This place is a diamond in the rough. I had no idea it existed until I took a summer job down the road. My coworkers frequent there. So, I've been going the last few weeks. A lot. There are a few things I love about this place: 1. The service I love that they make everything right in front of you. It allows you to personalize your order and reminds you how fresh it is. The owner is a very nice man, who is there most mornings and always up for a chat. He's very friendly and quick with your orders. The guy who has been there every morning when I've gone in is also super friendly, not to mention efficient and patient. 2. The variety There is a lot of variety at this little place. They offer a lot of different kinds of items, and then within the items there is even more variety! They have a great selection of breads for sandwiches, cheeses, veggies, meats. There's a lot of other things besides sandwiches they offer as well. There is also always some sort of free sample going on! Overall, I have this place 5 stars for the good quality of food, the great selection of choices, and the superb service. My summer program is coming to an end so I won't be going as much, and that makes me sad. ps When I went in this morning the owner was trying out "egg and cheese mini bites". I tried one. We were visiting from out of town and stumbled across this little spot near our Airbnb. The coffee was great and the food tasted delicious and homemade. We had the omelet, French toast and the breakfast sandwich. this was a repeat during our stay here. Only con was they were short staffed so the wait is a little long, but we sat outside drinking our ice coffee. read more

This place is so cute. A definite gem in East Somerville. My latte was strong and delicious, and my made-to-order egg sandwich was cooked perfectly. The folks behind the counter were sweet and helpful, checking to make sure that every part of my order was exactly the way I wanted. You have a choice of croissant, various bagels, or English muffin for the sandwich, and I went with the whole wheat bagel, buttered and toasted. The coffee and sandwich were the perfect breakfast for a cold drizzly rainy day. The menu lists a variety of sandwich options as well as coffee and fruit smoothie options. There's a bunch of cereals, chips, baked goods (including Portuguese sweet bread, cookies, muffins, cakes) and some fruit for gnoshing as well. As others have noted this place is tiny, with a small counter with about 4 or so seats inside. So I'd say it's best for takeout. No bathroom as far as I can see. read more

Walk in for a coffee and breakfast, see a sign for "peanut butter and banana sandwich," and ask for that. The girl, whose name is Diana, says "Do you want another banana?" "Um.. in addition to the banana on the sandwich?" "Do you want a banana or what?" "Doesn't it come with banana?" "I don't know, you're pointing at the sign, so you tell me what you want." Legitimately confused at this point what a "peanut butter and banana sandwich" entails, I say, "You can make it however you're used to making it." She huffs off to slam some bread around and finally to shove a bag at me. It does, in fact, consist of both peanut butter AND banana. I come here often with my co-workers (as we work around the corner), and I like to support the man who owns the place, I believe, so I hope this particular young lady is not behind the counter again. Despite living right around the corner, I haven't been to Ola Cafe until just now. I grabbed a coffee for my bf, a latte for myself, & a sausage/egg/cheese on a croissant for us to share. The man who took my order wasn't particularly warm & welcoming, but I guess I wouldn't be that early in the morning. He made a decent skim latte, so that's really all I care about. The man who made the breakfast sandwich (the owner) was very friendly. I told him it was my first time there and he thanked me for stopping in. The breakfast sandwich was awesome - it was big, definitely enough to share. I tried some of my bf's coffee and it was excellent...and we're both pretty picky since we drink it black. I'm so glad this place exists in East Somerville - I will definitely be back to get my coffee & breakfast sandwich fix. read more

This place is not bad at all. Or at least used to be not bad. It used to have friendly customer service. Now it doesn't. I've been a regular there for at least a year and right now is the worst I've seen it. I mean.. if you want people to come back you might as well make them feel welcomed. I once told the lady at the register that she didn't make exactly what I asked her for and guess what? Nothing. No attempts to make it right. No apologies. Very cute small coffee shop in East Somerville. The owner is super friendly and the atmosphere is inviting. I had an iced coffee and breakfast sandwich with egg, avocado, tomato and ham. It was very good. Everything, besides the pastries, is made right then and there so plan on having a few minutes to spare. They are quick and efficient though so just hang out on the bar stools by the window OR better yet, hang out and enjoy your breakfast there. If its nice out, they have seating outside and about 5 bar stools in the front. Both my coffee and sandwich came in at $8.50. Not bad! I will be back. read more

Cafe Gifts Ola is great, and a definite part of my morning routine most days. It's obvious to anyone who walks in that the owner and his staff take great care and pride in everything they do. They're friendly and polite (how often do you hear "sir" and "ma'am" in Boston?), but they also serve a damn good iced coffee. It's stronger, more flavorful and bigger than DDs. read more

Yes it can slow down the process of getting in and out with your morning coffee fix but well worth the few extra minutes needed. Everything in this tiny place is yummy looking and made with love. This place is a hidden gem in a hole in the wall in East Somerville! The girls who work here are so sweet and friendly that it makes me want to keep coming back. This place is right up the road from my house and a perfect little breakfast stop. Their Columbian coffee is probably the best in the city; it tastes authentic and dark and delicious! Solid breakfast sandwiches, tasty baked goods, and usually they have free samples on the counter to taste while you wait. Service is quick and prices are very fair. I'm not from the area but have been working in the area for that last few weeks. We stumbled upon this cafe, checked the ratings on Yelp and decided to give it a shot. We were hooked right away! Food is great, price even better and we were served with friendly conversation and a smile. When in a new area for work, we usually rely on Yelp to lend some advice. Ola Cafe had a 4 star rating so we decided to check it out and thankfully we did! I'm not much of a reviewer, more of a review reader but I had to give credit to this place.
