Summary: efficient, friendly, and the value was top notch given my small service request ended up being free! I'm in a wedding out of state this summer and the groom is working with a local, family-run suit store that has a measurement form on their website. I wasn't able to get full measurements at two local big box stores (it's been awhile, maybe this is a thing now?) so I decided to seek out a smaller business. I called Old Country Tailor and they picked up after the second ring. I explained the situation and asked if I could come by on my way home in half an hour. They said I could arrive any time and it should only take a couple minutes. There were three customers in the store and I waited only a minute - just long enough to get a glimpse of employees working behind the register among stacks upon stacks of cloth. Seems like they have plenty of work to go around. I was recognized by voice and we started on what I called about. I pulled up the measurement form on my phone, got all my numbers filled out, and was treated like an old friend. When I asked "how much do I owe you?" she refused payment and said "nothing, that wasn't enough work to charge you!" I was having a moderately garbage week at that point and it made me remember there are still good people out there! That being said, I'll definitely go back for more substantial needs in the future. read more

I have brought numerous garments to Old Country Tailor with the most recent being my wedding dress. Every experience has been positive. These ladies are passionate and confident in their work. I was especially surprised at the low cost of my wedding dress alterations considering the amount of time we spent on it because it is such a delicate material that took a lot of time to perfect. They always worked with my requests and took the time to make the dress fit me just right even when it would cost them more hours redoing the piece. I am super excited to walk down the aisle and even had a friend who came to my dress fittings bring her own wedding dress in for alterations. I know if I went to a tailor that only does wedding dresses I would have been charged twice the amount of money and probably would have been told no at the difficulty of some of the issues. I searched high and low for someone who could do reweaving of multi-color sweaters. This is apparently a lost art! But not at Old Country Tailor. I had several sweaters I inherited from my mom, including a beautiful Dale of Norway sweater that I loved. I have no idea how it go so many moth holes, but I really thought it was a goner. Nope! The women at Old Country Tailor fixed it up and you can't find a single repair spot. It is beautiful. And it did not cost me an arm and a leg. I brought a blanket and about 30 fabric patches that I had gotten from various places I had traveled to, or from my childhood. I wanted to start adding them onto the blanket, a souvenir of places I've been. Old country tailor did this. If you plan to do it you probably could attach them (pin them)to the blanket as you would like them sewn on to expedite the process. The charge was about eight dollars per patch. I'm not sure how much it would be to add a few more but I plan to add more to this blanket as I go to new places I will occasionally bring the blanket with new patches. I have also had other clothing alterations done at this location after my long time alteration shop closed. These ladies do a fantastic job !! It's hard to find these kind of crafts people anymore! I am absolutely not one to leave a negative review, but I feel obligated to inform future brides needing alterations of my experience here. I brought in my wedding dress for an alterations appointment, having explained what I would need done on the phone. At my appointment, I was met with no greeting, a poor attitude from both women working with me, and a very disappointing conversation. They told me that because my dress had boning, it could not be altered the way I wanted it to be. They went so far as to tell me the REAL photos I brought of my exact dress altered the way I was looking for were "fake" (implying they were AI or photoshop), which they were not. They also told me on the spot, that I would need to purchase small pieces of fabric myself to create sleeves for my dress. I had already brought in what would make up the outside of the sleeves, but even for lining, they would not provide any fabric. The way they delivered this information was insulting and condescending, saying "this is a tailor, not a fabric shop". I was irate and felt embarrassed as a result of their attitude. This tailor might do great work for day to day items, but for wedding dresses - something so special and exciting - I would steer clear. The next tailor I took my dress to did exactly as I wanted with no problem whatsoever. A little humility and kindness could go a long way at this business. read more

I do not like to write a negative review because I like to support businesses. However, what we went through with my daughter's wedding dress was unprofessional and shocking. The week before her wedding, she tried on her dress one more time only to find that they had made some mistakes on it. Since they were closed until Tuesday, we had to wait until then to get it taken care of. When she took it in, no apology for their mistake. They told her to come pick it up on Friday, the day before her wedding. When she went to pick it up, it wasn't ready, and there were still problems with it. This was such unnecessary trauma the week before such an important day. They never apologized, they never took responsibility. And they never did do a good job. Perhaps others have had better experiences, but I just really don't want anyone else to have to go through what we did. read more

This place did an amazing job replacing the zipper of my favorite shorts! I dropped them off on a Tuesday and really wanted to have them by that Friday before a trip, and they said they could have it done by then. I was able to pick it up earlier on Friday! The damage done to the dress was corroborated by the business who ultimately had to fix the dress, which included a complete reconstruction of the bodice. Tears in the fabric and breakage to the corset were also confirmed. It also came to light that the threads in the waistband had been pulled loose and never restitched. This is not meant to be an unkind review. I'm sure this business has done well with less complicated sewing jobs. Haven't gone through my closet and found several items of clothing with minor tears and needing repairs (unintentional rhyme), I settled upon bringing my items to Old Country Tailor. I had two pairs of pants that needed repairing of the waist band and two rompers that needed repairing of the seams. All in all, to repair the four items cost me $70. I was a little sticker shocked but at the same time, I am not able to repair the items myself and was not ready to part ways with them. Imagine if you will ordering a wedding dress custom - sending off the measurements and the cash. It comes and it's just - wrong. My poor daughter has this experience and two other alterations places said they couldn't help. And after waiting for a very long time to get the dress - time was rushing to the wedding date. But Old County was recommended and she tried there. It took five fittings and them performing a miracle but today we picked up the perfect dress. They rebuilt the entire dress basically and took a disaster through transformation! We all cried. The ladies at the shop were like angels. Vera was constantly letting us know what they were doing and reassuring us the dress would be beautiful and on time. With two days to spare. Lara our tailor was just fantastic during this entire experience. Anyone dealing with a formal wedding knows the dress is the centerpiece for a bride. We've used this place a couple times in the last year, mostly for my husband's suits and pants. Service is fast and friendly, and they are excellent at what they do. My daughter recently had her winter formal dress altered here. When we got it back, it was perfect. Sometimes parking can be tricky, so it's best to go at a time when not too many are out and about (avoid after 4:30/it's near Trader Joe's and that parking lot is a nightmare). I needed a top altered for a special event this weekend. The back of the top was longer than the front, and the sleeves had a ruffle but a longer piece on the back of the sleeve, didn't like that either. Didn't seem to difficult. I was measured, then was in sticker shock at the cost but I needed the top and then had to wait over 2 weeks to get it. I went to pick it up and didn't look at it until I got outside and only bc of traffic, couldn't get into my car, I was floored when I looked at the sleeve and there wasn't any ruffle. I flew in and questioned what on earth happened and they were all confused as to where the pin had been placed on the sleeve, one of the employees said it will cost me more to have the ruffle put back on, thank god they still had the ruffle. I said you have to be kidding that I'm going to pay more for something that was originally discussed, they said they would fix this and I could pick up the next day. So I picked it up, I should have tried it on bc the front was too short, I knew they had to make it a hair shorter to even up with the back but I don't think they took into consideration that the top would be even shorter bc of my bust and the back hem kinda fluttered out, not sure how to explain but from the side it looked horrible; they ruined my top. I spent close to $100 for the top and $50 to alter and it's ruined plus they caused me enough stress that I felt sick. I would never recommend this shop, ever. Over the past 4-5 years, I've had well over 20 items of clothing tailored at Old Country Tailor. These items included suits, sport coats, blazers, trousers, and shirts. On every occasion I've visited, I was carefully measured and the tailoring was perfect. It can be a bit difficult to find a parking spot but don't let that dissuade you from bringing your clothes in need of tailoring to Old Country Tailoring. We did have to go back several times, but it was understandable for the complexity of the job. Their prices are fair, but things like complex hemming and taking in fine fabrics is expensive!! I like using East Sac businesses and dislike leaving negative reviews, but this is warranted. If this business can't treat their customers better, they do not deserve to be servicing East Sac. I've used this business on at least 6 occasions for myself and my husband to alter pants, dresses and skirts, and I've recommended her to two brides who needed their dresses altered. Both used the business. However, in the past, I've never been treated so rudely by the owner. I assume she is the owner because she is always the person who waits on the counter customers and writes up the tickets and pins the alterations. She is always a bit abrupt, but she is usually pleasant and nice. Not this time. I recently walked in to have pants altered. I walked in with the pants on so I'd be ready immediately. The owner was scrolling through her phone when I walked in and not only couldn't be bothered to look up and greet me , but once she finally asked to help me and I stated pants alteration, without even looking up at me, she swung her arm toward the dressing room and ordered "get changed." Her complete lack of professionalism and personable, friendly service was rude. Frankly, I wanted to walk out then. But I waited. I had the pants on already, which appeared to surprise her. I stepped up to the small stage and she continued to make me wait while scrolling through her phone. This kind of arrogant "you can wait for me because I'm good" attitude is a complete turn off. No one wants to be treated like this and no one wants to wait on you while you're scrolling through your phone. Have the courtesy to greet your customers when they walk in the door. And, if you are not busy, wait on them. I will not be back for your rude treatment. As it is you have limited hours, you take a long time to get the work done, and you ask customers to prepay. We all put up with this from professional, polite businesses, but not from arrogant, rude businesses who lack customer service skills. read more

When I need my suits fully tailored this is the place I go to. They have even done some custom work on some shirts I had as well. The work is always do professional and right and on time as stated. I wanted to like this place as it came highly recommended. I went to get a bridesmaid dress altered. I should have known this place wasn't ideal when the woman commented that the reason my dress won't stay up is because "I have flat, smooshed boobs and no figure" After getting it all fitted and going to check out, the woman told me the alterations would cost $300. I was appalled. The dress itself was only $130, and the alterations were minimal. I politely told her that I would take the dress elsewhere to get it altered, to which she replied "good luck finding another place that's cheaper." I did end up finding a much cheaper place. Lee Brothers Tailor had phenomenal customer service and tailored the dress for $85. read more

Went to have pants hemmed. They hemmed the pants too short. Did not realize till I got home. Went back to ask them to correct and after marking them she indicated that she would charge me 1/2 the price of the original hem job. I told her I was not paying to re-work a bad job. She would not correct. I walked out. When I went to file a dispute for the charge, I also found they had charged me $29 not the $12 I was quoted day of work, nor the $16 she said was the cost (when she offered to charge me only $8 to fix, 1/2 the cost). I have had many pants altered and never had to pay for an incorrect hemm job. Find another tailor that is willing to correct issues. I will never go back. read more

BRIDES BE WARE!!!! This place is a SCAM! They charge full service tailoring prices but aren't actually doing the work! My sister was devastated to discover on her wedding day that an entire layer of her dress still was being held up with nothing more than a row of safety pins which shown through and made her outer layers bunch up. If we had taken the safety pins out then, that layer would have been way too long so we had no choice but to leave the pins in. When we called Old Country Tailor the next business day after the wedding they said that there's nothing wrong with that. My mom told them she's not happy that "we didn't get the service we paid them $500 for which was to SEW the dress". Rather than apologize or offer a partial refund for the mistake, the owner said there was nothing wrong with it and threatened my mom before hanging up the phone on her! :0 They obviously don't care about their reputation, their customer's satisfaction, or doing quality work.
