I met Billy Ray (on my roof) about 12 years ago. I have since used him half a dozen or more times on different jobs - residential and commercial. I have also referred him at least 15 times and always got positive feedback. I'm an estimate kind of girl...and also a walk on the roof with the estimator kind of girl. After walking the roof about 5 times with different companies, I settled on Old Fashion Roofing. Top to bottom he was the guy I wanted to work with. Walking through 5 estimates, you learn a lot and you start to learn what the consensus is for a quality job without unnecessary upselling. You also learn what questions to ask to really test someone's knowledge. Old Fashion Roofing was communicative at every step. I am able to communicate with Bambi through email and get quick responses. I can get ahold of Billy Ray by phone, same with Jose. On that first job, the crew did a great job. The tear off was unbelievably fast AND THE CLEAN UP that was promised actually happened. Every day. Including with magnet sweep which was very important to me because I have dogs. The install happened exactly as described when it was scheduled. Billy came back himself to walk me through maintenance I could do myself and how to keep this flat roof in good shape. He has since performed maintenance on commercial properties and repairs and replacements for me on other rental homes. Most recently, last week, Jose came out for an inspection. This was after 3 days of uncharacteristic rain in San Diego and he still made the time to come out the next day. Jose was on time (early in fact and patient when we he had to wait for the scheduled time), communicative, clear, and thorough. He spent 45 minutes on the roof with me going over everything. Because of the specialty roof and special order flashing, he said it would take a couple days to get the estimate. He said by Monday and I got the estimate on Monday. In my 12 years using Old Fashion Roofing, I have never been let down nor have I found a workmanship issue. That is incredibly hard to do in this business. These guys were great. I had water leaking through a bathroom vent fan during a storm. First company recommended replacing a 10' x 10' section of my "plastic roof" (it's not plastic, it's aluminum), and they admitted they didn't know the exact problem but would need to take up roof to find out. Old Fashioned was super responsive, sent out their roofer who quickly diagnosed it was a leaking seal around two of the vents. They admitted this was a 5 year fix and would need to be monitored but I agreed to that. Also recommended I get the roof cleaned of debris in the next year. They charged $280 in total. read more

Called Old Fashion Roofing to come inspect our roof after a leak. Guy comes and tells me what's wrong, and informs me that they will reach out to me via email with estimates by the next day. It's been a week now and still no email with estimates. I reached out to see when they would be sending the estimates, but I did not receive a response. Not sure who does business that way. They arrive on time, and go the extra mile for you. I was about to get my roof replaced, but also had an addition that needed new roofing, as it only had the OSB raw wood roof without shingles. After I signed the contract and before the work was scheduled, a rain storm was approaching, and these guys called me to let me know they were going to show up and cover my addition with tarps, so that nothing would be damaged prior to the roofing job. They didn't have to do this, but it was like second nature for them to take care of their customers. I feel absolutely confident in their teams work. Billy Snow is a real pleasure to work with. Its apparent that he cares about his work quality, he's professional, and he is very reasonably priced. It seems it's a good time to be a roofer right now.... we had several roofers flat out tell us our repair work was either too small of a project and they weren't interested, or they had an outrageous minimum fee for a repair visit. their sales person Gregory knocked on my door and told me that my roof looked like it needed some work which I knew it did. I made an appointment for him to come four weeks later so I could be home for it. He never showed up. I had to call and find out where he was to be told that something else came up although I made my appointment weeks ago. I called them and speak to the owner and he tells me that he will come out himself that next Saturday morning. Saturday morning comes. and the owner does not show he sends Gregory and someone claiming to be Gregory's boss although he only worked at two weeks and had no business cards. I asked them for a written estimate as I was going to get at least two. They never went on my roof. They sent a drone up and took some pictures. They will not send me an estimate as they only wanna work with my insurance company. I explain that it's my home and I want to see what the estimate is before I hire them. They do not want my business. It seems like a scam to me, and I would be very leery of ever doing business with someone like this. Not a very good experience. read more

Billy the owner is an honest down to earth guy. Very personable, his estimate was the lowest I received, but I went with them because I had a positive experience with the estimate. He is not an estimator who shows up in a suit and gets a commission from the sale. He is the guy who makes sure your roof is perfect. Once I made my decision they scheduled my job. I couldn't decide Roof color so Billy came out again and reviewed my options again. Even with all the rain this year, his crew showed up as scheduled and began tearing off old roof. Every day they cleaned up very well so house looked nice during work. It misted and rained all week but his polite, friendly crew came and finished the job ahead of schedule. (They didn't work when actually raining). His guys worked extremely fast and were cheerful. Billy stopped by at least once or twice daily to make sure things were going well. When finished he met the city inspector and my roof passed with flying colors. I LOVE my tidy clean leakproof roof! Called Billy and company to get a quote and they were quite a bit cheaper than my old roofer I had used and recommended for years. ( I'm a Real Estate broker) A family run business that tore off the old roof and had a protective layer down in one day! They installed a very nice high quality roof Borel light weight tile. Plus they added a button system and additional layer of product designed to make the roof even more efficient energy wise. Billy Snow owner is hands on stopping by often to insure the job is going well and asking if I had any issues or concerns. Finished product is awesome. We called five roofers and received 3 written estimates, 12% difference. Old Fashioned Roofing (OFR) was the last called, the first to come, the first to send a written estimate, and offered the earliest start date. The OFR estimator actually walked on the roof, got into the attic, and also checked out the condition of the flat carport roof, the vents, and the gutters. He wasn't locked into shingle brand, he discussed options and trade-offs, and there was no up-sell. The crews were all professional: the tear-off, the prep, the actual roofers, and the guys who finished up. The workers were upbeat, careful, and cleaned up. They were completely done in four days. The shingles are beautifully aligned, the color consistent everywhere, the vents and attic fan all new and painted. The owner came out on the fourth day, checked the work, and sent someone out the next morning for some touch up. "Old Fashioned" is conscientious, dependable, and professional. read more

After receiving 5-6 roofing estimates to repair part of our roof, Old Fashion Roofing was the best price. The estimates were similar in scope of work, but Billy Ray Snow came in $700 less than the closest estimate. AND he didn't try to sell me anything else. I had several estimates, and a couple tried to sell me roofing for the rest of the house although it isn't worn enough to warrant replacement. Once we signed the contract, he scheduled the work, told me exactly what would happen, and held up his agreement. They even finished a day early! One note, which does not detract from Old Fashion Roofing, is to be aware of your city codes and permitting rules. My city inspector inspected the wrong portion of the roof, and refused to sign off on the permit because we (the homeowners) needed to secure a gas line that was nowhere near the roof repair. I had our roof replaced sept 2017, sorry very late on this review...but in the meantime it had rained a few time and happy to report no leaks! I originally got the quote because early 2017 we had some rains and small leaks. I was able to locate in attic. I called old fashion and Ethan showed up to measure up and answer my questions and drop hi knowledge on me. Out of 3 companies I picked these guys, I was offered different types of shingles ( at my request) all with different warranties and I picked what I thought was good for me and my budget. They showed on the date they told me and the 2100sq ft job took 3 days. They repaired all rotted plywood that needed to get replaced ( my leak) . I was very pleased with the tear down and install team. Very quick and efficient. I had purchased a solar attic vent and asked them to install for me...not a problem. On day 4 or 5 the owner ( billy ray)arranged a walk through on the job, I was happy with quality and overall work done on the roof. I asked about a fascia if it needed to be replaced, he climbed and looked at it and said no but that it should have been painted. They sent out a guy next day to paint it. Overall I was very pleased with the work and entire process of doing business with Billy ray and company. It has rained a few times since then and have zero problems and great new roof ( looks great too). I have recommended these guys to multiple people and neighbors and will continue to. We hired this company to replace a small section of our roof last year. They did a great job for a reasonable price, they were also reliable and honest. While they were doing the job they also did some minor repairs on the rest of our roof, fixing faulty work done by a previous contractor. During this winter the new roof they put on held up beautifully, however we found a leak from the old roof (a section NOT worked on by Old Fashion Roofing). I called them up to ask for help and Chris came out the same day to look at it. He ended up doing a repair at no charge, even though the leak was nowhere near the new roof they put on last year. What service! If you call their main number don't be dissuaded by the answering machine, they're very prompt about returning calls, or if you call one of the cell numbers they'll often answer right away. Also even though they're based out of El Cajon they had no problem working on our roof in Clairemont. I highly recommend this company! read more

When the landscapers tore down my old patio cover, we discovered that it had been improperly tied into the roof, causing water damage. I got a bunch of estimates for patching or replacing my asphalt shingle roof, and the pricing was all over the place. Billy impressed me initially by how quickly he came out to give the estimate, and then again when he pointed out an issue on the addition that none of the others had mentioned. The quote was very reasonable, and Billy found a way to work with my tight schedule (since the landscapers were waiting on the roof to finish). The tear down and re-shingling were quick and efficient, and the new roof looks great. In addition to replacing damaged wood, the team also installed fascia board in a couple of areas where they were missing.
