Such an amazing place and very authentic Texas smoked meats! Moved to Washington State from Texas and struggled to find a great brisket before we stumbled upon the Old Mill Cafe. Serves onions and pickles with their meat plates, amazing friend okra and honey butter biscuits. Kim was a joy and provided great conversation, a warm welcome, and truly made the place feel like home. Her and her husband have a great story, amazing talent in the kitchen and smoker, and truly have a special place in Plain, WA! Loved it! Food was fantastic -- I got the veggie breakfast burrito, which was absolutely on point. Rest of fam got the hash and breakfast sandwiches, which they loved. The young lady behind the counter was incredibly helpful and patient -- she brings a great energy to the place. Finally, loved the decor, which had old local newspaper clippings on the tables of the ample dining area ...and did I mention a huge projector displaying the morning news? Place is special. This was such an interesting little brunch spot. We stayed nearby at an air B&B and Old Mill caught our eye driving in. It is located in the tiny little town, which has a great store next to it for shopping. The woman who served us was so friendly and talkative. Our lattes were pretty good as well. The setup is unique- you grab your own condiments and you are served on paper plates. The atmosphere is so weird. It's like old timey religious stuff? So the historical pictures were fun to look at and read the captions on. The food was solid. Flavorful and filling. My breakfast burrito was great, IMO. read more

The drinks were good! I loved the matcha a lot and asked the cashier for their favorite matcha syrup combo which came out as blueberry cheesecake matcha. I love the little surprises that you can get when you ask for them to make you a drink. The food was alright. I wasn't expecting paper plates to be served with our meals and prepackaged syrup. The waffle itself was not bad I enjoyed it but I was wondering why it tasted a little sour but thought it might be how it is made. Not really sure but I didn't get sick so I don't believe it was spoiled. The interior is pretty simple. Nothing too fancy so definitely a casual setting. read more

I got the country breakfast and it was literally the perfect diner experience: my potatoes were crispy and perfectly seasoned, my over-medium egg cooked to perfection, slab bacon SO delicious, and THE BISCUIT. Do not sleep on the biscuit! They make these in house and they're flakey, buttery, and soft - I kept saying 'oh my god' out loud. I'm a former pastry chef and pretty picky when it comes to baked goods! The ambiance is so charming, lots of interesting history on the walls and tables! But it has the convenience of a modern spot with the digital menu. We placed our order with the cheerful gal up front and then got to pick our seats. We're only visiting the area but I would return just for this place. They have a little bakery section that I'd definitely try next time based on the quality of the biscuit! read more

We stayed nearby at a cabin over Valentine's Day weekend and stopped in here all three days. The ladies who work here were SO sweet. The ambience was great and felt very pnw. The food was TOP NOTCH. One day we tried their cinnamon roll, literally so light and fluffy. The next day for breakfast I got their Texas pork burrito, and my Texas heart was very happy. It reminded me of home and I was ready to return and eat the rest of our meals here. My husband ordered their chicken fried steak and got an extra biscuit and it was phenomenal as well. It was a lot of food and he wasn't quite able to finish it but that was okay. The biscuits were really good. So sad we weren't able to return to try their bbq for lunch but we've decided we'll just have tot take another trip out just to try it. Amazing food, service and atmosphere. I loved the 'dad joke wall' and the tidbits of history on the tables throughout the establishment. The food was amazing. I got a morning sandwich with bacon on a bagel, my husband got the skillet scramble with the brisket. Just do yourself a favor and go. I love corned beef hash. In Seattle, Bryan't Corner Cafe makes excellent corned beef hash. That is my point of reference. So, when I heard that this place has pretty good corned beef hash, I definitely wanted to try while staying in Leavenworth. It was a major disappointment. And looking at everyone's reviews, I must be one of the few who is not impressed with this place. My honest opinion is that my corned beef hash was overpriced ($18), very small portioned, and the pieces of the meat were tiny. We also had a piece of waffle and another breakfast item that i can't remember and they were equally disappointing. read more

What a little surprise treat! During a busy Leavenworth trip we didn't want to try and find parking so we decided to go to Old Mill Cafe for diner. What a surprise to have some delicious Bbq! Huge servings, so many Texas bbq sides and the most flavorful meats. To top off the evening we got to visit with the owner and she was just a gem filled with all sorts of great stories, advice and kindness. The diner serves phone-ins, drive up and inside dining. The place was clean and warm from the cold. It's a do it yourself with table service but with it being a small mom and pop place they put their time into the food. We had the taco burger hogie with fries. $14. To tell the truth eating this hogie didn't really make me think "tacos". But, it was creative and it tasted really good. The hogie bun was fresh and stood out as a really great bun. Much better than most other buns at just about any other place. And, the fries were top notch. You don't go into such a small restaurant expecting such a great meal. But, they serve it up. And they do so pleasantly and were happy to give us some extras. Having gone to Plain many times over our lifetime, we'd never shared a meal here. We were in town working on our cabin and didn't feel like cooking so stopped in for lunch. The staff was very friendly and the menu had lots of different options. My husband said the tuna melt was one of the best he's ever had. My chicken sandwich was decent but the salad was really lacking and had some brown lettuce. The fries were good though, glad I stole some of those. We want to come back again soon and try the breakfast. They also have $2 bags of ice which I thought was a great deal haha. read more

Went with a good friend to Leavenworth for a small getaway and discovered the best breakfast I have ever had. Amazing food and well worth the drive outside Leavenworth. We checked around and their seemed to be more than ten restaurants serving breakfast (mostly bakeries and coffee places) within walking distance of our location. jStill, Louie's had a wait, we really wanted something hearty and the Old Mill Cafe was really well-reviewed. When we pulled up we were a little taken back. It was a small cozy restaurant and ordering at the counter made us a little nervous. Still, the counter person was friendly, polite, and very professional. She had a beautiful smile and a welcoming demeanor and we had already driven the twenty minutes so we were in for sure. So glad we did. We decided to order two different entrees and share- the "redneck eggs benedict" and the "corned beef hash". While we waited the 7-10 quick minutes for the food, we sipped on coffee that was out of this World. This restaurant could just sell coffee and I am sure it would be packed. When the food came out, we were amazed by the portion size. Had we known, we could have easily shared one breakfast. Eggs Benedict featured soaked delicious sourdough bread topped with quality ham and perfectly cooked eggs. The rest of the plate was full of delicious wedge potatoes. You couldn't have fit anything else on the large plate if you tried. The corned beef hash was made from scratch with chunks of high quality dinner plate brisket topped by two eggs any style and the bread of your choice. Definitely the best breakfast I have ever had. Even though were headed back to Seattle tomorrow and the restaurant is the opposite direction, we will probably go by there again when we leave Leavenworth to head home. DO NOT MISS EATING HERE. Such a convenient place to grab a bite while cross country skiing across the street. We had lunch here while taking a break from skiing and it was very good. There is not a lot for breakfast in Leavenworth but if you drive 20 mins up the road, you will find this amazing Gem. Small, hometown, great food and good prices. They make their own doughnuts, pies and goodies. We had doughnuts both days and they were so good. They have a full espresso bar which is a HUGE plus for me. You never know what to expect, but the guy made a SOLID americano! I had the French toast and a side of bacon. Their bacon is so amazing. Knife and fork and amazing. Period, don't skip it. I promise you will regret it if you do. My son had the biscuits and gravy which was also super good and HUGE. I ordered a biscuit with my breakfast on day 2 and it was so delicious. Super fluffy.
