I will never eat here again, the second time was worst than the first time. We were told once again that the items on the wall menu were not available just like the first time we ate here. Their excuse was they sold out, and actually repeated almost word for word, to the person near by, do we have something to mark out that item, looked around like it was floating in the air and looked back at us to take our order. My food was worst the second time, the potato salad had no flavor that you associate with its traditional taste. My sausage didn't have any bar b q flavor, nothing, no smoke, no grill flavor, it tasted like it was cooked in a oven on a tray. The bar b q sauce was very bland. The fries were their best item. The brisket was not cooked long enough to where it was tender, and our slices were dry. We also ordered okra and it good. read more

I'm only visiting the area I was a chef on the west coast for 30 yrs I have been living in Texas for 8 years. I've eaten a lot of BBQ in Texas not an expert by any means. Service was good and polite to go order came up quickly but they 86'd many items. 1/2 chicken gone pork loin gone what I did order for myself was brisket and sausage and turkey and pork ribs. By far the ribs were the best followed closely by the turkey. The sausage was good but the brisket was dry. Sauce for the meats was good, but the sides had something left on the table like FLAVOR! The mac and cheese was low grade dog food worst I have had. Green beans bland and over cooked, I could not even taste the bacon in the mix and the cole slaw was ok. Caveat here I'm no expert on texas bbq but I know good food. This place needs some help with flavors and having enough product on hand to sell to their guests. So...we found this place b/c a former co-worker was in town and wanted to meet for lunch/dinner. I must admit that I was somewhat disappointed with the Sunday hours (closing at 3 p.m.), but shortly after arriving, I realized that these folks deserve to have short Sundays to spend with their families! This place embodies everything that Texas stands for; GEAT food, a very casual and comfortable setting and a lot of Texas history in their decor. We drove all the way from Marion, TX and it was totally worth the drive. We ordered brisket, pork ribs, creamed corn, and fried okra. The brisket was outstanding...tender and moist. The ribs as well were tender and meaty. I didn't eat the creamed corn (never been a fan), but the fried okra was outstanding! Needless to say, they had to kick us out at 3:45 p.m. because we could have stayed until 10 p.m.! Well done Old 300! We will certainly be back and refer anyone who is in the area to stop in...y'all do Texas right!!! read more

Tried this on a recommendation of a friend. Glad we did! The "Willie Nelson" has pork loin, brisket and sausage on a sandwich. The most meat I've ever seen on one sandwich! All moist and delicious. Great atmosphere too. I'll be back! read more

There are tons of places in Central Texas to get really good barbecue, but I now know that almost none compare to Old 300. I was there with colleagues last night, and it was an amazing experience. Like a lot of reviewers here, I'm a brisket guy. There was chicken on the table, and ribs. I didn't even try them, although I heard really appreciative sounds around me as people did dig into those meats. I went straight for the brisket and the sausage, and they were a delight. Mind you, by 6 or 7 at night brisket has been in the smoker for a very long time. But with that said, the brisket at Old 300, at night, is a delight. It falls apart, and its flavor is accented by just the right concentration of rub. Not overpowered, but sweetly teased to a peak of flavor. And the sausage is as it should be. Its flavor is complex. It has kind of a career in your mouth. I ate WAY too much. And this was before they brought out the smoked cheese cake. I'm not going to tell you to save room for it. Do what I did. Stuff yourself on meat, and then MAKE room for the cheesecake. Insane. We got a tour of the kitchen from pit master Ladd Pepper (yeah, that's his name). He explained his process with passion and pride, as he loaded a dozen briskets into the restaurant's huge professional smoker. Ladd's generosity and openness was typical of the whole staff. We out-of-towners got the same warm reception as the obvious locals. These people love what they do, from the front of the house to the back. Go to Blanco. Git ya some great Q. read more

Being a typical reserved Englishman I find myself having to use the only term that describes the Old 300 - AWESOME! I've never had a BBQ like it. The brisket just melts in the mouth; the ribs are incredible and the cheesecake cannot be bettered. The history of this place makes it even more worth the visit so make sure you get a tour. This is exactly what I needed. The friendly service assisted with our ordering. It was just the right amount for our group. The ribs, brisket, sausage and chicken were seasoned and juicy. The side order of cole slaw and potato salad was very good. Of course s with all BBQ restaurant the fixin bar was also well stocked, clean and fresh with the pickles, onions, peppers and hot or mild sauces. This place has a delightful atmosphere, friendly staff, and wonderful BBQ (and sides!). We went there this past Saturday and really enjoyed both the drive and the food. If you love to eat BBQ and take BBQ road trips then you should put this one on the list. I live in the area and eat here several times a month and it is always solid...consistently high quality and great flavor. The atmosphere is interesting and festive and they offer a good value. The location is ideal, just off the Blanco town square with direct views of it including the beautiful historic courthouse (some outside patio seating as well for nice days). I hit the weekday lunch specials often and they are always delicious at a great value. I've eaten a lot of BBQ in my days including many of the famous ones (ie Lockhart, Llano, Driftwood, Austin), and I don't think they have anything over Old 300 brisket or pinto beans. For those who like sauce (purists cover your eyes), they have a couple of tasty options. Well worth a visit if traveling Hwy 281 or 290. read more

Thank you for the jalapeño sausage! The casing is snappy & the sausage is spicy & smooth, not lumpy or gristly. Then there's the brisket, which has a superb crisp coating with a tender, moist meat. We got the lunch special sammies (1/4lb Sammy, side & bev $7). The beans, all you can eat, are piping HOT! but a bit salty. The self-serve onions are crunchy yet nicely tender, & perfect on the brisket. read more

Great barbeque! Got there late so choices were limited to brisket and pork loin but both were outstanding. About the only way to improve the experience would be to add green beans or some other lower carb side for those of us watching our girlish figures! Stopped by on our way back to Houston and very glad we did! We had 1.5 lbs of pork ribs, Bbq turkey breast & a turkey breast baked potato. Everything was delicious and they have tons of extras for your meal: help-yourself to sliced bread, pickled onions, pickles and 2 types of bbq sauce, spiky and sweet, both of which were spot-on. The decor is very quaint, lots of reclaimed wood & a surprise early-20th-century-scale-turned water dispenser. Great bbq joint all-around. read more

Ribs were fantastic. They were done perfectly with most of the fat cooked off but still very moist. Dry rub was good but didn't overpower the smoked flavor of the meat. Although the rub was a tad too salty, still some of the best ribs I've had in a while. Creamed corn was good too. read more

The beef passes the pull test and the flavor was yum. My wife had the pork tenderloin and she absolutely loved it. Great coleslaw! The pintos had great taste but needed to cook a little bit longer. I'll definitely come back. read more

Well to start with the sodas were flat, the bbq sauce was ice cold, nothing like putting ice cold bbq sauce on your luke warm meat, hmm, and the cole slaw was dry. The meat was pretty good though. I do believed they could definitely do better, especially no their side dishes. I doubt we'll return. read more
