Family owned and operated. Historic theme in old Bristol location. Has a long wait during NASCAR race weekend but once you are seated, they serve your order VERY fast. Really good food, breakfast or lunch, and friendly folks, makes for a good start to the day!

Family owned and operated business with a can do attitude on making the best home cooked meal for you at a reasonable price. I have the 2 eggs, chopped steak (fresh ground hamburger) and sausage gravel over test toast. Yummmmmmm. This is southern home cooking at its best. Why spend top dollar for fast food that is full of preservatives when you can eat freshly prepared home cooking for the same price.

Passing through Bristol and we had to stop here based on the reviews. When your server is same one who gets up at 3am to bake the bread, this is a spot you have to try. Friendly and fast service, this is a small but bustling spot. I had the 4oz bacon cheeseburger and appreciated the perfectly cooked bacon on it- the lettuce was crisp and the tomato was so ripe! It's small but a perfect little package. Paired with hand cut fries for a perfect little lunch. My husband had the Loaded Hash Browns with the house baked bread - delicious! Yelpers, stop in, have a bite and appreciate a local spot with personality and the friendliest service I've had in ages

We stopped in here with the fam for brunch. It is small and we had to wait a bit, but it was worth it. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our food came out pretty quickly and we all enjoyed it. I had the veggie omelette and got the homemade toast which was a nice touch and so delicious! The decor is interesting to look at. It was fun to explain to the kids who some of the people in the pictures were. Overall a fun, good place to eat.

This place is clean as a whistle! They take pride in their restaurant. Out food was mediocre but the staff was very friendly. Overall We enjoyed our stop here after a long road trip.

Damascus Diner -- Damascus, VA…read more I'll admit it--I'm not usually a diner person, and I actually debated driving back to Abingdon for breakfast. But we were staying in a cabin along the Virginia Creeper Trail, and walking the trail into town for a traditional Southern breakfast sounded like the more authentic mountain-town experience. I'm so glad we did. The portions were huge, the prices were incredibly reasonable, and everything we tried was good. My husband ordered "The Hog"--2 eggs, country potatoes, sausage, bacon and pork loin. The sausage was his favorite of the meats. I had the Mt. Rogers with 3 eggs, hash brown casserole, and upgraded to the 8-oz sirloin. Both meals came with toast or a biscuit, grits, and peppered sausage gravy. They were out of biscuits, so we had white and sourdough toast instead, and it was all good. The food was hearty, traditional, and exactly what I was craving. But what really made the experience was the Southern hospitality. The young woman serving and the host were both so kind and cheerful. Sometimes the best travel experiences aren't the trendy places--they're the local spots where you walk in hungry, leave completely stuffed, and feel genuinely welcomed. Damascus Diner was one of those places.

The food and service were just good on that day. Then there was today. Front door greeter was friendly and seated us quickly. Server we had today was ok. None of the hash browns we ordered were scattered and crispy like we ordered. Of course my husbands order was just all messed up. He ordered over medium well eggs came out over easy. Order well done toast came out loaf bread. Ordered well done sausage came out barely cooked. Hash browns were ordered scattered crispy came out barely cooked. Sausage and toast were left on plate. Couldn't eat it. Bacon was great. Coffee was excellent. This may be a hit or miss place. It all could've been on who was cooking or if server wrote a fictional order down. Not sure what happened. They did knock off a little over a dollar off the ticket. He should have sent it back but he doesn't do that. He just won't. We liked the ambiance. Decorated like yesteryears. Very comforting and clean place to eat. I might be back but he won't.

We stopped for dinner the first night and I went back in the morning for breakfast. Nothing fancy small diner that the locals frequent. They have daily specials. They have all of the regular southern fair. Bestie said the cornbread reminded her of her nana (who was from Harlan County, Kentucky - so that tells me this is OG Appalachian cornbread). It's not like your typical Northeastern sweet cornbread. The menu had all your typical southern fair chicken fried steak soup beans, and cornbread. They serve breakfast all day. She got the beef vegetable soup with the cornbread. Beef vegetable soup was Campbell's. I had the patty melt, which was amazing. It was a 10 ounce freshly made patty on rye toast with grilled onions and Swiss cheese. It was the best patty melt. I've had in many years. My meal came with a small side of critical cut fries that were delicious. Service was friendly and fast. We went with besties's cousin for breakfast the next morning. I have the two eggs over easy with a biscuit and sausage gravy and two strips of bacon. That biscuit was amazing as a sausage gravy. Bacon was crisp and delicious. Service was again very fast and friendly they checked on us numerous times to freshen our coffee, which was greatly appreciated. If you're staying near Bristol or in Bluff City etc. check out the Bluff City Diner. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but the food was really good and the prices are extremely reasonable plenty of offstreet parking easy access for those who might have mobility issues.
