lbs, lol. My Mom enjoyed her senior breakfast. The only thing that could have improved for the business is the older woman with short white hair working the hostess stand and register could have kept her comments to herself or a staff only area. She kept making comments like "just terrible" "such a disaster" while huffing and puffing. And from my perspective as a diner, we had a good time, saw staff working together to figure things out, lots of tables smiling with food on the tables & we enjoyed our food and service. We tried the new Blue Mound Cafe yesterday. They are not stingy with anything. We each had 1/2 lb of bacon on each plate and hash browns enough for two. I met friends for lunch a little after noon time on a Friday. When I walked in there were maybe 2-3 other customers at tables. Yes we were a larger group of 8 but that does not excuse the poor service we received. Our server seemed overwhelmed, forgetful and unable to manage more than one task at a time. We asked for straws and she forgot. She didn't return to check on us for a long while and when I requested more coffee she forgot. She was confused about diving the check and had to do it twice and it was still incorrect. I ordered steak and eggs which comes with potatoes. Since it was national french fry day I ask for fries. She explained their potatoes are like fries but in cubes. It was a confusing explanation to say the least. When I received my steak it was served with home fries, yet my friend had a burger and regular fries. The quality of the food was below standard. There were few healthy options and nothing fresh on the menu. No fruit, no avocado, nothing that would brighten up a dish. My food was warm and not hot. Pancakes were completely drenched in red syrupy sauce and the burger ordered was raw and had to be returned. What could be improved is the training for servers and kitchen and provide a higher quality of food. I will not return since there are too many other breakfast places that offer healthy and fresh choices with far better service. read more

Tried Blue Mound Cafe tonight for the first time. Stopped in for an early dinner. The café is tastefully decorated and has plentiful seating. Our server, Isabella was great! When taking our order, she asked great questions and once the food came out she remained attentive but not intrusive. Everything we tried was delicious. Nothing came out cold. We also found the restaurant to be extremely clean! I saw the reviews about things sliding around on the table and we experienced the same thing. The only difference is that nothing was dirty or "greasy". We found the texture of the table tops caused the sliding and it was not the end of the world. We will definitely be back! read more

We ordered Blue Mound through Door Dash tonight. The food was tasty, well seasoned but both our meats were overcooked and hard to eat. My smothered pork chops were extremely thin so totally dry and tough; seasoned well and gravy was only thing that made them edible. Hubby's crust on chicken fried steak was difficult to eat because too crunchy, meat dry from over cooking. Ridiculous that their cooks don't know how to cook or that residual heat will continue to cook food until it's ruined. read more

Came here for breakfast with a party of ten. Food was just ok. Nothing special or memorable, Biscuits and gravy were average at best. My wife's omelette was more cheese than egg. Not good. Main comment is about their tipping and credit card policies. Standard gratuity on a large party is 25% on the gross, not subtotal. Plus another 3.5% on credit or debit cards. Getting nickel and dimed like that just leaves a bad taste. We have no problem tipping more than 20% for outstanding service but for that to be the standard rubs us the wrong way. Then to charge 3.5% for even a debit card is just poor form. So our $55 subtotal became $75. We won't be back. read more

This seems like a good solid breakfast place. They haven't been open too long. We went real early and no wait. I had the Texas omelette. Chili tasted really good and plenty of cheese. Order your hash browns crispy as they're Sysco. Wife had Berry French toast. Kinda blah. Fresh strawberries in Sysco strawberry goo. Plenty of bacon on the plate but borderline burnt. Yall, this was some good eating! I had chicken tenders and fries with homey mustard sauce. That batter was amazing. It was not fried too hard, as many places do now. Our server, Jaunita (sorry if that's spelled wrong) was wonderful. Mom couldnt read the menu (the blocking and coloring for the menu aren't great, which is my only gripe). So mom told Jaunita what she wanted to eat, and Jaunita told her exactly what dish it was. She was so patient and kind a d knows the menu. We live in the neighborhood right behind it so we pass it all the time. I got the Ol' Timer smoked sausage and egg sammich. Their hash browns are so good! The sandwich itself was also really good! Boyfriend got the Dirty Rooster without the peppers and onions. That was really good too! Very fresh and homemade tastes. Overall, definitely recommend based on first impressions. We went when they first opened. The chicken fried steak was wonderful. Could not have been happier. We went back and ordered chicken fried steak as special. We could barely cut it. We could not even chew it. We called the waitress over, told her it was tough, and we could not chew it. She took it and asked us what we wanted instead. We settled on chicken. We waited what seemed like forever. The waitress ignored us. We had to get up and ask another waitress for more tea. The waitress came out and dropped the chicken on the table without a word. It was barely warm. She continued to ignore us.We had to ask another waitress for a piece of cake the original waitress came and asked us if we would be taking it with us. We said no, we would eat it there. She came back and dropped the cake and our ticket on the table once again without a word.The cake slice was huge, but there was nothing to write home about. Never once did a manager come over and talk to us about the returned plates of unbeaten food. I have never not had a manager come talk to us about returned food. We get it. Sometimes, it just happens. The fact that the manager did not speak to us makes me wonder if they weren't doing bait and switch and using different meat when the chicken fried steak was on special. As we went to pay, the person next to us was having trouble getting their ticket corrected. They were charged for 2 pieces of cake, and they only had one. The girl at the register kept asking them if they wanted another piece of cake. They kept saying no. Don't know how they finally resolved it. There was another couple trying to get their ticket adjusted because they were charged for sprites when they had water. Don't know how that one was resolved, either.
