Coming from a girl from Los Angeles, this is honestly my favorite barbecue spot I've been to so far! I haven't tried a ton of BBQ places yet, but this one completely impressed me. Took us 30 min in the line, 10 min to order, and 1 hr to eat - plenty of time left on the parking meter which we prefer rather than cutting it close and getting a ticket. 2.5 hrs for parking felt rather safe for us, if you're wondering. Indoor and outdoor seating is available with plenty of tables. TVs inside for game days to indulge in 2 loves at the same time - food and sports. Ambience is warm, welcoming, and simply chill. Line up, be patient, and order to your liking. Ordering process - request for bread, ordered cold items first (potato salad), moved forward to order hot items (beans, Mac and cheese), grabbed a blueberry cobbler on the counter, and moved forward again to order precisely what we came for... the MEATS! Paid our dues, got fountain drinks, and found an open table to accommodate our party of 4. Open seating! TIP 1: They open at 11 AM, we got there at 3 PM, and they were out of beef ribs already. So keep that in mind if you're there specifically for that. TIP 2: They have 2 sauces from what I could tell - Original and Sweet Sauce. Wow! My first experience with Texas barbecue was definitely not a disappointment. Pinkerton's was everything I hoped it would be. There appears to always be a line. During the 1-1/4 hours we were on line and as we left after eating, we never saw it get any shorter. This was a Sunday afternoon. The wait was definitely worth it. Everything is setup pretty efficiently, with different stations for each part of your meal; cold sides, hot sides, meats, and then the bar. The staff is incredibly friendly and ready to offer suggestions. They're also generous; I got a extra piece of brisket for free just because. Meats are sold by the pound, but you can mix and match whatever you want. Two of us got the glazed pork ribs, brisket, pulled pork, and smoked sausage. For sides we got Mac & Cheese, Potato Salad, and Duck Sausage Jambalaya. All were incredible! Unfortunately, they had run out of Beef Ribs while we were on line. This was the third time I ordered Texas style beans in my lifetime and I discovered yet again that I don't like them. They taste too much like chili beans. Not for me. I like thick sweet beans with brown sugar. This is not what I ordered. The Mac n cheese was not overly cheesy. I barely tasted the bacon. It was fine. Nothing outstanding. They need a corn dish. Don't forget to come early and plan ahead. They do run out of things. We tried to eat here a couple days ago and they were out of so many things we got out of line and went elsewhere. Today we're eating here for lunch. So far they are not out of anything. Walking to the Majestic to see the ZZ Top concert, we saw the huge line to get in out the door and down the sidewalk. Ok-1st my image was from my gluten eating companion. The bread is not GF! Let's talk about the good! Pinkerton's menu is labeled pretty well on GF vs not. In this case, all proteins and several sides. You can order your side upgraded (I seriously can not remember the code name for it). There are 2 options, add brisket (add $1.50) and/or add extra cheese (add $1.50). I ordered a (sm) jalapeño cheese rice ($3.50) add brisket and ended up paying $5 for about 6 oz of food. For me, this was amazing! I did not like the rice on its own. It was very oniony. However when I added a slice of pickle and piece of brisket to my bite, I enjoyed it much more. My companion had far more: jambalaya, sausage and brisket. You can order by the slice, so he could try a few things without having to order a pound of each protein. Now the bad - the line is crazy. I did not check how long we waited but I think start to finishing our meal was about 90 minutes. And, I don't think I'm exaggerating. 45-60 of those minutes were in line. The other was the food was greasy. Like, pouring grease off the jambalaya to be able to eat it. I'm from the southwest. Bbq is greasy. I actually love that about brisket. But my partner had to tilt the little cardboard tray and pour grease onto his plate so he could eat the jambalaya. For me, this was not very appealing. As a whole, 4 stars. Service was great. Planned to come for a birthday dinner and wound up coming back twice (Delta cancelled flight but wound up being a memorable second visit). Went in for the brisket and the ribs (glazed were my favorite, finger licking declisious!!) Sides of cole slaw and potatoes were delicious and finished with blueberry cobbler. Fresh beer on tap. Communal sitting inside and plenty of benches outside as well. One of the most memorable and enjoyable meals I've had in a long time. Nothing fancy just straight yum on a plate. So after 6 years in San Antonio I finally tried Pinkerton's. The brisket taste-wise was a 7, tender-wise was a 5. The coleslaw is subjective and I prefer it tangy like they say. But it was too dry to me and not very flavorful. Mac n cheese was good and cheesy. Beans were yummy. Now let's talk about the dessert I chose, their Aunt Ruby's blueberry cobbler. Oof portion of blueberry filling to cobbler. The biscuity crumble type, not the pie crust type. The food is well worth the wait! The line was pretty long but the quality of food was well worth it! The rib meat falls right off the bone, and the pulled pork and brisket was full of flavor and such great quality! We tried one of each side, and they each have their own unique flavor. The decor inside is western and fun! Get there early though because the only bummer was that we were too late for the beef ribs and chicken! read more

4.5 stars. Pinkertons's is a San Antonio institution. It has been here a long time. However, I have been lived in San Antonio 3 different times and never eaten here until now. I am not sure why. The offer discounted parking so make sure to use the parking lots listed on their website. Today was a beautiful day which made the 1 1/2 hour (90 minutes) wait much more bearable. I dont think that I could take this in the middle of summer. It smells heavenly from the outside so that motivates you to keep going through the line. Once you get inside you have a short line before you reach the sides and meat station. The staff at the door, the stations and even the dining area are incredibly nice and very patient with the customers. I really appreciate them. Dealing with a bunch of hangry people can get old quick. They have good option sizes for the sides so you can get a good taste of everything. Their desserts looked yummy as well but I stayed away from them. Now the meats! They give you personalized cuts so you really can get what you want. That is really what takes the longest of the process. Its easy to get to the front and be star struck looking at all the meat options. We had discussed what wanted in line four times but when we got to the front my mom still had questions. The portions are very good so you won't be hungry. We ordered one chopped brisket sandwich, glazed pork ribs, cheese sausage, potato salad, jambalaya, cole slaw, and mac and cheese. The only thing I was disappointed with was my mac and cheese was cold by the time we got to the table. The coleslaw was just the cabbage with a very light vinegar so keep that in mind when you order it. The ribs were fall off the bone tender and I should have gotten two sausages because I am a fan of sausage. Unfortunately they ran out of the jalapeño cheese sausage which I really wanted to try. Overall, I can see why people flock here. It is expensive but it is on par with what you are getting. I feel like tge prices are very fair. read more

Pinkerton's was 100% worth the wait! They did have staff offering cold water to the people waiting outside which I thought was really nice. We decided to go family style and got quite the spread. Personally I think everything was great but the brisket and the giant tomahawk rib really stood out for me in the meat department I loved the seasoning and they were both so tender. As far as sides go I loved the Mac and cheese and potato salad. The restaurant itself and bathrooms were really clean too with very friendly staff so over all I highly recommend and am looking forward to checking out the Houston location! read more
