The best thing on the menu: crunch donut holes. Love introducing friends and out of town guests to these donuts since they are so unique and hit the spot every time! Kind staff! Call ahead and ask them to place what you want to the side for pickup if you can't beat the rush on a Saturday AM - you'll still have to wait in line to let them know you have a pickup but at least you're guaranteed your favs! I noticed on a cold winter day, it's slower and no need to call ahead. No space to sit, grab your goodies and get going! The cardamom danish: nothing special but not bad. A classic neighborhood bakery. A literal staple of my childhood. It's changed hands multiple times but the quality never fades. Cookies, donuts, pies, bread. They have a day old section that gets cleaned out immediately and I don't wake up early. Oh well. Seems so basic but their glazed donut or an elephant ear are my favorites. I remember getting freebies after finishing class in high school. Small place but it sticks with you. I'm surprised the reviews aren't higher to be honest. First time dropping in as I'm new to the area. I had a late craving for donuts and stopped in just after 11:30am. A lot was sold out, but there were some options left. I tried the beignet and brown sugar/cinnamon donut holes. I haven't ever had a beignet before, which I'm sure sounds crazy to some of you, but it was amazing. I don't have another one to compare it to, but it was light and fluffy - so good. The donut holes were great too. Cakey consistency but heavier than a normal donut holes the outside was almost crunch. I loved the texture. Will be back again. read more

This place is really cute! Love its location--feels like a Main St. in small town USA, but in the heart of NE Minneapolis. The interior is a little dated, but you go for the baked goods, not to sit in there. The staff was super fast, friendly, and helpful. I tried six different baked goods. Here are my thoughts on each: Lemon blueberry scone: 2/5. Very dry and a little bland. Ended up throwing it away. Triple Berry Danish: 4/5. SUPER light and flaky. Chocolate Buttercream Square: 5/5. Super rich, great if you have a really intense sweet tooth. Cookie Dough Crunch donut: 3/5. Not as sweet as you'd think. It was a little dry (especially the cookie crumbles). Raspberry Bismarck: 5/5. SO GOOD. The raspberry filling is absolutely delicious. It's oddly refreshing and not too sweet. Maple Long John: 5/5. Very standard. If you've had one, you know what to expect. read more

My go-to's are always the MN donut (rotating fillings in a MN-shaped donut), the custard squares, and whatever they call the donut with slivered almonds on top. Staff aren't always kind, but I write it off as not being morning people. Some donuts can get a bit pricy, but inexpensive compared to other donut shops. Free street parking, and a free parking lot half a block away. Recommendation: grab a coffee at NE Coffee Shop across the street + Sarah Jane donut = wonderful morning treat! read more

Still the GOAT of Twin Cities bakeries. Stopped here with our family on the way out of town, glad we did. We hadn't been here in many years as we now live on the other side of town. The maple sticks were as dynamite as I remembered them. The almond cream donut (only made on Th, Fri, Sat) was marvelous. And the chocolate buttercream square was super tasty. Came here to get some donuts for my last day of rotations. They open at 5AM, which is a plus because I have to be at rotation by a quarter past 7. I got here around 6:45pm on a Thursday morning and I was the only one there. Service was nice and fast. I got a 2 dozen donuts and some donut holes. I only got to try a donut hole, but it was quite tasty! I got a various amount of their popular items. The cinnamon crunch was amazing. They have that as a cake donut and holes. I tried the hole. It was unbelievably yummy! It seemed people that I got it for enjoyed the donuts as well. I got maple nut bar, raised glazed, bizmark, etc.. a bunch I can't remember the name of. It's kind of expensive: about 37 bucks for the 2 dozen + few donut holes, but not as pricey as some of the other fancy places. It's especially rare that I choose to give into the already-rare chocolate craving that comes up at most once or twice a year. Being that this bakery was in a 5-minute driving radius and came with a strong backing from fellow Yelpers who mentioned the lovely cakes, though, I decided to give it a go when a chocolate cake craving hit - to find that the bakery sells their chocolate cake only as special orders, not in-store purchases. That left me with a choice between the last eclaire on the rack and a chocolate cupcake that looked fairly quiet in flavor, but hey, looks can be deceiving. Neither rang of the rich chocolate desire I was looking to satisfy, but might as well have some fun, since we're here. I solicited the opinion of the cashier assisting us - she'd never had their eclaire and vouched for the cupcake, so cupcake it was. My Irishman opted for a caramel apple cheesecake bar. As we were ringing up the two treats, my guy spotted loaves of cinnamon raisin bread on a day-old rack ($2.25) and quickly grabbed one for his lady's mom. I'd mentioned weeks ago that cinnamon raisin was a favorite of hers throughout my childhood years. One bite into my cupcake, and I immediately donated it to my human trash compactor. I am known for my chocolate cakes, so I'm very well aware of the copious amounts of sugar necessary to make a moist, tender cake crumb. That said, this cake was all sugar. A whisper of chocolate was drowned out somewhere in the background of the loud, overwhelming sweetness. Even my human trash compactor voiced the same opinions - on his own - and as you may have surmised from my reference, he's not exactly a picky eater. Strangely, for all that cavity-inducing sugar, the little cupcake was very dry. Overbaked, perhaps? Regardless, a truly failed cupcake. So much so that a chocolate cake my sweet guy picked out at a market the next day to address that craving of mine not only fared far better, it was moist, dense, rich with bittersweet chocolate, hit the spot right on the nail, and a nice steal at $4.99 for a good pound and a half of baked chocolate heaven. For a bakery cake to be outdone by a market cake giving far more bang for the buck is seriously sad. The cinnamon raisin bread was akin to cinnamon rolls. I admit, I'm known for my cinnamon rolls and breads as well, so I also do know a thing or two about that. While I get that this loaf was on the day-old rack, should the slices have been that dry? Yikes. Again, I stopped after my one first bite. One of few experiences where I'd have preferred to ask for my money back if I were still in the shop. It's a shame, because this spot is so close to my mom's place, and given how much she loves cinnamon raisin bread, I would have loved to introduce her to a new option for an old favorite. YUM! How did I never hear about this place until just now! I am upset I just discovered this yummy and cute little place. I searched "French Silk Pie" on Yelp and "best French silk pie in Minneapolis" and this was one of the places that popped up. SUPER reasonable pricing as well for orders. I emailed what I wanted and the date I'd pick it up and it was ready then. When I went to pick up the pie I ordered for my boyfriend's birthday, we also looked at all the delicious baked goods that were super reasonably priced (again on the pricing you cannot beat it). Also got a slice of pumpkin pie to go (under $3) which I ate on the ride home... Both pies tasted homemade, but high quality-- the perfect balance for baked goods when you don't have the ability to make yummy treats like that yourself. There's parking on the street or a small lot off to the side. It's a small area but there were a number of friendly employees who were taking people's orders and organizing the baked goods they had. It's a little bit out of the way from the city/downtown but is for sure worth it. Can't wait to go back soon and buy/try more yummy treats :) read more

Sarah Jane's Bakery is delicious! We ordered the Eclair, Cranberry Cream Cheese cheesecake and the Dreams - Chocolate cake with whipped cream dipped in chocolate ganache. I would definitely recommend the Eclair, everything about it was perfect. The chocolate frosting and cream inside were the perfect sweetness for this dessert. Sarah Jane's has a long history in Northeast Minneapolis. Like an 'established in the 1920's' long history! It's because what they bake up is heavenly. Most recently, the local brewery Indeed created an ode to Sarah Jane's in the form of a Maple Stick Stout. Why? I think it's because the Sarah Jane's Maple Stick is divine! So, to scratch our itch we headed up to Sarah Jane's to get some Maple Sticks and other goodies. When we found our on street parking spot we made our way to what I consider a bakery mecca. When we entered we were immediately greeted by a purveyor of fine baked goods, a very friendly guy. Sometimes when I go to a bakery I have questions about the treats in the case, I may have a hard time deciding and the people behind the counter seem a bit grumpy and impatient. Not this guy, I was glad and felt at ease in my selection process. We left with boxes and bags of goodness. The cookies will look small, but that is only bc you are used to bakeries selling giant cookies that cost $2 a piece. $2 at Sarah Jane's gets you a bag full of treats. I would be so very sad if Sarah Jane's traded in their old school bakery look for fresh and trendy decor or asked their always pleasant but don't waste our time with your jokes employees to make espresso drinks. Sarah Jane's had such a great variety with everything from cookies and donuts to pies and danishes! We went with the intent of picking up a couple donuts and left with 4+ different baked goods. I had seen their Instagram post advertising a Halloween cookie kit, so we ended up walking away with one of those as well. It was such a fun pre-Halloween activity for a cold night.
