This was such an interesting little brunch spot. We stayed nearby at an air B&B and Old Mill caught our eye driving in. It is located in the tiny little town, which has a great store next to it for shopping. The woman who served us was so friendly and talkative. Our lattes were pretty good as well. The setup is unique- you grab your own condiments and you are served on paper plates. The atmosphere is so weird. It's like old timey religious stuff? So the historical pictures were fun to look at and read the captions on. The food was solid. Flavorful and filling. My breakfast burrito was great, IMO.

The drinks were good! I loved the matcha a lot and asked the cashier for their favorite matcha syrup combo which came out as blueberry cheesecake matcha. I love the little surprises that you can get when you ask for them to make you a drink. The food was alright. I wasn't expecting paper plates to be served with our meals and prepackaged syrup. The waffle itself was not bad I enjoyed it but I was wondering why it tasted a little sour but thought it might be how it is made. Not really sure but I didn't get sick so I don't believe it was spoiled. The interior is pretty simple. Nothing too fancy so definitely a casual setting.

This place is such a hidden gem! I got the country breakfast and it was literally the perfect diner experience: my potatoes were crispy and perfectly seasoned, my over-medium egg cooked to perfection, slab bacon SO delicious, and THE BISCUIT. Do not sleep on the biscuit! They make these in house and they're flakey, buttery, and soft - I kept saying 'oh my god' out loud. I'm a former pastry chef and pretty picky when it comes to baked goods! The ambiance is so charming, lots of interesting history on the walls and tables! But it has the convenience of a modern spot with the digital menu. We placed our order with the cheerful gal up front and then got to pick our seats. We're only visiting the area but I would return just for this place. They have a little bakery section that I'd definitely try next time based on the quality of the biscuit!

I love corned beef hash. In Seattle, Bryan't Corner Cafe makes excellent corned beef hash. That is my point of reference. So, when I heard that this place has pretty good corned beef hash, I definitely wanted to try while staying in Leavenworth. It was a major disappointment. And looking at everyone's reviews, I must be one of the few who is not impressed with this place. My honest opinion is that my corned beef hash was overpriced ($18), very small portioned, and the pieces of the meat were tiny. We also had a piece of waffle and another breakfast item that i can't remember and they were equally disappointing.

What a little surprise treat! During a busy Leavenworth trip we didn't want to try and find parking so we decided to go to Old Mill Cafe for diner. What a surprise to have some delicious Bbq! Huge servings, so many Texas bbq sides and the most flavorful meats. To top off the evening we got to visit with the owner and she was just a gem filled with all sorts of great stories, advice and kindness. The diner serves phone-ins, drive up and inside dining. The place was clean and warm from the cold. It's a do it yourself with table service but with it being a small mom and pop place they put their time into the food. We will definitely be back!

We had the taco burger hogie with fries. $14. To tell the truth eating this hogie didn't really make me think "tacos". But, it was creative and it tasted really good. The hogie bun was fresh and stood out as a really great bun. Much better than most other buns at just about any other place. And, the fries were top notch. You don't go into such a small restaurant expecting such a great meal. But, they serve it up. And they do so pleasantly and were happy to give us some extras. If you're in the area you should give them a try.

Having gone to Plain many times over our lifetime, we'd never shared a meal here. We were in town working on our cabin and didn't feel like cooking so stopped in for lunch. The staff was very friendly and the menu had lots of different options. My husband said the tuna melt was one of the best he's ever had. My chicken sandwich was decent but the salad was really lacking and had some brown lettuce. The fries were good though, glad I stole some of those. We want to come back again soon and try the breakfast. They also have $2 bags of ice which I thought was a great deal haha.

This place is too legit to quit. It has the best corned beef hash, without question: not too salty, fresh chunks of brisket, perfect home fries, and a fresh-baked Texas-style biscuit on the side. Oh, and that honey butter? I need a vat of it. The old-time photos of Plain through the ages and the warm hospitality of the staff were also delightful. Do yourself a favor and go! read more

This is an update to my previous review. The food may be good....but.... We quit going here last summer because of the flies. And after standing in line this am for coffee and a muffin with flies all over flying and landing on everything we left. Seriously, there's no way staff can't notice this. And, does nothing about it. read more

So good! Atmosphere is great, staff is exceedingly friendly. Lots of cool history and newspaper clippings used to decorate. Staff even suggested a banana hazelnut latte, which was surprisingly delicious. Prices are fair considering how expensive things are getting these days! Overall, I highly recommend it. read more

I am vacationing in Leavenworth and my husband wanted to come to this restaurant for lunch. It was about a 30 minute drive to get here. A really beautiful, quiet and very curvy ride to the town of Plain. There was a five or six minute wait. It's not a very big place but the ambience was nice and comforting. I ordered the brisket plate with corn and salad and my husband had the bbq brisket burger with chips and some tater skins as an appetizer. The tater skins were good, just enough salsa and sour cream. The bacon was crispy and the potato was soft and easy to eat. I had 3 slices of brisket, a giant biscuit made from scratch and sweet buttered corn. I actually don't like corn, I got it for my daughter but she didn't eat it either. The brisket was really good, super tender and just melted in your mouth. A nice layer of fat but not enough sauce. I was scraping up the sauce to get some on the brisket. I tried my husband's burger and it was okay. Same brisket but the slaw they put on top was not to my liking. A recommendation if you're near the area. Cute family owned restaurant with good service and friendly people. read more

Nice clean little restaurant. We ordered two meals and a salad. After placing our order we stepped outside to wait. It's a small interior and they had a trickle flow of people so we were trying to stay out of the way. After about fifteen minutes I went to check on our order seeing two box's and a salad on the counter. Gave the young girl my name and she immediately responds with no with out looking. Long story short now I waited exactly 30 minutes went back to check again and ask if that was my order sitting there. I get a sorry and sent on my way. I got chicken fried chicken that was cooked black and super soggy now, a warm Caesar salad and warm chicken strips. Disappointed and couldn't finish our food after paying $60 after tipping 20%. read more

I came across the Old Mill Cafe in my quest for the best corned beef hash in Washington. This place is about 10 miles off HWY 2, but well worth the diversion. The hash was a perfect blend of corned beef, potatoes and onion. I asked for my eggs over-medium and it was served with a sour dough English muffin. This breakfast has taken first place for my taste buds. It was the perfect portion size and had just a touch of smoky flavor. This is the perfect skiers breakfast. Aside from a great breakfast, the staff were friendly and accommodating. Don't even think twice, just go! read more

After reviewing the restaurant choices during our stay in Plain, I found that they were from Texas and read fabulous reviews about their brisket burgers and Texas style food. I don't have that option from home and wanted to take advantage of the opportunity. I'm so glad I did! It was amazing. I'll definitely go there every time I'm in the area. It's been almost a year since we've been to the Old Mill Cafe & we're happy to say some (good) things never change! This time for breakfast we ate the Chicken Fried Chicken & the Country Breakfast & both meals were delicious! The Chicken Fried Chicken had a crunchy coating around very tender chicken & smothered under their daily, homemade gravy! Their fried potatoes are amazing! We called in an order of 2 cheeseburgers and 1 side of fries for pickup. At the pickup window, we were charged $37.22!! Asked if there was a mistake? No mistake....what a ripoff! Back at campground, checked order. No cheese on burgers ($27.98). "Bucket o' fries was no more than a palmful of greasy, tasteless fries ($5.50). Add a "to go" charge of $1, plus tax and the total for 2 plain burgers and 1 tiny fries was $37.22. Avoid this ripoff at all costs. We travel full time in our RV all over the country and have never been gouged like this! Shame on this establishment! read more

I kind of forgot to give this place a good review since my fiancé and I were having such a good time at Leavenworth! We stopped by here to grab some hot coffee and donuts before exploring. Coffee was amazing and the donuts were fresh made in-house. The girl taking our order told us some fun facts about the town and how long it's been around. Very cute place and definitely delicious a well. There's not many coffee stops around the area so this is a really good option! read more

Great service and great food. The place was packed last Sunday night and they still attended to everyone quickly and often. I had the Plain Burger with smoked cheddar cheese and fries. Very good especially with the added avocado. Highly recommend this place. read more

Delicious breakfast and espresso drinks. The food is delicious. Our favorite is the skillet. I cannot eat eggs so I substituted beans and OMG, this was phenomenal. What a great place! We were just driving by and it was so inviting from the street we had to go back and eat there. We never looked at reviews. What a great experience! Jennifer and Jason up front and Nick and Dante in back! The food was great, service was fast and even cookies for our dogs Christmas and Chachie!!! Not much to pick from in Plain. We had breakfast here and it was fine. The veggie burrito was good but the salsa was nothing special. More veggies and potatoes than eggs. The 2 egg breakfast with sausage was served with tasteless frozen potatoes. Coffee was subpar. I am baffled as to why this is the best restaurant in the area. read more

Nice drive to get there, but not as expected from reviews or pictures and description. Food was ok, served in plastic bowls that were tall and hard to eat out of. Restaurant was freezing cold and a ski shop was in the same space. Felt like we were in a gas station almost. Lady at the counter was sweet. Friendly when entering and when existing. This place is a must stop if you are crazy about coffee, espresso in particular. Prices are awesome! and conveniently they have a drive thru on the right side of the store. The staff is the "go above and beyond with a big smile every time" type and the owner is on site often. Every time I'm in Plain now I can't wait to stop by and grab a coffee from them! read more

This is the only option of restaurants in Plain, WA so you're gonna have to eat here if you like it or not. The Ruben sandwich was amazing! The chicken strips are average. Eggs Benedict is good but I've had better. The food is overpriced but it's the only option. The Red Bull drinks are so expensive. It's an extra charge for syrups in it. DO NOT sit next to the bathrooms. You'll be smelling toilet cleaner while eating. It's awful. There really needs to be a person solely dedicated to swatting flies if you go during warmer months. The trash situation is pretty gross also. And you dump your drinks into a community bucket when you're done which is also gross. Skip the steak unless it's covered in breadcrumbs and gravy read more

Attempted to dine at this restaurant tonight. Came in at 630 pm with a group of 3. The longer haired gentleman behind the counter refused to acknowledge us. I even went back outside to make sure I read the hours correctly - yep, said they are open to 8pm. Came back in. Stood at the counter for a good 10 mins..employee clearly saw us and heard the bell on the door ring multiple times, but refused to greet us or offer to take our order. There was no one else dining at the restaurant either. We took our cue to leave as we figured it was a sign. Seemed like someone that would rather not be bothered by having customers. read more

This place has the best grilled cheese I have ever eaten in my life. It sounds expensive because it's $8 but your taste buds will enjoy every penny. Seriously people, you have not lived till you've eaten this grilled cheese. The rest of their menu is really good. They have little smokies for appetizers which is the third best thing about this restaurant; right behind the grilled cheese and friendly staff. In conclusion, this place rocks my socks, and try the grilled cheese. read more

Staff is friendly and we stopped by to order espresso but they just had normal coffee options so went next door.. however they had a nice display of freshly baked chocolate cake, carrot cake and some pies.. we ordered the chocolate cake and the carrot cake and it was good.. would highly recommend the owners to add several coffee options and make it like a true cafe since the name is lind of misleading..would stop by to try their brunch some other time.. read more

We are open for breakfast and lunch with added dinner hours on the weekend. Our menu is a twist on the classic cafe with a Texas BBQ flair.

History

Established in 2016.

In May of 2016 the Old Mill Cafe transferred ownership to restaurant veterans Matt and Kim. Since then the new owners have been working to combine their native Texas roots with their love of the Wenatchee Valley. Owner and Chef Matt continues to combine his 23 years of experience in culinary industry in new ways for the locals of Plain and Leavenworth and for their many visitors.

Meet the Business Owner: Matt S.

Matt and Kim a husband and wife team were given the opportunity to realize their dream when the previous owner decided to move on. Chef Matt grew up in Illinois and Texas around some of the BBQ. After high school Matt realized his passion was in cooking he was soon attending the Pennsylvania Institute of Culinary Arts, a Le Cordon Bleu school. After graduating Matt was recruited to work for Wyndam, in Bothell Washington, who he worked for until he being recruited to work at the Cloister Resort in Georgia. Although Matt had fallen in love with the unique geography and people of Washington so when a positioned opened to mange the restaurants at local ski area Stevens Pass Matt jumped at the chance. Matt spent 16 years working for Stevens Pass creating new foods and restaurants for the Ski Area. In early March of 2016 Matt was approached to see if he wanted to take over the Old Mill Cafe. Since May 2016 Matt has striven to provided great food to all who come through his door.

The Oldmill is great! Everything on the menu is delicious. Very nice family runs the place as well. I never miss at least a meal or two when I'm in town. My only complaint is, they have not returned from their Covid protocol, paper plates, plastic silverware order at the counter, tip before you get any service, which there isn't much these days. Food is delicious, but it would be nice if this place, returned to a real restaurant. it's basically a fast food set up. You even have to get your own water and clean your table!! Super annoying.
