If you have that friend who's hard to buy for, you will find something fun in here. A wide selection of kids' items is also available. Such a cute shop!! Here you'll find Julian Merchandise, random goodies like Hawaiian themed cocktail items, magnets, fun spicy chocolate and more. My husband loved the nostalgia toys in the back. Lots of hot wheels and even a mini race track to play with. My toddler loved exploring this store as much as we did. Service was nice too. Definitely will come back when visiting Julian. read more

This was a fun place to wonder around in. They have all sorts of trinkets, signs, Tiki related items, etc. But, no cool old cars sitting around (which is kind of what I was expecting from a "garage"). Prices were not too bad for a tourist trap kind of place. Lots of things to look at, signs to read, jewelry to try on, shirts, hats, etc. We enjoyed snooping around and my wife found some great earrings for not only herself, but for a few of her friends' upcoming birthday. Definitely would a few minutes of your time, and maybe a lot more time depending on how deep you dive into their merchandise. Enjoy! read more

Looks like an old garage, maybe that is what it was in the past, not sure. Today is a giant gift shop with everything you need, from shirts to mugs, from chocolates to jewelry. I did not find any piece of fashion jewelry interesting and it was kind of pricey. I was expecting last week to get the Valentine's decor already and they were still in Christmas mode. Nice petite Xmas trees with cool imitation vintage balls to decorate. Nice to browse. read more

Wow there's a ton of STUFF in this place! It's really hard to categorize The Old Julian Garage. It has gifts, collectibles, toys, books, classic signs (love the Route 66 one!), t-shirts, etc. etc. etc! I have never been in this shop on past visits to Julian - and I have no idea how a missed one of the largest shops in Julian itself. From what I saw, the items here were of good quality and reasonably priced. I think we can agree that most things in Julian are over-priced, but I didn't find it too bad in the case of the Garage. I did buy some items. I'll admit I received a veteran's discount but still, I thought prices were mostly fair. It is a place worth visiting on any Julian trip, especially if you're looking for unique gifts for someone or yourself. Given that it was very busy in Julian on this day, I will give credit to the store employees at the register. They were very courteous and preformed well under pressure and occasional long lines. I am fascinated by shops like this! Sometimes they are a throwback to my younger days - just helps make me feel right at home - large crowd or little crowd! Old Julian Garage is in an old Julian Garage. It is a cool space that they have turned into a boutique and gift shop. They have a bit of everything. There are something like 4 rooms with a good inventory of so many things! Everything I looked at was of good quality. I would definitely recommend Old Julian Garage. The people who work there are great and very helpful. It's my go to place now for special gifts. read more

The Old Julian Garage was such a cute novelty gift shop. I SO wanted to love this place, but sadly I couldn't help to feel offended as my husband and I browsed the store last Sat. There were plenty of other tourists in the shop, but these two ladies were pacing me around the whole store like I was a thief. I could be browsing the greeting cards or smelling the candles and it seemed they both tag teamed to watch me like a hawk. When we finally went to get rung up, the short haired lady with the face shield was just straight awkward. She never said hello, if so found everything ok or any chitchat until I broke the ice at the end of my checkout. Of course, she opened up then, but I definitely didn't appreciate the treatment as a patron. I honestly wouldn't have purchased anything if it wasn't for the Purple Rain Prince & The Revolution 500-piece jigsaw puzzle - the most perfect birthday gift for my favorite Prince-fanatic friend. Sometimes as a white male, my husband honestly isn't too keen on seeing injustices I see. Once we left the store, I expressed how I felt, he said he noticed the two ladies tracked me and it was blatant. He just hoped to believe it wasn't true. To be frank, it is really sad if my oblivious husband notices something like this. Anyway, I don't often post negative reviews, but this experience truly warranted it as it left a sour taste in my mouth. If either of you ladies who worked Saturday 2/28 afternoon read this, please remember EACH HUMAN BEING who walks through your door is an EQUAL HUMAN BEING AND A POTENTIAL CUSTOMER. Sadly this place is going out of business in January, as the owner is retiring. I'll miss her. While some of the items we're a bit expensive, I feel she really tried to keep prices down. Right now she's offering 10 % discount on cash purchases. I always liked to stop in for ball caps as she had a good supply of them for veterans at very affordable prices. If you're in Julian stop in the Old Town Garage before January and wish the owner well on her retirement. read more

My two stars are strictly for the eclectic goods in this store. They have so many different things, from candy to stainless steel mugs to tiki stuff. Kids toys, jewelry, gifts. I have purchased here in the past (bought something I could absolutely not afford) and was ready to purchase a few things this trip - I went specifically with this store as my destination. I remember now what put me off to this store to begin with. The staff at the register are not welcoming or friendly in any sense of the word. I felt like I was putting them out by just being there. I said hello and comment on something at the register I was interested in and ready to purchase. I was met with stone faces. All three of them looked at me and didn't say a word. I felt like I was in a different country where nobody spoke my language. Customer service is a huge deal to me and can certainly be the deciding factor on whether to give someone my business. A great product, fantastic location and decent prices are all great things to have, but all that is irrelevant to me without helpful or kind employees. I don't expect a conversationalist or someone overly cheery. But the energy was close to uncomfortable. I left immediately. My first trip I thought I might have caught them on a bad day, but it seems that's status quo for them. I get that it's a tourist spot and I would imagine tourists can be assholes. There are a lot of other stores in the area and I don't care to spend money where I feel like an imposition. I would guess that lots of people here have a ton of money to spend, so they will stay in business. They obviously don't need my money, and I don't have a lot of it to spend. My husband and I always enjoy coming in here when we are visiting Julian. The store is large with multiple rooms full of items. There is something here for everyone that you can find. I always enjoy looking at the games and puzzles as well as the Christmas ornament room and have purchased a few as well. My husband loves looking at the collection of hot sauces they have. The staff is always friendly in greeting us when we are there and during our transactions as well. My family and I just went to The Old Julian Garage and the store itself is great has lots of great things. We purchased stickers that had a deal of buy 4 stickers get 1 free. We bought a total of 8 tickets and I asked the cashier Cindy who was outrageously rude and lacked in her customer service skills. I kept asking her don't we get 2 free and she continues stated no you have to buy 4 in order to get 1 free in a rude raised voice tone. I stated exactly I'm buying 8 I should get 2 free. I loved this store. It was spacious and had so many quirky, cute and useful items. There was a large selection of mugs, stickers, candy, craft soda, magnets jewelry, apparel, hiking gear...you name it! It reminded me a bit of Urban Outfitters but without the pretension. It is a repurposed garage, so very hip. What really made my visit was Lisa. While I was browsing I rocked my baby to sleep and she offered me a stool to sit on, which was such a kind gesture. We had a great conversation about parenthood from her many years of experience raising five children. She was a pleasure to talk to; she epitomizes the charm of a small town by treating guests like family. I hope I can visit Julian again soon so I can explore this wonderful treasure trove again. read more

We've come a few times before, and they have some cute stuff. But this time I came with family and were looking through shirts. This older woman was folding shirts and looked at our family looking through sizes and very audibly sighed because she would have to refold our shirts. We looked through a couple more stacks - they have a lot of designs! - and she gave us the stink eye and sighed the whole time. I specifically looked through shirts that I didn't even want just because she was getting SO annoyed. Insanely rude, especially because (a) there were lots of signs saying "Look through these shirts! We don't mind re-folding them." and (b) we were paying customers just looking at shirts! Man, she was really terrible. read more

My daughter and I took a random drive from Imperial Beach to Julian about three months ago. It was during the week, and Julian was not that packed full of tourists..and it wasn't a snow day! We browsed all the shops, and a lot of them were selling the same types of stuff in the same candles, the same souvenirs, the same shirts, just the same dog stuff. Until we walked into the old Julian garage I really loved the vintage and repro items from cult favorites ! My treasured purchases were a pickle drink for my daughter and an amazing bumper sticker from the 1980s that reads Donna Summer! Being an Uber driver, I have received so many great compliments and comments on that sticker. The problem is we've had a lot of rain the past few months and my sticker is fading and peeling it in one corner, so I'm so afraid I'm gonna lose it before SUMMER! I go shopping all over the world in search of cool retro items. I think that Julian garage had one more Donna Summer sticker on that table of celebrity merchandise. I would really like to buy it over the phone or through the mail and have them send it to me because we haven't had such Crazy weather. And at my age I don't do snow. I don't drive in it. I don't play in it. I don't enjoy it. read more
