I was pretty full but I wanted to sample this Julian Cider. I didn't want to commit to anything but the good people at the cafe recommended to check out this place. I'm glad I did. AMBIANCE Parking: Street parking in downtown Julian. It can get pretty busy based on the time and season. Vibes: Welcome to Julian! A small town feel as you can experience almost everything within a block. However there are also some cool bars/farms to explore around to. The Cider Mill itself is in the heart of downtown Julian. Shelves filled with jams, preserves, candies, local honey, nuts, dried fruits, and all kinds of nostalgic treats. FOOD / DRINKS Apple Boysenberry Cider (Recommend) I'm a fan of apple but a fan of all seasonal flavors. I enjoyed the sweetness and light tart of the berry flavor - a nice depth of tanginess that just felt lively. CUSTOMER SERVICE Friendly and welcoming. Ondean served me a sample of the drinks and they were great! TL;DR OVERALL 4.5 Stars. Good selections, good products, and a pleasant experience. I read some good reviews on this small business spot. I even checked out videos on YouTube to get an idea what this store is all about. As we walked in, I was so impressed with how many products they were offering. Lots of different honeys, candies, ciders, sauces, pickled vegetables, toys, beef jerky, snacks, and so much more. Absolutely, loved the samples of apple ciders. They were offering cherry and boysenberry flavors. We enjoyed the boysenberry cider so we had to get a cup of it. Although, I felt it was pricey for a small cup of cider where I gulp it in a minute. Really refreshing since it was a nice day out in Julian. The staff were very inviting and nice. A haven for PCT hikers. They don't just cell cider! Lots of dried fruit, nut, and meal options to stock re-your pack. I'm not that kind of hiker but I could see many stop through Julian, likely for a meal, pie, and to restock provisions. Lots of snack options here and little kitschy items. We stumbled into this adorable shop on Main Street. We were not looking for anything in particular, but wow ! When we got inside, we found fresh local honey , boysenberry and cherry vanilla jam, they actually have jelly cats!!! Tons of different packaged candies, and nuts they have tea they have spices they have packaged fruits . Really cool store with TONS of snacks (nuts, candies, etc.), honey, jams, etc. and great cider! I was overwhelmed by the amount of different food items they had on the store. There were so many things that sounded good, but I ended up just getting a bag of plantain chips that were tasty. We did try samples of the boysenberry and cherry ciders and they were sweet and delicious! I don't know that I could drink a full serving of it due to the sweetness though. The store is fairly small, but jam packed with merchandise. Something to note is that they have a $5 minimum for credit cards, and take cash! read more

Julian Cider Mill is definitely a staple when coming up, from homemade hot ciders, chocolates and get this a plethora of jellycats. I kid you not, I did not expect to see so many jellycats in store, but it's such a cute thing to get as a little reminder of your trip. This visit I picked up the milk and dark chocolate cherry cordials, tajin peach rings, a jar of their jalapeno pepper jelly and of course little things of honey. One of the girls working offered me a sample of their cider and it was really refreshing, even though it was early February it was starting to get pretty warm. I just love stopping into this store. Been coming here since I was a small child and realized their candy sticks were the cheapest in town, so I could purchase myself and share with school friends! lol This store is definitely a staple in this small historical town. It can get really REALLY busy during the holidays, so be ready to be patient and shop the candy and snacks when you are in line. This town was not this busy when I was a kid 30 years ago and the buildings are small and historical landmarks! Im just remarking on their regular cider, ended up getting their jug at the pie company in Santa ysabel. They also offer the cider by the mug at cider co. This is the best tasting most unique apple cider I've had. I felt like I could taste apple blossom, but it's crisp, it tastes like what the apples are in it it feels. Just great product. I am usually not a cider person and don't really drink anything else besides tea and water. My friends encouraged me to try the cider and I am so glad I did because it was SO DELICIOUS! I feel betrayed by all the good reviews for the apple cider because this was the worst one I tried in Julian. My friend and I each had a cup of the Boysenberry Apple Cider and both threw it out after a few sips. It tasted like straight Icee syrup. I kept trying to detect any kind of apple flavoring but the artificial ambiguous fruit flavoring was too strong. I was disappointed because I held back from buying a gallon of cider from the Julian Pie Company in hopes that the Julian Cider Mill's version would be better. We ended up going back and waiting another hour at Julian's Pie Company to get cider there. The shop is charming and has a great selection of teas, jams, pickled vegetables, dried goods, and candy. I would've liked to spend more time browsing, but the store was jam-packed with customers and was difficult to move around in. The store had a pop-up table serving apple cider outside with a long line, but the line for cider inside was non-existent. The employees we interacted with were efficient. It was peak apple season when we went, so it was very difficult to find street parking. It's a cute store, but the apple cider was a huge letdown, especially from a place with "Cider Mill" in its name. read more

I placed an online order for the first time. The lady on the phone was so friendly and understood my cravings for must have items. Normally, I stop in as I'm driving through Julian, because it's so inviting and warm inside. Anyway, I got the angel food candy. Marshmallow and nuts wrapped in a chocolate robe. Put it in the fridge before eating, btw. The chocolate gets nice and crunchy and the marshmallow filling is just right. My other craving was the sweet crunchy baby corn. It's jarred in a great syrup and has pieces of red pepper and garlic. I just stand at the island in the kitchen with a fork and shovel those babies in. So good. If you want to try fresh apple cider or nuts you can get samples as you walk into the store. Staff is friendly and will give you honey samples if you are interested in buying. I think if this store sold coffee and didn't put weird ingredients in their candy, I would live here :) There are even jawbreakers here for that nostalgic feel! We bought guava jam, blackberry honey, pepper jelly, and mandarin orange pepper jelly. Everything was absolutely delicious!! Next time we come here, I plan on stocking up on more canned goods. A great little candy shop+!!! They have hundreds of sugar and even sugar free products. They even have some old timey types like Horehounds. Yes, if you're under 50 you've probably never heard of them and I've been to a number of DEDICATED candy shops that have no idea what they are Peanut brittle? You bet! But they also have a mixed nut type as well as others and the mixed nut provided a unique experience, although a bit pricey And don't forget to bring home a jug of apple/cherry or apple/boysenberry cider. They offer free samples and sell it by the cup, 1/2 gallon, and gallon)... it is soOoo delicious chilled!! And the snacks, we always end up snacking on half of it on the way home! Ever since I was a little girl I've been going to Julian. You haven't had a true Julian experience without coming to Julian Cider Mill. I've tried everything here! The place itself is old and filled with history! I love how it feels as if you walked into a different era once you walk in that door. The candy, local goods, countless spices, soup mixes, jellies, jams, you name it! And, of course the cold pressed apple cider. (My personal favorite!) I can't walk in without taking some of it home with me. I've tried cherry, boysenberry, and many other flavors over the years. My favorite is the classic cold pressed apple cider! It's so rich, full bodied, spicy, warm, tangy, and delightful! It's Fall in a cup. You can also get hot apple cider during the Fall and Winter. I highly suggest that if they have it, get a few cups! This is a cute little shop in Julian! They have plenty of pantry items and hot/cold cider! They also have a little free sample station where I was able to try cherry cider for the first time. The cherry cider was good but I'll stick with the apple cider. They sell cups of apple cider in front of the store for 2.50. Which I felt like was a little pricy but it was still good. The Apple cider is so good and sweet here. Hands down the best cider I've had. Got it by the single cup and then went inside and bought a gallon to go. This was in February 2021. Went back during December and there were no gallons for sale, only by the cup (which was not sweet at all compared to Feb). Was told that the ciders were seasonal and only avail Sept-Nov??? I got in Feb, so not sure what's the correct time available. Call ahead first before you make a trip. I'd like some more information when the peak time for their cider is. read more
